View Full Version : German Open 2008: Day 3 (28/02)
badMania 02-27-2008, 09:09 PM After a good showing yesterday, expect lots of casualties for Team INA today :o
Men's Singles
10:00am Andre Kurniawan Tedjono [8] vs Alamsyah Yunus -- Djarum vs Pelatnas and Djarum shall prevail.
11:15am Tommy Sugiarto vs Kendrick Lee Yen Hui [5] -- a tough match for Tommy, but, Kendrick is not so convincing yesterday.
12:05pm Andreas Adityawarman vs Mohd Roslin Hashim [7] -- ditto for Andreas.
12:30pm Taufik Akbar Hidayat vs Dicky Palyama [16] -- this Taufik has surprised us before and he could probably score another upset?
12:30pm Endra Kurniawan vs Lee Hyun Il [2] -- only the brave will predict a win for Endra.
Women's Doubles
12:55pm Aki Akao/Tomomi Matsuda [6] vs Jo Novita/Greysia Polii -- this will be a tough match against the Japanese pair, and I hope Jo/Grace can win! The last time they met, it was an extremely long match, lasting 3 sets and 107 mins in the French Open QF
1:20pm Jiang Yanmei/Li Yujia [3] vs Lita Nurlita/Nitya Krishinda -- no chance for Lita/Nitya.
1:45pm Heather Olver/Liza Smith vs Rani Mundiasti/Endang Nursugianti [8] -- Rani/Endang have yet to convince me and they need at least a QF spot here to strengthen their Olympic hopes.
Men's Doubles
2:35pm Fang Chieh-Min/Lee Sheng-Mu vs Fran Kurniawan/Rendra Wijaya -- a chance for Fran/Rendra to enter the QF and extend their unbeaten run for the year. Fang/Lee have been on a steady rise and they will be a tough nut to crack :o
3:00pm Rian Sukmawan/Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki vs Vitalij Durkin/Alexander Nikolaenko -- it was a good result for Rian/Yoke yesterday and they have a chance of making it 2 out of 2 today.
Women's Singles
4:40pm Eriko Hirose [3] vs Maria Kristin Yulianti -- bye2 Maria. Her progress will be stopped today.
Mixed Doubles
5:55pm He Hanbin/Yu Yang [1] vs Tantowi Ahmad/Yulianti -- He/Yu will definitely be China's no 1 XD pair in the near future. Towi/Yuli will also be handed a huge responsibility by the INA squad. So, they better get used to the tough encounter starting from today.
5:55pm Mohd Rijal/Greysia Polii vs Robin Middleton/Liza Smith -- Rijal/Grace also better star winning some titles this year! They have a tricky tie today against the English pair who beat Anggun/Endang yesterday.
hcyong 02-27-2008, 09:33 PM I expect Hwang Hye Youn and Eriko Hirose to win today, and to be on collision course :)
george@chongwei 02-27-2008, 10:25 PM i juz hope that roslin hashim 2day will win his match.
vching 02-27-2008, 10:29 PM go go roslin! :D :D :D

Yup, Jo/Greysia must collect many points to accompany Vita/Lilyana in Beijing Games as their WR is 24 now. And Rani/Endang really need a breakthrough to improve their stagnant performance.
There's one interesting WS match today, Jiang Yanjiao vs Jun Jae Youn. Although Jiang didn't get any seeding here, she's still potential to overcome Jun this time.

I agree with your predictions for today almost in everything, badMania. I just think that Fran-Rendra will win today. Maybe in rubber sets, but they will win... That's my prediction. :p I think Fran-Rendra will only loose to Lee-Jung tomorrow, but they won't loose today... :D
Krisna 02-28-2008, 03:08 AM Not a chance! Jun will overcome Jiang ;):D I must be the only Jun supporter on BC today

By right, our MD should win. But, Fang/Lee have beaten AG/Joko in Korea Open 2008 and they have improved a lot as I have witnessed it too. So, it will be a tough fight.

Andrea will win the rubber.
badMania 02-28-2008, 03:57 AM Andrea will win the rubber.
LOL...robin keeps referring to Andre as Andrea (since last year :o)
samuel882 02-28-2008, 03:57 AM Its time for Taiwanese MS to shine , they've been quite long under the the shadow of their doubles' counterpart.
Krisna 02-28-2008, 03:57 AM Andre is a mentally tough player. See... he took the 2nd game 23-21. Andre is also extemely fit. He can wear [the also fit] Alamsyah down...
badMania 02-28-2008, 03:59 AM Andre is a mentally tough player. See... he took the 2nd game 23-21. Andre is also extemely fit. He can wear [the also fit] Alamsyah down...
Still close and tight in the rubber-set. This will go past the hour mark for sure.
Krisna 02-28-2008, 04:00 AM Its time for Taiwanes MS to shine , they've been quite long under the the shadow of their doubles' counterpart.
From what I know, the best Taiwanese MS of all time was Fung Permadi in the late 1990s... And he was Indonesian. He played for Taiwan because his mom divorced his Indonesian father and then married a Taiwanese... :p
robin7 02-28-2008, 04:00 AM LOL...robin keeps referring to Andre as Andrea (since last year :o)
Oops, I didn't notice!:o
badMania 02-28-2008, 04:03 AM From what I know, the best Taiwanese MS of all time was Fung Permadi in the late 1990s... And he was Indonesian. He played for Taiwan because his mom divorced his Indonesian father and then married a Taiwanese... :p
I thought Fung is still an Indonesian ? Anyway, he has returned back to INA and is now Djarum's manager right?
madbad 02-28-2008, 04:06 AM Yunus still putting up a good fight, down 7-8
apontoh 02-28-2008, 04:08 AM Andre and Yunus still duking it out, 10-8 in the decider
hhs1000 02-28-2008, 04:09 AM The winner is ...... Sho Sasaki. Anyone of them will be too tired to take on the Samurai after this game.
madbad 02-28-2008, 04:09 AM Yunus pulls even to 10-10
madbad 02-28-2008, 04:10 AM Pretty uneventful thus far. All the favoured players have won handily
huangkwokhau 02-28-2008, 04:12 AM no..no..12 all again...Alamsyah is so petite
Krisna 02-28-2008, 04:13 AM I thought Fung is still an Indonesian ? Anyway, he has returned back to INA and is now Djarum's manager right?
Yes, his citizenship is Indonesian. I think he has a Taiwanese green card or something. Like Tony Gunawan in the USA... ;)
huangkwokhau 02-28-2008, 04:13 AM Tommy vs Kendrik
Gong vs the future of DEN...Jogersen....very interesting matches to come
huangkwokhau 02-28-2008, 04:14 AM Gee...67 minutes between Alamsyah and Andre...soon will be 80 minutes
huangkwokhau 02-28-2008, 04:15 AM Tago lost first set 17-21 to Denmark
Krisna 02-28-2008, 04:15 AM From the statistics, Andre is attacking more in game 3. 7 smash winners vs. 2 from Alamsyah. But Alam got 10 points from 'others'... including unforced errors from Andre... Maybe Andre is just playing a higher risk game...
madbad 02-28-2008, 04:15 AM I expect Kendrick to continue his run of form. Yunus holding the upperhand 16-13. Kenichi has woken up, leads 8-1.
robin7 02-28-2008, 04:16 AM Camon, Yunus, u deserve to win... Sorry Andre (I spell it right this time).
samuel882 02-28-2008, 04:16 AM Yes ! Yunus ! You Are The Man.
5 More Pts !
robin7 02-28-2008, 04:17 AM Yunus is 4 pts away... Camon, don't repeat the 2nd game...
madbad 02-28-2008, 04:17 AM Yunus stretches the lead to 18-14, no 18-15
Krisna 02-28-2008, 04:18 AM The winner is ...... Sho Sasaki. Anyone of them will be too tired to take on the Samurai after this game.
You're right! :( Both Andre and Alam played 3 games yesterday too... :( They cannot keep this up for the whole tournament... :(
Still 15-18 in favor of Alam now....
huangkwokhau 02-28-2008, 04:18 AM Looks like Alamsyah gonna win
madbad 02-28-2008, 04:18 AM Hsieh making life difficult for SSM, up 12-10
robin7 02-28-2008, 04:19 AM Oh dear, Andre is catching up from 14-18 to 17-18.

badboypedi 02-28-2008, 04:20 AM oh my god!! the match between tedjono and alamsyah is about 74 minutes now :-O
apontoh 02-28-2008, 04:20 AM deadlock between andre-yunus, 18-18
Krisna 02-28-2008, 04:20 AM Andre keeps smashing and attacking the net!

badMania 02-28-2008, 04:21 AM Andre surges ahead 19-18, despite trailing 14-18 just now!

madbad 02-28-2008, 04:22 AM He trails all match but pulls one out of the fire. Andre wins 21-18 in the rubber
huangkwokhau 02-28-2008, 04:23 AM 7 all for Tommy and Kendrik
Krisna 02-28-2008, 04:23 AM Game to Andre! Ladies and Gentlemen... it is quite clear who should represent the number 4 INA MS in the May 2008 Thomas Cup now! Andre is much higher ranked, fitter, more experienced, and mentally tougher than Alam and Tommy!
robin7 02-28-2008, 04:23 AM ****, 7 straight pts from 14-18 down to win the match.
badMania 02-28-2008, 04:23 AM It's all over...a very entertaining match that lasted 76 mins :o:eek:
Andre Kurniawan Tedjono marches on to face Sho Sasaki later on, with a rubber-set 17-21, 23-21, 21-18 victory over Alamsyah Yunus. Alam simply freezed at 18-14  He also wasted 2 match pts in the second set.
huangkwokhau 02-28-2008, 04:24 AM He trails all match but pulls one out of the fire. Andre wins 21-18 in the rubber
Similar to MAS Open..he trailed Eric Pang 2nd and 3rd, both ended 22-20...;)
badMania 02-28-2008, 04:24 AM Game to Andre! Ladies and Gentlemen... it is quite clear who should represent the number 4 INA MS in the Thomas Cup now! Andre
Haha...Fully Support!!! Who knows Andre could be our trump card? What abt Rian/Yoke as a backup doubles pair to replace AG/Joko?
madbad 02-28-2008, 04:24 AM SSM finally passes Hsieh 19-17. Kenichi at game point 20-11
badMania 02-28-2008, 04:25 AM YES!! Andre won in 76 minutes...hm,...lets see he has energy or not for tomorrow against sasaki
Not tomorrow...its TONIGHT in German!
hhs1000 02-28-2008, 04:25 AM Andre is showing the PBSI selectors on how good his mental strength by coming from behind all the times.
The game against Sho Sasaki will be later today. If he can also show his supreme fitness level by winning, the 4th spot for Thomas Cup is confirmed.
huangkwokhau 02-28-2008, 04:25 AM Game to Andre! Ladies and Gentlemen... it is quite clear who should represent the number 4 INA MS in the May 2008 Thomas Cup now! Andre is much higher ranked, fitter, more experienced, and mentally tougher than Alam and Tommy!
Hope there is no politic involved....PBSI should be fair and call potential players to9 fight for number 4...so far is Andre...honestly there is no need for PBSI to do selection....
madbad 02-28-2008, 04:26 AM Tommy hanging with Kendrick 9-11. Gong making a move on Jan O, 7-9
huangkwokhau 02-28-2008, 04:26 AM SSM won..as well as my PAW...hehe
samuel882 02-28-2008, 04:27 AM What about Tommy? if he pulls an upset against Kenderick Lee, God knows he will be selected ahead of Andre for the MS4 Slot
madbad 02-28-2008, 04:30 AM What about Tommy? if he pulls an upset against Kenderick Lee, God knows he will be selected ahead of Andre for the MS4 Slot
I think Andre is a little ahead of Tommy at the moment, and also stronger mentally.
badMania 02-28-2008, 04:30 AM What about Tommy? if he pulls an upset against Kenderick Lee, God knows he will be selected ahead of Andre for the MS4 Slot
Tommy's performance is less stable than Andre. As Krisna mentioned, Andre has a fighting spirit that is better than either Tommy or Alamsyah.
madbad 02-28-2008, 04:31 AM I think Tommy is trying to prove us all wrong, leads 16-15
abedeng 02-28-2008, 04:31 AM Ladies and Gentlemen... it is quite clear who should represent the number 4 INA MS in the May 2008 Thomas Cup now! Andre is much higher ranked, fitter, more experienced, and mentally tougher than Alam and Tommy!
Yup, he gets my vote ........ :D. Great comeback, ala WMC in China Open.
Krisna 02-28-2008, 04:32 AM Haha...Fully Support!!! Who knows Andre could be our trump card? What abt Rian/Yoke as a backup doubles pair to replace AG/Joko?
Possible... yet still can be debated... Joko-Hendra are higher ranked than Rian-Yoke at this point... The Andre case will get more support from many fronts... :) If Rian-Yoke do really well in this German Open [SF or better] and somehow trouble [or even beat] Cai-Fu at the All England championship next week... then the number 3 doubles spot can possibly be considered for them... ;)
huangkwokhau 02-28-2008, 04:35 AM Tommy an d Gong have match point
huangkwokhau 02-28-2008, 04:36 AM Oops....20 all for Tommy and Kendrik
madbad 02-28-2008, 04:36 AM Gong wins 21-17. Tommy 20-20 Kendrick
madbad 02-28-2008, 04:36 AM And just like that Kendrick wraps it up 22-20
huangkwokhau 02-28-2008, 04:36 AM Kendrik scored 3 straight point to seal first set 22-20
Krisna 02-28-2008, 04:37 AM Tommy's performance is less stable than Andre. As Krisna mentioned, Andre has a fighting spirit that is better than either Tommy or Alamsyah.
Andre is a great teammate to have in a team... He is respectful of all his teammates... Win or loose his body gestures and attitude is like a bull [no fear of fighting against anything] and never loose hope of winning. They call him 'Andre Banteng' [Andre the bull] in the badminton circle here... :D
madbad 02-28-2008, 04:37 AM Kenichi up 15-11 in the rubber v Jan O
badMania 02-28-2008, 04:38 AM Guys now you know why Tommy won't make it....he led 20-19, only for Kendrick to snap 3 pts to seal the first set. I don't expect him to win this one here :eek:
huangkwokhau 02-28-2008, 04:39 AM Tago was ahead in 3rd set now..16-14 instead
madbad 02-28-2008, 04:39 AM Tommy surges ahead 4-0 to open the 2nd. Kenichi 17-14 Jan O
Tommy an d Gong have match point
Oh poor Kendrick! He was beaten in Singapore by Alamsyah before.
Kendrick, fight back. After it is only Tommy, not the father! :)
huangkwokhau 02-28-2008, 04:40 AM Kenichi up 15-11 in the rubber v Jan O
You mean Martin Lasrsen...Jan is against Gong...;)
huangkwokhau 02-28-2008, 04:40 AM So fast Tommy leads 8-1
huangkwokhau 02-28-2008, 04:41 AM Oh poor Kendrick! He was beaten in Singapore by Alamsyah before.

madbad 02-28-2008, 04:46 AM What a weird match, Tommy reels off a bunch of points and now leads 14-7
Krisna 02-28-2008, 04:47 AM Oh wow, Tommy now leading 15-7 in game 2...
madbad 02-28-2008, 04:47 AM NTM claws back to 6-6 against Sato
madbad 02-28-2008, 04:48 AM Gong polishes off Jan O 21-17, 21-7
Erwin Kyoto 02-28-2008, 04:48 AM come on Sugiarto...take this 2nd game
huangkwokhau 02-28-2008, 04:49 AM Tommy and Kendrik will settle the 3rd set soon...19-11
badMania 02-28-2008, 04:50 AM Surprise, surprise, Tommy came back to level it at one-set a piece...21-11 in the second set.
huangkwokhau 02-28-2008, 04:50 AM Tommy had a chance to seal first set....here we go for 3rd set
huangkwokhau 02-28-2008, 04:51 AM Disadvantage for Kendrik is he played many matches last week ...I guess Tommy is abit fresher if he wins.......
badMania 02-28-2008, 04:55 AM The top half of MS R16 is settled now:
Park Sung Hwan [1] vs Lu Yi [14] -- an interesting encounter. Lu Yi's victory probably will make it easier for Andre to progress later on?
Andre Kurniawan Tedjono [8] vs Sho Sasaki [13] -- Andre survived a tough match just now...I still have faith in him reaching at least the QF and fulfills his 8th seeding.
Eric Pang vs Marc Zwiebler -- Pang to win!
Kenichi Tago vs Shon Sheung Mo -- the young gun might surprise us, but, Shon is slowly back to his 2004 form perhaps?
badMania 02-28-2008, 04:56 AM Look's like I am going to be wrong as Tommy is leading 11-6 at the interval of the rubber set  It's going to be a battle between Tommy and Andre at this moment.
huangkwokhau 02-28-2008, 04:56 AM wow...10-4 or Tommy.............may be Kendrik is tired
winzerer 02-28-2008, 04:57 AM Go Tommy, I guess he's the only Hoping youngster in pelatnas at the moment.
Wow...you have reached over 5000 posts...hehe
Hau-ge, I think very soon you will set an all-time BC record, at the rate you're going!
badMania 02-28-2008, 04:59 AM Kendrick is slowly catching up....from 2-10...now he cuts the deficit into just 4 pts at 8-12.
huangkwokhau 02-28-2008, 05:00 AM 14-9 so far for Tommy..........
winzerer 02-28-2008, 05:00 AM The top half of MS R16 is settled now:
I hope Zwiebler will win....to save german face here;)
huangkwokhau 02-28-2008, 05:01 AM Hau-ge, I think very soon you will set an all-time BC record, at the rate you're going!
