Many matches involving Team INA.
One result: Lita Nurlita/Nitya Krishinda get a free ride to R16 after Joanne Nicholas/Natalie Munt withdraw. They are expected to meet the third-seed Jiang Yanmei/Li Yujia tomorrow.

Men's Singles:
9:00am Andre Kurniawan Tedjono [8] vs Anand Pawar -- should be a good warm-up match for Andre.

9:30am Vladislav Drunchenko vs Alamsyah Yunus -- a tricky match for Alam, but, I expect him to progress.

11:15am Tommy Sugiarto vs Scott Evans -- ditto for Tommy.

12:25pm Pablo Abian vs Andreas Adityawarman -- the INA player has a chance to win, but, the Spaniard is ranked higher

12:45pm Taufik Akbar Hidayat vs John Moody -- likewise for this Taufik. He can surprise us.

1:10pm Endra Kurniawan vs Nabil Lasmari -- ditto.

Women's Doubles
1:55pm Jo Novita/Greysia Polii vs Johanna Persson/Elin Berglom -- a tricky match, given that the Swedes gave Vita/Butet a hard time in the Korea Open. Still, Jo/Grace are expected to clear their first hurdle.

2:15pm Yulianti/Nathalia Poluakan vs Rani Mundiasti/Endang Nursugianti [8] -- it will be a disappointment if Rani/Endang fail to reach the quarter-final here.

Men's Doubles
3:25pm Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae [1] vs Tantowi Ahmad/Mohd Rijal -- the INA pair should just enjoy the experience playing against a top pair.

3:45pm Fran Kurniawan/Rendra Wijaya vs Johannes Scoettler/Tim Dettmann -- the Djarum pair is expected to continue their good form and progress further here.

4:10pm Tadashi Ohtsuka/Keita Masuda [4] vs Rian Sukmawan/Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki -- nothing much can be expected here since I heard that the Djarum pair might be suffering from another injury :eek:.

4:55pm Bona Septano/Mohd Ahsan vs Shuichi Sakamoto/Shintaro Ikeda [6] -- likewise, it will be a miracle if Bona/Ahsan were to progress here.

Women's Singles
6:25pm Wang Yihan vs Fransisca Ratnasari -- Nana has done well in qualifying for the main draw, adding some valuable ranking pts in the process. But, she is not expected to beat the Chinese player.

6:40pm Maria Kristin Yulianti vs Filipa Lamy -- Maria should win this one.

7:00pm Aprilia Yuswandari vs Petya Nedeltcheva [5] -- likewise, Aprilia is not expected to get past the first round.

Mixed Doubles
8:00pm Kristian Roebuck/Jenny Wallwork vs Tantowi Ahmad/Yulianti -- a tough match for young Towi/Yuli, I hope they don't freeze again like in the Russian Open first round

8:20pm Robin Middleton/Liza Smith vs Anggun Nugroho/Endang Nursugianti -- Anggun is an experienced XD player and this new pairing might have a chance of a future if they show consistent results.

8:20pm Chris Langridge/Joanne Nicholas vs Mohd Rijal/Greysia Polii -- a tricky one for Rijal/Grace, but, should be quite manageable.

9:40pm Rasmus Bonde/Christinna Pedersen vs Devin Lahardi/Lita Nurlita [7] -- not an easy draw for the seeded INA pair. The improving Danish pair might surprise us today :o:eek:

So far so good for the MS:
Andreas Adityawarman has won too.....So do the non-Pelatnas players like Taufik Akbar Hidayat and Endra Kurniawan.

However, expect them to fall tomorrow.....as Andreas will face Mohd Roslin Hashim (his result is still not out yet), Taufik Akbar will face Dicky Palyama, while Endra will likely face Lee Hyun Il.

02-27-2008, 07:38 AM
INA will have 3 representatives in the WD tomorrow as Jo Novita/Greysia Polii defeat Johanna Persson/Elin Berglom 21-15, 21-14. They will face the Japanese pair Aki Akao/Tomomi Matsuda for a place in the last eight.

Meanwhile, the new pair of Nathalia Poluakan/Yulianti are thrashing their seeded senior Rani Mundiasti/Endang Nursugianti 21-10 in the first set.

badMania
02-27-2008, 09:40 AM
Up next for Fran Kurniawan/Rendra Wijaya will be the improved Chinese-Taipei pair of Fang Chieh-Min/Lee Sheng-Mu. Can Fran/Rendra beat them and progress to the QF?

If Rian/Yoke can get past the Russian/Canadian pair tomorrow (they should be "easier" to face than the Japanese pair today ), then, its likely they have a Korean pair Han Sang Hoon/Cho Gun Woo as their opponent in the QF. Remember...this Korean pair beat Kido/Hendra in the All-England R16 last year :o Rian/Yoke also lost to the junior Korean pair of Kwon Yi Goo/Koo Sung Hyun in the Vietnam Open 2007  So, not so easy for Rian/Yoke to reach the SF as well.

So far Bona-Ahsan is proving our 'pessimistic' expectation wrong... :D :D :D 21-12 in the 1st game, 3-1 in the 2nd against Sakamoto-Ikeda! Maybe the Japanese team ate the wrong food or still got jet-lag or something... They should not be outlassed by this INA pair... [though I am not complaining] :p :D

Antonius coaches them...Sigit for Junior...........

And Deni Kantono is coaching the Djarum WD now. He just joined the coaching team again.

That Bronze medalist Antonious???

Yes, the 1996 MD Atlanta Olympic Bronze Medalist Antonius-Deni...

13 smashes vs 7 by the Japanese pair. This could be a reason?

badMania
02-27-2008, 10:24 AM

I heard that 2 Fang Kaixiang's former pupils [from the singles training camp]: Jenna and Delis [both 18 year olds] have quite impressed the Djarum doubles coaching staff... :) Their legs are not fast enough for the singles game, but their hand skills are quite remarkable... :p

Basically Djarum will use the [now] numerous INA tournaments in 2008 to naturally select the next good WD pair to complement Mel-Shendy... :)

Bona-Ahsan probably are compacent when they get to 19-15....and thought they won...they should now put it in their mind that they have not won the tie until they reached the point 21.....so hope Bona would go home now and have a hard thinkabout

2 of INA's XD pairs have advanced, while the other 2 fell, including the seeded Devin Lahardi/Lita Nurlita who lost to Rasmus Bonde/Christina Pedersen (which confirmed my fear)

The 2 promising pairs Mohd Rijal/Greysia Polii and Tantowi Ahmad/Yulianti showed us why they are INA's future as they won in rubber-sets.

Towi/Yuli will challenge the top-seed He Hanbin/Yu Yang while Rijal/Grace will have a winnable tie against Robin Middleton/Liza Smith. The English pair beat Anggun Nugroho/Endang Nursugianti 21-19, 21-19 last night.

As expected, only Maria Kristin Yulianti managed to go further in the WS, beating Filipa Lamy easily 21-11, 21-6. Fransisca Ratnasari lost to Wang Yihan in two close sets 18-21, 21-23; while Aprilia Yuswandari also lost to Petya Nedeltcheva 21-23, 9-21.

Maria has a tough match against the third-seed Eriko Hirose today.
