The BBC will be broadcasting in the UK on the digital channels as usual. The coverage is usual pretty extensive.

UK players and the finals are usual on the Main channels as well.

It seems INA peoples could not enjoy LIVE telecast of the biggest sport event in this year, Beijing Olympic Games because there's not any INA TV station yet which want to buy OG broadcasting rights until now. This similar case also happened four years ago in Athens.

Local TV Station Executives consider US$1,5m (IDR.13,8 billion) as broadcasting rights price tag that offered by ABU (Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union) is too expensive. Irwan Hendarmin, Production Affair General Manager of Global TV (one INA national private TV) said the multisport event like Olympic Games has less interest to get sponsorship/advertisers.

What a disappointing news for INA viewers...

Yup, TVRI takes OG the broadcast rights in last minutes! And here's the news article :

Indonesian State TV to Air Beijing Olympics Live, Free 2008-07-15 14:01:35 Xinhua

After missing live coverage of badminton player Taufik Hidayat's gold medal winning feat at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, Indonesians will be able to watch the Beijing Olympics next month live and free, as state-owned TV of the Republic of Indonesia (TVRI) acquired the broadcast rights.

"We will air the Games," the Jakarta Post Daily Tuesday quoted TVRI spokesperson Meggy Theresia Rares as saying.

This is good news for Indonesian sports fans, she said.

"On Tuesday we will sign a memorandum of understanding with the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU)," Meggy said on Monday, referring to the organization in charge of the Games broadcast in 28 Asian countries and regions.

She declined to say how much TVRI had paid for the rights or to provide any other details, promising more information would be forthcoming after the agreement is signed.

there any channels broadcasting to Canada? O_O...

Badminton enthusiasts in Canada may be disappointed once again. It seems that CBC and TSN will not be showing any badminton (except perhaps for minute summaries).

They could try to watch on American MSNBC (available through the Canadian cable or satellite TV providers), if MSNBC does not switch their international feed to some other programming (durning the 2004 Games, CNBC switched their international feed to CNBC International while CNBC US was showing Olympic events including badminton).

The MSNBC schedule as posted by ctjcad (with underlines by me) follows:

MSNBC is on Channel 115 on the Shaw digital service (Channel 185 on Rogers).

You may be able to see some Olympic badminton on MSNBC in Canada if CBC does not have the transmission blocked or MSNBC does not switch their non-US broadcast to other programming.

Bad news for Canadian badminton fans - the NBC cable channels which are scheduled to show 2008 Olympic Games events and which are available in Canada - MSNBC and CNBC are being switched to other programming on the Canadian cables when these are showing 2008 Olympic Games events in the USA.:mad::mad:

Hi Folks:

I don't think those of us in the US (at least) will be able to watch Streaming broadcase from CCTV/PPStream/UUsee .... due to copyright agreement since CCTV/PPStream/UUsee are official broadcast channels and they won't violate NBC's rights in the US.

I was not able to view any of the prelim program from PPstream/CCTV; and UUsee gives me the message that broadcast is good for China/Macau region use only.

Anyone have any information on these issues?? I have a feeling NBColympics.com and the Live CCTV streaming by the other P2P sites(hope some of them works) will be the only way those of us in the US will be able to catch.

Any ideas?? How to do the Proxy tricks if needed??

To get a list of proxies based in China, go to
http://www.cybersyndrome.net/country.html
scroll down to China, and then click on "Proxy." In Firefox, click on Tools, Options, Advanced, Networks, Settings and then input the Chinese ip address and port. This should work in a browser, but not sure how to set it up in p2ptv apps like ppstream or uusee.

The IOC announced Monday that YouTube would be offering online coverage of the Beijing Olympics in 77 territories across Africa, Asia and the Middle East, only in areas without an exclusive digital online provider. The channel, which can be found at www.youtube.com/beijing2008 (http://www.youtube.com/beijing2008) is not available in countries with existing online deals, such as the U.S. where all broadcast rights are owned by NBC....

VChing, there's Shanghai Sports, and livestream of RTM 1.

Oh yeah, for those who're interested, just now RTM 1 showed badminton in the afternoon session, MS, the Taiwan guy vs the Iran guy. It was boring so I turned over to RTM 2, which was showing men's gymnastics.
RTM 1 & RTM 2 show different sports.

I guess TVRI may broadcast badminton LIVE since quarterfinal?! Fortunately, I have watched Vita/Lilyana vs Yang/Zhang match at CCTV2 through Satellite TV (parabola). Although INA pair got early exit, Vita/Lilyana was so relax at the end of the match as both of them smile. Hopefully they will produce best result in XD!

Shanghai Sports & GD Sports, can watch thru PPMate, TVants,Sopcast(stimes only).
Be forewarned that Shanghai & Guang Dong are not in the list of "Live Sports" for PPMate but I had saved them in my favorities,he he. Try a search for it if you dont see it in the list. ;)Sopcast was showing Shanghai for a few minutes then went offline. PPMate is best bet for me.

It is possible to get into NBC Olympics using a fast anonymous US-based proxy. Also TVAnts is broadcasting CCTV-5. I couldn't find working CCTV-5 channels for Sopcast or PPLive. PPStream has a bunch of Olympic coverage, but it looks like you need a Chinese IP Address.

You have to use a proxy server which stands in the USA.

Can someone plz answer this?

It's all up to your cable provider in Hong Kong, meaning if your cable program don't have HD then you don't have, there's no tricks about this. In US, badminton happens to be braodcast in HD channels(ABC HD, USA HD, Universal HD) so we can watch with HDTV using HD box( you need to have both to work).
I think only Japan has HD program so far in Asia?

go to tools --> options --> advanced --> then go to the networks tab --> click settings --> then go to that manual proxy as given .

you will need to install silverlight 2.0 and it MAY give an error at first because it sometimes gets corrupted and the full thing does not get downloaded just try again.

THANK YOU FOR SHOWING ME THIS! I LOVE IT!!

I specifically want to watch mens singles, but the other types of badminton are good as well.

I live in Canada, so I cannot access NBC or America-only streams.
I only have CBC, and since badminton is not popular, they do not show many games. The quality is bad and they show too few games.

Where can I watch online?
Thanks.

update: Ultrasurf is working now it seems. I'm watching women's doubles . Didn't enter any manual proxy in browser.

Sometimes the ultrasurf connection drops and the video stalls. And that was probably what happened during LCW match. Switching servers in ultraproxy might help (clicking on the green icons).

For zip code, I used one that's closest/closer to my location (Buffalo vs SE Ontario) and chose Time Warner Cable. I had previously tried a random code based in Cal and was getting alot of skips (buffer loadings) so I reinstalled and entered a different location. So far getting much better results, alot less skipping.

If you need to look up zip codes try http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/citytown.jsp

All of NBC's servers are probably in the same location, so the zip code won't matter much. Silverlight has several different quality settings, and it will switch to a lower res but higher speed one if it detects the skips.
