View Full Version : Singapore Badminton Open 2008: Day 1, Tuesday June 10th
chris-ccc 06-09-2008, 03:18 PM .
Greetings,
In just a few hours, Day 1 of the Singapore Badminton Open 2008 will begin with its Qualifying Rounds.
For the Mens Singles, many are hoping for participants, Kuan Beng Hong, Jan O Jorgensen, Poompat Sapkulchananari, Mohd Arif Abdul Latif, Gong Weijie, Tommy Sugiarto, etc... could make it into the Main Draw. However, only 4 would be able to do so.
For the Womens Singles, Lydia Cheah should be able to make it into the Main Draw.
We hope to receive some reports from BC members who will be there on Day 1.
Cheers... chris@ccc

CLELY 06-09-2008, 11:18 PM The qualification round today will search 8 qualifiers from MS and WS to enter main draw tomorrow. At this moment Germany WS player, Nicole Grether has secured one place.
Who are the 4 MS you predict will enter the Main Draw?

CLELY 06-10-2008, 12:00 AM Who are the 4 MS you predict will enter the Main Draw?
Two or three Malaysian players have bright chance to cruise into main draw as third round of qualification will decide them :
Q1 -- Tang Kirt Soon (SIN) vs Kuan Beng Hong (MAS)
Q2 -- Poompat Sapkulchananart (THA) vs Mohd Arif Abdul Latif (MAS)
Q3 -- Tan Chun Seang (MAS) vs Andreas Adityawarman (INA)
Q4 -- Allan Tai (MAS) vs Hans-Kristian Vittinghus (DEN)

Not easy to beat the CHN & KOREAN MS future prospect in 2 hours time
Poompat is trying very hard to catch his compatriots Tanongsak's achievement in beating TH by destroy Arif hopes in the place of main draw :(

CLELY 06-10-2008, 02:41 AM Andreas Adityawarman lost to MAS talented youngster Tan Chun Seang, 21-23 ; 16-21. Next at main draw, Tan will get tough opponent Danish veteran Peter Gade, one interesting match...

Not easy to beat the CHN & KOREAN MS future prospect in 2 hours time
Poompat is trying very hard to catch his compatriots Tanongsak's achievement in beating TH by destroy Arif hopes in the place of main draw :(
By looking at the score, our KuanBH looks very impressive and lethal. Lets see how he fares in the main draw... hopefully... err.... :p
ronnie14 06-10-2008, 03:04 AM come on kuan beng hong ;)
Two Malaysian MS players got through the Main Draw leaving poor Arif behind. It was not easy to defeat Thailand's No 2, Poompat SAPKULCHANANART who triumphed in straight games of 21-19, 21-16.
'Veteran' Kuan Beng Hong made mince meat of 'greenhorn' Tang Kirt Soon of Singapore. The remaining slot went to Denmark's stocky Hans-Kristian VITTINGHUS who beat Malaysia's Allan TAI 21-16, 21-18.
Tan Chun Seang managed to defeat Indonesia's Andreas ADITYAWARMAN
23-21, 21-16 in 32 min. Tan was more spirited and his will to win was clearly demonstrated.
In the WS, Indonesia's Pia Zebadiah BERNADET joined Germany's Nicole GRETHER after a rubber game against Korea's Kim Moon Hi 17-21, 21-16, 21-14. Two Singapore girls, Gu Juan and Fu Mingtian accompanied them to the main draw.
Of note is that Fu managed to eliminate Denmark's 2nd seed, Camilla SORENSEN 16-21, 21-19, 21-16. Camilla, who resembles Tine Rasmussen as one fan commented, played well in the first game but faltered in the second and final games on the lack of stamina. Fu was more patient and played longer rallies, unlike in her first game.
badMania 06-10-2008, 03:32 AM Not bad, Pia Bernadet Zebadiah has progressed to the main-draw after surviving a tough match against Kim Moon Hi. She faces a manageable tie against Charmaine Reid tomorrow. I think she can earn herself 3600 pts this week.
chris-ccc 06-10-2008, 05:13 AM 'Veteran' Kuan Beng Hong made mince meat of 'greenhorn' Tang Kirt Soon of Singapore.
.
Kuan Beng Hong winning with (21-6, 21-7), (21-15, 21-12) and (21-3, 21-3).
Just reading from the scores, it appears that Kuan Beng Hong was playing at his best, regardless with whom he was playing against. This is a good sign. Hope that he could continue with this concentration, playing in the Main Draw.
:):):)

It is great to see that Fu Mingtian is specialising in Singles from now on and is doing well. I think she is one of Singapore's most determined players.

Well Chris, the next round for Beng Hong is quite a different kettle of fish.
For this young 'veteran' will be up against a wiser and very patient 'elderly veteran' compatroit by the name of Roslin Hashim. Unless Kuan quickens his pace, be much more aggressive and yet not making many unforced errors as he has shown today, his older ex-team mate will unlikely allow him the luxury of time to execute his favourite strokes.
So far, it looks like nobody has yet given Kuan any hope if the PAW game is of any guide. Despite being given a hefty 20 points for winning against Roslin's 5, no PAWer yet dared to bet on Kuan.

Loh ... You are correct. KBH and RH know each other's games well. :p:p:p
It is unfortunate that they have to play each other in Round 1. :( And I think RH has an advantage over KBH tomorrow.

extremenanopowe 06-10-2008, 07:55 AM Wow, interesting game. It just shows that even at such a high level, there are still many different level or gaps between international player. Those who are at the bottom, happy climbing...:D
eaglehelang 06-10-2008, 08:41 AM hiyaaa, Arif lost to Pompat. Having to play 3 matches in a day after playing in Sukma last week have been too tiring for him.
Also Lydia lost in WS qualifiers, another case of Sukma fatigue?
And congrats to TCS for beating China's Gong, Korea Hong JH (is he the 4th MS at TC finals?) & Indonesia's young Andreas. Hope he puts up a good fight against PG tomm.
Btw, any one of you know how old is this Allan Tai? early 20s?
