WS1 Wong Mew Choo [MAS] - [IND] Nehwal Saina
WS2 Wong Julia Pei Xian [MAS] - [IND] Murgunde Trupti
WS3 Kaur Anita Raj [MAS] - [IND] Mutatkar Aditi
WD1 Wong Pei Tty [MAS] Chin Eei Hui [MAS] - [IND] Gutta Jwala [IND] Kurian Shruti
WD2 Lim Pek Siah [MAS] Haw Chiou Hwee [MAS] - [IND] Nehwal Saina [IND] Balan Aparna

At a glance, MAS has the upper hand. MAS looks superior in all 5 matches, especially in the doubles.

Other ties of consequence (which decide group winner and runner-up) :

Group A: MAS v TPE
MAS may drop a doubles match but ultimately will still win in relative comfort

Group B: KOR v VIE
Comfortable for KOR, and SIN to place second

Group C: JPN v IND
JPN superior in doubles, but IND may take all singles. Hard to call. Predict JPN 3-2

Group D: HKG v THA
Another one hard to call. MS1 should go to Boonsak. MS2 and MD1 are up for grabs. Predict THA 3-2.

Group W: JPN v THA
JPN comfortable

Group X: KOR v SIN
KOR comfortable

Group Y: TPE v HKG
TPE will probably take both the doubles matches. But can they steal one singles match? WS3 is an unknown variable and may well decide the tie if both Wang Chen and Yippy win. Prediction: TPE 3-2

Group Z: MAS v IND

Men's Team
Sri Lanka vs Macau -- an inconsequential match.

Malaysia vs Chinese-Taipei -- MAS to stroll to a victory, thanks to the strength of their singles. But, as hcyong said, CT might steal one point from the doubles.

Philippines vs Cambodia -- another inconsequential match.

Japan vs India -- Japan to edge it out, thanks to their 2 doubles and probably Sho Sasaki.

Korea vs Vietnam -- no question, Korea to win it comfortably, but, Nguyen Tien-Minh could always surprise us.

Hong Kong vs Thailand (MATCH OF THE DAY) -- expect a cracking match to the wire...hard to say who will win. If Chan Yan Kit can somehow beat Boonsak Ponsana, Hong Kong will have the edge. At the moment, Boonsak Ponsana, Sudket Prapakamol/Phattapol Ngensrisuk and their third singles can provide the victory they desperately need.

Women's Team
Korea vs Singapore -- no question again, Korea to top the group.

Malaysia vs India -- Malaysia to win it and top the group.

Japan vs Thailand -- Japan's cuties will power them to the top.

Chinese-Taipei vs Hong Kong (MATCH OF THE DAY) -- another cracker which is expected to last the distance. Wang Chen and Yip Pui Yin are expected to win 2 points for Hong Kong, but, Chien Yu-Chin/Cheng Wen-Hsing and CT's third singles have the edges over their Hong Kong counterparts. The key will be the second doubles, which I think will also favor Chinese-Taipei. Zhou Mi's absence is indeed a huge blow to the Hong Kong team.

Saina needed to win against WMC for IND to have a glimmer of hope. Now that WMC has won the WS1 (only just), looks like MAS will cruise.

Both WMC and Jun Jae Youn were heavily stretched by Saina and Xing Aiying respectively. 3 game hard battles for both.

Jun Jae Yun nearly lost, winning the second set 21-19, after losing the first set 13-21. I think Xing Aiying was exhausted as she lost the third one easily 12-21.

Similarly, Wong Mew Choo just scraped through, taking it 22-20 in the second set, also after losing the first set 15-21. The third set was pretty close as well at 21-17.

Facing Singapore next, Malaysia will have some problems.

Just got back and scanned through the early results. Must say both Saina and Xing put up great efforts in their matches. Judging by the scores in the second games, both could have won and closed out their matches in 2 games. I guess in the end, experience prevailed, and JJY and WMC pulled through. MAS fans must have had many a heart attack (hehehe)

As expected,Korea team win over Singapore team with 5-0.So Malaysia will play against Singapore team tomorrow.

It should be a thriller tomorrow:
WS1: Xing Aiying vs Wong Mew Choo -- WMC has the edge, but, she's not fully fit yet.

WD1: Jiang Yanmei/Li Yujia vs Wong Pei Tty/Chin Ee Hui -- this is a point that SIN must win, but both pairs are only separated by 1 place in the ranking table. A tough match in prospect!

WS2: Gu Juan vs Julia Wong -- Julia should have a slight edge.

WD2: Yao Lei/Shinta Mulia Sari vs Haw Chiou Hwee/Lim Pek Siah -- another tough match and MAS will wrap it up if they can beat the SIN pair.

WS3: Zhang Beiwen vs Anita Raj Kaur or Lydia Cheah -- if MAS still has yet to wrap it up, either one of their players will have to play a match of their life to salvage the tie.

In conclusion, MAS to win 3-0 or 3-1.

Don't worry about Singapore. Li Li has gone and our Uber Cup team is now weakened by her departure. Singapore was completely whitewashed by Korea this morning. In terms of exposure, your girls are more experienced.;)

Loh, I think you are living in the past with Li Li. Look at this new Singapore team. They are not whitewashed by KOR. KOR took 4 hours to beat Singapore. Your cannot see the score as 0-5.

Aiying took the World No 11 Jun Jae Youn to 3 games. Gu Juan gave Hwang Hye Young a scare in the 1st game. And Zhang Beiwen nearly upset Lee Yun Hwa 22-24 21-23.

And the Singapore 1st Women Doubles pair also pushed the KOR World No. 4 very tightly.

And boy, the scratch pair of Shinta and Yao Lei really pushed the KOR World No 16 pair to 2 tight games 17-21 20-22.

Whereas look at MAS team , their 1st Women's Singles WMC nearly lost to Saina Nehwal. Their 2nd WD pair also pushed the MAS 2nd WD pair to 3 games and they are nobody.

When predicted TW doubles will steal a point or 2, instead they were well beaten by KOO/TAN & CHOONG/LEE respectively.
The results shows that MAS MS are very fragile. Would be interesting affair to know who can win for MS2 & MS3 if MAS vs KOREA in the final.

A very good sign is the 3rd set (for both WC and Hafiz) was won with ease. It means our boys are fit. Augurs well for the finals with Korea, if it happens.

Sigh..Every matches against Korea is hard battle for Malaysia team.Korea with three tiger PSH,LHI and SSM.All of them are tough opponent.Hope Malaysia can win with first MS and two doubles.Anyway,i will cheer for WCH and Hafiz all the way.I believe in them.

we should actually root for our boys to win in all the 5 ties but knowingly our team, erm its just to labile. they cannot be predicted with exception of lee chong wei. only he is dependable. however, the girls' team is doing not too bad, though WMC was stretched by saina nehwal. which is good coz least, it serves as a wake up call for WMC. she shld prevail against XAY, but as for the CEH/WPT, i have a bad feeling they will disappoint us yet again. the other ties shld go in our favor:) GO TIGERS!!!

Boonsak Ponsana and Sudket Prapakamol/Phattapol Ngensrisuk make it 2-0 for Thailand now.

Similarly, the Japanese cuties are leading Thailand 2-0.

Wang Chen and Yip Pui Yin have expectedly won the points for Hong Kong as they cruise to a 2-0 lead. Yippy will have another match later on in the second women's doubles. That one could be the decider

as expected, malaysia team bt chinese taipei 4-1.!

You mean the gals beat India 4-1. Anita Kaur lost in 3rd WS.
The guys beat Taiwan 5-0.

TC : Korea vs Vietnam is with Korea leading 2-1. Surprise lost by PSH. Lee Hyun Il wasnt fielded. Maybe they thought could beat Vietnam 5-0.

Hong Kong has topped the Group in the Uber Cup after beating Chinese-Taipei 3-0. Mong Kwan Yi is the hero as she defeated Chiu Yi-Ju in rubber sets 21-15, 17-21, 21-8.

Japan also tops their Group as they beat Thailand 3-0 in the Uber Cup.

So, the matchups in the Quarter-Final are:
Japan vs Chinese-Taipei -- Japan's 3 singles players will guarantee their progress!
India vs Korea -- a no-brainer....Korea to progress for sure!
Thailand vs Hong Kong -- again, Wang Chen and Yip Pui Yin shoulder the responsibility of winning the first 2 points. The rest are up for grabs really, with the Thailand doubles having the edge over the Hong Kong pairs.
Malaysia vs Singapore -- MATCH OF THE ROUND

Don't count HK's doubles as underdog yet. Remember what happened during the Sudirman Cup? HK's 1st doubles is perfectly capable of beating the Thai pair. Also, if Wang Chen pairs up with Yip Pui Yin to play 2nd doubles, HK can steal another point there.

For the tie against Thailand, is Yippy still scheduled to play with Chan Tsz Ka? I hope to see everyone from HK who is on the Uber Cup roster to get a chance to play. Ng Kar Shun still hasn't played yet. Hope she'll have some action too (ie pair up with Yippy for 2nd doubles?).

PS. I still have faith that Koon Wai Chee and Chau Hoi Wah can beat the Thai pair :). Hope everything goes well for HK :)
