Fu/Cai on a roll with 3 straight pts, before the INA pair got 1 back. It ends 11-7 to the Chinese favor again as they go into interval. Now, the last phase of the game....can the INA pair repeat the same trick as in the second set?

My feeling is China will take this one, unless the INA pair can force it back to level.

well, one thing for sure Luluk Alvent can changes so fast. One time they can get pumped and motivated then continue attacking. Then after there's a mistake, one of them can somehow not able to cover their partner perfectly. Only God knows the result :P

badMania
01-27-2008, 04:32 AM
It's all over as Fu Haifeng/Cai Yun collect another Super Series title by beating Luluk Hadiyanto/Alvent Yulianto in rubber-sets. It was a case of so near yet so far again for Luluk/Alvent. But, they have fought bravely today, esp in the second set, when the odds were against them. Fu/Cai are just better than them, from the 22 smashes vs 10 smashes by the INA pair.

So, INA returns home with 0 titles :o

some pride was saved when the Chinese MD pair of Cai Yun / Fu Haifeng beat Luluk Hadiyanto / Alvent Yulianto Chandra 21-7 / 20-22 / 21-17. it would've been mighty embarrassing if the Chinese team fly back home with only one Gold medal from WD. at least now they will go back with 2 golds and 3 silvers.

abedeng

In both MD Super Series finals, it is ironic that the losing team had problems with their serves.

Shows how critical the serve is compared to other disciplines.

My predictions:
Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa vs Lee Yong Dae/Lee Hyo Jung - I still think the Koreans can take this one if LHJ can minimise her errors in front of the net like what she did during the 2nd half of the decider today.
I'm right!
Lu Lan vs Zhou Mi - Lu Lan has been shaky and inconsistent. Zhou Mi has the experience and desperately needs this title.
I'm right again!
Lin Dan vs Lee Hyun Il - Nobody can stop Lin Dan from defending the title.
...except the linesmen and umpire.
Du Jing/Yu Yang vs Gao Ling/Zhao Tingting - The younger compatriots will prevail again against their seniors.
I'm right again!
Luluk Hadianto/Alvent Yulianto Chandra vs Fu Haifeng/Cai Yun - A very tough match to call. The Indonesans surprised everyone when they tamed Lars/Jonas today. They can claim their maiden SS title if they can reproduce the same effort.
I'm almost right again!

They very nearly upsetted Fu/Cai. If only their service and netplay were slightly better....they could have done it

Not just Kido/Hendra, even Jonas/Lars, CTF/LWW and KKK/TBH pairs would have no problems. FHF wasn't at his best, and CY if he were forced back is not so lethal.

Basically CHN played just as good as their performance last week. It wasn't good enough to go to the MO final.

Basically CHN played just as good as their performance last week. It wasn't good enough to go to the MO final.

There were a couple of instances when Cai Yun simply fumbled when he was forced to the back of the court and Luluk/Alvent gained the pts.

The key is speed. Luluk/Alvent still could not compete with the pace of the Chinese pair. They could not consistently peg the Chinese back and had that attacking initiative :o

Now, Kido/Hendra just need to avoid Koo/Tan before the Final in the All-England and make sure that Fu/Cai and Koo/Tan fight with each other :D

KKK/TBH is provided TBH dont panic. On the other pt me agree - Fu these two SS more smashes into the net, dunno why. Started from hmm HK Open.

Just depends who are their opponents on the day. At MO Lars/Jonas played better than Fu/Cai.

Gosh, it was a good decision for me that I went to watch the Korea Open at Jangchung instead of the TV. What drama at the Lin Dan vs Lee Hyun-il match! On the third set, on the final points, in his disgust, Lin Dan flung his racket towards the coach of Lee. They almost got into a fistfight, with each other's coaches. What drama! And I got it on video!

After that match, my friend and I roamed around the venue and made wrong turn down the stairs and...

I was lucky that I bumped into Lee Young-dae and asked for a photo with him. He was very friendly. After I posed with him, other people followed. He obliged.

I also saw Lin Dan as he was leaving the venue and I stopped him to shake his hand. I wanted to have a photo with him, but I changed my mind. He must be feeling so bad after losing the match. Gosh, on the 1st set, he just toyed around with Lee Hyun-il. He gave me a weak smile as he offered his left hand to shake with my right. I hope he comes back to Korea next year.

I guess it was worth the trip in the freezing winter!

I think lcw handle this type of matter better than ld...he is more calm and accept the decision made by the umpire eventhough it is not in favour of him....we can now see how the bad line call can affect the players ..

But he still allows it to affect him mentally. Cool on the outside but raging on the inside.

I don't think this is offensive to Muslim forumers.... We are all matured, smart people that can discuss things in the open. Anyone offended?

I wouldn't worry too much about that Victor. I think most level headed people understand where you're coming from and try not to make a big deal about it. I mean you could say "cow" next and some private interest group will bring up controversy.

Despite LD's over the top reaction to the line call, I saw he very sportingly and sincerely congratulated LHI at the net. The umpire had a tough game to call and for the most part, did very well.

That's 2 years in a row now that the KO has been involved with controversial issues. Next year, no matter how much $$$ this tournament puts up, there could be a severe absence of top players. Then the organizers will see how much damage suspect line judging can affect their tournament.

I did not see him flung his racket towards Li Mao...coz the incident happen in a sudden...and all my family members were so tense on the score, then, the drama started, we were all :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:, only saw Li Mao stood up and quarrel with LD, then LD raise his racket, donno who he wanna whack...but luckily stop by officers, dragged n pulled him away...

You don't really need to study it very hard, it's clear he threw his racket but whether it was in the direction of Li Mao is unknown.

Lin Dan 'seemed' to have thrown his racket towards the two guys sitting at coaches of Lee Hyun-il. One of those guys is bald. I think he was the target of Lin Dan as that bald guy was also screaming when the brouhaha happened. So, was this bald guy 'Li Mao' also Chinese? That makes sense as Lin Dan was obviously screaming at him and that bald guy was screaming back. If Li Mao was Chinese, it makes sense that they were both verbally squabbling in Chinese.

I was seated way, way up the rafters as I arrived late and most seats down were taken. So, when I saw Lin Dan's racket flying I suddenly realized this was big drama! So, I turned on my camera and videod starting when Lin Dan went to the opponent's area and there were pushing and shoving and screaming! Although I didn't know the history between Lin Dan and that bald guy, I seemed to me that there was bad blood between them.

I also noted another thing: I saw one linesperson, a Korean woman wearing that yellow long sleeve shirt worn by linespersons, clap her hands when Lee Hyun-il won an important point. When she realized that she was not to show her bias by clapping, she suddenly looked around and try to see who saw her clap.

Aren't linespeople supposed to be NEUTRAL? How I wanted to report this to the organizers of the Korea Badminton Open.

Excellent report from another person at the stadium. The clapping linesperson should have been removed immediately but fortunately for her, no one saw it.

She (the linesperson) clapped BEFORE the match was over. I think Lee Hyun-il was 2 points away from the match. This means the lineswoman was CHEERING for Lee Hyun-il DURING the match, which was evidenced by her clapping.

Yes, it was a tense moment, but since I was up there on the rafters, my perspective was wide and I could see what's happening down below, one of them the clapping linesperson.

I sent an email today to the contact person of the Korea Badminton Open. I am not sure if they will respond or not. I will give them 48 hours.

Do you think they will respond?

I think the linesmen should have been replaced. By linesmen I mean both the linesmen in Korea Open 08 and China Open 07.

Kind of ironic that it is the controversy of bad line calls, CHN game fixing and now, this LD-LM incidence that generate interest in badminton and not focusing on the great game itself....compared to tennis where Sharapova won which is talked about...missing out are the other events like WD, MD, XD and WS...yes, ZM winning and congrats to her, being the rejects that CHN does not want and she won what seemed like a great match with LL that no one is talking about...can't help but wonder how baddy can be a mainstream sport anytime soon.

I'm wondering if writing to the BWF might be better since they sanction the events. You might get a stock answer though. You don't really know how seriously they take observations from individuals, unless they have clout. If Sally Yeh wrote instead...

otherwise, they dont know for sure that you were just someone trying to mess with the scores...unless you have a video

I am refering to the one which the the coach and the players start to push each other..This incident goes like this. When LHI hit the shuttle out,the linesman actually call in and Lin Dan of course feel very furious. He shouted and went to complain to the umpire. The umpire then change the score in favour to Lin Dan.We though this is the end but Li Mao suddenly very angry and the fight started.

...Calmness of LHI brought him the victory.
After the disputable line call, Lin Dan was really in a rage, and Li Mao, a Chinese ironically, contributed to it the most, just by his presence....
..i saw the last 9 min. or so of that incident and i would have to say simply, both parties (LiMao and LinDan) behaved very unprofessionally:o...no matter if the line call was a dubious one or not..:(
Btw, Jessica, i thought on that pt, the umpire upheld the call that was made in favor of LHI, not LD..

As for the MD Final, well, the INA gave it an effort, but i guess they ran into a determined FHF&CY, who were looking for their first SS title this yr...

Gosh, it was a good decision for me that I went to watch the Korea Open at Jangchung instead of the TV....

...I guess it was worth the trip in the freezing winter!
..Alphonse, glad you were able to go and watch the Finals!!..If you have any videos or pics or other stories of the Finals day, please share w/us all!:)

Yes Alphonse, the bald guy is Li Mao, he's a China citizen, have been coaching Korea MS since beginning 2007. And yes, most probably they were screaming at each other in Chinese, both pissed off with each other.

I just finished re-watching the MS final towords the end of the decider.
http://bbs.badmintoncn.com/plus_video_view.php?id=292

I noticed that the last 3 points were all due to LD's unforced errors when having the 4th match point at 23-22.

LD's return went long, and hence the 4th duece in the decider at 23-23.
LD's return went into net, it gave LHI's 3rd match point at 23-24.
LD's cross-court smash went into net, it gave LHI the title at 23-25.

Hey y'all!

This is the video which shows the Lin Dan vs Lee Hyun-il squabble. Sorry, the vid is only 3 minutes and only caught what happened after Lin Dan let his racket fly up the air! Hehehe...It also shows Lin Dan being given the yellow card (not exactly my favorite color. Hehe)

You be the judge. I think this scene was not shown on TV, or was it?

according to a couple of Chinese media who has phoned Li Mao and interviewed him, Li Mao claimed that he shouted at LD at a close distance, "are you going to hit me?" i think that also provoked the very last reaction from LD before he walked back to his side of the court.

Lin Dan almost won it at match point with a great drop, but Lee Hyun Il miraculously retrieved the shot and got it clear out of danger, too.

Does that mean Li Mao tried to provoke Lin Dan first? If that's true, then maybe Li Mao was trying to ruin Lin Dan's mental fortitude and eventually his game.:confused:

If it did, only Lin Dan can tell us.

After the match and the awarding ceremonies for the men's singles, I saw Lin Dan at the players' area, sitting on a bench with his coaches, and putting back on his track suit. Being a badminton fan, I wanted to ask him for a photo, but I decided against it as I think it was not a good time. I was scared he would vent his anger at me and smash me with his racket! :crying:hahaha!

He was chatting with his coaches, where they were giving serious glances to the people around them, including me. It wasn't a friendly atmosphere around them. So, I think not asking him for an autograph or a favor to have a photo taken with him was a good idea after all. So, my friend and I stayed away from where they were and stood on the main entrance of where the players pass.

Then a few moments later, Lee Young-dae passed by and I just stopped him to congratulate him and ask him to have a photo taken with him. He was friendly and nice. After me, other people followed. While this was happening, I saw that Lin Dan and his coaches were leaving the area. As they were near the main door, I stood in his way and blurted, 'Lin Dan, I'm sorry blah-blah-blah." I extended my right hand, expecting him to extend his left, but his bag was on his right shoulder, so he extended his left hand to shake. He gave me a weak smile. It was like he was forcing to smile just to be polite.:)
Though I was glad I was able to shake the hand of the World's No. 1 men's badminton player, I was even more surprised that his hand, his left playing hand, was very soft. I should have asked him what he does with his hands to keep them soft! :) Hahaha!

Oh well...another day at the badminton court.

Tomorrow's another day.
