View Full Version : Racket Recommendation... No Yonex!

Hi,

after I allocate some budget to my shoe, I here still have some left for new racket.

For you information, I had broke 2 Yonex MP77 in 1 and 1/2 year, and is very dissapointed with Yonex product. Now using RSL Millennium 4 Ti Energy 4180.

with the RSL racket, I found out that is not at stiff as the MP77, i can't get the shutter to land!! It will goes straight and out of the court, yes, it is during my hi-speed smashing (this never happened to my MP77). so I read through the whole BC and found out that racket stiffness also contribute to smashing accurately(bending racket will cause shutter to do clearance instead of smash).

My style of playing. 60%doubles, 40%singles. favourite style?:- tricky net play + powerfull baseline to basline clear + hi-speed smash from rear midcourt + some selfmade style dropping& net play..... so, I prefer control with solid feeling. so, I try to get stiff racket with hi tention string on it. I also have well build muscle for all those smashing and clearance... so no power worry. all those muscle also covered by layers of fat:p... ya, i'm heavy.

So, I would like to get advice on racket which is stiff.... if possible stiffer then the MP77. recommendation on which brand and model please. Budget is around RM300+-.... RM320Max.... so Yonex is way too expensive for me. other brands are welcome!!:D as long as it can last for heavy smash... old models also welcomed. prefer balanced racket, or not too light racket. No to heavy racket(as will affect my net playing style).

And also let me know where to get in Malaysia, I'm malaysian. KL and Penang and Kedah is where i belong. badminton playing hours... monday 7~9pm, sat 9~12, sun 9~12....

Please recommend, all comment are welcome.

thanks,
Popopi

You can try Pro-ACE platinum dream or thunderbolt II.
I think Young Ones in Penang carries it if I'm not mistaken.

They are pretty solid racquets.

Or Wilson N-code series. May pay more for the K-factor series though. Cheaper to buy from Singapore though.

APACS is also a budget brand racquet you can consider but with so many Yonex-type clones, it's very difficult to choose which ones.

If you want a tough Yonex racquet under RM 300, get CAB21 SP, It lasted me 7 years and survived 10 plus clashes. Many paint chips but no structural damage.

string;
1. yonex BG-80 @ 26-28 lbs
2. yonex BG-85 @ 28-30lbs
so far, yonex string still the best choice. try to avoid ti strings or other brand.

Pro-ACE is the brand.

Platinum Dream is a good Pro-ACE model.

Thunderbolt II supposed to be one of the top Pro-ACE model. Not sure which is their latest model though.

Forgot to mentioned Pro-tech, another brand which is also a budget racquet....quite solid but a lot of vibrations.

30lbs? is it too much for the X2 Pro? the RSL site stated maximum 28lbs for X2 Pro only, will the string kill the racket? deformed? or split into 2?

Hock Eng Bangi. Pls call 012-2329981 (Edy Lim). Last weeek i ask him about the price of this racket and he told me is about RM298 + free string, grip and bag. Better you contact him for confirmation. To me it s reasonable price for a new model compare to yonex.

i dont really or 100% trust what is convey through tele-conversation.
those salesman or boss, intend to lure you come to the shop first.
then, if you are there, and found out, it is not really what you want, they persuade you to buy others....... marketing strategy......:D

After looking at Pertama complex can take a nearest komuter train from Bank Negara station to UKM bangi station. Then get a taxi. The shop is at section 15 near the petronas station. Hope u success...

Hi Popopi,

I usually buy SOTX rackets from HK. I am not sure where you can buy it in Malaysia. I will certainly try and find out for you. It costs around US$90 there. Alternatively, you could order from puppysports.com. They deliver as well to Malaysia. There price on the net is US$95 + shipping.
