Match btw HHY and WMC will be interesting. Both i think is the fittest WS on the circuit. Huang is younger and stronger, Wong has more experience.

Here is my prediction for QF today:
MS:
Lin Dan vs Kenneth Jonassen ... Lin Dan has edge, but Kenneth has shown good performance so far
Bao Chunlai vs Joachim Persson... Quite surprise that Joachim reach QF, even he got the advantage from Gade's withdrawn. Bao will go to Semi Final
Sony DK vs Wacha/Chen Jin.... Sony DK will go to SF if meet Wacha, but if he meet Chen Jin, he will meet difficulties since last meet he defeated.
Taufik vs Lee Chong Wei......The most awaited and interesting match so far, TH performance still make me worries, mainly in his stamina since he played so close today with Vietnam's MS. Lee slightly edge to win this battle.
WS:
Quite happy with the result so far. Only 1 Chinese WS in Quarter Final. I predict no Chinese in Semi Final.
Hwang Hye Young vs Wong Mew Choo... WMC always face difficulties when meet HHY, and today as well. I predict HHY will go to SF
Tine Rasmussen vs Pi Hongyan... Tine has shown good performance recently, but Pi Hongyan determination will make this match will be tight. I predict Tine will go through
Wang Chen vs Lu Lan... I really hope Wang Chen in the best performance and beat Lu Lan. If it is happen, this AE will be the worst result for Chinese WS squad in 20 years without no Chinese WS players in SF.
Yu Hirayama vs Xu Huaiwen... Xu Huaiwen has more experience and good skills to beat Yu.

This is the most interesting SS for the longest time I can remember.
Lan Lu is the only Chinese representative left in the WS event. I can't quite recall when was the last time I see this many different flags flying in a SS WS QF. From 8 different countries of China, Malaysia, Korea, Japan, France, Denmark, Hong Kong and German.:eek::eek:
While in MD, Japan(:eek::eek::eek:) has become the most dominate force along with Korea.
And not to mention TH will take on LCW tomorrow.:eek::eek::eek::eek: But I will bet on LCW this time.

MD:
With no 3 formidable pairs from INA,CHN, and MAS, the big opportunities for another pairs to grab the titles.
Nyoto/Wiratama vs Lee Jae Jin/Hwang Jin Man .......Good result for Nyoto/Wiratama to reach QF and beat the World No.1. I think today is the end of the road for them.
Ikeda/Sakamoto vs Paaske/Rasmussen... With the best performance, I think the Japanese will beat the old crack.
Alvent/Luluk vs CTF/LWW... another meet for two experience pairs. If Alvent/Luluk may increase their fitness and reduce their nerve, they slightly edge to go to SF.
LDY/JJS vs Masuda/Ohtsuka....Another good performance from Japanese pair. Korean pair don't want to give a chance to Japanese pair to win this battle.
WD:
Chinese pairs still dominate in this sectors.
Wei Yili/Zhang Yawen vs Jo Novita/Polii....Jo/Greysia has shown good performance when beat home fave players, but this is another end for them.
Du Jing/Yu Yang vs Ogura/Shiota..... Du Jing/Yu Yang is slightly edge, but the determination of cuties probably will beat them.
Gao Ling/ZTT vs Lee/Lee.... Meet of 2 experience pairs. CHN pair has good record so far with KOR pair.
Cheng/Shien vs Yang Wei/Zhang Ziewen.... Another meet, another win. Nothing surprise here, and CHN pair will continue the journey.
XD:
Gao Ling/Zheng Bo vs LYD/LJH.... Another surprise from Korean pair, and they have big opportunity to grab the title
XXB/ZY vs Anthony Clark/Donna Kellog.... Fave home crowde will win this battle.
Nathan/Gail Emms vs Blair/Bankier... Good result for Blair/Bankier by beat Flandy/Vita in the first round. Anyway, more experience will proved.
He Hanbin/Yu Yang vs Nova/Lilyana.... After through from the barrier, Nova/Butet will feel more comfortable and win this match, but thigt.

Today is the day where conceivably all Malaysians could lose, or all Malaysians could win. Probably somewhere in between.
Being the one with the least pressure, I guess the uncles have a higher chance. LCW also looks steady from what I have seen so far, but Taufik is unpredictable. WMC has her work cut out for her.

In the WS, eight nations are represented in the QF. Though the players from France and Germany originated from China.

Isn't that good for the sport? WS is no longer a nobody-care event. And also, out of the 8 QF players, only 4 are current or former Chinese players.

I believe Wong is slightly fitter, but Hwang has better technique. But since Hwang is pretty fit herself, this is where Wong will find difficulty ..... past records favour Hwang.

Watching the first 2 days of tournament inside the court, i can say that this is the most exciting tournament ever! haha. got back from watching the second round, i was sure my heart beat didnt go the same way like before. watching taufik played with Nguyen, i really tot nguyen would win. he played brilliantly. and i was pretty sure taufik was a bit frustrated when nguyen led 19-16 at the third set. if only nguyen didnt lose focus, he can win over taufik. i watched the game beside shoji sato and he himself seemed shocked to see nguyen played. Ikeda/Sakamoto played brilliantly as well, really exciting match to watch. And yeah, not to forget, the russia WD, Ananina/Russikh. they were quite good against Du jing/ Yu yang. and Russikh seemed so young! way to go for this pair. since Russia is kinda big name in women tennis, they can be the same in women badminton right.
for tomorow's QF, i cant predict very well. Im rooting for malaysian player, but i doubt if Mew Choo can win. watching her played against Yanjiao, (heart attack sum more) and compare to the way HHY played earlier, i dunno, its hard for Mew Choo to win. But with her determination, anything can happen. All i can say is HHY have very good skills and speed. and mew choo looked a bit slow and 'blur' jus now, not like the way she played in China Open 07. But, anything can happen. Malaysia BOLEH!
For LCW, i think he can win. but its gonna be hard since TH really determine to win this tourney. But i like the way LCW play now, full of confidence (maybe because earlier he jus met with normal players).
For CTF/LWW, haha.. the uncles... they can win, if they stop making the notoriously famous unforced errors. Whatever happen, im gonna be there tomorrow, supporting them, all-out.
All in all, i was really dissapointed with 1st round results esp KKK/TBH and flandy/vita. for second round, i was shocked about CY/FHF loss but the hongkong's desrved it. they played well. I think england can make it for the mixed doubles and tine rasmussen is fired up to win this AE... and yeah, go JAPAN ! It would be interesting to see a Japan-Japan final this year ;)
Cant wait to watch the QF tomorrow..may all the luck in this world goes to the malaysian camp

Since the matches are during my sleep hrs, I don't think I can follow the livescores. Hope that the INA players are victorious when I wake up tomorrow :o
MEN'S SINGLES
Sony Dwi Kuncoro [6] vs Chen Jin [4] -- as expected, these 2 will meet. Unless Sony is on a good form, he will be massacred again by Chen Jin.
Taufik Hidayat [8] vs Lee Chong Wei [2] -- MATCH OF THE DAY. This will be the big one! It's now or never for Taufik. However, Lee Chong Wei is also on a roll. I predict Lee to take it in 3-sets.
MEN'S DOUBLES
Luluk Hadiyanto/Alvent Yulianto [8] vs Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah [4] -- Luluk/Alvent have won 2 relatively easy games so far. The tough one will be today's encounter. Their form this year gives them a slight (only just) edge.
WOMEN'S DOUBLES
Wei Yili/Zhang Yawen [1] vs Jo Novita/Greysia Polii -- Jo/Grace have done well these 2 weeks, reaching the QFs. However, their adventure will stop here.
MIXED DOUBLES
He Hanbin/Yu Yang [5] vs Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir [2] -- Nova/Butet managed to beat their nemesis yesterday. They will face a rematch of last year's QF where they were beaten by He/Yu. He Hanbin will be the weak-link. I hope Nova/Butet can triumph here!

It's good Chn WS lost this time so they can realize there are problems. There are still time for them to revamp the program for OG 08, and they still have many good players and will sure come back stronger.

They need to. It used to be that it would be shocking if CHN women lost before the semi's but now they are showing a lack of consistency and their opponents are gearing up. I think after about a decade of dominance the level of play that CHN used to hold has become the standard and so they need to really pick it up again or face falling into the crowd.

George, u might be able to understand Mandarin commentators, I don't. Therefore I'm being wise by spending no more than GBP 4.06 for the whole competition coverage, plus reruns until end March.
And with a 4 Mbps office line all for myself, it's practically as good as TV.

is it bcoz of too many strong player in a same country?
for CHN, their women singles all very good but now not so..

It's a good thought. Definitely a possibility. When Chn has so many good WS players, they started to leave and play for other countries too. What puzzles me the most is the fact the good players in other countries are all singular. WC in HK, WMC in Mas, Tine in Den, and Xu in Ger, but yet most of them were able to beat multiple Chn WS players in a succession. More often than ever, Chn WS players managed to succumb to some less known players. This is the second time XXF lost in the first round since the second half of last year, and ZN is only ruining her reputation by playing. In my opinion, if LYB does not bring Chn players back on top, he could be seen as THE problem and liable to lose his job as head coach after OG 08.

The 5:30pm start time (UK) is perfect for me. That translates into 9:30 am on the North American west coast.
I'm pretty excited about the WS QFs, seeing some new faces and the absence of many familiar ones, notably the CHN contingent. I'm sure each of the 8 players, each representing a different flag, must really fancy their chances now. My calls:
Hwang over WMC
Tine over Pi
Lu Lan over Wang Chen
Xu over Hirayama
I think the MS QFs will be quite predictable.
LD over KJ
BCL over Persson
CJ over Sony
LCW over Taufik
In MD, there are only three seeds left, all in the bottom half. I call:
Lee/Hwang over Njoto/Wiratama
JR/LP over Ikeda/Sakamoto
CTF/LWW over Alvent/Luluk
LYD/JJS over Masuda/Ohtsuka
WD remains the stronghold of the CHN army. Will be hard to stop them.
Zhang/Wei over Greysia/Jo
Du/Yu over JPN Cuties
Lee/Lee over GL/ZTT
Yang/Zhang over Cheng/Chien
Wide open in XD. In fact, the remaining CHN pairs could conceivably be knocked out.
ZB/GL over LYD/LHJ
Clark/Kellog over Xie/Zhang
Emms/Robertson over Blair/Bankier
Nova/Butet over He/Yu

is it bcoz of too many strong player in a same country?
for CHN, their women singles all very good but now not so..
for MAS, their men doubles also used to b vry good but now not so..
is it a factor tat too many strong players in a same team will drop ur lv down?
That's a very interesting observation.
For CHN, it's possibly the SS draw format that does the greatest damage.
Before SS, the top seeds get protected from playing a strong player until the QF.Because CHN MS and WS have at least 3 top players, they are able to form a 'relay team' with coach guidance to win a title. The non-CHN opponent not only have no relay team support but also have to stop their opponent from progressing. So usually the non-CHN player has to put in at least 50% more effort to win a title.
With the SS, top players have to 'get dirty ' from R1 and get used to meeting strong opponents all the way. That's like asking someone who used to win a 200m race to win a 800m.And the chance for CHN to form 'relay teams' is probably down to 30% compared to 100% before. So CHN's having a hard time. What makes it worse is non-CHN players have improved dramatically but I would say the SS draw format is the quicksand for CHN.
With MAS MD, it seems like player anxiety's unintentionally created when they have to compete for SS opportunities and those that missed out are regarded more like sparring partners.
That's like the Spore system: All trained up and nowhere to compete because players gotta reach 'a certain standard' otherwise will be wasting money.Problem is, in sports , bleeding must occur before beaming is possible.
The nice part about the MAS problem is that it's internal so they can fix it easily. The coaches need to listen and know the players wish list and their opinions on how they can do better.MAS MDs are talented, motivated and not afraid of hard work. They need the freedom to experiment ,even if it means losing, because that's the richest way to learn to win, when they can afford it.And right now, can't they still afford it?
For CHN, their problem is external: They can't change the SS draw format and they can't stop non-CHN players from improving. Not much they can do about that except wish for luck.

There are no seeded men's doubles in the top half. Even my favourite Tony and Candra are out:(
Hey, no WD on show court tonight. Aargh. Really wanted to see our favourite Japanese pair.:(
I am so gutted about Tony and Candra, I missed seeing them last year and have been so excited about seeing them since I booked my tickets about 9 months ago. I am going up today but am going to miss them again. I just want to cry! :crying:
I am mainly going to see the MD as that is my favourite even and almost all the top players have gone out.:crying::crying::crying:
I have been so excited about going for weeks, but now I am just gutted! :(

I guess I am just destined never to see Tony and Candra.

OK, if Astro has no live coverage, I will go back to office and see from planetbadmintontv. But last night after midnight they must have had some kind of outage or heavy traffic volume
If I'm not mistaken they are not covering QF live due to contracts rights with Sky Sports, they wrote sthing like that on their website.
i wish rtm shows live teh match between LCW and TH. alas, no luck there. will have to wait for uploaded videos of the match later then. like badmania, i hope to wake up tomorrow to hear good news. :D:D:D

Imagine, China's sporting name is going down the tubes nearing the Beijing Olympics! The big shots are trying to make good all the bad images - the atmosphere, the bad habits like spitting in the public, the overcrowding, the traffic congestions, etc, and here their national badminton head is doing the reverse. :(

Our rivalry began somewhere in the 50s... ;) Historically, INA prevailed more often in the Thomas Cup, Uber Cup, All England, World Championship, Olympics, Asian Games, SEA Games... but since the advent of the Super Series, MAS are doing better than INA in the various Super Series... :o :o :o
LCW, WMC, KKK-TBH have collected many Super Series titles... From INA, ...Lili-Vita, Flandy-Vita, Lili-Nova, Kido-Hendra didn't collect as many titles... :o :o :o
should say the traditional battle of the rival..

First time to make prediction:rolleyes:
Prediction for QF :
MS:
Lin Dan vs Kenneth Jonassen ... Kenneth is in good form and if he calm down a bit, he can bt Super Dan in 3 sets.
Bao Chunlai vs Joachim Persson... Bao should have no problem.
Sony DK vs Chen Jin.... Close match. Sony was defeated last time and Chen is more eager to win the match
Taufik vs Lee Chong Wei...... Olympic champion cannot stop the super lee
WS:
Hwang Hye Young vs Wong Mew Choo... Close match. But WMC can handle match points and deuce better.
Tine Rasmussen vs Pi Hongyan... Tine is unstoppable, but I believe in lady Pi to win in 3 sets
Wang Chen vs Lu Lan... Lu Lan will show the world that she deserves world no.3. This is her chance to tell LYB she is reliable. Will mental problem affect her? LL win in 3 sets
Yu Hirayama vs Xu Huaiwen... Bt Zhou mi and JJY in a row, Xu Huaiwen is in top form.

It's not the channels not broadcasting QF, it's the players like SopCast for GD Sports' streaming is not working  The matches today are all very good ones, don't want to miss.
..i've re-edited my post and listed a couple more webcast programs for anyone to download..The channels might not be available or might not be able to broadcast at the same time; some even have bad connection because they rely on peer-to-peer connections..Personally, i've used all of them before and found either TVUPlayer, TVAnts and PPLive to be quite good/dependable..;)

My friend (and whoever else asking)
Try PPMate or TVAnts :
http://livetv.ru/en/chanelinfo/4/
If TVants, try the 50% one. I havent tried PPMate yet.
Ctjcad, CCTV5 isnt showing QF. Shanghai Sports is showing delayed, but that wouldnt be as exciting, he he.
Thanks for the link. My TVAnts expired so I need to reinstall it (but it is not showing anyway). ppMate is not working off the link, may need to install the program first too. What happened to your green button on the left? It stays off.

Cracks in the China Wall
THREE REVERSES on the third day of the All England Championships left the so-far invincible Chinese shaking their heads in disbelief. There is a feeling in the badminton world that, at long last, the Chinese domination of the game is waning.
The signs were evident on March 5, when a feisty youngster from Hong Kong, Yip Pui Yin, dumped three-time All England champion Xie Xingfang in the first round of the women's singles. Olympic champion and second seed Zhang Ning followed her with a loss to Yao Jie of France. There were two more losses in the doubles, and suddenly it looked as if China's days atop the badminton totem pole were numbered.
If the Chinese thought the first day was an aberration, they were in for further surprises. A young left-hander from Denmark, Joachim Persson, started the nightmare for them on Thursday, beating Lu Yi in straight games. Immediately after came the hammer blow, Tine Rasmussen, also of Denmark, whipped the world champion, Zhu Lin, with a measure of ease.
More than the fact of the defeat, it was the manner of it - Rasmussen looked comfortable right through, while Zhu looked woebegone, shaking her head in desperation and playing waywardly on the pressure points.
But while Rasmussen has of late had success against the Chinese, it was the defeat of the men's doubles pair, Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng, to an unheralded pair from Hong Kong that was too bitter to swallow. The Chinese coaches, for once, looked angst-ridden, as if a sudden chill had fallen on them. Nobody in the badminton circuit could fail to read what the day meant for them - with the all-important Olympics on home turf coming up, their minds would have more questions than answers.
Cai Yun, the doubles player, dismissed the loss as a consequence of the slow shuttles in the big hall, which gave their lesser opponents an edge. "'We've beaten them many times before," he said. But the court conditions favoured them today." After a pause, he added: "'May be they've become better. They're catching up with us."
The overwhelming feeling among everybody is that it is the Olympics that is hurting the Chinese. With a vice-like grip on the game over the last decade, the Chinese are not used to seeing other teams ride roughshod over them. There have been upsets earlier, but not in the early rounds. But with the host team expecting to win gold in every event in badminton, it is possible that the pressure is building up at every tournament.
Although the players themselves dismiss these questions, this is perhaps the biggest reason for the chinks that have developed in their armour. Li Zhifeng, coach in charge of women's singles, admitted as much. Zhifeng had a grim look about him after Zhu Lin's loss. "'There's a little pressure on us with the Olympics coming up," he said. ''It was a bit of a surprise. The other players are catching up. This must be one of our worst results in recent times. But we're not finished yet."
While the Chinese have had competition in the men's singles and doubles, the other events have been their personal fiefdom. At the All England, for instance, the only interruption to their reign in the women's singles since 1997 has been Camilla Martin of Denmark, who won in 2002. The women's doubles goes back to 1996; the only break being in 1999 when a Korean pair upset them.
Of late, however, teams such as Indonesia, Korea, Japan and Malaysia have ramped up their doubles. Europe has had a tradition of having good doubles teams. The combined assault has begun to tell.
