basically it said that lin dan went to shopping then he saw a new model of samsung hp which he like but there are no stock available.
the salesman insisted him to pay a deposit of RM500 in order for him to order the model but end out lin dan dont like it as it was a touch screen type.
at the end, the salesman rejected his request to return him the deposit he paid earlier..

.
Perhaps Lin Dan's performance was affected because he felt "cheated" before the match.

That is not sportmanship from you ! We can dislike someone but no reason to wish him a badluck for their misfortune.

If I am U and happens in front of me, I will personally refund him RM500. It is bad enough that it happened to your invited guess and yet you cheer for that. What if any Chinese fans read your thread ? embarrassing ?

What makes you think the story is true and LD's a victim?
My first question is, 'Is this story cooked up?' and if not, what's LD's motive in telling it?
This kind of story can have one key effect: Smear Malaysia's retail reputation and leave a lasting bad impression. Why would LD want to do that? That's so small mind.(Can you imagine LCW having a bad shopping experience in CHN and telling netizens about it? LCW wouldn't do that because 1. he has better things to do and 2.he is smart enough to know it can happen anywhere and the last thing to do is to taint a host country's name because it would reflect badly on him.)
Let me give 2 possible reasons why LD told the story:
1. ABC (mainly MAS) fans did not give LD the WR1 reception he expected. Instead LD was booed because of his poor behaviour.Creating the story was his way of getting back at MAS (fans).
2. Assuming the story were true,it's LD's way of showing his retail innocence and for someone who's travelled all over the world, that's rather unbelievable. My experience with JB retailers has been pleasant. They are very accommodating and if there's any special request, they will try their best to help. So, in LD's case, if they have to make a special order for that handphone model, then it makes sense to ask for a deposit which at least will cover their cost, otherwise they may be left holding a baby no one else want if LD changes his mind. Which he perhaps did!
LD has tarnished Malaysia's good shopping impression in his own little way.Well, if I were a Malaysian and knows Mandarin, I would rebut that story the way I did here to neutralise it and let people reflect better.
Maybe, jasonmarc, you can do your country a favour.

I still doubt bout the news..y LD never report to the police if the salesman reject to refund to him??

mayb as what pjswift said, it's his fault at the 1st place as there is no way that the salesman would want to refund the RM500 deposit to him after he decided not to buy the handphone.. this is because the sales man need to pay for cost of the handphone which he also cant return to the supplier.. as u know, hp become obselete very fast.. so he need the money to cover his lost in case he cant get buyer for the phone.. this is normal in business

So... The thread title that winnie had selected (with the question mark) is correct. It was a question, not a statement.
Perhaps the thread could have been titled "Lin Dan lost money in JB". :o:o:o

what I see here is imagination + prejudice.
we are not child; we all know what kind of trick of this "deposit" thing, all over the world, not only in JB.
even if u do not like sb, this is still not the justification u can applaud his misfortue.
I am not going for a debat here. period.

Provided this incident actually happened. It wasnt reported in the English or Malay or mainstream Chinese press (Nanyang & Sin Chew).
Anyway, from my own experience, the dealer/owner normally wouldnt refund the $$$ but allows the customer to choose another model. And they tell the customer upfront. If they dont I would think LD is smart enuf to ask if the deposit is refundable if he rejects the particular hp model.
It's bad for business if they outright refuse to refund - unless LD refuse to purchase other models.
TO be fair to both sides, there are difficult customers who are very fussy & then accuse sellers/dealers of cheating them when the customer dont like the product - whilst agreeing to all the terms & conditions before that. After that, bad mouth the seller.
If you're in the customer service/sales line you would know.
Or could just communication problem. Though Mandarin is widely spoken in Msia, I find China's Mandarin a bit tough to understand at times.
