badMania 02-15-2008, 03:37 AM Predictions:
WOMEN'S TEAM
Denmark to beat Russia and face Germany in the SF.
France to beat Scotland
Netherlands vs England is 50-50. England has an edge in the doubles, with Netherlands in the Singles. Strange though that Yao Jie is not playing in singles
MEN'S TEAM
Denmark to beat Sweden. They will surely win the European Team Championships very comfortably with Peter Gade, an in-form Kenneth Jonassen, Jens Eriksen/Martin Lundgaard Hansen and Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen in the doubles. The only weak link is perhaps Joachim Persson. Strangely, no Lars Paaske/Jonas Rasmussen as I thought it will be a good opportunity for them to win some ranking pts.
Germany to beat Wales
Poland vs Netherlands can go the wire. Poland has Przmyslaw Wacha and Michal Logosz/Robert Mateusiak to win 2 points. Netherlands has 2 strong singles in Dicky Palyama and Eric Pang.
England to beat Russia
abedeng 02-15-2008, 06:16 AM England Uber team are in bad shape, losing the 1st two singles in straight games.
Denmark 1 up on Russia. France 1 up on Scotland.
abedeng 02-15-2008, 07:59 AM The hosts have beaten England 3-1.
Denmark beat Russia 3-0.
France and Scotland at 2-2.
abedeng 02-15-2008, 08:28 AM Scotland had beaten France 3-2.
Tomorrow's semifinals will see Germany vs Denmark and Netherlands vs Scotland.
badboypedi 02-15-2008, 09:43 AM in germany we can watch the games of court 2 live @ bwin.de and we can bet on it...i just won a few euros with wacha beating palyama :)
germany´s joppien has to got into the 3rd set...
badboypedi 02-15-2008, 09:48 AM to our duch members! will there be any telecast of the matches in dutch tv??
if yes, (how) can i watch it in germany??
d65up2 02-15-2008, 02:45 PM yes No more England in women's section...goodbye England...Well I dun intend to see the English Thomas cup team in Jakarta either...Thomas cup would be better without Anthony Clark and Nathan Robertson
badMania 02-15-2008, 08:58 PM England and France are the casualties in the QF (Women) yesterday.
badMania 02-15-2008, 09:06 PM As expected, Poland and Netherlands shared the first 4 points, with Wacha and Logosz/Mateusiak contributing the points. Wacha became the hero as he partnered Adam Cwalina to seal the last tie and won it 3-2! Congrats to Poland!
The Semi-Finals lineup:
MEN'S TEAM
Denmark vs Germany -- another 3-0 sweep for Denmark.
Poland vs England -- could be another nail-biter here. Wacha and Logosz/Mateusiak to contribute the first 2 points, but, England has the edge in the other 2 singles and the second doubles. England to win this one, but, Poland has another chance to qualify for the Thomas Cup.
WOMEN'S TEAM
Germany vs Denmark -- it will be close with Xu Huaiwen and the second WD for Germany able to win the points. Nevertheless, Germany should qualify by beating Scotland in the playoff.
Scotland vs Netherlands -- no question, Netherlands to win.
d65up2 02-15-2008, 10:11 PM With England I am not that surprised cos Holland is a decent team...especially in the singles department...But France got knocked out is a dissappoinment considering they have Pi Hong Yuan who are ranked top 10 in the world...

I hope is bye bye England......Poland are capable of an upset here

that's the problem with team tournaments...it's a team tournament! :D:p;), no matter how good 1 player does, if the team fails, you fail

Its a shame with Pi Hong Yuan....I mean losing to Scotland is a big blow for France....I mean on paper France is the better team
badboypedi 02-16-2008, 05:34 AM ha, juliane schenk just won the first set against tine rasmussen with 21-17..xu huaiwen doenst play because of a stomach infection...
d65up2 02-16-2008, 06:19 AM Well well in the last Uber cup I think Holland were in the final in it?? But this time is gonna be difficult with HK being there and not forgetting Japan and Korea
**KZ** 02-16-2008, 08:45 AM the dutch made the semis in the last UC but back then they were stronger with judith on top form and they also have mia...or not?...judith is no longer as good as she was the last time being plagued by injuries...hope europe can do well again...
badMania 02-16-2008, 10:08 AM In the Women's Team, Denmark beat Germany 3-1, while the host Netherlands also strolled to a 3-0 win over Scotland. They will meet in the Final tomorrow, booking their places in Jakarta for the Uber Cup.
The playoffs will pitt Scotland against Germany, with Germany the overwhelming favorite to take the last spot.
Asian teams should now be relieved as I believe the fourth-placed team will surely rank better than Scotland
badMania 02-16-2008, 10:36 AM A strange lineup for Poland as they rested their 3 key players for today's match against England and ended up losing 0-3 easily
It look's like they are looking for a bitter battle against Germany for the last spot in the Finals in Jakarta.
Meanwhile, Germany themselves is holding on as they just won the first MD, with Roman Spitko/Michael Fuchs beating Jens Eriksen/Martin Lundgaard Hansen in straight sets 21-19, 21-13 .
It will be tough for Poland tomorrow....and Wacha+Logosz/Mateusiak MUST WIN their matches at all cost and steal the third singles or second MD!
badboypedi 02-16-2008, 11:09 AM wow, im really impressed...my german team is in top-form =)
spitko/fuchs beat the danes in straight sets and marc zwiebler forces peter gade into a 3rd set!!
badboypedi 02-16-2008, 11:56 AM again my question: will there be any tv coverage??
demolidor 02-16-2008, 02:57 PM again my question: will there be any tv coverage??
lmao ... :D. Apparently the only reason there were cameras yesterday is to do a story on Yao Jie but there was a brief highlight on tv later that day (1 minute max). Didn't see a camera at all today but could be because I arrived fashionably late ;). A noon start for semi's  (and QF I might add ) ... ridiculous.

demolidor 02-16-2008, 04:39 PM Predictions:
WOMEN'S TEAM
Netherlands vs England is 50-50. England has an edge in the doubles, with Netherlands in the Singles. Strange though that Yao Jie is not playing in singles
In case you haven't found out by now Jie has a minor knee injury and apparently for the finals a new #3 might have to play also because of a minor injury ...
D*mn still on page 2. Don't want to post to many pics on the same page ...
badMania 02-16-2008, 07:19 PM Denmark beat Germany 3-1, but, not without a scare though  They will meet England in the Final today.
Both Peter Gade and Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen were forced to rubber-sets by Mark Zwiebler and Kristoff Hopp/Johannes Schoettler. This bodes well for Germany today, facing Poland in the playoffs.
As I mentioned, Poland DEFINITELY will rely on Przmyslaw Wacha and Michal Logosz/Robert Mateusiak to win the first two points, but, these will be tough matches against Bjoern Joppien and Roman Spitko/Michal Fuchs.
The third point will be hard to come by as Mark Zweibler and the second doubles should have an edge. The key decider might be on the third singles, with both teams fielding unknown players  It will be a nail-biter!
ctjcad 02-17-2008, 12:39 AM ... bouncer #1 step forward please
..is it me or does the Danish' team's red-colored team attire remind me of CHN's red-colored team attire...I guess they want to be the European version of CHN, eh??..Although, the German's squad is also trying to mimic the same red attire..:p
george@chongwei 02-17-2008, 02:13 AM does anyone knows where to watch this event live???
badboypedi 02-17-2008, 02:22 AM does anyone knows where to watch this event live???

stork 02-17-2008, 02:50 AM agree with badMania:
my PAW´s
pick01: Wacha over Joppien, both Players from Langenfeld, know each other well, Wacha wins
pick02:Logosz/Mateusiak to win over Spitko/Fuchs
pick03: Zwiebler to take it (he should play first MS and also beat Wacha)
pick04: second double should be taken by Germany
pick05: Roman Spitko? wins
xXazn_romeoXx 02-17-2008, 04:48 AM hmm, haizzz

you can always watch it on world of badminton ;), but the service isn't all perfect...
kar_mun 02-17-2008, 05:36 AM For men's team, Germany had beaten Poland 3-1. For women's team, Germany is leading 2-1 at this moment. I think Germany can beat Scotland.
badboypedi 02-17-2008, 07:37 AM do you know what racket peter gade is using in this picture??

abedeng 02-17-2008, 07:40 AM Germany women have beaten Scotland in the 3rd placing match.
This means that based on existing team rankings, advantage is to Asia to get 4 Uber Cup spots for all the 8 highest ranked Asian teams.

i believe that's the new ARC Saber line :D;), Zhang Ning was using one in a picture in the new arc saber 10 thread. Netherlands makes it 1-1 on the women's side. very emotional match :p;)

ctjcad 02-17-2008, 04:54 PM ..if either of the Danish's squads were to win the upcoming Thomas & Uber Cups, there would be a sea of reds (take it CHN wraps & defends both of the TC & UC)..
badMania 02-17-2008, 07:14 PM So the qualifiers from Europe:
THOMAS CUP -- Denmark, England, Germany
UBER CUP -- Denmark, Netherlands, Germany
Attention will now switch to the Asian Qualification Zones this week.
CLELY 02-18-2008, 02:59 AM Yeah, DEN-ENG-GER as Europe badminton giants have booked Thomas Cup final tickets, Congratulations! Also 2006 Uber Cup runner-up, Netherlands will accompany Denmark and Germany for Jakarta trip next May.
george@chongwei 02-18-2008, 06:07 AM congrats to the denmark team!!!
Fengwei 02-18-2008, 08:56 AM Demolidor, you went to the finals too? Somehow didn't see you (I don't know how you look like, so it's obvious). If you saw some Chinese youngster, it was me.

Hardcore ... :p.
badMania 02-19-2008, 08:40 PM 35 Euro for the ticket....that's quite expensive eh
demolidor 02-19-2008, 09:12 PM 35 Euro for the ticket....that's quite expensive eh
28 in pre-sale, for the whole 6 days, not too bad when a single ticket to either semis or final was 15 on the day. But indeed could be cheaper. They even had the nerve to charge for the nationals the week (or 2 weeks) before €27 in total for 3 days :D, suffice to say I didn't go then. Ran into a friend who was going to play and he agreed it was madness to pay to watch them play haha, did make a final though . And they wonder why there wasn't a big crowd besides the fact there was zero promotion in the city . Another friend only knew about it from a news ticker along the highway during the TUC week.
demolidor 02-19-2008, 09:31 PM :o Apparently said friend became national champion and it's not in MS ;). Really haven't paid any attention to it .
Anyway here's some footage of the TUC: http://player.nos.nl/index.php/media/play/tcmid/tcm:5-352594/category/sport/

Since I don't know what this year's China attire looks like I'd say it's you :P ...
I wonder if it has anything to do with their national flags  ... ;).
