KJ, PG and ZN are the first 3 names come right out of my head as the three of them are in their 30s already. Other possible players I can imagine would be TH, LHI, XXF, SSM, WCH and LD.

For double players I would say CTF/LWW? JE/ML? TG/CW? Maybe GL too?

will XXF retire, prolly not, she's still young.

LHI just came back to competing regularly, so again probably not.

hasn't WCH already said he would quit after the OG?

WCH already said he will retire at the end of 2008 after his yearly contract with BAM expires.

CTF/LWW is either end of 2008 or maximum till WC 2009. LWW said depends on CTF's decision.

Msia player maybes is WMC due to her knee injury although she's still young . She did say she wanted to tough it out till OG.

JE/ML already announced that they're retiring after OG 2008.
Others would be Zhang Ning, SSM
Taufik is still quite young at 27. If he doesnt win AE this year, he might want ot wait a year or two to win it & make it 4 major titles.

I'm not sure about PG and KJ though. I saw them at the EC2008 Teams, and both were having a great time. They are older than others, but they still enjoy the game thoroughly. So no, I guess they won't quit after OG2008. Maybe even a few more years?

Lin Dan quit? Also here, I don't think he'll quit. Much too young, and much too successful. Li Yongbo won't like it either. :p

Genesis

Lin Dan most likely won't quit, but he may be phased out in favour of younger players before the 2012 Olympics like how XXZ and Chen Hong has.

I cant see lin dan throwing in the towel just yet, peter gade and kenneth they seem to enjoy the game and well they can still be pretty threatening players too so i dont see them quitting either.

Yup, but if LD quitting at the highest point and everyone will remember him. It was sad to see XXZ and CH faded out silently. :(

Peter Gade actually mentioned in the interview of Singapore Open 2007, said Olympic would be a good way to end his career, but again, he might change his mind, since he is still in a pretty good shape, and the younger ones are still a while away to beat him

Zhang Jiewen will retire (of course). Don't know what Yang Wei will do, pair up with Tingting and let Gao Ling concentrate on XD, perhaps?

LD and Gade can't retire yet, the younger CHN and Danes haven't matched their ability. And LD is younger than all his major opponents.

LOL Lin Dan retiring is like saying to all the malaysian fans that LCW will be retiring! :p...i suspect Gao Ling has at least 2 years left or so...so probably count her out of the 2012 Olympics (she already has a set of medals to begin with LOL)...but i think Roslin Hashim and maybe Lee Tseun Seng/WCH, but nothing more than the usual lol..

This might have been XXF's last match, she already said she'll go back to Guangdong now and see if she keep on playing or not.

This year will certainly be the last for Peter Gade, he already said he wants the younger to take his place. Maybe after CPH.
I think Wang Chen will retire if not now, during the year i guess

Nothing more for ZN to prove...except if she wants AE title...I met ZN at WC05, not an air of arrogance and graciously took pictures with anyone, I remember it took me a long time to setup my camera and she would wait and that was being a defending WC...I am so glad she won. As for LYB picking her instead of ZL, if ZN is out, CHN would have 3 first timers playing WS in OLY held in her CHN's backyard, no experience and that would be a scary thought for LYB.

Wong Choong Han will not retire!
He will play in the German "Bundesliga" for EBT Berlin.
He will play both MS and MD.

So whoever wants to watch him playing should come to Germany.
He will be active the whole season from Sep. 2008 onwards.

The one person I hope so bad will not quit- is gao ling. IMO, she is still the best XD player in the world, nd I hope she can go on for at least another 2 years. I'll cry if i hear she is retiring. Shes just such an addition to the sport; fast, smart, skilful, AWESOME personality. I think the smart ones will try to retire at the top. ZN is a good example. No point proceed to get slauthered and retire (possible embarassment or record went bad in terms of head to head count). Yang Yang, Eric Cantona is a smart one.

This is my hypothesis: XXF wants to retire after the OG08 but LYB orders her to get silver so that she still has another big title not being fulfilled after getting all the major titles in last few years, therefore she has to stay on & LYB has an "assurance" on WS in the future 4 years.
Do you think LYB will answer this hypothesis?

Pretty good hypothesis! Just that it would be tough for LYB to convince XXF of that for a gold medal match, but you never know. Either case, I imagine LYB is very pleased with the outcome for the reason that you gave.

A conspiracy for this OG, to enable a conspiracy in the next OG!!

Anyone who saw WS final could see it was an open fight.

This "theory" also assumes LYB will still be in charge in 4 Years.

WCH might retire after 2008 season is over. Same goes to LWW CTF.

I'm not too sure about this. My Malaysian coach mentioned that the income from top flight badminton is pretty good in Malaysia. Many players will keep on playing as long as they can given that prospects after badminton are not so good.

One of the strategies I hear is to use the income to keep buying properties and renting them out.

Of course if they come from affluent families all bets are off.

What an awesome and long carier he had, play in four consecutive Olympics Games, already became #1 seeded XD in Atlanta 1996 (with Risyeu Rosalina), and still became #3 seeded XD in Beijing 2008 (with Vita Marissa). So sorry he finished it with only one bronze...

Retired players. Send them over here to Oz to coach us, we'll take em on board. We need help. At the moment our National coach is an X Danish national player so maybe he can encourage Peter Gade to bring his coaching abilities to Oz. Being a minority sport maybe this isn't as silly as it sounds!
