Waking up today reading a good news on The Straits Time that Aviva has extended their sponsorship to Singapore Open for 2 years (2008-2009) worth "over US 1 million" with an option for a further 3-years deal.
This is indeed a good news to badminton in Singapore as there was a concern on Aviva continue involvement since the previous sponsorship deal expired last year. Those members who recalled, I wrote a letter to Aviva asking them to serioulsy consider continuing their corporate involvement.

So all well ends well - at least for the next 2-5 years for Singapore Open. I still strongly believe badminton needs more corporate involvment in major tournament. Yonex cannot be the only one sponsoring all major events - they just donot have the finances to pay big in so many Super Series/GP events.
By the way, it was reported that on the final on 15/June, Aviva will also donate $1 to charity (Food from the Heart, a non-profitable organisation who help to channel unsold bread to welfare homes and needy families in Singapore) for every spectator who turns up in any yellow top - yellow is the corporate colour of Aviva.
So any forum members planning to go to the final of Aviva Singapore Open this year, do remember to put on a yellow top. There is nothing better than enjoying good badminton and at the same time help on charity!
