AndyL 03-03-2008, 11:50 AM Current one is Kason classic by Racket Supply, but the deadline is today so hurry!!!! http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49433 I usually look out for Bay Area Open tournaments, which just passes couple weeks ago. www.bayareaopen.org (http://www.bayareaopen.org) I heard some rumors about bay badminton going to have a tournament soon. www.baybadminton.com (http://www.baybadminton.com) GGBC is going to host 2008US ADULT NATIONAL BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIP dont know exact time and day. you can go check out their website www.ggbadminton.com I think its good idea to check all the clubs website for current events. Of course there are UC Berkeley tournaments & UC Davis tournaments you can join, but its little farther than in San Jose. JOJo1226 03-03-2008, 07:30 PM thanks! but 2day i ask my coach about it i cant join any tournment... he told me the only tournment dat i can join is the high school one kinda but i think i can plya in those tournment once the season is over... thanks anyway Joseph 03-06-2008, 02:28 AM thanks! but 2day i ask my coach about it i cant join any tournment... he told me the only tournment dat i can join is the high school one kinda but i think i can plya in those tournment once the season is over... thanks anyway You mean your high school coach? You should just play if you want to. I know there isn't any rule that says you can't play open tournaments. Unless your coach just doesn't want you to play. JOJo1226 03-06-2008, 03:40 AM mmm... na it told us about it.... but it wasnt dat clear... like it said dat we cant play in other league... i guess dat court toward tournment 2.... he told us about it that one of the student did dat, and their school got disquitfily Qidong 03-06-2008, 09:50 AM Is it because playing in open tournaments will lose your amateur status? Just like Michelle Wie can't play golf for Stanford. Memina 03-06-2008, 11:05 AM If I remember correctly, there is a rule in the NCS/CSS/ Local leagues, etc that states that once the H.S. badmitnon season starts, the players are either allowed to play 2 H.S. tournaments only, anything else is not allowed because it would give them an advantage over the other players in that same league. The reasoning behind it, is that by allowing players to play more than allotted they are gaining experience from their games, which in turn might create an inequality among the league. Qidong 03-06-2008, 11:24 AM Thanks for the info. It's a strange rule. It's like high school players are not allowed to take 1-on-1 private lessons in one of the 7 clubs here because they can possibly learn more from these ex Chinese or Indonesia national players than their high school coaches. LazyBuddy 03-06-2008, 12:01 PM If I remember correctly, there is a rule in the NCS/CSS/ Local leagues, etc that states that once the H.S. badmitnon season starts, the players are either allowed to play 2 H.S. tournaments only, anything else is not allowed because it would give them an advantage over the other players in that same league. This is indeed very weird. I don't see why ban player from lower end league (i.e. HS league) to play in higher level league (open tournament). I mean, if the other way around, it makes sense, as the games will be slaughter sessions, but if the lower level players want to gain experience in higher level play, why not? Isn't that good for the game in a long run? Now, do they need to count in the examples like Qidong mentioned? Say, anyone takes high level private lessons are banned? Or, say, anyone who has more than 2 decent rackets, higher level of strings, can afford change baddy shoes every 3 months all to be banned? Joseph 03-06-2008, 11:40 PM If I remember correctly, there is a rule in the NCS/CSS/ Local leagues, etc that states that once the H.S. badmitnon season starts, the players are either allowed to play 2 H.S. tournaments only, anything else is not allowed because it would give them an advantage over the other players in that same league. No no, that's not really correct there. The 2 H.S. tournament thing isn't really related to open tournaments. You can play open tournaments if you want, I don't think your coach knows what he's talking about. Go check out a tournament and you'll see a bunch of high school players. You won't be disqualified or whatnot. I don't know what school you go to, but schools usually tell their kids to play to gain experience playing tournaments. High schoolers also sign up in groups to even get discounts. It doesn't make any sense:rolleyes:. Does this mean HS players can't play in any facilities like Bintang, GGBC, or Smash city;)??? I saw HS badminton players in every tournament I went and I'm sure that u can enter any tournament if u wanted. |
