On a serve if the shuttle clips the top of the net does play carry on or is it a let? does that depend on whether it lands in or not? ah- but then how would you know, surely you want to hit it before it hits the ground!

on any shot in badminton, play continues even if the shuttle hits the net. on a serve, if the shuttle hits the net and lands in, then it's good. if it lands short or out, then it's out. it matters not whether it has touched the net or not.

There is however one exception. When the shuttle remains in the net after having passed it, in normal play that would be a let but in service that is a fault. The thought behind this is that in this case the service would have been short anyway, so a let would be unfair.

i don't quite get this, what do you mean 'in the net after having passed it'?
where we play, if your shot gets the shuttle stuck in the net, whether on serve or during the rally, you lose the point. no lets, no fuss ....

It is possible for a shuttle to tumble over the net and then get stuck into it before it reaches the floor. It does not happen very often, but sometimes it does.

oh i see what you mean .... i've really only seen that happen once or twice in my entire life. and that has never happened on a serve, though i understand what you mean by not calling it a let.

I have seen it three times. Once on a service and twice in a rally. As you say, it does not heppen vry often.
