i juz cant understand!!!
why everytime malaysia fuzzy pair takes points, the INA fans will boo them??:mad::rolleyes::rolleyes:
there is no sportsmanship at all!!!
eventhough they always boo fuzzy pair, but luckily fuzzy pair can deal with the situation and not get panic and eventually win the game and title!!!:)
i'm asking the same question!!!
even when they announced the MAS pairs' name in the prize-giving ceremony,
fuzzy received boos and jeers from the crowd
fairuz n zakry didnt look like celebrating much on the podium
kinda sad
it was a hard-fought match and the winner really2 deserved to win

Congratulations to all winners! I am so glad to see the fuzzy have finally grown to be a formidable consisitent pair. There is no doubt about their capability now after their win against Tony/Chandra. I think Tony/Chandra played to the best of ability in IO in past 12 months time. Yet fuzzy came out on top.
I am also very impressed with maria Kristin even though she lost to ZL. I think her skill , speed and fitness is definately on par with ZL if not better then her. Maria played fantastic dropshot and chops in the match. Also she is not tall but she has excellent angle. I think she lost because of her injured right leg and her inexperience. It's a pity she played too many over ambitious inaccurate dropshot and chops in the third game that cost her too many points at the beginning of third game. In third game her stoke is not that accurate due too fatigue she should have played more conservatively. She should have attacked only after she created better opportunity. May be her leg injury started to give her pressure to finish each rally faster. Anyway she is definately rising.
Indonesian spectators have very lousy sportmanship! If they have heard of sportmanship and fair play at all!! Indonesian spectators boo zakry/tazari everytime they gain points. But I am most shocked when they even boo fuzzy when they receive their prize from the VIP!! Unbelievable! If I am the VIP that present the prize i will feel very ashame of the behaviour of the crowd. Don't they know the war is over? Don't they know that is the time to honour 4 players that played their heart out to give us some highest level badminton? Instead of booing they should have cheered all 4 players! What a shame Indonesian spectators!:o

Political reason. More than meets the eye. If you're malaysian, you should know exactly what's the cause of that.

Jadehunt, I think it will happen again until some fairness is restored... Actually, the reasons are obvious... and have nothing to do with sportsmanship and badminton.
In order for all your questions to be fully answered. Please ask the Malaysian leaders on why Malaysians get this treatment from many Istora spectators... We can't discuss this in BC forum... For now, just don't take it personally before learning of what Malaysian leaders have done to Indonesia.
That's all. Let's return to badminton... :)

Okay...a late wrap up for the Djarum Indonesia Open SS 2008, since I was too tired to write one last night.
I only watched 3 matches....first up was the Men's Singles All-Indonesia Final. Simon Santoso played exceptionally well in the first-set, esp in the first half. That was probably Simon at his best, with his accurate placement shots which fooled Sony (even though Sony did have an early lead in this period). Simon eventually took the first set 21-19.
However, it went down pretty drastically in the second set, with Simon gifting Sony lots of cheap points. That certainly shows why he still has work to do in terms of his mental attitude. When he plays well, he certainly can beat the best players. However, when he's off, he can gift his opponents cheap pts consecutively. Witness that when he was leading Chen Jin in the second set, and also when he mentally broke down in the second set of last week's Singapore Open Final and yesterday in the second and third sets.
Simon did give some fight which made the scoreline a little more respectable at 21-14 to Sony in the second set, however, Sony made sure that didn't happen in the rubber-set. Simon was actually leading 3-0 when his trademark "mental collapse" basically meant Sony won 10 pts in a row. After that, u know who will eventually emerge as the winner. Sony Dwi Kuncoro won his (and Indonesia's) first Super Series title in the Men's Singles and more will be expected from him in the upcoming Beijing Olympics!
The third match was probably the easiest match for Team INA as Vita Marissa/Liliyana Natsir wasted no time in beating Japan's no 2 WD Satoko Suetsuna/Miyuki Mayuda in straight sets 21-15, 21-13; which means that they collected their 2nd Super Series titles as a pair. Incidentally, both titles were won when I was in Surabaya :D:cool: Both INA players were definitely on form and they duly repaid the huge support in the Istora Senayan with a convincing attacking display. A bronze will be a realistic target in Beijing.

I hate to say this, but, I am afraid Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari/Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif certainly would be worthy successors to Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wan (which will be bad news for MD pairs of other countries) with yet another fast-attacking display yesterday. The in-form Fairuz/Zakry were relentless in their attack from the start and only a slight lapse of concentration when they were leading 17-14 in the first set that Tony Gunawan/Candra Wijaya made use of this short period of time to set up a 6-1 run and eventually took the first set 21-19.
Although disappointed in not taking the first set, the MAS duo was always focussed in their task and they were certainly more agile in Tony/Candra. From the moment they led 6-2 in the second set, this 4 pts advantage was basically kept and even extended to 19-12. Another lapse of concentration for the MAS pair let the veteran pair came back to the game to within 1 pt at 19-18. However, a service fault by Candra Wijaya gifted 2 match pts to the MAS pair, and they won the second set in the next pt, after a loose return by Tony.
The third set was basically in the same pattern as the second set and I had to give credits to Tony/Candra for being able to stay in the game until 6-6. From then onwards, the MAS pair launched their attacks and led 11-6 in the rubber-set. Tony/Candra were also visibly tired out and the MAS pair won this set pretty convincingly.
So, Zakry/Fairuz won their second Super Series titles in a row...a feat that matched Koo/Tan's achievements last year. On this form, I have to say they are playing much better than Koo/Tan, esp in terms of communications. They were encouraging each other, with high-fives when they won a pt and pats on the back when the chips were down. These are positive signs that Koo/Tan probably have to learn.
With the good performance of other MAS MD pairs like Hoon Thien How/Tan Bin Shen (SF in Indonesia Open), Gan Teik Chai/Lin Woon Fui (F in Singapore Open), and Khoo Chung Chiat/Tan Wee Kiong (SF in Singapore Open); Rexy will have many pairs to play around with, to determine who will be the next World Class pair.

I didn't have the time to watch Maria Kristin's performance yesterday, but, I was constantly updated of the latest situation by Krisna. Thanks man :D
It was obviously another unbelievable display by the home player as she certainly exceeded every expectation in reaching the Final and even troubling Zhu Lin (the current World Champion) in a 78-mins marathon match. From what I gathered, Zhu Lin was basically wasting lots of time with her delays and was yellow-carded in the second set after she kicked the shuttle due to frustration  Maria came short in the first set, losing it 18-21, but, she took advantage of the situation in the second set and seeing that Zhu Lin was wearing out, she certainly excelled in levelling the scores at 1-1, by taking the second set 21-17.
Too bad, the third set still belonged to Zhu Lin as she wrapped the match 21-14. However, a very positive signal from the Pelatnas's WS department. Now, Maria certainly will go out to a match facing any top 10 player with the mentality that she can also beat them!
Yet again, I couldn't help but noticing how much have Pelatnas's WS and WD have changed since the Uber Cup Runner-Up Finish. Susy Susanti certainly played a big role in terms of motivating the girls to a higher-level and I hope both Maria Kristin and Vita Marissa/Liliyana Natsir continue the never-say-die spirits to the Beijing Olympics and contribute a medal or two (any color will do)!
The MD department certainly has a lot to learn....esp Kido/Hendra. They still lacked situational awareness in crucial stages of the game (usually in the third set). Often times, they lost the rubber-set pretty easily (like this week against Tony/Candra), in the Swiss Open and Thomas Cup (against Jung/Lee). I was also disappointed and shocked with Kido's statement that he became less confident after all these losses :cool: They are the World Champions and they HAVE BEATEN ALL the pairs going to the Olympics, except the one pair who is probably on a worse run than them currently.

Arrived home only at 01:45 am Malaysian time last night, flight was delayed a bit .....
My take on the FINALS :
MS - The game was Simon's to take. Sony was actually more in distress upon completion of 1st game, but Simon's "cheap sale" points gave Sony a 2nd wind. Simon's attacks got looser and Sony's defences got tighter. But really, gifting 10 straight pts in the decider is criminal, to say the least. It does not help Simon's case for inclusion to the Olympics, though I still believe he is more deserving than Taufik at this point.
MD - A repeat of last year's semifinal, with similar results. For the 1st two games, the Uncles kept pace. They were superior in fast flat drives, and accurate at placements to baseline. Fuzzy pair, on the other hand, excel in hard attacks, and the Uncles' defence was exposed primarily at the sidelines.
By the 3rd game, Uncles became tired and Fuzzy pair took the chance home. Best two rallies of the game came towards the end of the match, when Zakry did two deceptive cross-court placements. Fairuz was injured a bit after the match but it was worth it. Great stubborn resistance from Uncles.
WD - It was all for INA to take. Should have been an easier game than the scoreline suggests, but Vita has been struggling all tournament. Enter Lilyana, who took it upon herself to practically destroy the Japanese opposition with their, ahem, smooth legs ...... :p
WS - Only managed half of the match, had to leave midway through 2nd game. Maria provided great resistance and Zhu Lin was found wanting in stamina yet again. Unfortunately, Maria was still prone to making simple errors that allow Zhu Lin to come back in the game .... anyway, great effort and hopefully from now onwards, Maria (and Firda) will have a greater conviction to their abilities. Maybe add a bit of gamesmanship, more pace in the shots and awareness of the opponent's major weapon, the deceptive steep dropshot.
Special thanks to Hau-ge, Krisna and fastdrop for providing great companionship (+ VIP pass).

Exactly...always good to have an opposing pair on a probably worse run (and perhaps condition) ;) If I am Rexy, I would choose Fairuz/Zakry...based on their excellent forms over the past 2 weeks and during Thomas Cup.
But hey, even Fu/Cai are also not in a good situation themselves, having lost early in the All-England and Swiss Open; and lost to the one pair they have beaten easily all these while in the Thomas Cup.
Even the seemingly unbeatable Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae got beaten by Guo Zhendong/Xie Zhongbo and Lars Paaske/Jonas Rasmussen over the past 2 mths. Guo/Xie themselves lost to lower-ranked pairs lately.
So, it's all to play for in the Beijing Olympics.

Yup, INA fans are superb, esp. the girls. Quite a lot of them sat close to us during finals day ...... maybe because Bao Chunlai was close by.
Those booooes and heckling, it is part of mental training on the part of our players. As coach Misbun said, Istora is the best mental training camp, though it is no longer the "commando training camp" it was in the 60s to 80s. Then, you really needed courage to withstand the crowd.
What MAS BC-forummers do or do not know concerning certain sensitive subject matters may not be the same as what INA BC-forummers do or do not know. Even worse, something sensitive on one side might not be sensitive on the other side. This can lead to misunderstandings, but it is best to let things be and concentrate on the badminton discussions proper without going to nationalistic fervour. It is best when you can be an, ahem, almost neutral observer .......
Though I must say that the organizers of S'pore Open were very naughty when playing out the Rasa Sayang song just before LCW's MS match vs Simon Santoso.

I don't quite see Simon having a 'mental collapse' problem.It's more a reflection of physical stamina. That's Simon's 10th match vs Sony's 5th in 2 weeks.
In Simon's ABC loss to CJ, Simon won a gruelling match against a compatriot the day before whilst CJ was very fresh(gifted further with a non-CHN walkover). If mental reasoning holds, then CJ suffered a mental collapse in his ABC loss to PSH.PSH toughed out 2 consecutive 3G matches over BP and Sony, in both cases coming back from the brink;CJ had a practice SF match with LD.
In his SO loss to LCW, Simon's not the exception. All LCW's opponents were drained out in their final games.Simon got the worst score because LCW saw him as 'dangerous'(read it as a compliment) and never let go until he has notched up adequate 'insurance'(at 15-0) and maybe dinner time played a part!
In fact I was quite impressed with Simon. In spite of his embarrassing loss to LCW, he managed to bounce back to reach his second consecutive SS final. He must have told himself after his match with LCW that henceforth, every match can only get easier. And he was right. That's excellent mental attitude!
Simon looks a good substitute for TH in OG08.How far can TH go , with his lack of match fitness and competitive exposure?Skills alone may get him past first round. And if TH can only get past first round, might as well send Simon to OG08 to build up experience for 0G12?

Don't quite agree with u there, PJ.
In the semifinals too, Simon had problems finishing off the game. In game 1, he was leading something like 19-11, Tago came back until 16 before he could finish it off. And again, in the 3rd, he held matchpt at 20-13 or 20-14, Tago caught up until 18-20.
In that last rally, Simon was at Tago's mercy and already fell down trying to save the shuttle. Tago was probably surprised by that, he muffed an easy putaway. Otherwise it would have been 19-20 and who knows what might have happened next.
This is just one aspect of the game that Simon needs to work on. LCW once had that problem too.
All things considered, I still think Simon is the fittest among the 3 top INA MS players.

I was an INA-fan in the 1980s... at that time, specators were allowed to smoke during the match and there were no air-condition... Water-bottles could be thrown into the court after a foreign opponent scored a crucial point... :p At that time, it was followed by cheers!
The last time I saw water throwing was in 2004... the Istora crowd immediately shouted "kampunan, kampungan, kampungan..." [provincial, provincial, provincial / no class, no class, no class]... The authorities looked for the trouble-maker and escorted the guy out. ;)

WMC has to start beating players from other countries first before she is expected to beat the Chinese wall. Sure she had a fabulous performance last year in the China Open, but what the heck has she did since?
I never said Tine is one hit wonder. She has definitely got what it takes to take down any chinese player with her superb attacking power play.
If I were you..I would not say that no one can beat Chinese...let me share with you..china badminton is very worried and they count at least 5 to 7 players now can beat chinese players...
What WMC did was very fabolous as she did beat chinese in china and honestly many non-factors got into the play that LYB would make sure Chinese would win all titles last year including service/receive faults tactics...( it worked in Cheng Du)

Simon lost because his weakness in power. Sony is a very fast and agile player, when he's on the run, even LD got frustrated. In Simon's case, he just could not finish the rally no matter how in control he was. Furthermore, Sony indeed seemed quite fresh. He can run as fast in the 2nd and 3rd games (if not faster!). This frustrated Simon.
Furthermore, Simon's backhand is pretty weak. So the situation is like, when Simon dominates his opponent, he cannot finish him; When Simon is dominated, he loses the point. ;)

ZL kept trying to delay the game. She already got 2 yellow cards. What happens if she gets 3 yellow cards? any penalty? I've never seen anyone got red card before. Any badminton expert who can answer my question? Thx
So how many yellow cards u need to have to get a red card? And how many red cards to get a black card? pls explain, thx.
..i don't know the exact ruling on how many yellow/red cards are needed for an umpire to issue a red/black card. However, not too long ago, a red card was given once during the 2006 TC's MD Semifinals match between the Danes vs. Mas; and the unfortunate recipients were the Danish pair (i believe the pair was Jens Eriksen & MLH); as for the penalty, i believe they had their pt taken off of them.

Oh, that game? I think we had three yellows and two reds. One red each for MAS and DEN, one yellow for MAS and two for DEN. This was the time when the card system was newly introduced together with the ruling to cut down on time wasting on the 21 point-per-rally system.
The red cards meant one point advanced to the opponent, not deduction of existing points.
But I suppose real blatant disregard will allow for a straight red/black card, like the professional fouls in soccer (immediate dismissal).

lol, maybe the fans should bring some red color cards to game.
When we dislike a call by the umpire, we should throw some red cards onto the court of the perceived culprit to show our displeasure:p
This is a great way for quiet fans to express them opinion:p

Then you may be red-carded yourself for 'ungentlemenly conduct' or even shown the black card and be escorted away by the ushers for throwing missiles at the players.
Better to be armed with an oversized, clearly visible RED CARD and show it with contempt and chanting "FOUL, FOUL, FOUL" at the same time.
But never shout "Referee KAYU"!

The rules on misconduct is stated in BWF Law 3 Recommendations To Umpires:
MISCONDUCT
IMO, of particular relevance are the following incidents:
3.5.1 - A player throwing a racket into the opponent's court or sliding under the net thereby causing obstruction and distraction, and possibly suspension in play.
3.5.4 - Players leaving the court without the umpire's permission.
3.5.5 - Players deliberately causing delay and suspension in play by unnecessarily walking around the court.
3.5.6 - Coaching from off the court in any form while the shuttle is in play. Coaches must be seated in the designated seats and do not stand court-side during the match except during the permitted intervals. They must not distract or cause disruption to play and players. Such coaches can be warned and for a second similar offence be removed from the arena floor by the Referee.
Most of these breaches are covered under BWF Law 16 on CONTINUOUS PLAY, MISCONDUCT & PENALTIES.
Of special note is Law 16.6 which states that:
A player shall not:
16.6.1 - deliberately cause delay in, or suspension of, play;
16,6,2 - deliberately modify or damage the shuttle in order to change its speed or its flight;
16.6.3 - behave in an offensive manner; or
16.6.4 - be guilty of misconduct not otherwise covered by the Laws of Badminton.
The Umpire is given the power to penalize those who breached the Law.
16.7 Administration of breach
16.7.1 - The umpire shall administer any breach of Law 16.4, 16.5 or 16.6 by:
16.7.1.1 - issuing a warning to the offending side; (Umpire calls the offending player to his side, raises his right hand holding a YELLOW CARD (Yellow Card) above his head and calls aloud "...player's name, WARNING for misconduct".
16.7.1.2 - faulting the offending side, if previously warned. Two such faults by a side shall be considered to be a persistent offence; (Umpire calls offending player to his side, raises his right hand holding a RED CARD above his head and calls aloud "...player's name, FAULT for misconduct"; or
16.7.2 - in cases of flagrant offence, persistent offences or breach of Law 16.2 (on Intervals), the umpire shall fault the offending side and report the offending side immediately to the Referee, who shall have the power to disqualify the offending side from the match.
For disqualification or BLACK CARD:
When the umpire has to administer a flagrant or persistent breach of the relevant Laws by faulting the offending side and reporting the offending side immediately to the Referee with a view to disqualification, he calls the offending player to his side as in the RED CARD case and in addition he calls the Referee to inform him and if the Referee agrees and decides to disqualify the offending side, a BLACK CARD is given to the umpire (by the Referee).
The umpire then calls the offending player to his side and calls
"...player's name, disqualified for misconduct"
at the same time raising his right hand holding a black card above his head.
So technically it will be:
2 yellow cards = 1 red card;
2 red cards = 1 black card
Then the player is disqualified and out of the match.
Hope you still have the stamina to read up to this stage, remain in focus and not be distracted . Otherwise you'll be given the RED card!
