abedeng 03-05-2008, 06:59 PM Well, the dust have settled after a lot of top guns went down .....
CHN lost XXF and ZN, the All-England title is up for grabs. We will see if JYJ, ZL, LL and WYH can recover from the loss of their seniors.
INA lost potential winners in XD and MD, including their world champs. And all their WS squad.
KOR lost their MS sting, women are still holding on.
MAS fare the worst, left with our top MS, top WS, top WD and Uncles ..... all other MS and MD pairs were shown the exit, including defending All-England champs.
DEN is probably least affected, lost only Lundgaard/Eriksen, but the rest still pull through.
In the PAWS sense, I had a 6-4 win loss record after the 1st day, not too shabby ...... :) Could have been better had Judith Meulendijks not lost steam.
Louisa 03-05-2008, 07:33 PM What more can I say...signed in to find out that....what a disaster for us...only left LCW, WMC, WPT/CEH, Uncle LWW/CTF carrying MAS flag...
XXF, ZN, LHI, WCH, Roslin, PSH, LTS, Flandy/Vita, Jen/Lungaard, Kellogg/Emms out of the competition, too...
Especially my ZN...
Maximum 03-05-2008, 07:44 PM oh no.... i jus woke up to look at the result... why like that? this is disaster... my ZN is out??? woo woo~ how can i spend the rest of my time today knowing that my ZN is out??? woo~woo~
quite a number of top seeds went down... this is sad... :(
Maximum 03-05-2008, 07:54 PM hmmm.... ZN seems to lack of motivation after XXF's defeat... so sad... I was hoping that after XXF's defeat, no one can stop ZN from taking the title...

vching 03-05-2008, 08:08 PM my predictions :
The Badminton Blog - All England 2008 Round 2 Predictions (http://thebadmintonblog.blogspot.com/2008/03/all-england-2008-round-2-predictions.html)

What yr ZN, my ZN?! U guys joker la :p
That's why ZN is being torned apart!
To me the writing is already on the wall for ZN towards the last quarter of 2007. She has lost motivation and seems only interested in learning to be a good coach. May she achieve success as a coach. :)
abedeng 03-05-2008, 08:18 PM To be fair, the NSS and better tournament prizes have both helped in giving all the players extra motivation to do well, gaps between top and 2nd level shuttlers are reducing ...... especially against CHN except in WD.
Anyway, my pick for today:-
WS:
Yip Pui Yin vs Hwang Hye Youn - Yippie to take it based on her LCW-like abilities, Hwang is too tired
Wong Mew Choo vs Jiang Yanjiao - 50-50, WMC has the ability, but Jiang won on their last encounter. If WMC wins, great!!! But not good for my PAWS.
Zhu Lin vs Tine Rasmussen - 50-50, new leader for CHN WS squad must show her worth. Tine must emphasize that the CHN WS are not invincible.
Pi Hongyan vs Anna Rice - Pi has the appetite to eat Rice
Cheng SC vs Wang Chen - ex-WJC technique not as good
Wang Yihan vs Lu Lan - could be walkover or walk in the park, for Lu Lan
Jun Jae Youn vs Xu Huaiwen - could be close, Jun has advantage, she also has more fatigue
Yao Jie vs Yu Hirayama - both had marathon matches yesterday, I'll pick Yu on account of her youth.
MS:
Lin Dan vs Eric Pang - LD is happy that his nemesis is out of the way, what better way to celebrate than by thrashing Pang
Sho Sasaki vs Kenneth Jonassen - the old guy that doesn't age will put Sasaki in his place
Bao Chunlai vs Chen Yu - no reason for CHN to allow CY to win.
Lu Yi vs Joachim Persson - youthful Chinese will want to impress LYB
Shoji Sato vs Sony Dwi Kuncoro - Hey, it's a Sony
Premizlaw Wacha vs Chen Jin - CJ to progress with some struggle
Taufik Hidayat vs Nguyen Tien Minh - normally I would pick Taufik, but his pullout from charity event disappoints us all
Lee Chong Wei vs Tommy Sugiarto - Tommy gets a free badminton lesson
Louisa 03-05-2008, 08:19 PM That's why ZN is being torned apart!

Cheer-up you wake up tomorrow and u see a 100% success for MAS
X Ball 03-05-2008, 08:44 PM Kawan..I am really sad when i saw the results this morning..:crying::crying::(..It was so bad for Mas camp..
Yes sad for the players who are out but we still have LCW and the oldies, and WMC !;)
Jessica 03-05-2008, 08:45 PM Yes sad for the players who are out but we still have LCW and the oldies, and WMC !;)
Yup..Lets cheer for LCW,CTF/LWW and WMC...I really hope LCW to win the All England Champion..;)But i am still sad now..:(
badMania 03-05-2008, 09:06 PM It was not too bad for Team INA, but, Kido/Hendra and Flandy/Vita's losses in the first round were seriously a hard blow for the chance to win a title now :o:mad: Let's see if the other players have the mettle to go the distance now (esp Taufik Hidayat and Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir )
10:30am Lita Nurlita/Nitya Krishinda Maheswari vs Gao Ling/Zhao Tingting [5] -- bye bye for Lita/Nitya. Nevertheless, good experience gained in the 2 weeks European tour.
12:00pm Tommy Sugiarto vs Lee Chong Wei [2] -- likewise for young Tommy, gaining a valuable 3600 ranking pts after winning his first match in All-England's main draw! That will see his ranking on an upward trajectory to the top 50. Target will be top 25 for this year for Tommy! It will be a major shocker if Tommy were to topple LCW.
12:00pm Jo Novita/Greysia Polii vs Ha Jung Eun/Kim Min Jung -- a great result for Jo/Grace yesterday in their victory over the home pair, and they have a chance for another QF placement at a SS event.
12:20pm Simon Mollyhus/Anders Kristiansen vs Luluk Hadiyanto/Luluk Hadiyanto [8] -- another Danish opponent for Luluk/Alvent and I hope they can reach the QF, after Kido/Hendra's shocking loss. Of course, it will be a higher chance for them if Bach/Malaythong Khan were to repeat their shock victory over Choong/Lee :o
12:45pm Vita Marissa/Lilyana Natsir vs Chien Yu-Chin/Cheng Wen-Hsing [6] -- Vita/Butet have yet to convince me this year and with Vita's performance yesterday in the XD, I think Chien/Cheng will take this one again to extend their winning steaks over the INA pair.
1:05pm Tony Gunawan/Candra Wijaya [5] vs Lee Jae Jin/Hwang Ji Man -- expect a thrilling contest, with Tony/Candra having the advantage.
1:30pm Shoji Sato vs Sony Dwi Kuncoro [6] -- a tricky one for Sony, but, it should be manageable.
6:50pm Shuichi Sakamoto/Shintaro Ikeda vs Hendra A. Gunawan/Joko Riyadi -- Koo/Tan's shocking loss will mean that AG/Joko have a chance to qualify for the QF or even further. But, AG/Joko are not playing that well either
8:00pm Nguyen Tien-Minh vs Taufik Hidayat [8] -- Taufik needs to be focused if he were to beat the much improved Vietnamese player.
8:20pm Kumiko Ogura/Reiko Shiota [7] vs Rani Mundiasti/Endang Nursugianti -- another Japanese pair for Rani/Endang means the end of the road for them as always. Ogura/Shiota have beaten Rani/Endang in two previous Super Series this year (Malaysia and Korea), at the same stage :cool:
8:45pm Thomas Laybourn/Kamilla Rytter-Juhl vs Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir [2] -- another meeting between these 2 pairs. Nova/Butet won in rubber-sets the last time they meet in HK Open QF. It will be tight and exciting, with the Danish pair somewhat having a slight edge.
george@chongwei 03-05-2008, 09:36 PM i am now hoping that lee chong wei/ wong mew choo and choong tan fook/lee wan wah will win their game 2day...
after yesterday dissapointment..
i am damn sad now...:crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::cry ing::crying::crying:
george@chongwei 03-05-2008, 09:44 PM i hope 2day nguyen tien minh can spring a surprise for us..!
madbad 03-05-2008, 09:54 PM Not sure how to react after day 1. A little speechless I guess. But the games go on and new stars are born. A trend has become clear (not the obvious one)–European players are very much in contention, and that's good for our beloved game.
WS
So what happens without the bookends on the WS draw bracket? Will the next 2 highest seeds be able to survive? Not sure about ZL; I kinda fancy Tine's chances. I suspect LL will be given a free pass. Still lots of potential winners in the very competitive WS draw. My crystal ball tells me to expect more fireworks:
Pui.Yin.Yip. over H.Youn.Hwang
M.Choo.Wong. over Y.J.Jiang
T.Rasmussen over Lin.Zhu
Hongyan.Pi over Anna.Rice
Chen.Wang over Shao.C.Cheng
Lan.Lu over Yihan.Wang (suspicious circumstances alert)
Jae.Youn.Jun over Huaiwen.Xu (Jun could break down from fatigue)
Yu.Hirayama over Jie.Yao
MS
Kinda ho-hum. Didn't create as much buzz as the WS although a couple of fancied names were toppled–lHI, PSH and Kendrick come to mind. Don't see much in the way of upsets. The 2 JPN players Sato and Sasaki are in marvelous form.
Dan.Lin over Eric.Pang
K.Jonassen over Sho.Sasaki (just)
Chunlai.Bao over Yu.Chen (suspicious circumstances alert)
Yi.Lu over J.Persson
Sony.D.K over Shoji.Sato
Jin.Chen over P.Wacha (not confident with this prediction)
T.Hidayat over T.M.Nguyen (only if it's a 2 gamer)
C.Wei.Lee over T.Sugiarto
Birdwood 03-05-2008, 09:54 PM ZN is too old or wore out for the competitions since sometime last year. It's time for her to retire. This is all natural, good or great players come and go as change of guards and torch gets passed on. Not sure what happened to XXF, maybe her injury was still handicapping her?

In today's newpaper, LYB just said that XXF was fine and praised YIP....you can see the news that I just scanned on the thread" variety news....".
What an upset day....so strange....but I guess it is good for badminton on positive side....it is kind of scary to imagine Olympics now....no player will be safe....:(

Just read the article. XXF had been in trouble for sometimes and has not come back as she was before. We had so many new WS winners in SS since latter part of last year. It indeed very strange. I hope a few of them will be able to break the stalemate in the next few months and emerge as the serious contenders for OG 08 WS title
badadum 03-05-2008, 10:50 PM Who are you, what have done with Winsto_T, and why have you stolen his identity [joking] :D:D;)
After the amount of spanking from moderator, even the most hot-headed ppl has to change :)

Let's all try to focus on badminton, not personal issues. That's what we are here for :)
Happy to see your support for LD in R1. I hope he and LCW will meet again in the final.
skunklover 03-05-2008, 11:27 PM LCW and LD meeting in the final would be a good conclusion to MS, WS is up for grabs, WD.....ima guess one of the Chinese, but not sure which, MD i am going to bet FHF and partner

Zhu Lin vs Tine Rasmussen - 50-50, new leader for CHN WS squad must show her worth. Tine must emphasize that the CHN WS are not invincible.
...
..and tis should be a good one..We'll see if ZL has figured out a way to play Tine; and vice versa, if Tine is able to stay w/her game plan...ZL tends to do well after losing to certain players (e.g. her lost to Wang Chen in last yr's IO WS Final but eventually came out victorious over her in last yr's WC)..

I'm sure LYB has prepared her accordingly. By the same token, I'm sure Tine has a Plan B for that. Cat & mouse–should be great

i am damn sad now...:crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::cry ing::crying::crying:
Sure we are disappointed with Malaysian players performances on round 1, but try to be pessimistic as among those who failed only KKK/TBH is expected to go far anyway. If all of our remaining players get thru round 2 then the whole scenario looks pretty decent. However, if another 50% fail to advance then looks pretty bleak.
Just hope for a better tomorrow!
ctjcad 03-06-2008, 12:29 AM I'm sure LYB has prepared her accordingly. By the same token, I'm sure Tine has a Plan B for that. Cat & mouse–should be great

Krisna 03-06-2008, 02:10 AM I think Nguyen can't beat Taufik at this stage. It is Taufik's destiny to complete his badminton grand slam.
CLELY 03-06-2008, 02:12 AM With yesterday huge upsets, every match is so difficult to predict now. INA best hope through XD seems become slimmer when only Nova/Lilyana who still survive so far. Two Japanese MD pairs make headlines in this prestigious SS beside Hongkong WS player Yip Pui Yin, beat defending champion and reigning WChamp with straight sets at first round. Really interesting to follow those giant killers journey next...
jasonmarc 03-06-2008, 02:34 AM There is only one lady I like to see advancing -- her initials are W.M.C. (We Must Conquer). :)
Nice one....how about W for 我 (Wo) M for Menang and C for Champion

Kinda ho-hum. Didn't create as much buzz as the WS although a couple of fancied names were toppled–lHI, PSH and Kendrick come to mind. Don't see much in the way of upsets. The 2 JPN players Sato and Sasaki are in marvelous form.
I have felt for a long time (a year or so) that the WS is always more interesting and harder to predict than the men's section. Even when there're upsets galore, it is still the women who upstage the men in upsets.
For instance, look at the Chinese MS. We can almost clearly say LD > Bao > Chen Jin > Chen Yu > etc. with maybe a bit of adjustments. But for Chinese WS, it's much harder. Same for doubles, too, in this case.
Luking 03-06-2008, 03:04 AM Anyone who underestimates Tommy Sugiarto will be very very wrong ;)
Winston_T 03-06-2008, 03:31 AM I think Nguyen can't beat Taufik at this stage. It is Taufik's destiny to complete his badminton grand slam.
not yet!
we still have :
BWF Final SS
and Taufik can't compete in BWF Final SS 07, if LYB allowed his MS players to compete. wait until Dec 08 (if TH can qualify, consider he was only earn less pts from the first 2 SS)

madbad 03-06-2008, 04:34 AM Here we go. Nitya/Lita squaring off against GL/ZTT. A daunting task for the INA women
WC v CSC. The way upsets are being bandied like their out of fashion, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if this one goes down to the wire.
badMania 03-06-2008, 04:36 AM It will be David vs Goliath.
No chance for Lita/Nitya.
huangkwokhau 03-06-2008, 04:36 AM Tough to beat GL/ZTT...........I hope INA just enjoys it...........play the best...
badMania 03-06-2008, 04:39 AM Wang Chen will win me a PAW as she's quickly off to a 9-3 lead now :D
madbad 03-06-2008, 04:41 AM Wang Chen will win me a PAW as she's quickly off to a 9-3 lead now :D
How come we have the same PAW again?? ;);):D
badMania 03-06-2008, 04:42 AM Wang Chen is cruising away now...leading 11-5 at the break.
robin7 03-06-2008, 04:42 AM Oh dear, only 3 courts accommodate for 5X8=40 matches...:(
Assuming each match takes average 45mins(0.75hr), it will take 0.75X40/3=10 hrs to complete.
abedeng 03-06-2008, 04:42 AM How long can INA pair hold the Chinese?
madbad 03-06-2008, 04:43 AM Oh dear, only 3 courts accommodate for 5X8=40 matches...:(
Assuming each match takes average 45mins(0.75hr), it will take 0.75X40/3=10 hrs to complete.
Kinda suits my schedule. Have to sleep for a few hours then continue to follow later on.
badMania 03-06-2008, 04:43 AM Still even for the WDs at 7-7.
madbad 03-06-2008, 04:44 AM How long can INA pair hold the Chinese?
They're still up 8-7. Creditable so far from INA.
huangkwokhau 03-06-2008, 04:44 AM Not a bad start, at least INA WD will get 8 points...hehe
huangkwokhau 03-06-2008, 04:45 AM we need wang chen to save our paws
huangkwokhau 03-06-2008, 04:46 AM Gao Ling said" thats enough..lets finish it"..........
huangkwokhau 03-06-2008, 04:47 AM Oops....Cheng is trying to chase WC....as expected GL leads 11-8
badMania 03-06-2008, 04:47 AM The Chinese-Taipei gal gets her rythm...but still trails 14-16.
The INA pair hangs on to a creditable 8-11 scoreline at the break.
robin7 03-06-2008, 04:47 AM Looks like I should cheer for CSC. Hehe... Cheng SC, jiayou!
huangkwokhau 03-06-2008, 04:49 AM Come on Wang Chen............
badMania 03-06-2008, 04:50 AM Wang Chen takes the first set 21-17.
huangkwokhau 03-06-2008, 04:50 AM Good...Wang Chen bags 1st set
madbad 03-06-2008, 04:51 AM WC at game point 20-17 and wins 21-17. Too close for comfort for one of my "safety" PAWs :cool:
CHN 14-12. The INA girls are still hanging around :)
robin7 03-06-2008, 04:51 AM WC should win this one.
badMania 03-06-2008, 04:52 AM The INA pair refuses to bow down as they level it at 14-14, despite trailing 4 pts just now.
samuel882 03-06-2008, 04:52 AM CSC will be back with her power game.........
robin7 03-06-2008, 04:52 AM INA levels it at 14-all...
madbad 03-06-2008, 04:54 AM CHN spurts ahead 18-14
WC 4-1 CSC
abedeng 03-06-2008, 04:54 AM This is very creditable, INA pair giving good challenge.
But of course, now is the time for CHN to pull away ......
badMania 03-06-2008, 04:54 AM But China gals up their tempo again as they lead 18-14, before the INA gals bag one back.
huangkwokhau 03-06-2008, 04:55 AM Just got SMS from Lius regarding Kido/Hendra's match...he mentioned the pair played "below form"..no jet leg...no injury...simply lost to better japanese pairs....
samuel882 03-06-2008, 04:55 AM come on CSC ! Killed all those PAW against u :p
madbad 03-06-2008, 04:55 AM Here comes BCL v CY. Is the result predetermined already?:cool:
