View Full Version : Thomas Cup 2008 - May 18 - Final - CHN vs. KOR
weeyet 05-16-2008, 08:24 AM I foresee Korea having the best ever chance to win.
Mixed feeling, China has been dominating the sports, hope another team to win it, but Korea is not my favourite.
Anywa, lets see:-
China vs Korea
Lin Dan - Park Sung Hwan, 55-45.
Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng - Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae, 40-60
Bao Chunlai - Lee Hyun Il, 43-57
Guo Zhendong/Xie Zhongbo - Lee Jae Jin/Hwang Ji Man, 30-70
Chen Jin - Shon Seung Mo, 60-40
I'd say that, whoever won the 2nd singles, will win the Thomas Cup. In this case, Korea stands a better chance, because Korea's MD2 and China's MS3 almost certainly to win.
Either Korea win it 3-0, or 3-1, they can never go to 3rd Singles
zqloy 05-16-2008, 08:26 AM This is the best chance for Korea to win it.

it is lin dan 30-park70...park first beat lin dan 4 years ago when he was 20 at MO......park win 3 times and lin dan win 2 times...jung and lee will win it...hwang and lee will win too...
bananakid 05-16-2008, 08:30 AM Guys... LYB already mentioned that Chen Jin injured his back during his match against Hafiz, and probably won't play in the final.:crying:
Chen Yu will probably be the 3rd MS.
Korea will win 3-2 with both MD and MS3 considering how poorly Chen Yu has been performing this entire year.

No way... Chen Yu beat LHI in All-Englands. He's the type of player that if you give only one game instead of like 3 consecutive games, he'll come out with the goods as he can go all out just that one time, no need to conserve energy needed for his smash based game.

Waist, back.. whatever... bottom line is Chen Jin is injured, and don't worry I will never be your doctor, so my knowledge of medical terms or Chinese translation is not important.
sumbadder 05-16-2008, 09:37 AM Is the order going to be: MS1, MD1, MS2, MD2, MS3 again? Or can they make the order something odd?
ctjcad 05-16-2008, 09:48 AM ...come Sunday, as we shall see which team the crowd will lend its support to. The Koreans or.................the Chinese....;)
*Since most of the predictions now indicate the KOR will take down the mighty CHN, i still don't understand the thinking behind the KOR's squad approach in their group play: simply just to avoid CHN until the Final round. Win or lose, it's inevitable they will have to meet CHN?!?!?!.........Anyway...
limsy 05-16-2008, 09:50 AM If Lin Dan lost, it's over for China
of course he will...beating world no.1 at age of 20...is a big acheivement...right???
Jasonvan 05-16-2008, 11:23 AM China will win, I have no respect for Korea using their strategy to get to the finals, China's singles players have the edge and FHF/CY seem to be playing better as of late....
ye333 05-16-2008, 11:41 AM CJ cannot finish even one not-that-hard match without triggering his injury... :(

Sounds familiar, but Malaysia still lost if memory serve me right :D I do agree Korea is slight better than Malaysia having Lee Hyun Il as MS2.
yen_saw 05-16-2008, 12:03 PM CJ cannot finish even one not-that-hard match without triggering his injury... :(
But he won the game nevertheless!! and it is a crucial one. I think you have really underestimated his ability. At this stage he can beat TH even with injury.
forget about reading Chinese players mind. i mean come on, how can one ever do it? when they look injured, they are not (ala CJ in HKO2007). and when they don't look injured, they are! (CJ in TC2008)
yen_saw 05-16-2008, 12:09 PM If china is putting CJ for the final, i am sure the injury wasn't that serious at all (or there isn't any to start with), just the LYB strategy to confuse opponent.
yen_saw 05-16-2008, 12:10 PM I really doubt that CJ could beat HH with back injury. He must be at his best or LYB wouldn't field him at ll.
Xenoy009 05-16-2008, 12:31 PM Thomas Cup final:
CHN :KOR = 1:3
LD vs PSH -
CY/FHF vs LYD/JJS -
I really doubt that CJ could beat HH with back injury. He must be at his best or LYB wouldn't field him at ll.
he injured his waist during the match against HH.
yen_saw 05-16-2008, 12:42 PM Still amazed me how Korea make it to the first final. Losing to both Malaysia and ENgland in the early stage but now they are laughing their way into the final. LYB is having headache now i bet;)
Xenoy009 05-16-2008, 12:53 PM Thomas Cup final:
CHN :KOR = 1:3
LD vs PSH -
CY/FHF vs LYD/JJS -
sorry incomplete post. it should be:
Two outcomes as i predict:
CHN: KOR = 1:3
LD beat PSH
CY/FHF lost to LYD/JJS
BCL lost to LHI
GZD/XZB lost to LJJ/HJM
or
CHN: KOR = 3:2
LD beat PSH
CY/FHF lost to LYD/JJS
BCL beat LHI
GZD/XZB lost to LJJ/HJM
CY or CJ beat SSM

enuff of chn winning tc!!
Personally.. i think Korea have a high chance to win. I would support Korea also.
Jasonvan 05-16-2008, 01:22 PM China 3-0 or 3-2, LD, BCL FHF/CY with 3 quick wins or 3-2, with two of the above winning and CJ or CY picking up the third point!

Your wordings are very misleading. LYB said he is HOPING not PREDICTING.
Wong8Egg 05-16-2008, 01:46 PM I am rooting on Korea too. And I rather think MS1 would be most important. Korea has a good chance if PSH create miracle again by beating LD and they will be likely to steal 1 pt from MD2 and 50:50 on MD1 and MS2.
Go Korea Go!
ye333 05-16-2008, 01:54 PM Ahhh??? You are not supporting China?

madbad 05-16-2008, 01:56 PM KOR is on a huge roll. They have played their cards right to get to the final (much to the displeasure of tactically naive fans ;)). CHN's not gonna back down, no way. If they are going to relinquish their crown, there's going to be collateral damage.
MS1: LD v PSH. Very close one to call. LD doesn't play well against PSH's style and his record shows. On the other hand PSH has been pushed to the limit in his last 2 matches and fatigue must be a factor. I say no way LD's going to lose 2 matches in a row. His pride won't let him. CHN 1 KOR 0
MD1: Fu/Cai v LJD/JJS. Another close one. Fu/Cai seem to have become more mature tactically and must be considered the best pair in the world. LYD/JJS are in one word, amazing. Anything you hit to them comes back at you. LYB will have prepared a solid game plan for Fu/Cai to tackle the Koreans. CHN 2 KOR 0
MS2: BCL v LHI. Both looked good yesterday in the demolition of their respective opponents. KOR will now be desperate and LHI will be throwing the kitchen sink at Bao in order to salvage the tie for KOR. And he'll just squeak it out. CHN 2 KOR 1
MD2: Xie/Guo v LJJ/HJM. Based on the pathetic schoolboy standard performance put up by the CHN pair, they are going to be flattened by a pair better than Fuzzy. Easy point for KOR. CHN 2 KOR 2
MS3: CJ or CY v SSM. A grand final fittingly comes down to the do-or-die-match. Will CJ be fit to play... is LYB playing mind games with all of us (again)? CY must be practicing like hell just in case. I'll say CJ would give his left nut to play. No way is he going to miss it. Which SSM will show up; the 2004 OG Silver medal or the washed up HH clone? If it does get to this stage, I must give the edge to CHN. It's time they showed they can complete the job against opposition of the highest calibre. FINAL SCORE CHN 3 KOR 2
And BTW, I'm a now big fan of the professional way KOR has approached this Thomas Cup tournament.
cooler 05-16-2008, 01:59 PM KO vs China is a great testing ground for lyb to gauge how threatening to his chinese players, and do some final tweaking before the OG. Win or lose doesnt matter, LYB wanna see what korea can put out at their redline rpm, or higher, if any.
Wong8Egg 05-16-2008, 02:37 PM Ahhh??? You are not supporting China?
Do a search on my previous posts, I don't support China all the time, it is only you who labeling me a Chinese supporter. Even when I clearly stated I support LHI during Korea Open. :(
AlanY 05-16-2008, 02:39 PM Korea wont get my respect even though they win the cup
that will really bother them!
bananakid 05-16-2008, 02:50 PM You should change your BC handle to "bananaLYB" :D:D
It is not going to be easy as I highly rate Lee Yong Dae as my most appreciated and respected personnel in professional badminton. LYD's talent and his maturity in the game at this early stage is just nothing less than AMAZING to me.
Li YongBo on the other hand is a genisus and a great strategist in my book.
Back to topic...
I strongly believe that Korea will win this year's Thomas cup... and in my opinion, the winner of the 1st MD match will determine the winner of the cup.

Yes, I have to agree Lee Yong Dae is something special, a prodigy if you will. It's been a while since I've seen someone influence a game of doubles (MD or XD). KOR doubles will go through another golden era.
As for the key match in the TC, I agree MD1 is the one. No one should underestimate Fu/Cai as they've gone about their business with the minimum of fuss. And that's always a dangerous thing.

By far, the best analysis.
Totally agree that MD1 and MS2 is 50-50.
But i think BCL has slightly edge against LHI.
May be 52-48?
wood_22_chuck 05-16-2008, 04:26 PM Korea wont get my respect even though they win the cup
In light of the KOR vs CHN Thomas Cup final, Pemuda's statement is prophetic. The semifinals is the start of the Thomas Cup. Early rounds are jockeying for position.
BWF screwed up by providing a loophole. Exploited. Where's the condemnation on BWF?
KOR comes out as brilliant strategist, having (1) conserved energy and effort and (2) having a wildly fun time, in the group matches.
I'm sure many were waiting for KOR to falter in the quarters and semis, but they've juggernauted through to the finals.
Congrats to KOR.
Malaysia isn't ready to go beyond the semis. LCW is ready, the Thomac Cup 2008 Fairuz/Zakry was ready, but the rest are over the hill, as young as KKK/TBH currently are. A split for the pair has proven to rejuvenate either member (paired with experience, Choon Tan Fook), so let's see if Rexy explores this avenue in the future.
Indonesia with an out-of-shape Taufik was not ready either. Not with a rested KOR team waiting in the semis for them.

what is said here is profound.
while there is official rule in ensuring that a player, once in court, should play with reasonable effort, there is no rule in place that says a team must field their best player in a team match.
as a result, from the technical point of view, KOR's strategy is legal.
from a strategic point of view, what other proof do we need than the fact that KOR has now earned a spot in the final?

You are absolutely right.
Just like you said, Fu/Cai are also excellent players, too. In fact, I have always been impressed with Fu's out of the world smashes, and I am a big fan of him... but at the same time, I have to be neutral, and say that at this moment, the momentum is certainly on the side of LYD/JJS ever since AE08.
Both China and Korea players are very very "EXTREMELY" serious about team tournaments, and I expect nothing less than an epic battle.
I am betting on a Korean victory, but it wouldn't upset me at all if China is to win another Thomas cup.:p
llpjlau 05-16-2008, 05:08 PM I really doubt that CJ could beat HH with back injury. He must be at his best or LYB wouldn't field him at ll.

...but what would happen if it was M'sia which played against INA in the Semis, rather than against CHN??..Do you or does anyone else feel they have a chance to upset INA??..
Anyway, we won't know the answer and i hope if BWF doesn't change the TC & UC system, the MAS, or other teams, will do the same approach as the KOR squad did this yr, in 2 more yrs..Of course, the current teams might be different also in 2 yrs time..
king_kenny 05-16-2008, 06:18 PM Hi, this is my 1st post. try to search for latest news on TC, and found this forum. Nice forum indeed.
My concern about the Korean 'tactics', is that other theam will follow suit, and ppl start throw away games, this is what happen in Asean football in 1998.
.................................................. .............................................
This is from the infamous 1998 Asean Football Tiger Cup game between Thailand and Indonesia.
"Whoever won would get to face hot favourites Vietnam in the next round, so both teams tried to throw the match," "At 2-2 and with a few
minutes left, the Indonesians dropped all pretence and turned on their own
goal, now defended by Thai players.
"In injury time the Indonesian keeper-captain Mursyid Effendi 'saved' the
ball, turned round and thumped the ball into his own goal for a 3-2 final
result."
Justice was eventually served, however. For not only did Indonesia and
Thailand lose their semi-final games (to Singapore and Vietnam,
respectively) but both were also fined $40,000 for "violating the spirit of
the game." Meanwhile Mursyid Effendi was banned for life.
ctjcad 05-16-2008, 06:19 PM ...
China vs Korea
Lin Dan - Park Sung Hwan, 55-45.
Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng - Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae, 40-60
Bao Chunlai - Lee Hyun Il, 43-57
Guo Zhendong/Xie Zhongbo - Lee Jae Jin/Hwang Ji Man, 30-70
Chen Jin - Shon Seung Mo, 60-40
...
MS1-If it's the LD we saw in the Semis, it's PSH to take it all the way. Chances are, LD won't repeat the same thing. Crucial pt.
MD1-IMO, after what i've witnessed in FHF's & CY's match vs. KKK & TBH, this one is 50-50. I think FHF's & CY's defense and attacks are sharp.
MS2-50-50. It'll be another battle of the lefties.
MD2-KOR to take it.
MS3-Wow, 50-50. Should CJ recover in time, he'll take it.
Should be fun..

This tactic is not invented by KoR. I remember INA used this tactic to China . I do not remember the exact year. China wanted to lose too but China won.
madbad 05-16-2008, 06:42 PM From a BC fan point of view, this is a strange final where they are going to cheer against one team rather than for one. It is indeed a very black and white issue. For some, they just can't bear the sight of CHN's dominance and crave for even the slightest crack in the great wall. For others, the farce created by KOR in the group matches has been deemed unforgivable.
As I have said before, I congratulate KOR for taking advantage of the rules and planning their strategy perfectly. Based on the strength of their squad, I'm delighted to see them take their rightful place in the final. However, I am first and foremost Chinese and hence will be donning red when the two teams clash tomorrow. GO CHINA

PSH will beat LD, LD little bit get the difficulties when he faced PSH. If I not mistake, he has beaten LD 1 or 2 times. This is the best opportunity for PSH to beat LD once again. He get high spirit after won from Sony in front of 10,000 supporters of INA.
LYD/JJS also is on fire. The opportunity is 50-50. With support from Indonesia people who watch the match (I think only 5% seat will be occupy, and you may get the tickets easily :P) and want to bring TC move out from CHN, LYD/JJS can get this match and 2-0 for CHN.
BCL vs LHI also 50-50. I think CHN will focus more in this match because the point of KOR is on LHI's shoulders. If LHI can win this match, than KOR will get the title. TC will have new champion!
HJM/LJJ vs XZB/GZ will play if score 2-1. I get the feeling that XZB/GZ will win. SO, KOR must avoid to play this match....
masjoko 05-16-2008, 07:22 PM Hi, this is my 1st post. try to search for latest news on TC, and found this forum.
For not only did Indonesia and
Thailand lose their semi-final games (to Singapore and Vietnam,
respectively) but both were also fined $40,000 for "violating the spirit of
the game." Meanwhile Mursyid Effendi was banned for life.
guest what happen if both team want to lose during KOR - MAS match. the match will never ends! haha.
both player will try to give opponents points....
ye333 05-16-2008, 08:30 PM Well, my (wrong) judgement is based on
1. Your way of defending LD.
2. Your ID. It seems you understand Chinese.
Do a search on my previous posts, I don't support China all the time, it is only you who labeling me a Chinese supporter. Even when I clearly stated I support LHI during Korea Open. :(
ye333 05-16-2008, 08:31 PM I heard that it's 1992 TC.
This tactic is not invented by KoR. I remember INA used this tactic to China . I do not remember the exact year. China wanted to lose too but China won.
weeyet 05-16-2008, 09:13 PM Malaysia isn't ready to go beyond the semis.
-dave
Not to use this as an excuse, Rexy's original plan was using Fairzuzizuan/Zakry as MD1, and Koo Kien Keat/Choong Tan Fook as MD2
liying_0505 05-16-2008, 09:13 PM The Koreans seems to be in a very good form.
Honestly, I dunno which team should I support.
I never like China because of their arrogant Lin Dan & Li Yong Bo......
But....now, Korea use such dirty tactics in TC..... it made me so disappointed with them.... (I used to like the Korean players)....
However, here's my opinion:
Lin Dan - Park : 50-50
CY/FHF- LYD/JJS : 40:60
Bao CL - Lee HI : 40:60
GZD/XZB -HJM/LJJ : 45:55
Chen Jin - SSM : 60-40

Malaysian team doctor: Already discovered that the Chen Jin state has not informed Hafiz promptly
The Chinese team has met head-on the Malaysian team. In both sides fight after 2: 2, Chen Jin confronts Hafiz war in the fifth match, the competition carries on the second game, the Chen Jin waist wound recrudescence, moreover at that time the Hafiz score was in the lead. Under the field, other Malaysian player had already discovered Chen Jin presents the difference.
“At 12 point time, we already discovered that the Chen Jin waist had the problem. At that time Li Zongwei and Huang Zonghan shouted to Hafiz who competed to the field that wanted to let him know. Enables Hafiz as far as possible to socialize with Chen Jin, does not use the driving attack, so long as could transfer the match to be possible.”
The Malaysian team doctors said. At that time, Hafiz once by 13:8 was in the lead, this time Chen Jin appeared wounded and sick, is Malaysia's absolutely good opportunity to win. “But we indefinite on the court side instruct Misbun whether can hear our sound, the stadium was too noisy, we want to let Li Zongwei tell Misbun , but middle the competition carries on, anybody cannot approach the court.”The team doctor adds.
After the game, when reporter inquires Misbun by right should time whether to know when Chen Jin has the waist wound, Misbun nodded. Why presses again not when follows up a victory with hot pursuit wounded and sick using Chen Jin, Misbun reply: “Hafiz own speed has been too slow, Chen Jin slowed down the speed, but Hafiz was slower, therefore ......” the Misbun thought that Hafiz and the unsatisfactory performance has caused his defeat, “I was unsatisfied to his performance.”
Jasonvan 05-16-2008, 10:54 PM Basically was talking about MAS team finding out that CJ re-injured himself during the second set, and wanted to tell HH to prolong the rallies instead of attacking. Maybe Hafiz was happy that Chen Jin slowed down the match, but he didnt know about Chen's injury
Maybe Hafiz was happy that Chen Jin slowed down the match, but he didnt know about Chen's injury
According to one of the article I read, Misbun was aware and simply was not happy with Hafiz performance. Chen Jin slow down and Hafiz played even slower during that period of injury. Our failure mainly due to the lack of capable men's single, we need at least one more else the margin of victory is very narrow when facing top team.
jasonmarc 05-16-2008, 11:10 PM Guys...
What ever...it wont last till 3rd. MS........KOR may just finished CHN in 2nd MD......and the score will be 3 - 1....hehehehe :D
CJ have back injury.......i tot HH was beaten easily by CJ......so injury prone...

jamesd20 05-17-2008, 02:08 AM My Vote is for Korea, Purely on the strength of the MD. They will force CHN to win all three MS games.
On the Other Hand CHN force KOR to win both MD matches though, but I still think MD have high chance to take theirs.

i think its becoz of thir coach factor, HA TEA KWON!
eaglehelang 05-17-2008, 02:18 AM huh???...in badzine...misbun say that hafiz give his best of current form ler...
Ya kah? Maybe Misbun already cool down then. Misbun didnt say that to all the English & Malay press. He was disappointed, said that Hafiz 'wasnt fierce enuf' against CJ. Misbun knew head to head CJ had advantage, but wished Hafiz gave stiffer fight.
Misbun also got mixed feelings, one student won convincingly, another student also convincingly.... beaten by opponent.
pauline 05-17-2008, 02:41 AM Wow,the poll result is 50-50 now. I'm rooting for Korea, 2 strong MDs + 2 singles who are capable of beating China MS.

vching 05-17-2008, 08:16 AM My preliminary predictions are:
Lin Dan vs. Park Sung Hwan - Park to win. I've seen him and Lin play in the semifinals. Park much more convincing. Plus Lin Dan's air of invincibility has been shattered. And hes on a confidence low. Park is coming in after a title and an unbeaten streak. And the head to head record favors Park. Need I say more?
Cai/Fu vs. Jung/Lee - Jung and Lee to win. Seen them both play. Jung/Lee won their game by beating the World Champs and World Number 1. Cai/Fu won their game by Koo and Tan losing it. The extraordinary Lee Yong Dae is another major factor here. Watch out for Jung and Lee, if you haven't already. I think they are set to dominate the MD stage. Or at least Lee Yong Dae will, no matter who hes playing with.
Bao Chunlai vs. Lee Hyun Il - Seen them both play. Both impressive. But Hyun Il's win against Taufik was spectacular. Bao's win against Wong, was, well, a win. Nothing spectacular, good basics - groundstrokes, footwork, but cannot be compared with the, to quote Gillian Clark 'authoritative' performance by Hyun Il. Hyun Il was literally bossing the reigning Olympic Champion round the court, and there was little Istora Senayan could do about it.
Guo/Xie vs. Hwang/Lee - Guo and Xie were unconvincing on Friday. Clearly rattled, clearly not comfortable and crumbling under pressure. Have not seen Hwang and Lee play, but judging by past performances, Guo and Xie will be swept under the rug in this game, if it comes that far, which I doubt.
MS3 - No idea who is playing :).

Anyway, if the KOR squad does indeed win it, i'd say it's fine. Hey, they've been trying to reach the Final and win it all, so many times before; even resorted in using this strategy in the past. Hmmm, and if they do win this, i think they should give a big THANK YOU to the IBF/BWF for still keeping the current TC & UC system.

couldn't put it any better way myself. go china go!
hcpoirot 05-17-2008, 03:02 PM china still had the best chance to win tomorrow. Korea will not use a tactic losing to England if they thought they can beat China in semifinal. Instead they chose Indonesia.
Do not use the semifinal matches as the final judgement. Lee Hyun Il play very well , yes. But because Taufik is much slower now and did not had that powerful jumping smash anymore.
Side note: Indonesia really need to find one very good Ms and another good MD or else we will had the same dissaipointment again in 2010. Fourth time semifinalist.
The story will be different when LHI meet BCL.
The most important roles will be at Lin Dan hand. If he win tomorrow, China will win Thomas Cup in 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2.
If Lin Dan lost, china still had a chance to win this though with a 3-2.
LD - PSH 50:50
CY/FHF - JJS/LYD 50 : 50
BCL - LHI 55-45
MD 2 _ MD 2 45:55
CY/ CJ - SSM 60-40
And of course it all depend of the players mentality tomorrow, who crumbles first will lose.
hcpoirot 05-17-2008, 03:07 PM Talking about the consistency for all the players throughout this whole TC Final, no one else beside the Koreans.
It would be a huge surprise if Korean to lost in 0-3
I would not called Korea team had consistency. PSH lost to Peter gade right? And JJs/LYD lost to JR/LP right? If Kenneth did not had any injury, the story will become different. Denmark will win and make thru to SF and not Korea.
And it will not a suprise if China had a 3-0 win in final tomorrow. They had the players who had the skill to beat Korea. Korea is the team who had play the catch up here.
cooler 05-17-2008, 03:23 PM The most important roles will be at Lin Dan hand. If he win tomorrow, China will win Thomas Cup in 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2.
If Lin Dan lost, china still had a chance to win this though with a 3-2.
LD - PSH 50:50
CY/FHF - JJS/LYD 50 : 50
BCL - LHI 55-45
MD 2 _ MD 2 45:55
CY/ CJ - SSM 60-40
And of course it all depend of the players mentality tomorrow, who crumbles first will lose.
i agree.
i would re-rate the odds as:
LD - PSH 75:25 if possible in this event, ld would like to quash this itchy nemsis so he could just focus on lcw and Soni for the OG
CY/FHF - JJS/LYD 60 : 40 this is a testing ground for cy/fhf to show see if all the recent trainin0g are enough to the risng korean MD. cy/fhf will go full throttle to see how much they have or needed beat korea #1 MD. It was still be a close match, 3 sets. Of course, Korea MD want to redeem themself for losing to denmark
BCL - LHI 55-45 Both are peaking to toward august.
MD 2 _ MD 2 35:65
CY/ CJ - SSM 85-15 CJ is better than ssm in every department. No problemo
BMcentral 05-17-2008, 03:56 PM all of a sudden the KOE team become the underdog again, espically after all the hype and expectations.
BMcentral 05-17-2008, 03:58 PM BTW, there is no way CJ has a 85 percent advantage over SSM.
TranslatorGuy 05-17-2008, 04:35 PM Yay I tipped the scale to 50 : 50

jason_tiger 05-17-2008, 07:06 PM May you agree that the crucial point for Korea to have any chance to win over China is they must get one point from first two singles and rely on two doubles to get two points - Korea 2nd double has upper hand and China has better 3rd single, so the first 3 matches will decide who is going to win.
LD will bounce back strongly after defeat at semi, so Park is difficult to beat him really; LHI is a silent killer and I think he will beat Bao; so the decider will be based on 1st double, which is really a 50-50 match.

i did said that LD do have one of his off day now and then, but unlikely to have 2 in a row during a major tournament otherwise he couldn't be the world no 1 for so long. because of this i think he is definitely has the upper hand against PSH.
with 1-0 after the MS1 korea will have a mountain to climb. 3-0 to china is a very likely result.

korea hasn't done anything against the rules but just not good for badminton. blame the stupid rules, the only purpose for the 1st round is allow them to pick the next opponent. have to say that korea did it in a rather elegant way by swapping the MS & MD around.
to choose between a better chance to be in the final for the TC (that proven to be correct) or bad named badminton temporary (rules has to be changed for the next TC), it isn't really that difficult.
i'm sure both MAL and ENG had analysed and decided against it (i.e. to be at the bottom of the group), but what if 1 or both wanted the same? what fun to see everyone tried to lose!
ctjcad 05-18-2008, 01:01 AM in tc/uc, can a team coach elect different MS1, MD1, MS2, etc against each different country? EX: can china elect CJ or BCL as MS1 against korea even tho lin dan was MS1 against MAL?
..yes they can and it's totally independent of what the other team is playing. But if they do so, they have to go by the players' ranking in determining the rest of the lineup. So, if CHN fielded BCL as MS1, then MS2 will be CJ and then MS3 will be CY; all based on BWF's ranking.;)
FYI, PSH has good record against LD and that's why people are confident predicting.
..if not mistaken LD has a better head to head record than LCW. Yet, we all saw what happened in their Semifinal match.;)

As Wong8Egg mentioned, PSH has better H2H against LD including 2 wins in MO & CO last year.
Plus, LD was beaten by LCW convincingly in the SF and PSH will very likely beat LD in again with the support from the crowd...
From the positive side, LD desperately want to redeem himself after the loss to LCW. It would be a disaster for LD & CHN if LD were to lose again to PSH.
It is normal for fans to protect their countrymen. But this is just the predictions. I still remembered that some CHN fans predicted that CHN would thrash MAS in 3-0 but everyone knows how the results turned out...

victory 05-18-2008, 03:46 AM Korea has slight advantage! The key matches are LD vs PSH and Bao vs LHI. Both matches are 50:50. Chinese MD don't have high chance. LD skill is ok but if he exibits that kind of lousy fighting spirit like in semi he will be in trouble. PSH is a tough nut to crack. He is tons of fighting spirit and mental strenght. so is LHI.

LD had a day off against LCW. I am afraid PSH will be crushed.
Plus, i'm not sure but i don't remember that Bao has lost a match in team event as second MS.
I really think that MD1 is 60-40 for China. On contrary, MD2 is a sure win for Korea.
For me the only configuration for Korea to have a chance will be LHI in MS1 and PSH in MS2. Then score maybe 3-1 for Korea.
Anyway, i don't care who wins, don't really like both team (except LHI and HJM & LJJ)
