ANNOUNCEMENT: PM Spam

Hi all,

recently a spammer has been hijaaking some user accounts and started sending SPAMs via PM. i have identified the spam PMs and deleted them. if you happen to have received a PM from a user and it turned out to be empty, you can go ahead and delete that PM. i have deleted the content which is not good for general audience.

in order to help us fight the spammer in the future, please consider changing your log in password.

..y'day morning, just before you shut down BC, again..When i opened the PM, it wasn't empty, but had some links to other sites. I deleted the PM right away, but when i was about to PM & inform you, BC was off..:p
Also, i noticed during the spamming period, BC got a lot of online users, all of a sudden. It went from a quiet 200-300 users to a wild 700-800 users all in the span of a few minutes. At that time, i knew something was fishy.....:mad::(

*Maybe there's a loophole in the program, kwun, thus one can send so many spams using different IDs??..or maybe there are multi-users??..:confused:

yup. just deleted another bunch.

this spammer might mean that we need to remove a bunch of existing compromised accounts. :(

..please do so, if you have to, kwun; you can shut down BC for the rest of the day, if you'd like..All those idling and inactive accounts!!...:mad::p
In the meantime, i'm gonna go away and do something else.... :D;)

I am experiencing a similar issue as well. I have 1 unread PM from an actual user which asked me something, howeever after reading it, it still saids there is 1 unread PM.

PM messages is set for friends list only. I have now put you in the list. :D

It was turned off during a sale and turned back on, so that's when the mysterious missing message must of came in.

i still have 2 unread PM but i've checked and i didn't see any unread PM nor spam PM. Have only 98 PM limit now:crying:

The PMs aren't around because they were deleted by kwun.
The PM notifications might remain... but they are harmless.
(And they should have gone away when you next login.)

Bot attacks are hardly unusual on online forums.
And, in general, they are large-scale attacks... and cause heavy disruptions.

We have been very lucky... because kwun has been careful :)

I got a private message and i was totally excited cuz its the first but then it wouldnt let me see it and i thought i was really dumb for not being able to figure out how to look at my own messages lol but then i read this but most of the people say that its a blank message but in the e-mail notification it said it was titled hi.i dont wanna delete it if someone actually sent it to me... but it was also sent 12-31-1969 lol so i should get rid of it huh?

I found an Unread PM notification but cant seem to find the actual message. Since this thread mention that its dated 1970 I scrolled down to check and found it without any title to click on. Have since deleted it and Unread status goes back to zero.
