For a long long time, Simon's gonna have nightmares featuring this match ;)
Mention "Lee Chong Wei" or "Singapore Open 2008" and he might collapse!
Will he be another Kuan Beng Hong. :D... who suffered a nitemare too in TC06 against JP :o
i wonder what LCW said to SS... what can he say??

Lee Chong Wei must be one of the favorites for the Beijing Olympics, alongside Lin Dan. Bao Chunlai and Chen Jin would be one rung below him in terms of chances. As for the rest, I don't think they will stand a chance (including INA's own Taufik Hidayat and Sony Dwi Kuncoro).

At this age, LCW is at peak now. Good to win all he can. 1-2 more years at the top, if he can keep up the fitness and speed.

So far agreed on the top 4 in OG. Unless one of them got whacked by someone in the early rounds. Pressure on the local boys will sure creep into them. Not good to be top seed in OG though! Not good fung shui so far.

Shd let LCW go and enjoy drilling and keeping in touch there. Match fitness is important to keep in touch with tournament. Or maybe go for the Thai Open instead if IO skipped. Step up a gear when OG is on.

Indonesia really need to pull up their collective socks if they are to make any impression in the MS at either the Indonesia Open or at the Olympic Games.
Lin Dan, Lee Chong Wei and, maybe, Bao Chunlai or Peter Gade are already ahead in the queue for the three Olympic medals :)
The question is: is there any room left for the Indonesian MS players?

One could, of course, discount Lee Chong Wei's victory at the Singapore Open by saying that he won against a truly depleted field.
Such an argument would also be, in my opinion, a valid one.
Except for Peter Gade, the line-up here would constitute pre-quarter fodder at, say, the All England Open :p
However, what would still remain is the fact that he is in cracking form.
In this tournament, he has displayed some truly awesome badminton.
If he continues in this vein, the Olympics can't be too high a target ;)

Greetings,
You don't know how thankful I am to you BCers for making your posts/reports, especially abedeng, who was reporting from courtside. :):):)
Just returned home from almost a whole day of Badminton and the first thing I did was to read this thread; to find out how our finalists have played today, not just who have won and their scores. Thanks again for your reports.
Fuzzy guys won 21-18, 21-17. Scoreline is close, but not the match. One pair clearly superior over the other.
Yes, I thought they could win because they have shown to be a bit steadier than their opponents. And from reports that their smashes were great today, Gan/Lin would have found it even harder to challenge them.
Tine Rasmussen wins her 3rd SS titles this year as she beat Zhou Mi 21-19, 21-17. She will be China's greatest obstacle to a Women's Singles Gold Medal in Beijing.
This really shows that TR is getting better and better as the Beijing Olympics approaches.
ZM, two crucial mistakes at 18-18 and 18-19 cost her the 2nd set.
but overall, Tine has mostly the upper hand with her speed and power. Zhou Mi might be the most powerful WS player behind Tine.
Tine Rasmussen beat Zhou Mi 21-19 / 21-17
:D:D:D Hahaha ...
TR has now made a statement: "Watch out for me at the Beijing Olympics 2008 !!!". :D:D:D
Du/Yu squeak it out 21-19 in the 2nd. A lot of PAWers are happy
Yes, Cheng/Chien usually find it harder to play against CHN WD players.
21-17 Clark & Kellogg have the first game :)
chris, are you worried yet? :p
Oldhand ... Yes, I was a bit worried after Clark & Kellogg won the first game.
And kwun 's comments that LN was a bit slow and dreamy, made me even more worried. :D:D:D
17-21, 21-14, 21-9 - the result goes against my prediction :(
Rather, Donna Kellogg's innumerable errors let me down.
chris@ccc has every reason to smile!
And sure enough, NW/LN came back in the 2nd and the 3rd game. Perhaps, DK was more tired than LN at the end of the match.
Like a mangy dog, Simon is finally put out of its misery. LCW whips Simon 21-13, 21-5.
In the second game, just like most BCers, I was so surprised that LCW could have devastated SS with such a big lead in the scoreline. Lin Dan would now be more worried. :):):)
I think it's great that Misbun has suggested for LCW not to play in the IO 2008 next week.
Btw, while the SO 2008 was being played today, I was with the Singapore National Under-15 Singles Champion who is visiting Melbourne at the moment. He turned up our our CCC Badminton Club for some training and some sparring/games. :):):)
When asked why he didn't want to watch the SO 2008, he said "Because so many big names pulled out of the tournament". :D:D:D
And so ... we have come to the end of the SO 2008. We shall be looking forward to the IO 2008 next week.
Cheers... chris@ccc

Now 19-9. Make it matchpt.

Even her coach had warned her not to do it again....she should go to anger management...her coach was not impressed with her attitudes on court today...
Firstly she purposely step on shuttle and ruined it , then also she threw away the shuttle after losing points ( after 11)....

I would say that Anthony Clark also lacked professionalism to a certain extent, deliberately playing mind-games (not sure whether he did that today as I had no access to live-streaming). One example was: fiddling around with the shuttle-cock, requesting for a change when he thought it was too heavy or too light (see the World Championships 2006 vs Kido/Hendra).
I think Flandy/Vita also underestimated this aspect when Anthony Clark deliberately delayed play (for a long time, again due to shuttlecock issue) in the beginning of their match in the Swiss-Open this year.
I prefer watching Nathan Robertson/Gail Emms.

Well, IMHO there are a couple of BCers in this forum who's yet to be convinced by that :o
Fanatic supporters are always around. You are right in saying there are some BCers who's yet to be convinced by the achievement and abilities of LCW. In fact I will go one step further to say these people have conditioned their mind and deliberately deny one awesome player like LCW just because they support other players and they don't want to lose face, so to speak. They will never admit it but everyone in the forum can see. Don't be bothered by that.
Congratulations to all winners! LCW is in fine form. He is in right direction to challenge the Olympic gold metal. I am also very delighted by the first break through of Zakry /Tazari. Hope this will motivate them to better in future.
Besides this SS we also see some bright spark in MAS youngsters . Tan Chun Siang gave PG a go run for his money and took one set. Latif/Tan Wee kiong eliminated Go Zengdong/ Xie Zongbo!! Brilliant! Malaysian MD have upcoming pairs to rely on when Chong/Tan retire after Olympic.

After losing a point during the WD quarter-finals, Donna Kellogg threw her racquet high into the air
Had she then not stepped off court and caught it before it hit the ground, it might have landed somewhere near or inside the adjacent court. Possibly because the match on the next court had ended a few minutes earlier, she was let off without a warning.
It was a shocking display of immaturity from someone who's hardly a debutante ;)

Actually LCW was really kind to JP. LCW played slow-motion badminton to give JP some chance to get points. The longest rally was probably 7 shots. Most of the time, it was 1,2,3 or 1,2,3,4 depending on who served. Two years ago, in WC06, JP believed he could defeat LCW.In SO QF here,JP lost through sheer fear.He just did not know how to play. Whereas LCW played real badminton with SS, esp. merciless in G2 to stop SS from having false hopes.

Just got back. My take on the comments.
Yup, I agree that jimbo will not get a point off LCW no matter if he does jumping smash at frontcourt until his racquet breaks .....
Yup, we agree that Tine is the major threat to CHN and possible co-favourite at Olympics alongside XXF. ZM and WMC provided credible challenge, and little Saina was a revelation.
Yup, we at the stadium agreed that Donna behaved badly, even Clark was cross with her. Clearly seen on court. Next time Loh must PAW on personality and sportsmanship criteria.
Yup, we agree that LCW was playing well, but MS final became the least interesting match to me. Hau-ge, can u find out what happened to Simon?
No, I don't agree with the view that going to tournaments require lots of money, more like you have to plan and budget accordingly. This is about passion, not money. A passionate man will do anything to reach his goal.
I think the confidence in LCW is so high now, he can play LD left hand and still wins.
I hope he has not peaked too soon before the Beijing Olympics.
Not doubt he met with not much opposition during the SO. Even the two early rubber matches he encountered were soon 'exposed' in the deciders in that he totally overwhelmed his opponents. One could even say he "toyed" with them before knocking them out.
And LCW should also remember not to let wicked overconfidence to play against him. ;)

[...]LCW toyed Persson like a monkey in the court...
Uncle Oldhand, quarrel & argue not same meaning meh? hmm......
Not at all, eagle... one can surely argue without quarrelling :p
To argue is to present one's case with evidence, logic or both.
To quarrel is to cloud one's case with anger and irrelevant bloat.
Good arguments never lead to quarrels... they lead to solutions.
That's why courtrooms require arguments to be put forward.
The next time someone argues with you, ask yourself: "Am I getting angry?"
If you are, it's more than just likely that your position is in the wrong :o
"The moment we want to believe something, we suddenly see all the arguments for it, and become blind to the arguments against it."
I didn't say that.

From a neutral viewpoint, I agree with this statement. LCW's current ranking comes from consistency in reaching the semifinals and finals of major tournaments. On average, only two (or is it three) players show the same consistency. It is hardly LCW's fault that those other players are not playing. IN the records and when we look back in future years, LCW will be regarded as the winner. Not as "LCW was the winner because such and such a person were not playing".

A win is a win...LCW has won it in convincing style...It is always been not easy to win as top seed and favourites...especially in this SO where so many upsets and unexpected results occured.

This victory, although within a crippled draw, shouldn't be decried as an easy one.
If nothing, it's certainly a measure of what Lee Chong Wei can achieve ahead.
If he didn't have 'worthy opponents' at the Singapore Open, how could that be his fault? Should these worthies have wanted to challenge him, they could have walked in. After all:
1. The Singapore tournament is an "open" event
2. The prize-money is among the best on the circuit
3. The line-judging is not, er, patriotically calibrated
4. Singapore is a safe and exciting sporting environment
If his opposition chose to hide or stay away or not turn up or skip it or withdraw or take rest (call it whatever you want), why should that detract from the glaringly obvious fact that Lee Chong Wei is in top form? ;)
whatever

CHN team strategy is very simple: They will maximise (in fact, they had) the number of entries for each category. Each of them (3 for each category for MS and WS) will clear the path for each other, or tired their opponents whenever facing their teamates the next round. If needed, LYB will "force" his player to march off with "fake injury" so that the favorable player will advance and eventually win the GOLD.
So, expect XXF, ZN and LL to square off with Tine. It will be 3 vs 1. The same goes for WS. CHN will hv LD, BCL and CJ will fence off LCW... so, 3 vs 1 again...
Isnt that simple? I aint Einstein :D But I still want LCW to win the GOLD for us... Msia Boleh...!!!

And also whether XXF can completely recover from her elbow 'injury' which was bandaged in ice after her UC victory in Jakarta.
However, I also hope TR will peak during the Beijing Olympics, not before, not after!

it depends how much fuel subsidy u guys are demanding:p
Out of topic--learnt from today's newspaper,by the end of the day,RM116.7 mil had been reimbursed to the motorists for the fuel subsidy rebates.
Anyway, prize money is not the main concern. It is the nation's pride at stake.
LCW will go all out to win the first ever gold for MAS.Nothing is more memorable than winning the country's first ever Olympic gold medal.OG gold...and history will remember him for long time.Hope to see that in Aug'08.:)

And LCW should also remember not to let wicked overconfidence to play against him. ;)
The only overconfidence exuded is by me not LCW, he is still talking about focusing and be not condescending to opponents. He is a real sport.

Donna played well at the beginning and Butet was terrible. As the game wore on the roles became reversed. Donna disintegrated (hence the sucky attitude) and Butet, undeterred, went from strength to strength. That's the mark of a champion.
Yup...Clark was quite sporting...apologizing for tapping into opponent's body.
but Donna has anger management problem ....stomping on a shuttlecock and willfully delaying of game..

Nothing beats Indonesian supporters. The closest feeling that i got to Istora.. you will be suprised.. its the Filipino Crowd in Philippines. Provided their heroes and heroine is on court. I can imagine if they have ranked players who is like the INAs and Msians. The environment will be electrifying and you can feel the positive energy/vibration flowing. No amount of Phiten's or Titanium products can match it.
Indonesia and filipino looks the same!
Indonesia and filipino looks the same!
Malaysian also looks the same.. but i dont think Malaysians can match their intencity.

Madbad, you're making the female BC members annoyed. "That time" or not, still professional wan.
And LCW should also remember not to let wicked overconfidence to play against him. ;)
If the post-match interviews are anything to go by, he's not over confident at all. Says there's still much to improve on before Beijing.

In the midst of talk on LCW, Donna Kellog's on court behaviour, perhaps now we can discuss a little bit abt the pair that caused upsets, and no it's not the MD.
THe Thailand young XD pair Songphon/Kunchara catch my eye. They surprised all by beating Limpele/Marissa in Round 1. The blond haired Songphon & MD partner also beat Lars/Jonas later that day.
Went on to Semis bf they got packed by NOva/Liliyana. Anyone know anything abt them ?
Songphon played in TC finals I think with the big sized guy.

Well maybe that's the only acceptable excuse. They call it mood swings and we had a sample of the bad swing that late afternoon! :p

Highlights:
The Mens doubles were expected that Fuzzy(Fairuz and Zakry) will win. Not much to comment.
The ladies singles were quite good actually. Zou Mi fought neck to neck with Tine...I am surprise Zou Mi can smashed pretty hard and caught Tine by surprise. But Tine's strength and reach won the game. Tine has a habit of touching her soles after every point.
The ladies Doubles...no doubt....the China Smashing Sisters:) simply overpowered their Taiwanese opponents by their hard hitting amortec 900 technique.
Mixed doubles good game...England lose out by Donna's mistakes. Match turned ugly a bit.
Men's singles...as expected LCW to win in straight sets. But a bit humilating to watch in the 2nd set if you are an Indonesian supporter.
