I wondered but then the guy always has the ability but lacks the stamina. Is it too early to say the guy is finally making good ?

I think BAO is a wonderful 'scalp' to have. If he gets the next one today (Chen Jin), it would prove that he is well and truly back to his best. Here is hoping.

Bad luck LCW - I always thought you were not going to be too deep in this coz there was no 'positives' from you. But I know you will bounce back as always.

My guess is BCL underestimated HH too much (maybe he want to save his energy against SDK later), and HH really play hard this time from the score. Anyway, winning against world no3 is really something ... Congrat to HH and WCH also. Sony must be very happy now ...hehehehe

Yes, of course. Sony is no easy-meat. Hence, if HH beats him, I am willing to upgrade his 'yo-yo' grade to "Steady Eddy".:D

Well if Sony had done well in recent tournaments, I might agree with that. But he has done a bit of yo-yo'ing like HH, so I am less inclined to think he has the edge over HH.

Sony is Mr. Quarter-Final...:D Maybe today he has a chance to prove me wrong too by beating Hafiz and enter his first SF since the CT Open 2007.

hafiz vs sony - 1 will prevail with smooth sail ?? i think it wont be a test-to-the-limit thing like as if its lcw vs th or say .. ld vs th .. or ld vs lcw ...

I am pretty pleased with WCH and Hafiz, maybe they know that with the Thomas Cup coming up, they don't want to be considered unreliable for getting points for Malaysia. Beating CY and BCL is no easy task.

A very good job, now it seems that CHN too has only one reasonably solid MS. Gives other teams a lot of scope, and hope ....... :D

I think it takes a brave person to predict that he will win. However, I wish him luck coz he needs to bring his confidence level up for the Thomas Cup.

With his poor physical condition of late, the 26-year-old Hafiz entered the court as the underdog but he turned on the power to beat world No. 3 Bao Chunlai of China 21-23, 21-15, 21-15 in a 57-minute third round match yesterday.
Hafiz, in full flow with his attacking game, tore apart Chunlai to set up a clash against World Championships runner-up Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia in the quarter-finals.
Boosted by the win, Hafiz said his morale was high ahead of the Thomas Cup Finals, which will be held in Jakarta from May 11-18.
“This is really, really satisfying. I wanted to prove that my preparation is in order for the Thomas Cup Finals and that is why I went all out against Bao,” said Hafiz, who immediately called his wife Nadzatul Shima to tell her about his conquest.
“My confidence was dented when he (Bao) came from behind to win the first game. But I just threw whatever I had at him. Today (yesterday), my smashes and net play worked to my advantage.”

I am certainly very happy to see Hafiz beat Bao but a bit conservative to claim Hafiz is back. Is only one match and for Hafiz to beat any top notch player, every departments of his game have to work to perfection and did this time. If Hafiz able to overcome Soni then we can take a sip of our "kopi-o" and said "He is back" :D

Hafiz played right strategy to overcome BCL who is a moody-type shuttler, inconsistent and only sometimes he can produce impressive performance. Or based on Hafiz's opinion through BWF website :

YONEX-SUNRISE ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Boonsak, Hafiz slay top guns

18 April 2008

"Perhaps, he is not really focused on this tournament as the Thomas Cup will be held soon but I'm very happy with this win."

its all normal. people win and lose, some win more and some lose more. we've gotten quite used to Hafiz losing, that is why his win over BaoCL would seem a miracle. nevertheless, its a good effort.
remember Boonsak winning the Singapore Open last year?

Here's how Rajes Paul describes Hafiz's win in The Star Sport, 18 April 2008:

With his poor physical condition of late, the 26-year-old Hafiz entered the court as the underdog but he turned on the power to beat world No. 3 Bao Chunlai of China 21-23, 21-14, 21-14 in a 57-minute third round match yesterday.

Boosted by the win, Hafiz said his morale was high ahead of the Thomas Cup Finals, which will be held in Jakarta from May 11-18.

"This is really, really satisfying. I wanted to prove that my preparation is in order for the Thomas Cup Finals and that is why I went all out against Bao," said Hafiz.

"My confidence was dented when Bao came from behind to win the first game. But I just threw whatever I had at him. Today my smashes and net play worked to my advantage."

Congratulations to Hafiz.

From the above description, one can conclude that Hafiz prevailed because he took more risk and concentrated on his attacking game to win.

His physical condition must have improved because he could last almost an hour in this high level match and he attacked Bao into submission with his smashes.

His mental strength has obviously returned too because he was able to forget his closely-fought first game loss to focus on his subsequent games for a win!

His confidence has returned and this signals a good omen for Malaysia in the forthcoming Thomas Cup competion in Jakarta. :)

this is more like it.... INA vs MAS sniping at each other...

I'm sorry Indonesians, but you are going to be disappointed.

Hafiz is going to unleash his power against Sony, who with all due respect, is a great player, but will not hold up against the tirade that is going to rain down upon him.

First he will attempt to use his deception. However, with solid ground strokes Hafiz is going to overwhelm him, unleashing the power that has been hiding in him for 5 years.

Even the strongest man cannot contain the Three Gorges Dam (or in this case, the Bakun Dam)...

How is that for a metaphor?

(I know it is exaggerated ;) ;) )

Taufik v Wong Chong Han (Taufik has the edge)

Nova-Chandra v Koo-Tan (Hope Chandra makes an upset might happend we'll see)
