Men's
MAS v IND :
Comfortable for MAS, but IND could steal a point or 2 in MS
TPE v JPN :
TPE actually has both the singles and doubles to upset JPN, but odds are for JPN to win this tie
KOR v HKG :
Comfortable for KOR
THA v SIN :
Boonsak with doubles power should see them through, the other two singles also favour THA (or at least 50-50). Odds on for THA

Women's
KOR v IND :
Comfortable for KOR
MAS v SIN :
MAS is stronger is all departments, but only just slightly stronger.
TPE v JPN :
TPE could take both WS1 (Cheng) and WD1 (Cheng/Chien). But they will find it hard to find another point. Close.
HKG v THA :
Wang Chen and Yippy are almost sure points. But THA can take the 2 doubles. As in the tie between HKG and TPE, this could go to WS3. 50-50.

Men's Team:
Malaysia vs India -- 3-0 for Malaysia, unless Hafiz starts to daydream again

Chinese-Taipei vs Japan -- interesting ties in the doubles, but, Japan's 3 singles should power them ahead.

Korea vs Hong Kong -- a breeze for Korea and bye2 to Hong Kong.

Thailand vs Singapore -- Boonsak Ponsana vs Kendrick Lee is 50-50, but, the other ties should go Thailand's way, especially with Hendri Kurniawan Saputra not competing this time round.

I think MAS Women's team will be toppled down by SIN. 1st WS will be taken by MAS, but 3 more matches will be gotten by SIN, 2nd WS, 1st WD, and 3rd WS..., remember in SEA Games, SIN also beat MAS Women's team....

I see MAS fans are approaching the matches with some apprehension. Being heavy favourites never sits well with MAS teams. It's time the MAS players take ownership of their places on the team (both men and women) and justify their superiority... significantly.

Wow, no wonder WMC was stretched almost to defeat when she played Saina ......

Saina's achilles heel is her fitness. Rarely do you see her win a 3rd game. Prime example was her loss to WMC. I'd hazard to say the same would have happened if Jun could have taken her to a rubber.

I saw it too, very very weird, I think the organisers got it wrong.
Msia's women must win this match against Spore, they will field strongest team, unless there's injury.

Sakamoto/Ikeda saved the days for Japan. Their promising MS Tago Kenichi delivered the winning point.
On the other node. Tago def this TW players in 30 mins while Mr Yoyo needs 3 games to settle him.
It looks abit worrying for MAS to count on HH to deliver if the game went into decider for their ties against IND

Or against any strong country.
I'm not that familiar with the rules, even though WCH is ranked higher, is it possible for WCH to be 3rd singles & Hafiz 2nd singles if the order is MS1, MD1, MS2, MD2, MS3?

I know in TC 2006, Rexy has fielded CCM/KKK bf as 1st MD & CTF/LWW as 2nd MD.

That is impossible to field HH as Second single , TC is based on World Ranking. If moved HH to MS2, then no other options beside fielding the debutants Arif as MS3.
If i am not mistaken ,CCM/KKK ranked higher than CTF/LWW before TC'06:cool:

Fang Chieh-Min/Lee Sheng-Mu lost very very closely 19-21, 23-25 to the WC bronze medallist Shuichi Sakamoto/Shintaro Ikeda, otherwise, they would have upsetted Japan in taking both doubles!

Chinese-Taipei's both MDs are really on the up trend now and they should be top 15 players in the next 1-2 years.

2 youngsters? Lim Pek Siah is a 28 yo experienced player, 1 youngster & 1 semi-veteran.

Lim Pek Siah/Ng Hui Lin is a worry, 1st time paired together, dunno what happened to Haw

Lim Pek Siah is an ex-Commonwealth Games champ. The MAS camp believes she has the experience to guide the youngster.

You could say MAS women's revival to the world stage after Sylvia Ng retired started with Lim Pek Siah/Chor Hooi Yee in 1998.

2 youngsters? Lim Pek Siah is a 28 yo experienced player, 1 youngster & 1 semi-veteran.
Lydia Cheah had that pressure in SEA Games as 3rd singles, she lost to the same opponent she's goin to face today.

What I meant was Lydia Cheah and Gu Juan :o

Yeah, I know, read her profile before. That was when Cheah Soon Kit came on board as WD coach.
She changed quite a no of partners - with Chor, then Ooi sthing, then Haw.
For this match, with Hui Lin.
KLRC & BAM combo... could be Cheah SK influence, very rare to see that happen in the past.
Recent times, only once, XD for WC 2007, Chan Peng Soon with Ooi. Ooi was with BAM then went over KLRC.

Badmania, he he cant beat your systematically filed info.

Now only on software, Lim/Ng won straight sets. Good for them.

Cheah came on board after 2000. Lim/Chor already showed their potential under Morten Frost, won the CG silver in 1998.

After the 2002 CG, Lim and Ang suddenly wanted to quit national team, I believe caused by some form of disagreement with Cheah. Fiery character, was our Cheah Soon Kit then. Now he has mellowed a lot.

Anyway congrats to MAS for making the Finals. Pretty sure Asia will get 4 spots, Scotland's ranking is quite far back.

Sorry, thought Cheah was already on board in 1998. Yeah, read news that Lim Pek Siah & Ang left due to they cant stand Cheah's hmmmm more demanding character. In 2007, Cheah still had the fire side of him left.

Oh yeah, Lim Pek Siah also partnered Joanne Quay for a spell, bf Joanne went to NZ. That makes 4 partners or so in 10 years. That means Lim is adaptable to different partners.

Thats great to know that Uber Cup Team Malaysia manage to win their tie against Singapore. Its a close call.

As I've posted previously, I don't expect our girls to win but I'm at least glad that our young Aiying is able to beat your no.1 Mew Choo in straight games. I'm sure WMC's loss is of concern to the Malaysian coaches coming so near the AE next month and the UC finals in May.

However I'm disappointed that our WD1 continues to do badly although I think the Malaysians had a higher ranking. I feel that our first doubles pair has not made any appreciable improvement. Wonder whose coaching them now - Eng Hian? :(

As for the rest of the Singapore girls, I hope they learn from the experience and be better prepared the next time. This exposure will do them good.

As for Malaysia, the real test will come when they meet the Koreans!

Sometimes, when BAM has this problem, the pairs are split. You think SBA could make it work? Maybe could turn out 2 strong pairs ..... since both Li Yujia and Jiang Yanmei are highly experienced and could provide leadership role.

Only one spot difference, Li Yujia/ Jiang Yanmei are World No 10, Msia's WPT/CEH are no 9.
Looking at the highlights Aerotus uploaded, our gals are starting to play like our MD, since Rexy now is in charge of WD too. WPT also said nowadays senior WD spar a lot with senior MD, so...
I'm not sure exactly how it makes a difference for WD, we'll have to see at AE and Swiss Open.

I have said about this pair since Macao Open last year:rolleyes:Their contribution are so vital to the success of the team SIN, unfortunately they just could not deliver when it matters most:crying::crying::crying:

I have to agree with you this time! :) Abedeng suggested a split with a younger partner for both but I'm not sure what the SBA has in mind. :(

It is too close to the olympic, perhaps split them after OG if the pair still do not show improvement by then:confused:
