3. MD - World rank no 2 & 3 out and most of Malaysian pairs out.
Day 3 matches not to miss:
WS - Zhu Lin vs Tine (I support Tine)

Actually, when you look at it, there is only on upset in the Malaysian camp -- KKK-TBH. I did not think the ones now out had a good chance of progressing anyway.
All the ones I am barracking for are still there -- LCW, CTF-LWW, and WMC. I am still happy.;):)

This is making OG even harder to predict with so many upset in the first round.

OG will be an interesting one this year...

ah, there's still time to sort everything out before the OG.
though the pressure there will be enormous, it really depends on who is able to cope with it.

ermmm...Koo/Tan lost to a japanese doubles,ikeda/sakamoto 18-21,19-21..is the most suprising news for me..
Dreamzz
03-06-2008, 03:03 AM
actually XXF and ZN both losing was more surprising.
they are way more consistent than KKK/TBH.
not to mention MK/HS, now that was a shocker, especially the 2nd game.

N so does,kido/hendra lost to matsuda, ohtsuka 19-21,9-21...darn..looks like 2008 is the beginning of the japan's badminton ressurection.

Koo/Tan has lost to the Sakamoto/Ikeda before, quite recently and in KL as well. Zhang and Xie's recent records are nothing to shout about. So does Koo/Tan's.
To me the most surprising upsets are Kido/Setiawan (who reputedly does not lose to opponents in the lower echelons of the rankings) and Lee Hyun Il (who seems invincible at the moment).

or maybe the english team will come out n become the biggest winner in this year's AE?

I was most suprise of LHI and XXF lost.
I think most of the people including myself doubt about KKK/TBH judging from their current forms even before the game start, so it is an upset, but suprise? Nope.

I hope CY / FHF can win the title.
unfortunately, last year they lost to KKK / TBH in the final match.
CHN almost clean sweep all 5 titles

Agreed. It should be more appropriate to say that those are fallen seeds.

Kindra has been consistent since winning the WC last year. A first round straight-set loss is indeed a shocking ones. On the other hand, LHI has reached 3 back-to-back finals, (1 runner-up and 2 titles), a loss to a top 10 player from CHN is not really surprising though.

Yup & Yup, very, very interesting, esp MD and WS.
....
*now which pairs left can match CY/FHF??
Lars/Jonas just beat Fu/Cai in MO 2008. CTF/LWW beat Fu/Cai in WC 2007.
And the Japanese pairs are dangerous now, having beaten no 2 & no 3 seeds, their confidence will ride high.

George, your hero & his gf is still in mah. Our MD, though sad, not really a great surprise.
XXF, Kido/Setiawan's lost was more of a surprise

What can I say, the Great Wall of China has crumbled. Things have not been going well for woman single this year.
The woman champion is open for everyone at the moment. If Tine did not get knocked out before final, I think she might win although I do prefer Jae Youn or veteran Wang Chen to win it.

2008 is a transition year for the china women team but bad timing, 2008 also the beijing OG year.

Well...China is officially out of contention for the MD title :D
INA still has that unstable pair of Luluk/Alvent. If they can somewhat beat Choong/Lee today, they might be the one smiling at the end. Let's see what happen today first....

I wont bank my money on that either. CTF/LWW is also inconsistent, wont know when they will "switch off" mentally. However, Luluk/Alvent is unstable too. So i guess which is more "stable" will win the next match :p

Pity Zhou Mi and Yippy are out. They've been getting a fair amount of coverage on TV.
If Albertus get to the semifinal, I will be shocked indeed. It's really a pity that he hasn't had a doubles player that matches him quality to pair up with.

A few months ago..CHN, INA, MAS, and DEN were really dominating our baddy world, we've thought that others may not be serious threat for those BIG 4..but now it turns to be difficult to determine Who's win and lose becoz KOR, JAP and TPE are really dangerous dark horses nowadays..not to forget also POL..in many cases, I found JAP, TPE, and especially KOR are threatening BIG 4 seeded players' domination..so I wouldn't be surprised If one of those 3 can do some more upsets in OG 2008, or even achieve something..What a marvelous badminton world..hard to predict :eek::p

japan has really quietly sneaked up on the top players. they are the underdog and they are doing really really well. i am surprised, but pleasantly. nice to have more contenders to the titles. :) korea and taipei too. i think 2008 will be a very interesting year. :D

Out of the line up, the HK pair will be most unexpected to win AE. Then there's the Japanese as 2nd most unlikely.
Msia uncles, Indonesia semi-veterans, Denmark 3/4 veteran, Korean youngsters are the usual suspects.
Btw, looking at Othsuka/Masuda, why do they seem like run out of steam in the middle of tourney - losing at QF or Semi when at the beginning they were all fired up - happened in French Open, either China or HK Open.
They're not that old...
Same with Sakamoto/Ikeda, but could be different reason for the younger pair, but this AE could be their turning point.

Interesting..major upsets happen in AE,but not often in SS.hmm, this must have to do with sort of pyschology...
