There're 4 participating countries in this region to hunt 1 TUC final stage ticket, Brazil-Canada-Peru-USA. And obviously USA and CAN are the strong candidate to win this preliminary round.

Today's schedule from tournamentsoftware.com -- www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/matches.aspx?id=19056&y=2008&m=2&d=16 (http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/matches.aspx?id=19056&y=2008&m=2&d=16)

Wow, only 4 countries vying for spot. I think it shows where the interest of badminton lies in this region. Peru might be a dark horse. Brazil... nah. For the record... GO CANADA!

According to the first post, it's ONE team, so I guess you'll be rooting for USA

..(okay, i haven't followed the happenings & going ons esp. for the U.S. team), but noticed Bob M. wasn't featured in their match vs. Canada & Eric Go is not in the TC team. And for the Uber Cup team, i thought Eva Lee would play 1st WS in their match vs. Canada?..hmm, anyone knows the stories behind them??..

The Finals will be today, with both Canada and USA facing each other again in the Thomas and Uber Cups.

Canada should take both qualification spots based on the performance on Sunday.

Yup, that's right! Canada reached first position at group stage match yesterday and today's preliminary final will decide whether CAN or USA which represents Pan America zone to Jakarta TUC final phase. Overall, Canada teams show indication that they will win...

Guys, I'm always skeptical about Canada. They play better when they're the underdogs. When they're favourites, they tend to make things a little difficult for themselves. Almost like a Malaysia kinda syndrome. I hope they pull through though. Would be nice to have another country to root for in Jakarta.

TC: Canada 3-0 USA. Canada moves on to TC proper
UC: Canada 1-3 USA. USA moves on to UC proper

I think Canada really missed Anna Rice in the UC qualifying. She could have made the difference in qualifying

In group stage match of Uber Cup, CAN won over USA with narrow score 3-2 maybe US team has learnt a lot how to beat Canada in final day and they did it. Welcome to Jakarta for both teams!

..i think it's more so that team USA decided to play the card right by having Eva Lee just play in WD Doubles, while saving her for the Finals in WS1; Jamie Subandhi also wasn't featured in the group match play, the day earlier, thus the U.S. squad had an extra fresh body.
While on the other hand, Canada featured and used exactly the same players for both days. Fatigue also could fall in??..

On the basis of the Women's line-ups, I'd have been very surprised if Canada had won twice in a row. Even when Canada beat USA in the group stage, the matches were quite close; you could say it could gone either way then. There is a good crop of youngsters coming through the ranks in the women's game in Canada so we'll see in a few years if they'll be better. Congrats to the US and best of luck in the UC finals.

As for the men's, Canada pretty much fielded its strongest team, with an exception or two. In any case our men's singles was significantly stronger than what the US could offer. We didn't need to expose our doubles. Ah well, at least one of two made it to Jakarta.
