I always go to Creative sports for restringing and buying new racquets. they have very good services and good quality racquets and strings.
It is owned by a businessman from Hong Kong. He has his own brand, Viva and Vomino. Both quite alright brands in Hong Kong market.

Hmm...I frequently visit this shop, and I had bought two badminton rackets from there. AT 300 and Viva Vi-arc110 (clone of arcsaber10). Price is reasonable. Be a member, then you can get a discount. Even you can trade in your old / broken rackets here. Viva and domino products (clone of AT and arcsaber) are just great. Good quality and performance, and cheaper. Have a try!!

Hi, not sure about Creative at town, but i had bad experience with Creative bayan baru, the sales girl bad service, i walk in to try out their service, the sales girl dint even say anything and ask what i want, i stand there wander around in the small shop and then only ask her about stringing myself..that also she showing me a blank face. zzzz...since need to send to town for stringing and i cant wait for so many days, plus not being serve as a customer. i walked away and go to Add-one which is just a few shop next door.

the shop on macalister road in town had friendly and helpful staff when i was back in penang in december. was always called 'tow kay' when i was there, which is kinda awkward but at least the service was good.

the time it takes to string a racquet is a bit longer than most though, about 3 days, i suspect this was because they were having a promotion at the time, rm15 for bg65 strung using an electronic stringing machine. very good deal.

1. Young Ones, Jalan Mahsuri, Bayan Baru near Sunshine City. Very limited range of racquets here but bought a dozen Karakal super grips which was slightly cheaper than what I paid in Honly, JB. Racquets are mainly low to lower mid-end models.

They have a bigger shop in town along Burmah Road with a wider range of racquets which includes higher end models according to the staff here. The customers who patronise here are more affluent. I did not visit that branch but only pass by the shop.

Young Ones (Main Branch)
50-52 Burmah Road, Penang 10050
Tel: 04-2299555

Young Ones (Bayan Baru)
42-44 Jalan Mahsuri, Penang 11950
Tel: 04-5412233

website: www.youngones.com.my (http://www.youngones.com.my)

2. Lee Hoe & Co. (KOMTAR, Georgetown) shop facing MacAlister Road.
Also very limited range with only a few high-end models. I took a model of a Dunlop shoe on the display window.

3. Creative Sports, MacAlister Road, (short walk from Lee Hoe). They have a branch in Bayan Baru also but did not visit that branch.

Wider range of racquets here and staff (the guy) was helpful and knowledgeble. Offered me 15% off the sticker price on the racquets. Nearly tempted to buy 2 Carltons here with one of them a more expensive woven model. Never owned a Carlton and did not want to start a precedent now and resisted the temptation. Both racquets feel and looks good.. Yonex high-end models more expensive than Singapore even after the discount. Spotted a Ti-10 2nd gen there. Penangites looking for this racquet can make a beeline there ;)

Finn Enterprise, Kek Chuan Road off MacAlister Road behind Masjid Pakistan, a mosque (short walk from Creative Sports).

Pleasant, knowledgeble and helpful owner. uite a wide range of racquets, badminton gear but high-end racquet models you have to order as they don't stock it. You have to place a small deposit for this. Gosen you can collect it in 2 days (order from Gosen KL distributor) but Yonex it will take a week. Proace racquets have a buy 1 get 1 free promotion but not tempted. They have quite a number of customers there when I was there. Apparently this shop is more reputable and prices and service are better. Unfortunately what he have in stock did not interest me unless I make an order and collect another day. A shop would recommend.

Another shop I think its Mighty Sports or Mega Sports along Burmah Road just down the road from Young Ones going towards Tune Hotel which I did not visit but only pass by when I took the bus to Gurney Plaza. Maybe someone can fill-in about this place. I have to make my visit there my next trip to Penang.

Other shops in Batu Maung, Butterworth and Air Itam I heard about but did not have time to visit. Next trip!

Bestech Trading, located on Level 3 of the YMCA Building on Macalister Road (opposite Island Hospital).

So far in Penang, in my personal opinion, is the best shop to go to for all your badminton needs. The shop is managed by the lady boss, Irynn and assisted by Connie. Both are very nice and friendly ladies.

They carry everything from shuttles, strings, grips, shoes, racquets, stringing and they also do signboards, banners, t-shirts, name cards, trophies, medals etc. Their trump card is that they stock up on the full range of Yonex and Li-Ning products. Walk into their small shop and you'll be amazed at what you'll find:

Strings: Gosen, Yonex (and some Japan imported models), Ashaway, Victor, Pro Ace, Kx, Li-Ning
Shuttles: RCL (De Best, No.1, others), Protech (Masterpiece, Millenium, others)
Shoes: Yonex (SHB-91, 100, 101), Victor (802, 803, 805), Li-Ning
Bags: Couple of Yonex and Victor bags
Racquets: Full range of Yonex and Li-Ning and others includes Victor, Fisher, RSL
Grips: Karakal grips
Clothing: Yonex socks, shirts and shorts
Stringing: They have a Victor electronic constant pull stringing machine as well as a manual stringing machine

I always go here for my supply of RCL De Best shuttles and stringing needs and never have been disappointed by them. Have always recommended them to my friends and they too have been converted :)

They are open 7 days a week from 10 am - 10 pm. You can call them at 04 - 228 2968, just ask for Irynn or Connie and say Justin recommended you. Hope they will extend their hospitality to you like they always have done so to me.

Oh please do :)

I did asked them about the Arc Z and the Carbonex 35, they'll bring them in for sure in their next Yonex shipment. I didn't ask the prices cause I never did thought of getting them, but you can call them up and ask.

Generally, I find that they do give a fair bit of discount hence making their prices very competitive if not cheaper than others. Obviously, if you are a regular patron at their shop, discounts comes aplenty :) I like them because they are my 'one-stop' shop for everything, hence saves me the hassle of getting something here, getting it strung there etc.

Just visited them yesterday. They have the top of the range Li-Ning racquets for in stock and for sale (including the N90) and have a couple of Li-Ning racquets strung up for demo too if you want. There is a badminton court next to the shop for you to demo :)

They are also having a promotion now: Spend RM100 and above and be eligible to purchase a clone racquet (from a selection of 9 racquets) at only RM50.

The best badminton sport shop I can ever find in Butterworth / Penang.
I’ve been there for a few times and I think it’s a must to share with you guys.:p

HOUSE OF RACQUETS

72984

72986

The only sport shop in Northern Legion using YONEX ES5PRO for stringing service.

72985

YONEX ES5PRO is a world-class reliability computer stringing machine that used exclusively by the YONEX International Stringing Team and trusted by the tournament pros.

My comment after tried it on my racquet:
Solid feel, high tension holding characteristics that maintain high string repulsion power, outstanding durability ( tension will not run away and can last long ) .
All my friends said that the machine is the best and give the same comment.

HOUSE OF RACQUETS mainly carry YONEX, as they are sponsored by YONEX. In addition, you can also find other brands.

If you love YONEX clothing, there is also a good place to shop. I can find most of the tournament shirts and shorts there, even 2010 Thomas cup’s team shirts. Whatever latest YONEX products, that is the place.

They open 7 days a week, from morning till late night (not sure about the time, but I’ve been there at 9pm before)

You can look for Darren who is the boss. You’ll be surprised if you hear his background.
He is from YONEX-Sunrise’s group of stringers trained by the Yonex International Stringing Team, and he is also the official YONEX stringer in Asia and also a MASTER RACQUET TECHNICIAN, he will tell you what racquet suit your play style, so that you can perform your skills to the max!

He is former BAM player and now is a coach. He has BAM Coaching Certificate, a professional coach trained by BAM.
From the pictures with the National players in his shop, you’ll know that he’s been to many countries’ tournaments in Asia.

Just pay a visit and you will know more. Don’t forget to try that computer stringing machine.

Yup, probably the best shop in Penang in my humble opinion. Small shop, but they stock up on almost all models in Yonex, Victor, Li-Ning rackets; especially the high end models of Arcsabers, Nanospeeds, Armotecs, Braveswords and Li-Ning equivalents.

They have more Yonex shoes as compared to Victor or Li-Ning; they just received supplies of SHB200s, SHB85, SHB92 and SHB80EX. Though I did recall seeing Victor's latest shoe there (the grey one). Most unfortunate that they don't have the model you are looking for.

If you do go there again or have friends going there, do mention that Justin recommended them to you. I am sure they'll extend their hospitality to you as they have to me.

Justin.

i am looking for Victor shoes...not racket, i think the price of rackets in KL and Penang are much or less the same...
just which shop offer more discount...i think Bestech can offer good discount if i want to buy anything, just that my habit is not to ask about price when I do not have the intention to buy any that time...

yeah, I am looking for SHW 8000 ACE...but they do not have the model yet...anyway they are patient enough to introduce other Victor shoes and find the suitable size for me to try eventhough they know i am not buying. they even willing to borrow me a pair of sock so that I can have a better feel of the shoes with different size...i might drop-by again in my next visit to Penang..
i will surely mention your name that time....anyway I managed to go there due to your clear instructions....

Another quick one for Bestech, was there yesterday to re-string and saw the following in stock:
- Victor Bravesword 8, 9, 10 and 11
- Victor Spira 21
- Yonex player series (LCW, Taufik, Peter Gade)

As usual, ask for Connie or Irynn.

Justin.

Bestech Penang at YMCA are having 30% discount of their stocked Li-Ning player model rackets. Do drop by and ask for Irynn or Connie and said Justin recommended you.

Yurimaster, you can get the BS11 at Bestech too.

Justin.

justin,
thank you introducing ppl to go to bestech.
no doubt they are the most complete rackets seller except sotx, zelm, gosen, wilson, rsl which they dont sell or display much.

price is not cheap after i compare outside market.
i can get li-ning racket 40% discount, victor i can get 30% which they only give 15%-20% ....yonex they are expensive by rm50 when i bought 8Dx from them...personal experience...

just my feedback..

No worries Yurimaster, you are welcome.

Not defending Bestech nor have any affiliations with them but I feel I should comment in general.

I do not know if they are selling their equipment higher than other resellers, as my budget does not stretch that far but I have yet to come across a shop in Penang carrying higher-end models like they do (my apologies if I am ignorant in this and there are shops that do). If a buyer is getting their equipment quoted cheaper via interstate or through international shipment, they may want to also factor in the cost of shipment, fuel and time etc., I believe the actual price may end up being equal if not more than what they are selling.

It is a dog eat dog world in the reseller industry; no one reseller can stock all brands and models that you want, they have to be selective in what they want to carry and what they can sell/customers will buy. Resellers giving deep discounts will eat into their profit margins and they may even be making a loss just to sell a unit (possible sales quota to meet), so 30-40% discounts are not your everyday discounts. As the saying goes, when it is too good to be true, be wary! :D

Ultimately, it is the buyer's money and each individual to their own. I have had many previous dealings with them and I am very comfortable with them and I am sure many others have similar experiences, so they get my business regardless if it is RM50 higher than outside :)

Justin.

I wentto the House OF RACQUET last friday... the place is very hard to find.. been twice second time only i manage to find.. the sign is not really visible. And the shop is located inside the lanscaping store.. about the shop.. not that big but twice the space of Bestec and quit comfy. the stock not that much. But basicly covers most of the Yonex Hi-end racquet.. shoes range is okey.. Most of all of the Yonex shoes range is available..Now the stringging service. Bring two racquet there.. My Ti-10 and My old Gosen... Ti-10 goes for BG65 Ti and Gosen BG 6.. as the BG 66 and BG 65 got no Blue or White color... So decided for BG6 only... Price wise. BG 65 Ti Rm35 and BG6 Rm 28... cheap or not i'm not sure.. The Quality of the stringing service in my opinion quit good.. cos last time i ask a shop in Kulim to string my Gosen.. But they said that they not pretty sure la.. takut cannot stand la. But went to the guy says 25-26 no problem... than i go for 25.. same goes with my Ti-10. The ES5PRO also superb...very fast.. and the the guy used 4 point stringing style, which is quit hard to get in my place.. the guy name daren. Ex BAM player.. used to string in mlaysian Open. For WMC and Taufik Hidayat.. Nice guy. not that talkative, but manage to answer all of your question.

This is my experience at Bestech, I've been pretty much a loyal customer to them and so far, I'm not sure if they are the cheapest, but at least I know that what I buy is 100% original, no fakes. They even teach me how to spot a fake so that no one else can cheat me.

Purchased :

Li-Ning N90 Woods : (25% discount of price) around RM7XX
Nanogy 98 : Can't remember, but price included stringing my racket for me too.
RCL Omega Gold : RM46
Yonex Mavis 2000 (Nylon) : RM50 per 1/2 dozen

The only thing I can say is that they're shop is tiny like my toilet, but more selection of racquets than any commercial outlet (eg. RSH, etc) I've seen. They service is fast, friendly and they let me test racquets before I buy. Iryn (owner) is also a local coach for kids and she has a good eye for types of racquet. I asked her, for me....Z-Slash or N90...I only wanted one of those...none others...she said actually, I should go for Arc 10, but since I only wanted one of the two, she said take the N90...it's more suitable for me. She chose the cheaper of the two since she was able to give me a bigger discount on the N90 at that time. So, I won't say she's the cheapest or has the most stock...but at least she's honest and straight-forward with me. Recently, whilst I was in UK, I bought an Armortec 900P LCW Edition and a Arcsaber 10 PG Edition...and she was right...the Arc 10 was actually more confortable for me to use than my own N90....Well...from that, the moral of the story is...it's not about the price or the variety. It's the professionalism of the person serving you in the shop...and I vouch for her as "She knows her stuff". She'll only try to sell you what's right for you. Not just the most expensive.

Anyway, I'll be visiting her since she carries the Signature Series YY, because someone broke into my car and stole my whole collection from the boot. Haizz...damn sad. Please read Buy and Sell, if anyone comes across a AT900P LCW or AC10 PG, it has my name personalized on the T-joint. I'll reward anyone who can find it back for me.

Regards,

Daniel Khoo

Here in Vienna there's only one (!) badminton shop, and it's much smaller than the one in the pictures in this thread.

The "general" sports stores also sell some badminton stuff, but most of them only have 4-5 racket models (either very expensive high-end Yonex or some rackets no one has ever heard of).

Yeah, I have to admit that their services are not bad. However it's just the price issue. That after my survey and research throughout so many shops and internet. including kizzon.com li-ning malaysia All rights reserve, most of them offer me 25-30% discount as well as bukit dumbar Ace sport. However, previously I bought one Yonex Voltric 5 from them but later i found out that their prices are kinda more expensive than others as I can only get up to 20% for lower range racket but others still gave me 25% and i trust their services and skills.

Sitt, I've went there before to have a look. 3 words, Cant be trusted! They're using the oldest stringing machine and seems to be selling fake rackets for example i asked him to show me some of his Li-Ning rackets, omg it looks so much different with no hologram sticker on it!

Active Life Sports are much better, Uncle Tatt is very friendly and kinda honest! But they don't sell Yonex nor Li-Ning, they're more on Wilson, RSL, Apacs, Dunlop and also Protech. He's very well known for his 4knots stringing method.

Most badminton shops (inclusive of chain retailers like Royal Sporting House / Studio R / etc) carry badminton bags of different brands.

However, I recently purchased a very nice Yonex 9 racquet bag for a very low price from Bestech Sports.

The outlet is located on the 3rd floor of YMCA Penang. Though I don't work for them, I use their services regularly for restringing, accessories, racquets, etc. The owner is very generous with her discounts and their selection of goods are far superior to many other outlets around Penang. They carry many brands from low end (apacs, etc) until highest end models (YY, Li-Ning, etc). Though I cannot promise you that they have the cheapest in Penang, but I can get whatever I need there and they keep stock ready. Worth a look.

P.S (I know this is off topic but)
May I ask where I could buy tennis and squash racquets in Penang? I am finding a shop that sells brands that have high-end racquets one. (Tennis: Babolat & YouTek) , (Squash: Prince & Dunlop)
