Surprisingly, Fran Kurniawan/Rendra Wijaya are not seeded :cool:. However, they should have plenty of fire power of reaching the last 4, if not the Final.

R32: vs Adam Cwalina/Wojciech Szkudlarcyzk
R16: vs Andrew Bowman/Martyn Lewis
QF: vs Ross Smith/Glenn Warfe [4]
SF: vs Johannes Schoettler/Tim Detmann [2] or Anton Ivanov/Ivan Sozonov or Robert Adcock/Robin Middleton

I am surprised too! But after checking, I now understand that Fran-Rendra was listed as #3 entrant because of notional ranking and if the draw is too small, and there are only 4 seeds, pairs even with a high notional ranking cannot be seeded... :p normal rankings will be used...

Smith-Warfe of AUS are now ranked #45 in the world, while Chemnitz-Larsen of DEN are now ranked #39. While Fran-Rendra are #48... Fair-enough, actually... :p

Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka is going to play in qualification #8. I think Hayom will go far in this tournament... I think not only can he pass the qualification rounds, he can even defeat Richard Vaughan [5] and possibly Marc Zweibler [2]...

Wisnu Haryo Putro will have a tough time even at the qualification #7 rounds... MAS player Kuan Beng Hong most possibly will defeat him...

Ari Yuli Wahyu [currently part of INA's top 7 MS] will have an interesting match against Canada's tall and resilient Andrew Dabeka [3] in the round of 16. If he actually defeats Dabeka, then I predict a SF showdown against hometown hero Przemyslaw Wacha [1]!

Good to see the Aussies in this part of the world too! :D Badminton feels more like a global sports this way eh? ;) And apparently there is an Australian Open International Challenge now! I wish one day it will be a GP [or even GP Gold] event... That will be so cool! An Oceania tour with NZ Open GP and Australian Open GP. So cool!

Maria Elfira Christina, otherwise known as Fira, has the toughest draw among the INA ladies... Yes she does not have to fight in any qualification matches, but after the first round challenge against Kristina Ludikova of the Czech Republic, she will either meet Jang Soo Young or Juliane Schenk [1]... Tough tough second round... Maria Elfira is part of the triple Maria-s of Djarum ... :D:D:D

Sylvinna Kurniawan, the 2006 Indonesian Junior Champion and current INA #9, have completely recovered from her hip injury [that she suffered before the 2007 INA Open]. Sylvi should be a top unseeded challenger in this tournament. I think this 19-year-old not only can breeze through the qualification stages smoothly, but she can also defeat Finland's Anu Nieminen [5]. Sylvi most probably will finish as a quarterfinalist... :)

Rosaria Yusfin Pungkasari, whose nickname is [I]Pipin, will also qualify to the main draw and play Linda Zechiri of Bulgaria in the 1st round. Pipin, who is INA #8, has the the abilities to defeat Larisa Griga [4] of Ukraine and Charmaine Reid [8] of Canada... Last year, Pipin went to the final of Romania International and the quarterfinal of Finnish International. The cold weather suits her well. I think she can go as far as the semifinals... ;)

I think the draw is quite fair towards the INA ladies, who have travelled thousands of kilometers to Poland to compete as much as possible. All 3 of them are in the top half of the draw and don't have to meet any of the good Koreans or top seed too early. In the end, I think, realistically, a fit Petya Nedelcheva [2] or a fit Hwang Hye Young [3] will most likely win the whole thing. :)

Many Indonesians prefer to avoid the sun whenever possible. We have waaayyy too much sun in our country... :p That's why we play badminton a lot. Because it is an indoor sport...

And women with whiter skin are considered more attractive by most INA men; skin whitening products are sold at a premium here. So, the women are even more inclined to be indoors whenever possible...

this polish open is very weird..
the 1st round onli begins from friday:)

Many International Series and International Challenge tournaments in Europe are like this ;)... I believe this is because of 2 things:
1. Fewer days that count towards tournament-hall rental fees. :D
2. Too few spectators on Wednesdays and Thursdays... The hoards of spectators will most likely be around on Friday-Saturday-Sunday... :)

Ari Yuli Wahyu HARTANTO (http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/player.aspx?id=20174&player=187) vs Rajiv Ouseph
Stefan vs Aamir GHAFFAR (difficult to predict, Rematch of the Portuguese, Aamir lost to him in three games).

Petr Koukal vs Carlos Longo. (should be a good one)
Kestutis Navickas vs Richard Vaughan (this could be the most thrilling match for Today).

Rune Ulsing vs Marc Zwiebler (Marc should win in two easy games).

Meiliana Jauhari/Shendy Puspa Irawati should be ranked in the top 35 now after their victory in Poland this week, slightly above Lita Nurlita/Nitya Krishinda. They have won 1 International Series (Bahrain) and 2 International Challenge events now (Indonesia and Poland). They also finished runner-up in the NZ Open GP last year. They should now focus to win a GP event this year and achieve some creditable results (QF) in the Asian GP Golds (Philippines, Thailand, Macau) and Super Series (esp Singapore & Indonesia).

Meanwhile, the experienced home pair Robert Mateusiak/Nadiezda Kostiuczyk proved to be too much for Fran Kurniawan/Shendy Puspa Irawati as they won in straight sets 21-14, 21-13. A very creditable achievement by Fran/Shendy considering that XD is not their main events. Their ranking will shoot up from 129 to the top 90 next week.

Meiliana Jauhari/Shendy Puspa Irawati have won the WD title after they beat the second-seed Johanna Persson/Elin Berglom 21-11, 21-19. They have beaten the top 3 seeds (ranked 17th, 24th and 25th) in this tourney and collected 4000 ranking pts! Congratulations to them!

I just found out too. Excellent!!! ;) :D

Lita-Nitya is ranked 36 now, with accumulated total points: 24560
Mel-Shendy is ranked 38 now, with accumulated total points: 22930... but after this win... their total should rise to 26500. which should put them to rank 34 or something around that after the Polish Open result is calculated by BWF. ;)

Another 4000 points at the Finnish Open next week will make the total 29330, which could make the rank #29... ;) *I'm hopeful*

IMHO, its a tough draw for them at the Finnish International Challenge :o

I just saw that PBSI also sends a sizeable contingent (including some newly recruited Pelatnas players) to the Osaka International Challenge next week, concurrent to the Finnish International Challenge as well as the India Open GP Gold. It will be a busy week for INA second-stringers and Olympic hopefuls .

Exactly! They should endeavor to win a GP tournament this year... *actually, they should have done so last year too* :p

Candidate GPs: Vietnam, Bulgaria, Bitburger [Luxemburgh], Dutch...
USA and NZ this year coincides with PON [the Indonesian national multi-event championship]. Russia coincides with the Indonesian Badminton National Championships.

wow..I am glad that Mel/Shendy won....very critical to win as they need confident as they have not played well in last 6 months...Shendy is actually more talented than Mel but she is not focus and no fight during matches....being in final in XD and WD , Shendy has proved her better attitude of winning....

Deni Kantono [a.k.a. Chen Yuming] has returned to PB. Djarum after an absence of 2 years from coaching [to help grow his trading business]. Deni now was charged with all the WD squad since early this year, I think... Mel-Shendy are his top elite pupils, of course... ;)

I remembered I first saw her play was during the Cheers Asian Satellite, when she was still in Pelatnas, partnering Devi Tika Permatasari. She's really tall for an INA gal :o

Yes, Antonius is directly in charge of the adult MD [Rian-Yoke-Fran-Rendra-Wifqi-Alfiat-Rizky-Albert] From what I heard, Sigit Budiarto is doing a good job teaching the under-19 and under-16 MD team... :D I heard people say that when Sigit teaches, he reminds them of Phil Jackson of the LA Lakers.... I don't know whether those stories are true. Could be just some fans blowing things out of proportion... Hopefully, one of these days, his pupils will give him titles he can be proud about... ;) Not yet, though. :o

sure...basically in each tournament, eaither you will have 28 picks or 32 picks..( Sandy will detremine that)..so you pick single players in MS and WS who will win...since it si about the points...sometimes..we PAW big points...lets say LD vs Marc , based on the ranking, sandy has a formula so lets say LD vs Marc ( 5-25)..so if you choose LD is winner then youget 5 points but you choose Marc and he beats LD then you get 25 points...
For Double ( MD,WD and XD), we start PAWing from Quarter final onward...

for a super series event, you normally get 50+ players in the PAW game. most of the time, an average of 7-8 points per pick will win you the tournament ....
