The Toronto District Badminton website is somewhat outdated so the information isn't relevant...please help~ Thanks. Creative 09-18-2001, 06:05 PM Andy, what are you looking for? Want a professional club that has excellent players that are ranked or just a "drop-in community centre or high school" type of club. How much are you willing to pay? divirtual 10-12-2001, 11:52 PM After a fair amount of searching (I live south of Queen Street, east of the Don Valley), I finally settled on playing at George Brown College (King Street East, near Sherbourne) You don't have to be a student. Community memberships are $85 for six months, or $5 drop-in. The times are Sunday, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. (when lots of people come), Tuesday 8 to 10 p.m. (when the "expert" players come, and I don't!) and Thursday 8 to 10 p.m. Sometimes Tuesday and Thursday start earlier, and very rarely start later. There are 4 courts and they play feather birds. Kim Ng is the coach and contact. Prior to this, I was playing in Toronto Parks & Rec facilities. (They all play plastic birds, which I'm not thrilled with). Most are a $2.50 drop-in fee. Matty Eckler (Gerrard and Pape) has a nice gym, but my experience was that it was way too crowded. Lots of teens played there. Before moving to George Brown, we played regularly at North Toronto Memorial Rec Center (Eglinton Avenue near Avenue Road) on Saturday nights. The courts are okay, and attendance varied from light to heavy. When I played at the Pape Rec Centre (near Danforth), the people were really nice, but the floors were linoleum, and the lighting was so bad that I was having problems seeing the shuttlecock. NewbieBadminton 01-03-2002, 11:33 PM got a number i can contact ? divirtual 02-24-2002, 09:30 PM The coach for George Brown College is Kim Ng. I think that you can leave a message with the athletics department at the college, but the number I have for him is 416-752-0685. |
