One of the tour agencies here, in associaltion with the Singapore Sports Council, which provides the games tickets, is offering a 5D/4N travel package for SIN$3,460,

The package includes the following:

* 4 nights accommodation in 4-star Millennium Totel (Twin sharing)
* Daily Breakfast
* Return airfare on SQ/CA.
* Return Airport/Hotel transfer
* Transport to and from games venue and hotel for 5 days
* Half day Beijing tour to the Great Wall (Juyongguan)
* Entry tickets to selected games:
(8-12 Aug for Badminton and Gymnatics)
* Team Singapore Cheer Kit

In view of the difficulty in getting accommodation and games (badminton) tickets, even if available, they will probably be at a high price, I am very tempted to take up the offer.

What do you think? :):)

i'd inquire carefully exactly which games you're eligible to watch. or is it always going to be games involving SIN players since it's a SIN tour company organising it?

Tickets are for admission to Badminton mainly but limited to within the 5 days. So the matches are for prelims up to QF stage at most.

At this stage, it is unlikely that BC members are able to arrange something that can accommodate our needs, now that reports of prices have spiralled.

Even for the package tour, I understand that only a limited number of seats is available and I'm sure will be completely taken up very soon. :(

So I have to make a decision very soon. Unfortunately the package does not include a ticket to the opening ceremony on 8th Aug!

i personally prefer the QF and the SF to the F in any case. they are normally more exciting and you get a much greater variety of games to watch.

one word of caution, because it's likely to be in a new stadium, you better check out all the seating arrangements and where your tickets will allow you to sit, i don't know what the layout is going to be like, but you don't want to find yourself miles away from the action, tucked up near the toilets and have a seat right below a massive pole or something.

..yes, i can understand that.
..Loh, excluding the Semis and Finals tickets, i can't for sure say that's not a bad deal; in part because i haven't checked with any local travel agents myself.:p
But considering the astronomical number, $8888:eek::p, of a tour package (maybe a fully loaded one) mentioned in an Indonesian website article a few weeks ago (which Hau-ge brought it up), i would seriously consider that..I'm sure you can get a cheaper deal, say, if you stay at a 3 star hotel instead, but i have a feeling you would prefer to stay at a 4 star or even higher accommodation.;)
Another thing is, if you want to go and watch other athletic events, that cost would go up as well...

..from what i've calculated, from the official OG ticketing website, the total cost for a week long/full attendance (from Qualifying round to Finals), for badminton ONLY, will come out to abt US$600+..Of course, one could always pick & choose which day to attend....
Also, if one goes to the official OG website, they've indicated what other events have sold out their tickets.
nah, those opening ceremony tickets are expensive!

..personally, i would definitely skip watching the Opening ceremony live..:p

..yeah, better check which seating area they're offering, too. If not mistaken, i saw 2 types of seating being offered @ the OG ticketing site.
I've also chatted with a couple of people & they said the same thing. They would pick & choose which day/event to watch, depending if their fave/national player(s) is/are playing. In other words, they will not order a week-long pass, but rather purchase the tickets, on the same day, directly at the ticketing box office (with a risk that no tickets will be available). If none of their players are competing, then they won't buy the ticket.

*Btw, not sure if kwun or mods should move this thread to the 2008 Olympics sub-forum?..

No it is not sponsored by the SSC but they have an allocation of the tickets from the Olympics Organising Committee I suppose, so that we will not have to buy them at cut-throat prices as ordinary members of the public.

Yes indeed the Cheer Kit is for us to use in cheering for Singapore athletes in action. So, if I'm there I'll make full use of it! :D

Having look closely, this is a bit funny. Does that mean the SSC predicted that S'pore players will only make it to the 1st and 2nd round. :p
What happened if they make it to quarter/semis/final? No supporters left to support them?? :D

I've been experiencing a tug-of-war with the tour company.

First they told me that the last slot of the twin-sharing package was already booked by someone. Then the travel agent was on leave and did not bother to return my call when she returned to the office on Monday.

I called her not too long ago and she told me that the slot is still available as the previous client chose only to buy the air tickets. Now I need to find a partner to share the room with me, otherwise it will cost much more than the package deal of S$3,468, inclusive of tax. And the deadline is this Friday, May 28.

Anybody interested to join me in this special "once-in-a life-time" event (at least for me) to watch badminton particularly at the Beijing Olympics and to savour the atmosphere of the entire Games? Please let me know early before the deadline. :)

That package is a waste of time if you're serious about just going there to support badminton. It's for patriotic Sporeans who wants to show support and are not particular about which sport because you could be given badminton, TT and some other sports. And if Kendrick L should proceed to QF, you will still have to be back in Spore cos it's for 5 days only.
Anyway, I just got an SQ ticket and hope that my CHN contact will deliver on what's promised of the tournament tickets. If not, I'll just donate S$75 to SQ as cancellation fee.

I'm very sad. :(

Never experienced the Olympics before.
Now that it's going to be held nearer home,
I thought I could buy this tour package for the privilege. :)

But after struggling with the travel agency to get a roommate
I got one at last!

And reverted back to them at the eleventh hour
But was told "Sorry, two Malaysian ladies just came to our counter,
Paid S$2,000 cash deposit and no more vacancy now...

"We will try the Spore Sports Council again to give us more games tickets. You see we originally asked for 40, but they could spare us only 14.
And SIA will increase its air ticket by another S$200 from next week!"

So my hopes were all dashed. No badminton tickets means no go, unless some kind soul can find me some.

Then I can go free and easy!

Still hoping for miracles to happen! ;)

Just treat the $3K as an investment for the mind, body and soul. Or save and invest $62.5 per month for the next 4 years to coverback the $3K. You will never know.. if invest the $62.50 or more a month for the next 4yrs in a right investment plan might give you an opportunity to have another go in the 2012 Olympics.

Don't say like that my friend. I'm sure you will have a long live. Of course i agree with you that God can take our life anytime.. you will never know.. i might go ahead 1st instead of you. Btw London underground is very much like MRT in Singapore or MTR in HK. I dont think you have problem in London. Its so easy to take the Underground.

Don't say that, Loh. I expect to see more of your badminton pics and stories for many years to come. Ok, here is my offer for you.

I don't have any tickets between 9th til 11th. I didn't know you are going. Otherwise, I would have purchased the first 2 rounds to join you. And you can have the tickets. ;)

I managed to get tickets from 12th til 16th.
Anyway, if you can go to Beijing between 13th til 15th, I don't mind letting you have my morning session tickets(10am to 1:30pm session), for a peking duck meal that is. :D :D

I still have the night sessions to watch. Didn't realise that I am going to watch badminton 8hrs(4hrs per session) for the 3 days when I book my tickets. This way, we can both enjoy the Beijing OG then. :) :)

As for the finals, I only managed to get one ticket on 16th. This, you will have to wrestle me down for it, well, unless your Singapore MD can make it to the final I would consider. :p :p

So there you go. You don't have to wait another 4 years. Just book your flight ticket and accomodation and I will see you there.

Now let me confirm what I just heard from you.
You can spare me the morning session tickets (10 am to 1.30 pm) for Aug 13, 14, 15 (3 days) for badminton. Right? All for just a Peking Duck meal? What about accommodation? Not possible from your end? ;)

If this is the case I will make arrangements to reach Beijing on Tue, Aug 12 and depart for home Sun, Aug 17 morning/afternoon. I still miss the Panda (not the BC Panda) at the zoo the last time. ;)

Dreamzz, don't be like tat lah! Singapore will host the Olympics before even your London Olympics, 2 years earlier to be exact, but it is just the Youth (Junior) Olympics!

I could always defend myself that as the name implies the real Peking duck is only available in Peking (Beijing) and it is not humanely possible for me to remain there for the rest of my life to ensure a continuous supply for BadFever. Being so acclimatized to the Singapore climate, I certainly cannot take the cold weather, the environment issues that Beijing has to offer!

Good news for me and hcyong.

The same tour company which offered the earlier package called me last Friday to find out whether I'm still interested in the Beijing Olympics.

Most of the items of the package are the same with the following changes:

1. The airline will be exclusively China Airlines, since SIA is charging another S$200 for outbound journey. We depart on Aug 12 instead of Aug 8, which is in fact better for me since I will be able to celebrate our National Day on Aug 9. :)

2. The badminton tickets are better since we now get to see the quarter finals of the badminton matches (previously preliminaries) and instead of gymnastics, we will watch table tennis, which is Singapore's best prospect to win a medal.

Aug 13 (Wed)

10.00 am: Badminton QF - WS, MD, WD (SF)
07.30 pm: Table Tennis - Women's & Men's Team Group 2nd Round Match
1 to 4.

Aug 14 (Thu)

10.00 am: Table Tennis - Women's & Men's Team Group 2nd Round Match
5 to 8.

06.30 pm: Badminton QF - XD and MS

Aug 15 (Fri)

09.00 am: Women's & Men's Team Bronze play-off First Round Contest

(Transport to and from games venue and hotel will be provided for 5 days.)

Hcyong and I will sign up for the twin sharing package.

Hau-ge (maybe with Fastdrop) and pjswift (with baddy kaki) may also be interested too.

But they have to act quickly in case the limited slots (left 8) are taken up soon. I missed the first one, but it was a blessing in disguise for this second package is more attractive, games-wise. :D
