View Full Version : Prestige Level
Arsene Lupin 03-09-2008, 07:39 AM Here's a list of tournaments that are regarded as the most prestigious tournaments in badminton. Rank them with the no.1 being the most prestigious, and the 5th as the least. Thomas Cup, Sudirman Cup, Olympics, All England, World Championship My rankings would be: 1. Thomas Cup 2. Olympics 3. All England 4. Sudirman Cup 5. World Championships
drifit 03-09-2008, 08:29 AM dont we covered this before?
at the end, no conclusion.........
drifit 03-09-2008, 08:30 AM however, welcome to BC..............:)
newcomers like to open threads............:D:D:D
Arsene Lupin 03-10-2008, 12:32 AM So where's the original thread?
jhirata 03-10-2008, 01:18 AM well, there's a *similar* thread:
http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24926
Arsene Lupin 03-10-2008, 02:03 AM Well it's nowhere similar.
jhirata 03-10-2008, 02:33 AM Well it's nowhere similar.
Really ? alright then ........................................ .........................
Anyway, "at the end, no conclusion........." - drifit
Each person is going to have a different opinion on the list of the 'most prestigious tournaments'. If you wanted to figure out which tournament is the most prestigious one, then you should have added a poll to this thread. Easier than reading through everyone's opinions and ranking them..
But still, what's going to happen if we find out which tournament is the 'most prestigious tournament' ?
No more arguments..
Here are my opinions:
1) All England
2) Thomas / Uber Cup
3) Olympics
4) World Championships
5) Sudirman Cup

aikes... place me on the table again.......:D:D:D
what criteria now??
tournament for individual or to team or both?
Thomas/Uber = team, Sudirman Cup = team
Olympics = individual & team
for team, i can be lost my game but with jhirata winning, my team is the champion.........:p
prestigious tournament, shall we look into history and prize money?
let us keep on this never ending story......;)
jhirata 03-10-2008, 02:55 AM This is getting confusing.
Smichz 03-10-2008, 03:20 AM From the answers..i can see that the judgements r made according to personal favor..
Well..for me,Olympic is in the 1st place..Olympic title is every player's dream..
Arsene Lupin 03-10-2008, 03:33 AM Let's say you're a player, which title would you want the most? Is it winning the Thomas Cup for your country, or an olympic gold medal?
jhirata 03-10-2008, 03:40 AM Winning an Olympic Gold Medal. For my country. haha..
DivingBirdie 03-10-2008, 05:35 AM Olympics
TC+AE+WC
TC, AE have their respective special historical significance, to every different country but personally i'll consider them below olympics. Most of you might regard WC as below TC, AE but i rank them the same because of the very title name of WC.
drifit 03-10-2008, 11:06 AM for myself?
just a small dream, be like Gao Ling. that is all..........;)
coolhandluke 03-10-2008, 11:16 AM for myself? just a small dream, be like Gao Ling. What? You wanna be pretty and wear skirts? :p
coolhandluke 03-10-2008, 11:25 AM For individual events:
1. All England Open (much like the Wimbledon for tennis)
2. World Championships
For team events:
1. Olympics (your legacy is pretty much taken care of if you snag one of the medals -- like the Oscar award)
2. Thomas Cup
3. Sudirman Cup
drifit 03-10-2008, 11:29 AM What? You wanna be pretty and wear skirts? :p
i dont mind if i can achieve what she achieved.............:p
coolhandluke 03-10-2008, 11:33 AM Gao Ling is a legend. I know what you mean. Just messing with you. ;)

thanks for messing me up, my brain keeps deteriorating everyday............:D
we just keep posting here, cause blah blah blah.... no conclusion :D:D:D
unless admin or mods change this to a poll. not even BWF categorize any tournaments base on prestigiousness. or we can just set the standard base on the points given in each tournament? BWF now is making the super series more like ATP or WTA in tennis. as for Grand Slam in tennis, BWF, if smart, will do something too.
