Yao Jie is playing with injury and Zhou Mi probably has no more staminas after playing tight rubber against HHY the day before. Still a nice win for Maria though.
Hopefully she can add Zhang Ning to her list of scalps for this tourney.

No doubt Maria is doing great. But I would be careful about the "earthquake" statement. It is equivalent to calling another "tsunami" in Indonesia.

Maria's success is overdue. It is not too far fetched to say that she has a chance against Zhang Ning.

All she needs is to believe in herself, and extend the rallies longer .......

She did played well. But her opponents is having injury and stamina problems. I hope she will do well against ZN and take advantage of the crowd support.

I heard exactly the same comment today from Sony's club-boss, Pak Yacob. :) Maria needs to believe in herself...

Maria Kristin has reached her target to enter semifinal spot in this tourney. It's an uphill task to overcome a very experience player with good achievement like Zhang Ning but anything is still possible. Head-to-head record based on BWF website : Zhang Ning - Maria Kristin -- 1 : 0, Maria lost to Zhang Ning at R/16 World Championship 2007, 10-21 ; 9-21.

I think Maria has ability and good skill. Main problem of Indonesia gals is they always feel inferior than Chinese players. Susi Susanti successed to change their mind set that nothing is impossible, altough China still unbeatable in Uber Cup. However, now they can boost up self motivation to win.

Another think, Indonesian gals always think that they are number two, comparing with Indonesian men's players, and support either from PBSI and Indonesian supporter itself were not full. Based on Uber Cup performance, and see the recent condition, PBSI more attention with gals players, and see the bigger opportunity than men's players. Indonesian supporters also give full support now to Indonesian players. They are happy to see good and fighting performance from the gals. I really hope they can maintain their high spirit and make other good result in tournaments. I think in Indonesia SS, they have proved it. I believe one day Indonesian gals will wake up from their long sleep....

Pelatnas Setup:
Marleve Mainaky handles the WS dept. And before that, Hendrawan. Hendrawan is now in charge of Sony Dwi Kuncoro and Simon Santoso. Mulyo Handoyo handles Taufik Hidayat.

In the MD, Sigit Pamungkas and Herry IP are the coaches. In the WD and XD, Aryono Minarat, Richard Mainaky and Yanty Kusmiati are the coaches.

As for Fang Kaixiang, he's in charge of the Djarum squad (MS and WS I believe). Denny Kantono and Antonius are in charge of the doubles.

Good for Maria that she's finally able to have a breakthrough tournament. I actually prefer Firda's attacking game than Maria's game. But she did play inspiring game throughout the UC and with a boasted confidence, I guess she's able to play better now. I think she peaks at about the right time, just before Olympics. A dangerous floater for sure.

Honestly, as I wrote about the earthquake, I DID NOT, not once, even think about the real earthquake just happened in China (I know about the earthquake in ChengDu). In my mind was kinda "lets shock the chinese girls", nothing else.

So, I think, it is now clear who actually has negative thinking and who actually has provocate thoughts. Just dont have this negative thinking guys, I think it is kinda asian mentality, but in my opinion it is not a good stuff.

Susi Susanti successed to change their mind set that nothing is impossible, altough China still unbeatable in Uber Cup. However, now they can boost up self motivation to win.

I think this inferiority complex applies not only to the Indonesian girls but to many of their other Asian counterparts in the past as well. Now INA girls have shown that they can be equally as good, if not better, and this augurs well for the future. Non-China women players will now think differently that it is possible to beat the best China women in both singles and doubles if they set their minds to it.

China's domination in the women's department is now cracking and I hope the forth-coming Beijing Olympics will witness more upsets even though China has "home advantage". Coaches of non-China women's team must now instill in their charges that nothing is impossible as what Susi Susanti has etched in the minds of her girls. ;)

I think Tine definitely opened the way for non-CHN female players last year when she won her maiden super series title in Japan. So a lot of credit must go to her. BUt for INA team, definitely the Susi factor ...

China womens players already cracked when Wong Mew Choo and Tine manage to stomped them during tournaments before. And not forgetting that China almost lose in Uber Cup against Holland.
As for Maria .. she need to prove herself in overseas tournaments. At least in INA.. the crowd is with her. She need to be tested overseas. But i'm sure she will have a bright future ahead.

When against offensive players she gave tough fight.
She ever beat Lu Lan, Zhang Ning, Zhou Mi, Yao Jie, Pi HY also almost beat Tine Rasmussen in SC.

Maria played realllly well. She dared herself to push her stamina at max. "Gotta dare to be worn out when meeting a Chinese player," she said when she just won over ZM and asked about her strategy to meet with ZN.

In the final, ZL actually had run out her breath totally in the second set. She was all pale and asking too much "time delays" in between points -- she finally got a yellow card for this. Her face was all sweaty like rain! MK's ball positioning was definitely awesome. She pushed ZL to move around to all points on the court.

But too bad for MK, her injury made the knee unable to hold her body, thus, she did a lot of splits instead of running in steps.

"I was tired, but not exhausted or worn out," she said. "It's the knee [injury] that held me back from moving around."

Looks like the special 'stamina training menu' for MK did well. Her stamina improved a lot compared to INA Open last year. But too bad her injury kept her from doing the best performance yesterday.

"In previous matches, I could still hold my body with my thigh, but today my thigh was already tired too," she added.

She even said that she was optimistic towards the Olympics although she did mention she needs to work out her feet [injury].

All of the above I heard during her interview after the match :)

ctjcad
06-23-2008, 01:32 AM
...perhaps her knee/feet injury could be a result of her lack of footwork training/technique??..

sayakeren
06-23-2008, 02:03 AM
Probably. She looked a bit 'slow' in movement (although most of the time she took the birdie with shrieks from the audiences who thought she wouldn't make it), but overall I saw her footwork is not bad. Many INA players get injury though - I hope that's not because of the wrong training menu at pelatnas...

A bit OOT, I think Simon's FW is worse...he often got his feet strangled, and late in restoring his position; that really cost him a lot points for Sony.

Note: you know that research have found that Olympic Bronze Medalists in sports that have knock out rounds are more often happier than the Silver Medalists...
