Look at the names of XD pairs playing, m'friend...
The only ones I recognise are MAS, SIN, and some TPE pairs.
The others? No idea.

Just like I've been told before, those MAS pairs are quite seasoned for junior players. Compare to those Vietnamese or Macau players.
Some of your players have won several prestigious titles back then. And if I'm not mistaken, they've been sent into some higher-level tournaments. Super Series, for example.

With those consideration, it'll be a shame if those players of yours can't bag any title here.
Have I made myself clear, Sire?

wow i think these are still very junior player and i dont think there is any shame in losing.. i feel the important thing is learning. I feel that Malaysian junior players have not been given much exposure except when they are in their 17 or 18 compare to other countries like China, Korea, Singapore and even Thailand. Their Junior Players hardly have any international exposure.

What u seen in Vietnam are just a few handful and of course the cream. Malaysian normally starts exposing their junior at the very late stage that is why their ranking are low

Er... I'm sorry Sire. But I think Malaysia is very generous in sending their juniors.
If you do more checking, you'll see almost all Satellite, Challenge, and GP Gold tournaments are swarmed by MAS juniors since ... I don't know when.

Sigh... Wonder when will be INA that wealthy?

Ah, enough of this.
Some of you probably think that I'm probably looking for excuses because none of our shuttlers made it into finals.:crying::crying::crying:
Anyway, congratulations to Malaysia for ensuring a title in XD.:)

I'm sure we still have one hope, though absolutely slim, in WD.

Saina Nehwal is only 18 this year and she is the top India Player, Xing Aiying of Singapore is playing Olympic and Thailand is also exposing Porntip and Thamoosak( dont know the spelling) and both are still eligible to play in the Asian Junior.

These are some of the player who benefited from early exposure.

Yeah, Saina Nehwal is India promising badminton star. Her achievement is quite impressive so far considering her young age. She's runner up of World Junior Championship 2006 in Incheon when she was 16 (lost to CHN's Wang Yihan). And Saina will compete the upcoming Beijing Games, what a spectacular experience for Junior player...

Anybody can tell me how to pronounce those 2 letters?

The closest approximation is (Ng)-ween Theen Min(h) :)
(Ah, but I cannot explain the falling-rising tones required).

Ng is the same as in the Chinese Ng - it's a nasal sound like 'ing'.
The 'h' at the end of Minh is also nasal - like a sudden exhalation.

Try saying Ween Theen Min - and you're almost there ;)

I'm a Vietnamese and I don't want you take our names for joking :)

That kind of thought never crossed my mind, Sire. Nothing to worry. It's all about curiousity.:) I'm sorry for this misunderstanding.

Nguyễn Tiến Minh(VIE)

Anybody can tell me how to pronounce those 2 letters?

Current WR TCS & CWF are same at 72. CWF has less SS exposure than TCS, I reckon he can overtake TCS with more big match exposure. For me, I like his playing style & fighting spirit.

well, cwf is still young, just 21 and monkey 22, not bad both from kedah :)
You didnt catch the joke. you mentioned TCS & CWF replace 3 = WCH, Hafiz, YKB. -> CWF can do the work of 2 or 2 junior can do the work of 3 seniors.

.....this match mean chen jin is easier to beat if compare to nguyen...:D
Hiyaaa my bro, CJ in India Open was still injured lah.

simon santoso have been in senior tournament for years...how to compare...bam lost their chance to have more good potential ms...now waste time when people are all run far ahead of us...

Me compare cos Simon is 22 or 23, almost same age with TCS & CWF.
I already posted in TCS thread, NSC say must cut cost, cannot send everyone. Anyway, after OG, they look good to be finally promoted to senior squad, then can go SS.

i think so, at 21. but simon is a bit higher in level, he looks older than his age..he's cool...but he needs more smile on his face...he needs more exposure...:D

Looks older?? When I saw Simon in Spore SS, I thought he looked only 18.
An Indonesian BCer mentioned Simon will be 23 this year.

Remember CJ's back injury? Happened during Swiss SS (CJ was out in round 2), which was bf India Open. Me remember reading in the press CJ havent fully recover.
CJ injured his back last year, in France Open 2007 I think. Then again, this year during TC Finals.

CJ still had to qualify for OG in India Open, his place was NOT secured yet. He had to play in all remaining tourneys or KJ would be in WR#4. Then CJ would have had no chance to be the 3rd MS for CHina in OG.
And cos CJ lost early round in India Open, he had to be winner/runner up of ABC. CJ was aiming to win India Open. It was a mad mad rush to qualify for OG.

CJ WAS NOT INJURED..if he was...then he would have retired from final ABC against PSH...CJ won AE ( was he injured at all after beating LCW in SF)?

Everytime a chinese player loses a match...so many excuses..injured here and there...lost is a lost..we had to give other players a credit when they play well...

Sony still has injury too.....TH has always back injury all the time..:D:D
All players have a very minor injury but cant be used an excuses when they lost....

I would think that cwf play very well in the final..but his playing style sometimes remind me of roslin..he was just chasing all the shuttle and he doesnt have the smashing power of tcs..i would think he needs more power if he needs to become a world beater..

Huang, I wasnt giving excuses, it was in the press. If the coach (mostly LYB) say his players not fully recovered, I take it as it is, really true or not, they know better. Unless we want proof 1st, like CJ's waist all bandaged up or have inside info like you.:D

Like Misbun said LCW had knee injury in Denmark SS, I took is as it is. Then we saw LCW's knee taped here & there, in ice packs aft matches.

Razif Latif & Chan Peng Soon are Msia's back-up MD & XD players, under BAM. Their coach is Rashid Sidek (the thinner one, in red shirt in MS finals), chief coach for back-up squad.
The bigger size coach (in yellow shirt), I dont recognise him, cant see his face from tv.

Hong & Ng are from private clubs. Hong used to be with KLRC like Chew CE but if he's wearing Victor's shirt means HOng has gone over to Victor.
Same like the semi uncles, Chan Chong Ming/Chew Choon Eng (runner-up 2008 India Open) are under VIctor, no coach, Victor is their sponsor.

Ng KK, me dunno, seen his name but not sure which club he's from.

you agree with too many people?:p:p CWF, like many of the other MJs, lost in early rounds in Thailand Open. But from this Vietnam IC, can see CWF working very hard to impress the coaches.

I wonder why he was 'quiet' till end of last year, injury?? that time TCS & Chan KB were tops.

I don think he was quiet as u were saying..sometimes is just about reaching top form at the right time..upsetting cj once does not mean he is a second class player already..he has to do it consistenly..before vietnam if i am not mistaken he lost to ng wei tamely right?

I meant in starting to win titles & getting coverage in the press, he won a sateltte tourney end of 2007. Bf that, I think not even runner up. TCS won 2 tourneys middle of 2007. Rashid talked abt TCS & CKB then, after World Juniors, abt Arif.

CWF was somewhere in the background along with Lim Fang Yang, Liew Daren, etc. Then suddenly, so it seemed, CWF won a tourney end of 2007, then Arif won one in Iran beginning of 2008. Then, CWF beat CJ in April 2008. Rashid started talking abt him & Arif. And so on...

CWF has been included in the list of the 4 muskeeters;) : TCS, Arif, CWF, CKB. CKB has gone to the sidelines, I hope only temporarily.

The duo have been sparring with Lee Chong Wei and Wong Mew Choo and Misbun felt that their presence in Beijing would do them good, especially when they are in the programme for the 2012 London Olympics. Wei Feng and Chun Seang have showed improvement in their game since they began sparring with Chong Wei this year.......

Smashing performance:

Nguyen Tien Minh came from behind to successfully defend his title at the Viet Nam Challenge – Robot Cup badminton tournament, which closed yesterday at HCM City’s Phan Dinh Phung Gymnasium.

The national No 1 and world 26th seed sweated it out against Malaysia’s Chong Wei Feng in the final, where Chong upset many local fans to win the first set 21-17.

Chong also had many people wondering about Minh’s performance at next month’s Beijing Olympics, where he will be one of two Vietnamese representatives competing against high-ranking rivals from across the world.

Minh seemed exhausted after a semi-final match last Saturday against Saensomboonsuk Tanongsak of Thailand, the tournament’s No 3. The Vietnamese reigning champion needed nearly an hour to eliminate Saensomboonsuk, his most difficult match yet on the way to the final.

In the final’s first set, Chong eased up and got in tune with his technique, and in the end dominated the match.

However, the loss jolted life into Minh, who under Chinese expert Yan Shi Qiang, who coached Viet Nam at the 22nd Southeast Asian Games in 2002, changed his play tactics.

Yan recognised Chong’s right-handed return weakness and told Minh to create volleys to attack Chong consecutively. In addition, the Vietnamese also combined long and short shuttles that confused Chong, causing inaccurate returns. The Malaysian himself also lost points with netted hits.

It was an easy set for Minh when he led 11-3 and kept a large distance with Chong until it was 21-10.

The third and final set was aggressive, heating up the entire gymnasium. Chong, who was not appreciated as highly as Minh, was in high spirits and found his form. He silenced many local fans by leading 9-4 to Minh, whose physical strength gradually slowed down.

People became worried when the defending champion couldn’t find a way to stop Chong, whose points kept rising, up to 12-6.

Taking full advantage of a few minutes during a timeout, Minh sped up the game and step-by-step earned some important points, before levelling the score 15-all.

Both sides realised that it was an essential moment of the game that would decide the winner of the tournament. They all were careful with every action. The score rose slowly: 18-17, 20-17 for Chong before Minh drew 20-20.

Thousands of fans cheered Minh on.

In the end, Minh won 26-24 and the men’s single event title stayed in Viet Nam.

It was the only champion crown that the host team grabbed from the tournament, which gave Minh a bonus of US$2,000. Former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai, also chairman of the Viet Nam Badminton Federation, awarded Minh VND20 million on the spot.

He received other bonuses from Nguyen Phuong Nam, director of Robot Company, the main sponsor of the tournament, and the HCM City’s Badminton Federation.

Apart from cash prizes, Minh also pocketed 4,000 points in the world rankings of the World Badminton Federation, which should give him a boost on his way to Beijing.

In other news yesterday, Malaysia ensured two gold medals when they sent competitors to the finals of men’s and mixed doubles. Meanwhile, Singapore pocketed a gold and silver in the women’s doubles final match. — VNS
