The Japanese XD pair survived a gruelling first match today. Tadashi Ohtsuka/Satoko Suetsuna beat Hwang Ji Man/Lee Kyung Won in rubber-set, despite losing the first set: 15-21, 21-17, 21-18 in a match that lasted nearly an hr. They will qualify if they can beat two MAS junior pairs later on.

The prize is a manageable tie against Howard Bach/Eva Lee in R32 tomorrow.

Pia Bernadet Zebadiah has progressed to the second qualifying round after a tiring rubber-set victory against Sutheaswari Mundukasan 22-20, 24-26, 21-16. She will face another tricky match against Kamilla Augustyn, scheduled at 3:30pm.

Meanwhile, Kuan Beng Hong just takes the first set 21-16, despite once trailing Tommy Sugiarto 5-12 :mad: I think quite a number of INA players will go home tomorrow.

His ranking is currently at 42, obviously not good enough for main draw at Super Series level tourneys (with only 28 main draws and 4 qualifiers). Even Lu Yi (who won the Russian Open GP Gold) has to qualify!

achilles recovery is soooo slow.. scar is healing up nicely tho.. not a lot of scabbing left.. mostly dry skin - i see the doc again on friday - hopefully start some physio soon and perhaps then my recovery will accellerate a bit

Nice to meet Winnie again at the stadium. CCM/CCE had a slow start against the Indonesian where CCE made more mistakes in the 1st set. However he recovered. They almost lost it to the lanky Indonesians.. but experience prevail.

CCE did better in second match against England pair.
