As much as I could gather:
(Predicted winner listed first)
MS (pretty straightforward predictions)
Taufik v Yeoh KB
Nguyen TM v Poompat
Boonsak v Sathien (Laos)
Kendrick v Kuan BH
Taufik v Boonsak final
WS (all pretty tough)
Lydia Cheah v Soratja
Li Li v Firdasari
Julia Wong v Salakjit
Maria Kristin v Xing AY
Hard to predict: Possibly all-Indo final, or all-MAS final, or even all-SIN final; Salakjit can enter final but I doubt Soratja can
MD
Kido/Setiawan v PRAPAKAMOL/NGENSRISUK
Gan TC/Lin WF v Tran/Nguyen
Wijaya/Saputra v Latif/Khoo
Gunawan/Riyadi v PANVISAVAS/ANUGRITAYAWON
All-Indo final, but other pairs can spring surprises on their on days
WD
Jiang/Li v Goh LY/Ng HL
Marissa/Natsir v Nguyen/Vu (Vie)
Kunchala/partner v Phi/Phung (Vie)
Novita/Polii v Wong PT/Woon KW
All-Indo final no sweat
XD
Widianto/Natsir v Wijaya/Jiang
Sudket/Saralee v Latif/Ng HL
Saputra/Li v Tan WK/Woon KW
Limpele/Marissa v Asuncion/Asuncion
All-Indo final but watch out for homesters Sudket/Saralee

It's great to see Kendrick doing well and improving. he has the advantage of still being a work -in-progress so opponents can't tell his game yet. The other Kendrick edge is he has no respect or fear for his opponent.
Sony losing to KL is not surprising;that's probably the cumulative effect of 3 consecutive tournaments whereas KL skipped both CO and HKO so he's absolutely fresh.
KBH should also be rather fresh. KBH is not bad;the last time I saw him play was SO07 vs CY.I enjoy his game. If he has fixed his fitness/stamina and attitude, he can still spring a surprise.Let's hope it's gonna be a good match.

Matches involving Team INA
MEN'S SINGLES QF
Taufik Hidayat [1] vs Yeoh Kay Bin -- with Sony losing to Kendrick Lee Yen Hui in the first round, Taufik is INA's only hope for a Gold in MS. He should beat Yeoh Kay Bin tomorrow. With Ronald Susilo injured, his next opponent should be Nguyen Tien-Minh.
MEN'S DOUBLES QF
Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan [1] vs Sudket Prapakamol/Phattapol Ngensrisuk -- any match involving Sudket is always interesting. This one could go to another rubber-set as in the Team Event.
Songphon Anugritayawon/Tesana Panvisvas vs Hendra A. Gunawan/Joko Riyadi [2] -- yet another rematch and AG/Joko should prevail again.
WOMEN'S SINGLES QF
Li Li [3] vs Adriyanti Firdasari -- Li Li has beaten Maria Kristin yesterday and given Firda's inconsistent form, I think Li Li will prevail.
Xing Aiying vs Maria Kristin Yulianti [2] -- a tough match for Maria and she needs to be at her best to beat the young Singaporean player.
WOMEN'S DOUBLES QF
Vita Marissa/Liliyana Natsir [4] vs Nguyen/Vu -- a breeze for Vita/Butet
Jo Novita/Greysia Polii vs Wong Pei Tty/Woon Khee Wei -- with Chin Ee Hui injured, I think Jo/Greysia will take this one.
MIXED DOUBLES QF
Nova Widianto/Liliyana Natsir [1] vs Hendra Wijaya/Jiang Yanmei -- the top seed should win it.
Kennevic Asuncion/Kennie Asuncion vs Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa [2] -- ditto.

MS
Taufik v Yeoh KB - Yeoh has no chance in hell ...... :crying:
Nguyen TM v Poompat - boogieman Nguyen is too good, showed good form in team event
Boonsak v Sathien (Laos) - hosts no 1 get a practically guaranteed medal, not that he doesn't deserve it.
Kendrick v Kuan BH - closest of the 4 matches, giant killer Kendrick has a point to prove, Kuan has nothing to lose.
WS
Lydia Cheah v Soratja - tough for Lydia, has better skills but prone to mistakes. Plus, Sorajta is on home soil
Li Li v Firdasari - the way Firda is playing, it's time to say sayonara to her title
Julia Wong v Salakjit - 50-50, Julia in great form, Salakjit out to redeem her pride with crowd backing.
Maria Kristin v Xing AY - Maria just has a bit of an edge, but if the game extends, expect the outcome to favour Xing
MD
Kido/Setiawan v PRAPAKAMOL/NGENSRISUK - difficult battle for World Champs, but should still pass through.
Gan TC/Lin WF v Tran/Nguyen - MAS get one guaranteed medal, not that they really deserve it (based on their display against Singapore)
Wijaya/Saputra v Latif/Khoo - SIN No 1 show MAS youngsters a trick or two
Gunawan/Riyadi v PANVISAVAS/ANUGRITAYAWON - INA out to ensure all INA final
WD
Jiang/Li v Goh LY/Ng HL - SG pair just too strong, MAS pair not seasoned yet
Marissa/Natsir v Nguyen/Vu (Vie) - INA steamroll past the opposition
Kunchala/partner v Phi/Phung (Vie) - THA pair take it, but that's as far as they go
Novita/Polii v Wong PT/Woon KW - INA to win, but expect a fight from MAS scratch combination
XD
Widianto/Natsir v Wijaya/Jiang - World Champs take it, probably with some difficulty if their form fluctuates like in HK Final
Sudket/Saralee v Latif/Ng HL - flamboyant Sudket unleashes cluster bombs at hapless MAS youngsters
Saputra/Li v Tan WK/Woon KW - the other MAS youngsters try to fight back, with no avail
Limpele/Marissa v Asuncion/Asuncion - INA veterans have too much class

Can someone enlighten me... if the players make it to the semi-finals, are they assured of at least a bronze medal or do they have to fight for 3rd/4th placing if they lose in the semi-finals? Many thanks.
xiao_le
12-11-2007, 10:48 PM
no need to fight for 3rd/4th place, semifinalists are enough to win a bronze medal each..

Yes, they get guaranteed bronze. Same rule as Asian Games.
But not the Olympics, you must fight for bronze .....

All I know is that Firda has a sexy smile and she likes to smile at me. Thus, I hope she will win! :p
Maria Kristin is the most technically competent of all these Southeast Asian competing this week [WMC not included]. Unless she is feeling really down or unmotivated, she can defeat anybody here! ;)

I concur with your assesment of Maria Kristin's competency, but I feel a sexy smile at you will not be enough for Firda. :p The smile doesn't even work all the time with Gao Ling ......
Seen Firda's performance 2 years ago, there has been hardly any improvement after that. Maria and probably even Pia has leapfrogged past her. Is she tense? Felt as if she was playing with a lot of weight on her shoulders ......

An extremely tight battle between Lydia and Soratja ended with a 3 game thriller, Soratja won 21-23, 26-24, 21-18.
Good for THA to have a WS semifinalist to take Salakjit's customary place, and good also to see Lydia going down fighting ..... just a bit more experience and we can have 3 reasonably strong WS.

That'll be a bit too high to expect from the young gal. A bronze is already good feat for Julia.
Msia can win Gold from the other sports - bowling & equestran (my spel is wrong) put low targets but they can surpass it. Our women's bowling are pretty strong - they are the new crowned World Champs. The Eq. sport, we are good too in Asia, looking to sweep all 6 gold.

Yup, better than Gan/Lin anytime ...... something is wrong with this pair, I expect a whitewash against the World Champs tomorrow.
As for Julia, just hope that she can give a great fight, not that she hasn't beaten Maria before. But Maria has the upperhand, after winning in 3 games at their last encounter at the World Championships.

That means MD Semis will be :
Gan/Lin vs Kido/Setiawan (Msia vs Indonesia)
Gunawan/Riyadi vs Hendra/Hendri (Indonesia vs Spore)
A lot of the matches looks like all Indonesian finals

Yup, better than Gan/Lin anytime ...... something is wrong with this pair, I expect a whitewash against the World Champs tomorrow.

Ya...I don't even dare to think about Gan/Lim chances against Markis/Hendra.Just hope they will fight fully to bring some glory for themselves and Malaysia.I will be happy enough if they can force to rubber eventhough they lost tomorrow. For Julia, she has a chance to win and hope she will try her best.

Not easy for Joko/Hendra to beat Hendri/Hendra....they are quite good..if INA wins..it will be in 3 sets....or Sin will upset INA....

It looks like a INA vs SG (Ex-INA) MD Final. It will be a very closed match in the final and I expect the world champ to run away with a narrow win

Finally!!! Krisna can now enjoy Firda's smile, after she beat Li Li in 3 games.
Score is 16-21, 21-15, 21-19.

In their last meeting in Macau Open, Gan/Lin lost in 3 sets to Kido/Setiawan.
Those who have watched matches live said that Gan is the weak link.
Razif/Khoo managed to beat Luluk/Alvent, their 1st victory over major pair. That's how they got chosen to go SEA Games instead of Lim KW/Mak. Not too bad, our back-up pair.

Okay...just came back from the second day of Full-Day conference held at my old school to see INA players winning all matches today, of course with 2 near-losses: Adriyanti Firdasari and as expected, Taufik Hidayat
There will me some good matchups tomorrow...world class badminton definitely, esp in Boonsak vs Kendrick Lee, Sudket/Saralee vs Nova/Butet, Jiang/Li vs Vita/Butet, and Hendri/Hendra vs AG/Joko. I might not learn of the updated results since I am going to be away to Kaohsiung for the next two days :crying:
Good luck to all the players!

Gan/Lin are already 24. Unless they are very late bloomers, they better show their potential fast. Gan when partnering KKK in junior days had good results. Lin (the taller one, Gan is Zakry's height) when partnering Fairuz was the stronger one. So, I would pity Lin if because of his partner he cant make headway as MD player.
Raizif/Khoo are 20 or 21, still got time. If not because senior squad already has so many pairs, they could have been absorbed in.
Lim/Mak are only 18, they can get their turn in next SEA Games.

Waste lah.. I still prefer the seniors to play. More interesting since the big guns like taufik, boonsak and the top doubles are there.

I'm still wondering how come BAM just based on Gan/Lin win over Luluk/Alvent in HKO & selected them to SEA games in the place of Mak/Lim...
Razif/Khoo is a very potential & talented pair. They, along with Chan HP/Chang PS & Mak/Lim will be the future hopes for MAS MD hopes...
I do hopes BAM would let those 6 players to concentrate only on MD instead of playing the XD, due to the uncertanity of form of their women's partner.
Kido/Setiawan never play as XD pair in any major tournaments so far. This shows to be world champs, we need a full concentration on just one event for every players... (Well.. GL is a rare figures..)

Yes,..i think Rexy should try out some more new combination for them....i would suggest Lin WF to partner with Hoon TH.....as Gan cant perform....:o
At least....Mas wont just lost a couple of good MD players like HTH, LWF,Ong Soon Hock...

1) It was Razif/Khoo in place of Mak/Lim(from BJSS). Razif/Khoo(from back-up suqad) was the one who beat Luluk/Alvent. Gan/Lin are seniors, weakest senior MD (that was bf CCM announce retirement).
2) Remember, Rashid Sidek is leading the SEA Games contigent, Razif/Khoo are in his squad. Razif/Khoo are also more senior, they should get their break after showing good performance.
Like Huang said, he said the match with Luluk/Alvent and believes Razif/Khoo have potential to be dangerous pair.
3) Either one - Lim/Mak was injured, just recovered. Jeremy Gan said during World Junior said that if they dont well in New Zealand, they wont get to go SEA Games. They did ok there I think - they lost in SemiF to Korea, the eventual winner.
4) Chan Peng Soon/Chang might be broken up - to replace CCM & pair with Hoon TH. The new pairing will be senior no 6 pair. There goes one MD.
5) Lim Kim Wah/ Ng are 2007 World Junior champs for XD. They might be concentrating on XD for OG since Tan/Woon the only other full-time XD.
So, there goes another MD.
6) Remember Indonesia's Lilyana/Marissa. They play both XD & WD. Doing well in both departments - WD champs in China Masters, XD well.. one is World Champ, the other SS champ for a few Open tourney. But both better results at XD, like Gao Ling too.
Of course other countries like Korea, Japan, England also have players playing both MD or WD and XD, maybe due to lack of players. They do well in one department, flop/mediocre in the other.

Dear eaglehelang,
I believe that we have potential young players to lead the squad in the future years. If BAM continues to expose the young shuttlers to the major competition, we will have many heroes and heroins who can make us proud. I believe that it is good to see 2 players in the semis as we did not send the first team.
I will be always behind the team whether rain or shine. Without us loyal fans, the team could not succeed. We must give them our full support and commitment.

I guarantee....if all INA final....no WO...sure for that...:D:p:p
I can also guarantee that! No strange WO! We refuse to sink that low [anymore]! :D In the 1970s and 80s there were terrible instances of PBSI asking people to loose matches. But not for the past 20 years... It's very unethical for an individual sport like this. Badminton is not like baseball...
If there are WOs then it had to be due to real injuries etc...

yea....to me GTC is the weak link...look at the past when LWF was wiv Fairuz....on their best form they can beat anyone.....they've beaten Cai/Fu like 3 times? On the other hand look at GTC and Zakry...hardly performed at all just managed to reach AE semis....
