Hi Yippo,

First of all, welcome to Canada! Which province you will go to next year? As for badminton level in Canada, I would say is not very high because it is more popular in Asia. Canadian like hockey more!;) (not me though) As for badminton there are many places, but it depends on whether you want to play competitively or just for fun.

Looking for job in Canada is not very easy if you are from another country because usually they need Canadian experience before considering. You can check the local newspaper classified ad. or through the local head hunters (employment agency). Hopes it helps.

My Canadian relatives tell me getting a job is really tough even for Canadian graduates. Many grads with connections to HK come over for work experience!

Just make sure you know there is a demand for your area of expertise. The fact that you find few jobs just by websearches worries me. Either, 1) there are no jobs to speak of (supply of techonologists> demand), or 2) jobs only go via word of mouth or some other network you have yet to discover.

County standard should be fine for getting near provincial standard. Of course, that depends on the province you move to. Be prepared for long travelling times just for badminton.

You might want to talk to your profs and or mentors about working in Canada as they might have some information or network that could help you find placement here. You could also try Canadian based placement agencies like Workopolis.com and Service Canada website here (http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca).

Badminton is not huge in Canada, but you will be hard pressed to find more places to play than in the Lower Mainlands (Vancouver and surrounding areas) in British Columbia. The standards here are not the best nationally as most of our nationals train either in Calgary or in Ottawa, but its improving due to immigration of more players and coaches from Asia. The badminton scene in Vancouver has improved markedly over the past two years.

Vancouver would be a good bet. Mild climate, good food, many playing areas and quite a few BC'ers.

For radiation techs, try mainly web searches. Newspaper and job placements services are not as useful in this field. Tryfthese in your web search:

Vancouver Coastal Health - they'll have postings to most hospitals,
BC Cancer Agency - they had their own listings a while ago but cross-list on VCH's.

Look up CAMRT certification. Foreign trained techs with no Canadian experience but from UK, Aus, US and HK are not rare.

You'll likely begin working as a "casual". Amount of hours/schedule will vary, and lack certain benefits like paid time off.

Go to the CAMRT website. It's for all Canada. There's info and contacts for hunting down cross qualifications. Opportunities vary. Some years there's a local flood of qualified recent graduates.
