View Full Version : Will LCW be World #1 ....

If LCW wins this SO (most likely) and the upcoming IO (if he doesn't withdraw), will LCW be the World #1 in MS?

As we all know that LD is not participacing in these two events, that means LD cannot gain more points (or will lose some points ?)...

Someone please confirm, thanks.

no...lee chong wei will be 6121 points behind lin dan

even if LCW win both SO and IO ???
I thought LCW will replace LD's position as #1 after IO (if he manage to win both titles).

Currently, LD's points is 86280 and LCW's is 79599. The differece is 6681 points. If your calculation is right, just wonder why the point diference is still so far (almost no change) --- 6891 (now) and 6121 (after).

Anyway, thanks for your calculation.

lin dan did not get any points in last year's singapore open and did not compete in the indonesia open....therefore he wont lose any points.. if lee chong wei wins the singapore open .. he will get 9200 points and that will deduct from the 6420 points he got last year for reaching a semifinals..that means he will earn 2780..he will be 3901 points behind lin dan..sorry.. i calculated wrongly..

LCW will not be world number even if he wins both (Singapore and Indonesia).

But if he wins either one or both, he will be 2780 (9200-6420) pts closer to LD.

In any sports, being world number 1 means something.
For example: "something to proud of", "the best", "top achievement", "being more famous", etc (maybe extra money/salary for players in certain countries ;)).

It will be more meaningful if LCW be world #1 when he wins a host of big titles like Olympic gold, WC, AE, etc rather than be ranked #1 for a few weeks.

Not salary, quarterly bonus, but still pending for some of 2007's one (i.e. havent pay). Anyway, no hurry, only the fan 'kan cheong'

I rather Chong Wei remain in world#2.It will be most meaningful and memorable if he wins the Olympic gold in Beijing despite being the World#2.
What's the point of being world#1 with the hugh pressure on your shoulder?

But if he wins either one or both, he will be 2780 (9200-6420) pts closer to LD.
Some correction:

if LCW wins either one, he will be 2780 (9200-6420) pts closer to LD.

Since points for IO2007 has been deducted and the lowest two in the best 10 are currently 6420 and 6420, he will be 2780 + 2780 = 5560 pts closer to LD if LCW wins both.

Yes, world number two is good enough for LCW to have "favorable" draw in Beijing.

yalo... he's dam good against peter gade yesterday.. if he can maintain the form till the OG, he sure can win gold.

Just 1 thing can he maintain his form? or will he crumble under pressure or Lin Dan goes to an even higher level of play(hope not:D) let's see

World Ranking doesnt guarantee a GOLD medal, but only good seedings to avoid the top guns. LCW is not too concerned whether he is No.1 or No2, as long as he avoid LinDan prior to the final. That's the bottom line.

Federer still No.1 but Nadal has been winning lately ;)

Yes, LCW won the SO yesterday.

Yes, he thrashed his opponent in the final yesterday.

Yes, LCW have been showing good form of late.

... BUT shall we hold the Malaysia Boleh champagne until we get our hands on that gold in Beijing??

Though I am happy to see LCW taking the SO, I must say with the big guns missing, LCW ought win the SO as the world #2, which he did.

We need to be clear here that winning the SO with a relatively easy field and taking that MS gold in Beijing are absolutely two different matter. In Beijing, the big guns will be there. So, lets chill that Boleh champagne, hold back that Malaysia Boleh marching band at least until the Olympics.

Lets aim for the big titles.

Offer if MAS win the gold???

Hmmm ... let me approach it this way; I think it will be a curse to Msian badminton if we win a gold in Beijing. Why??? Because I think the celebrations, the politicians, the rewards, and all other things bout Malaysia Boleh may set Msian badminton back another 15 years.

What comes to mind will be another repeat of our TC win in 92. What happened to our shuttlers and badminton after that win??? Our badminton fortunes went downhill and our shuttlers (some) went bankrupt.

So, I dont know. Winning that first gold for the country is good on one hand but when the Malaysia Boleh razzmatazz come into play, it will be a big negative to Msian badminton in general.

In the modern sports, it's all about winning. Greece ran away with the Euro2004 and it was a fluke... but who cares? the Euro medal still safe n sound in their trophy room...

The same goes for JXP... OK, LCW will win OG08 GOLD in style n maturity.:p

I love it when people talk about football. Its my bread n butter.

Greece 2004 was a fluke??? Dude, have you actually watched Euro 2004?? Greece then played efficient defensive football and hit their opponents in fast counter attack moves. It was no fluke. And by the way, Greece top their qualifying group for Euro2008.
