Racket Consultation

I'm not like a pro, but I'm decent in playing and I want to take it a step further by having my own racket.

I've only had classes at my school and I've been playing for 6 months straight being one of the top players in there. People say I'm defensive, but I can switch between both. I care more about performance than durability. Price wise I'm on a budget so I'll spend $100 max.

Can anyone think of a good racket for me?
Also, one of my friends said the Forza ti 2200(?) would be good for me. How good of a racket is it? I'm open to any suggestions.

so whose racquet have you been using all this time?
i have one question for you, which racquet did you prefer all this time you've been using other racquets?

I think we're using Yonex B-460s in the class, so pretty much that.

the ones you are using (B-460) are just regular racquets made with steel shaft and frame, if you have been playing with that racquet and like that kind of feel, you should stick with the oval shape head and a stiff flex racquet (since steel shaft racquets are stiff) and the racquets are heavy (100+ grams)

carbonex 8600 ti is a pretty cheap racquet, $85 in Canada
has medium flex and comes in 3U (85-90grams) or 2U (90-95 grams)


but generally you'll be looking at the stiffness of the racquet, the weight and whether you want oval or isometric head

Thanks deadman85! I'll keep that racket in mind. I saw one on Ebay for like $50 shipped I think.

silentheart, what rackets would you be selling? Forza ti 2200?

it sounds like you already have your heart on a forza ti 2200. why not just go to a store and try it out and if it feels good, then you should buy it. :)

Try going to http://www.ibuysports.com/, since you're going for your first non-metal racquet, something easy durable and good quality would be SotX Woven 8/8A (difference is colour). It's $100 bucks and includes shipping and stringing. Or if you want to stick with an oval head, go SotX winner kinsmen STB8080, it's only $70 bucks. You can also go to the equipment forums and check out DinkAlot's racquet review if you haven't.

Honestly though, since you've been using school racquets, anything would feel better and be an upgrade. The only problem I see with purchasing a SoTX from ibuysports.com is that they string the racquets at 25lbs which probably will be too high for you (considering school racquets probably have a tension of like 16 lbs or something...) but you can always email the owner and ask him to string the tension lower at around 20-23lbs

If you prefer oval racket, then cab30ms is the best deal out there, it has both performance and durability, and the price is as low as US$100 or around. ;)

yeah, i forget that cab30ms are around $100-110 in the states... those are good racquets, i have had two of them.
