Just wanted to know how many people broke a MP100

Please post when, where, and how your MP100 broke... also how long you have had it.

Mine broke at the UC Davis 2002 Spring Open. It was during the CMD quarter-finals, midgame. A lot of racquet clashes and mis hits that day... I had to switch back to my Iso Ti Swing Power SS, had a hard time adjusting but won the match. Later on I broke my Iso Ti strings, my friends Iso Ti strings, and my AB 900 strings... now I am broke, atleast I got first place :p
I had mine for about 2 weeks...

wow, that is one battle story worth telling to grand childs about.
mp100 is quite stable when not involved in clashes.

Have strung many SP, CD and GR mp100's, all 2u.
Only the 1 SP broke todate, 25lb, involved in a major clash in MD. Broke in 3 pieces.
Not saying SP is bad, it was the unlucky one that got into a clash.

I believe 1 of the main reasons why MP100s break alot is because most of us have the 3U version which is significantly lighter than the 2U version.

Down here in Singapore, until recently, MP100 was only available in the 2U version. So all of us down here at Badminton Central Singapore who use an MP100 have not broken it. This is with some exceptions 2 actually that broke due to defects.

5 of us here have MP100s and after weekly play, 3 of them are intact.

1 of our members broke an MP100 just after 1 day?? Can't remember, wasn't there that session but that MP100 was bought in Bangkok and was a 3U version.

Even then, i had an MP55 that was bought in Thailand as well, 2U but it broke in a very perculiar way. So my conclusion is that either the quality control is not as strict, or its the weight.

Byro what racquet do you use nowadays? I recall reading that you were playing with MP-55.... but now that it's broken.. (Is it broken because it's TH???)

i just broke one its the first time i used it too it split at the 12 o clock position and was only strung at 24 pounds!! what a waste of money!

i broke a MP100 2U CP once. but it was out of frustration and anger and i whacked it to the ground. i guess CPs are not as strong as i thought...

most of my previous yonex rackets are 'sp' and they all break at the 12 o clock position would this be a stringing fault or a manufacture one? i have a uk carbonex 21 which has lasted me 5 years of abuse

I have broken 2 MP100's.
Both were 2U SP versions with HK serial numbers.

I broke the first one after stringing it at 26 lbs.
I discovered the crack when I took it home after the stringing.
It cracked at the 2 o'clock position.
Was about 5-6 months old.

The second one had a defect that I did not notice when I bought it.
I noticed it about 3-4 weeks after buying the racket.
There was a hairline crack (very tiny ~3-5mm) at the 12 o'clock position.
A friend broke it at that exact position after a smash.
Was less than 3 months old.
It was strung at about 24 lbs.

Since then, I have sworn never to buy MP100s ever again! :D

i broke my mp100 in a double's racket clash and broke it at the 9 and 12 o'clock position....
interesting thing is that I've notice that YONEX uses a sheet of plastic to fill the "hollow" part inside the frame....

Like Mongoose, I broke my 2U MP100 SP version that has HK serial numbers.
I had it for almost a year! Strung it always at 25x24lbs.
It broke at the shaft, about 1cm below the frame....

It's really confusing and misleading sometimes when pple say the broke a MP100 but never mention whether it's 2U/3U and what version it is!!

He's using Cab 20 Tours nowadays....
Uses the Ti-10 and MP100 as well....
And yes, his MP55 is a SP version with TH serial numbers!

I'm not sure I quite understand... so on SP versions theres still serial numbers?

So I can get a SP version with CD on the serial code?

Or is it all TH and HK etc. racquets are SP?

I think TH, HK and others are all generalised under SP.

Sorry I'm still kinda lost... (I'm slow in the head :( ) heh.... You're saying... serial codes with HK , TH on it has to have on it.

But... GR / CD / US / JP etc. will not?

hi all,
I had a mp100 and cracked it after one month. It was strung with bg65 at 24lb and cracked on the side of the head. I was pretty pissed off but I know the country distributor and got a replacement for free so it's all good now. My replacement has held up find for 3 months now although I only use it for doubles, I use a mp77 for singles.

As modious has said, i'm using a Cab20 now. Cab20 Original and Cab20 Tour Special. Occasionally my MP100 and MP77 as well. But my Cab20s are my favourites now.

I've only ever had 1 TH racket but i do believe that quality control plays a big part in my MP55 incident.

G'day,

Just broke my MP100SP 2U that I brought from a good member of this forum. It was my fault as I smacked it to the ground in sheer frustration.

Had for exactly 6 days before I killed it... and just as I was starting to get use to it. It is so much faster, agile and controllable than MP77, only weaker in outright power....Probably because it is not as head heavy as the MP77.

Lesson well learnt - Never lose temper no matter how bad things go - or your wallet will suffer!!

Question is - is there any way of salvaging the racket? It has 2 small cracks, at 1 and 7 O clock position...put some resin to fill the crack? Don't mind keeping it for mucking about with minimal string tension....
