At this rate, I'm afraid INA can't even have 1 title... Haiz...

Dunno why. I think INA team is a combination between Pelatnas and club members.
Not even one seeded player? Thanks to their rarely being sent into int'l competitions. That's why.

Dont worry about the seeding...
Even CHN players are not seeded and we know they will do many damages...

Then we have one Macau player is seeded....he may crash out from 1st round.....
Seeding in Junior does not mean anything....

I personally think that the seedings should be based on the country's historical record at the Asian Junior Championships...:D Like in the soccer FIFA World Cup. If I'm not mistaken, FIFA used a seeding formula that takes into account the records of the last 3 world cups played, former champs and host nation. Thus... Germany, Italy, France, Brazil are almost always at least seeded 5-8... Knowing the records [thus reputations] of these 4 countries... fair enough, right?

So in Asian Junior Badminton Championships, to determine the 5-8 seed, for instance, you have to at least include:
GS and GD
The #1 and #2 player/pair from China
The #1 from Indonesia
The #1 from Korea

BS, BD, and XD
The #1 from China
The #1 from Malaysia
The #1 from Indonesia
The #1 from Korea

To determine the 9-16 seeds for all categories, at least include players/pairs from:
#1 from India
#1 from Thailand
#1 from Taiwan
#1 from whichever nation is hosting the event
etc.

totally agree, as china and ina won't send players to all int'l competitions, so the seeded or ranking will not be accurate...

Wijayanti, Nimas Rani (http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/player.aspx?id=22947&player=31)

I just knew some of junior 'pelatnas' player in here:

Adi Pratama from Jaya Raya, Engga Setiawan and Ulinuha from Djarum.

Nimas "Butt"/Annisa from Djarum, the winner of Laos International Series 2008 and ASEAN School 2008 ( I think they have the bigger chance to grab one title than other players)

Nadhir Maziyyah, and my favorite player from Bandung, Siti "Sharaphova" Annida or Dea. If i'm not mistake, Dea is the highest junior player in Pelatnas (175 cm). Having great oppurtunity when her age not yet 17.

Hopefully the best for them..

Annisa/Nimas didn't play in ASEAN School 2008.
PBSI sent to this event in wrong info about age limit, they taught age limit is born 1991 instead of 1990)
The WD winner is Della Destiara/Claudia Wijaya.

INA's squad in Asia U-19 mostly fielded by ASEAN School's team plus 1990 born players.

Boys Singles (totally different with ASEAN School)

Adi Pratama (Pelatnas)
Engga Setiawan (Pelatnas)
Setyo Widiharto (Surya Naga)

Tough task ahead for our shuttlers at junior meet
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia face a daunting task to live up to their billing in the mixed team badminton event in the Asian Junior Championships starting at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara here today.
Malaysia had the services of top juniors like Mohd Arif Abdul Latif and Lydia Cheah last year when they chalked up an upset win over mighty China to lift the mixed team title for the first time.
But with almost the entire squad from last year not eligible to play this time, Malaysia will not find it easy to even reach the semi-finals.
Malaysia have been seeded ahead of Thailand but, surprisingly, China and South Korea are unseeded. Instead, Hong Kong and Taiwan have been seeded third and fourth respectively.
That means Malaysia could find themselves playing against China for a place in the last eight if they fail to overcome Japan in Group A.
Malaysia open their campaign against India this morning before taking on Iraq in the afternoon.
If Malaysia top the group, they will probably face Taiwan in the quarter-finals of a half which also has South Korea and Indonesia.
Japan will be Malaysia’s strongest rivals in the group but team manager How Kim Tho said the immediate task for the team was to come out with full points from the opening day’s encounters.
“India have a good singles player in Guru Sai Dutt, who is seeded ninth in the boys’ individual competition. But, on paper, we should be able to come out on top,” he said.
“We will probably field our strongest squad for the tie against India to ensure we get the points.
“As for our overall chances in the mixed team event, it will be hard for the current team to emulate last year’s performance.
“China and South Korea are not seeded because they seldom come out to play on the international stage. But they certainly are the teams everyone expects to play in the final.”
Malaysia featured in four of the five individual finals last year. Besides the mixed team title, Tan Wee Kiong-Woon Khe Wei won the mixed doubles after finishing runners-up the previous year.
Malaysia have players seeded in the top for the boys and mixed doubles events, which begin after the mixed team competition on July 16.
The boys’ doubles will be Malaysia’s best bet of landing the gold but Chooi Kah Ming-Yeoh Choong Yee and Mak Hee Chun-Teo Kok Siang, the first and second seeds respectively, may find themselves up against formidable Korean opponents in the quarter-finals.
Kah Ming-Ng Hui Ern are the top seeds in the mixed doubles event.

MAS coach has expressed that IND MS 1 is strong, and he was right.
Losing to a stronger opponent is acceptable.
Lost one, win four. Why so sad?
You should really learn to thank God for any victories you got.

About our WS loss, it's not quite a big deal.
If I'm not mistaken, she is a club player, not in national team.
WS main forces are competing in PON (INA National Sport Competition) right now.
Besides, she lost in a pretty tight match: 21-16 19-21 18-21 in 53 mins.
I'm also sure her opponent is a good player.

Chinese Taipe looking dangerous in their XD , WS & MD
50-50 chances against MAS
Korea will be the heavy favourites for the Mix team title with their overall strength
LYB's son will come out to show his true colour from QF onwards
INA will be an easy meat for CHN in SF.

Li Gen is Li Yongsbo's son. As far as I know, he has not nailed any juniour championship in China, not even passed the semifinal hurdle unlike the other doubles players in the team such as Chai Biao and Zhang Nan who shine in the Chinese juniour circuit. If I don't remember wrongly, he was also in the U16 team two years ago in Vietnam but lost in early stages. To me, he does not stand out among the Chinese juniors and it's a surprise to see his inclusion in the team.

Don't quite agree with you. Football is purely a team sport, while badminton is an individual sport (even team events in badminton are made up of 5 individual matches).

In individual sports, you should seed by individuals. It is unfair to discriminate players due to their nationality. It would be unfair to pass over Tanongsak just because his country is not China or Korea.

#1 from whichever nation is hosting the event
etc.

Don't quite agree with you. Football is purely a team sport, while badminton is an individual sport (even team events in badminton are made up of 5 individual matches).

In individual sports, you should seed by individuals. It is unfair to discriminate players due to their nationality. It would be unfair to pass over Tanongsak just because his country is not China or Korea.

hcyong, aren't we talking about the Asian Juniors Championships here? Where most individuals do not have BWF rankings... I did not say it is fair to pass over Tanongsak. Read my posts carefully: I said "at least" many times... thus, since Tanongsak has a lot of BWF points, then he deserve to be seeded high. How do you suggest we seed the individuals with no BWF rankings then? And most of the very good players from Korea and China have not earned any BWF ranking points... while maybe some players from Brunei, Laos, and Cambodia might have some BWF ranking points accumulated...

For me it is quite clear that any #1 and #2 Girl's Singles and Doubles from China even with no BWF ranking points ever recorded has to be seeded at least in the top 8 of Asian Juniors. Even though I've never seen them play before, I am sure they can play the Girl's Doubles from any Asian countries pretty well... ;) I can't say the same about the #1 Girl's Doubles and Singles from Brunei and Cambodia, though... :o

As to whether it is fair to keep seeding Germany, Italy, Brazil, etc. in World Cup Football, ...even though it is a team sport... the individuals within the team also changes, just like in badminton... but virtually the same countries keep performing very well... World Cup after World Cup... Just like the fact that virtually the same countries keep dominating the Thomas, Uber, and Sudirman Cups even the Asian Junior Championships... the individual players change, but the countries' accomplishments... about the same... :p

Wow, Indonesia had a very hard time dealing with Hong Kong yesterday but China makes it like a walk in a park today.
I can't imagine what would happen if we had won the matches yesterday...

Not exactly.
What I'm going to say is a simple deduction:
Hong Kong played slightly better than us. (3 - 2)
China plays much better than Hong Kong. (3 - 0)

So?;)

Jagdpanther

Ouch... INA and MAS, better luck in individuals!

Good effort by young Malaysians. I thought your target is reaching QF?
This is beyond expectation then.

CHN >< KOR in finale, what a rivalry between these two countries when they had met each other in three consecutive final editions of World Junior Team Championship.
- 2004 edition, CHN overcame KOR 3-0
- 2006 edition, KOR won over CHN 3-2
- 2007 edition, CHN downed KOR 3-1.

there's a redraw for the individual event just now... it look like a tough draw for malaysians .... so the question is? will malaysia lift any title for the asian junior championship

this 6 ms...iskandar,kuan kc is the only two that can have some result...no for ms title...

ws...6 also...all can do some damage...but cant go far...except tee jing yi...one or 2 upset is good enough...no for ws title...

md...3 pairs...the most posible between 5 event for title...but the % is 30 only i think(compare to others 5% or even less...sure high...)...korea/china will be big threat

ws...3 pairs...similar to ws...can do damage...but for title...hmm...i dont think so...

xd...6 pairs...1/2/3 seed also form mas???...is this a joke???...hmm...second posible title for mas...but...not high...25%...

anyone agree???

hope many upset from mas player...:D

ms,posible winner
1,song(tanongsak for those whom dont know his nickname)
2,park sung min
3,and china player...hmmm
no many that i know...haha...so...just can say...rate base on what i know...

ws,posible winner
1,porntip
2,hung shih han
3,bae youn joo
4,chinese player
5,a little chance for tee jing yi...slim chance...she will be title contender next year

md,posible winner
1,mas
2,china
3,korea...

wd,posible winner
1,hong kong
2,china
3,korea
4,chinese taipei and thailand
5,mas

xd,posible winner
1,mas
2,korea
3,china
4,thailand/chinese taipei...

looks like china, korea, thailand will have more podium finish than mas...
even chinese taipei and hong kong maybe will too...:(

if pbsi(ina) think asian junior championship is more impotant...ina can do much better...:(
