View Full Version : Wimbledon Final: LinDan(Federer) vs LCW(Nadal)
jimbo 07-06-2008, 08:44 PM I hope our LCW is inspired by the win of Nadal in the most gruelling 5hrs Winbledon Final to beat the 5-times defending champion, Federer. If LCW and LD meets in the OG Final, I hope LCW will do what Nadal did...
Msia Boleh.... LCW Boleh... :D
========
Rafael Nadal has won his first Wimbledon men's singles title after holding off a stunning fightback from five-times champion Roger Federer to secure a dramatic victory in an epic rain-affected five-set final.
Nadal triumphed 6-4 6-4 6-7 6-7 9-7 in fading light in the longest men's final in Wimbledon history, as the French Open champion prevented top seed Federer from becoming the first man in history to win six successive titles.

X Ball 07-06-2008, 09:06 PM Jimbo, you definitely BOLEH. :)
For sure, if NADAL can do it, LCW will too. I will not settle for anything less than GOLD. LCW has put in 110% training effort for this - he will not be robbed.
CLELY 07-06-2008, 10:02 PM Yeah, Rafa's fighting spirit is so impressive to defeat five times Wimbledon champ FedEx. Looking forward to watch the dream final of two best in tennis and badminton for upcoming Beijing Games : Federer vs Nadal and Lin D vs Lee C W.

It's OK to lose in the OG08 if LCW put up a good fighting spirit like Nadal. I really admire this Nadal, his on-court spirit reminds me of our Hero FooKokKeong. These are the people who inspire me to work harder. I hope LCW will be like Nadal...

Month ago, I would simply rubbished off the "dream final of LD vs LCW" but after the Winbledon Final, I hope our own "wimbledon" will stage at the biggest sports event in the world. Let's hope for the wimbledon showdown and the fans will remember for the rest of their lives :)

Are U suggesting that there was no pressure or expectation on the Wimbledon's dream final? ;) I believe that the real champion (like Nadal) will rise to occassions albeit all the hypes n high expectations. Let's all hope LCW will do the "Nadal"... :p:D
bananakid 07-06-2008, 10:55 PM LCW = Nadal ???
Nadal's left arm bicep is probably bigger than LCW's head. Not to mention all the major titles that Nadal has won so far... what has LCW accomplished that is even comparable to Nadal.:confused:

If we look at the events prior to this coming Olympics, it seems like we are looking at an 'even' competition with LCW having as much a chance as LD who was the ultimate player.
LCW, since his loss to Sony in the World Championship, has turned a new 'page' and seemed to have stepped up. It almost appears like he has learned from his embarassment and is keen not to be 'poked' again by his fans (especially the fickle-minded ones). We have seen him win multiple SS's since and who would say with authority that they don't fear playing him these days. Think again and try to remember whether there is any time that we have blamed him since that inauspicious loss to Sony.
LCW owes his change to continuous fitness training and guidance from his coach and mentor Misbun. Somehow, Misbun has himself a new life with this capable charge. They seemed to work like the 'ying and the yang' - each helping one another to perfect badminton. Misbun seemed to enjoy his camaderie with LCW and vice versa.
LCW is a force to reckon with today -- no two ways about this. His speed is blinding (equalling if not excelling LD's, I am sorry BAO loses out here); he has acquired the skills to read and analyse his opponents' moves now (through incessant training from Misbun, a master strategist -- most of you would have seen Misbun hard at work jotting down notes during LCW's games and passing his observations to LCW - the communication has worked).
If you look at LCW's games, it is very fluent - he is no longer rushed. His patience to play according to a strategy is his biggest forte today. His physical fitness has allowed him to do this - no longer, does he need to do trick shots which normally get him in trouble (typical trademarks of tiredness - Hafiz shows that character frequently).
With the ying and the yang flowing, it is no longer a question whether he will win - it is more of what colour (and I suspect GOLD!).
jimbo 07-06-2008, 11:14 PM Few days ago I read an article (The Star). Our chief coach YapKH was so confident that his comrades will bring back at least ONE medal. The question is: What color?:D
Yes, he told me so recently... haha... :p:D Msia Boleh...
CHOcobo 07-06-2008, 11:26 PM Ferderer f'd up on this one. wouldn't compare the pair. lol. tennis players are more muscular than badminton players due to the weight of racket.
cooler 07-06-2008, 11:27 PM unfortunately the Olympic badminoton isnt played with traditional style, ie OSS. The combatants would finish the match with lots of energy left. Under OSS, a close match would see both players barely standing near the end.
In wimbledon MS final today, speed, power, stroke skill, and stamia were all taxed to each individual's limit. Nadal basically broke federer down at the end. Federer's last shot was a weak shot into the net.

Am not pouring cold water on your parade but sorry, dude, LCW is no Nadal. Infact LCW is nowhere near Rafael Nadal. The man has 29 titles to his name todate and he is only 22. Won 4 French Open titles 4 years in the row.
Yes, yes LCW can use Nadal's victory as an inspiration, however I am afraid LCW do not have the mental strength, determination nor the maturity of Nadal to overcome adversity.
The Olympic game is a big tournament and LCW, I am sorry will breakdown when the going gets tough.
hcyong 07-07-2008, 01:13 AM For those who think LCW is no Nadal, you are right. LCW will beat the hell out of Nadal on a badminton court. haha ... small joke

zqloy 07-07-2008, 04:24 AM This match was an instant classic of all time (tennis wise).
Both champions had to keep their intensity throughout 5 hours! Its all mental battle, both keep fighting and none gave up, but Nadal was just tougher. Our players should really watch this match, to learn what is mental toughness all about.

Jessica 07-07-2008, 04:41 AM wow..This is really a classical match in tennis..Almost five hours in play Nadal beat Federer.Well,i really do admirer Rafael Nadal a lot.I always like his fighting spirit on court and his never say die attitude. For Roger Federer,he is already a legend in tennis by winning five straight Wimbledon Champion so he is also a great great player. Finally, hope LCW can did what Nadal this yesterday by crowning the Olympic Champion.

Wong8Egg 07-07-2008, 12:10 PM We certainly needs more than just 5 threads to analysis why LCW should beat LD with the most legit reasons.
I personally think LCW will win OG because he Looked like the Coming Winner while his opponent Looked Dumb. Now to mention the movie "couched tiger and hidden dragon" puts tiger before dragon. Now where is the new thread button???

And LD looks dumb. Really ?
I'm afraid this high expectations of LCW is not doing him any good. Despite the improvements, both physical and mental, he made most recently, he is still human and can succumb to the pressures of high expectations and tough competition, especially against a China player with robust home support.
Do remember that there are a handful of players out there who can surprise both LD and LCW as Ronald did to LD during the last Athens Olympics. There may also be some top class players who have made tremendous improvement but did not display themselves recently. They are quietly preparing for the Olympic assault.
Watch out LD and LCW!

Well I would be in agreement with what you have said above if LCW was not in such awesome form (super duper fit). There is something you cannot change - he is in awesome form.
If other players can be in similar or better form, then yes but I doubt anyone can be fitter than this guy - his heart beat must be below 50 a this point. Look at his thigh muscles and you can tell he has been doing a lot of squats and skippings. He is not only ready to spring but he will pounce on his oppositions - I mean if I were LD, I would be certain LCW will not be giving in to him in any contest.
It will be tough for anyone against LCW - no one would take him for granted. He has timed his Olympics to purrrrrrrfection.

Forget about using Nadal as an inspiration.
LCW should look at our World's Tallest Flag Pole and use that Malaysia Boleh architecture brilliance as motivation to bring that gold home.

brudder... what's wrong with using Nadal as an inspiration? He is a hero (if u read the newspaper on how the Spanish hails him) and definitely inspires many of us to believe the impossible. It's just beating Tiger Woods for the green jacket in the match play... wow... dat certainly feels gooooddddd.. :p
Not many ppl can beat Fedex on the grass... so does SuperDan. So we all hope someone who will do the "Nadal" and beat SuperDan at his own turf...
I dont see anything wrong with that... why would u? ;)

Dear bro,
Nothing wrong at all in using Nadal as a model. What I am saying is that we should use something closer to home in the context of our Malaysia Boleh spirit.
Dont get me wrong, I am not dishing out your opinion bout using Nadal. I respect your opinion. It is just that I find while we trumpet Malaysia Boleh, we should use our own achievements as motivation to improve/achieve. And by having constructed the World's Tallest Flag Pole, I feel LCW ought to use that as motivation to pack LD off at his own back yard.
Malaysia Boleh!

"National badminton chief coach Yap Kim Hock is confident that his charges will return from the Beijing Olympic Games with at least a medal."(from Star Sports, 5 July 2008
I certainly hope Malaysia will get a medal from badminton and indeed she deserves one for all the hard work and support given to the game.
But as chief coach Yap himself had said so assuredly but politely, he did not say "GOLD" medal. He only mentioned "at least a medal."
Now this is less pressuring on the coaches and players and allow them to focus on the job on hand! :)

Yes, when he told me during the SO (that was before LCW thrashed Simon in the SO Final), I was shocked coz how could he felt so confident, I just didnt understand. After the SO Final, yes, i understand why he said so to me... it's exactly what he told the media... words by words... haha...:p

I quoted the chief coach's statement simply to remind that one should not be carried away and boast about getting a gold medal when the Games have not even started. He was confident of getting a medal but even he would not be so cocky as to say that Malaysia is assured of a gold. In other words, "don't count your chickens before they are hatched". I agree you need to aim high in whatever you set out to do, for then when you fall, at least it won't be right to the bottom.
You may let your closest friend or colleague know about your high goals just to make sure you'll be reminded in case you procrastinate. But it is better not to broadcast to the world (counting chickens before they're hatched) and pressure yourself lest you can't achieve it for whatever reason.
Remember freak accidents during the Olympics, like what KKK has to endure recently, or a bad stomach resulting from eating something incompatible as what madbad has suggested, will mean the end of one's Olympic hopes! Why lend yourself to undue embarrassment when you could avoid it?

Dont confuse yourself. Please find me a quote from me that says I cannot accept KKK/TBH could lose at times?? What I cannot accept is the primma donna, big time Charlie attitude i.e. not showing up for training, showboating etc.
As for your bark about the demises of players & BAM, again tell me despite all the taxpayers RM invested into badminton every year for the best coach, facilities and rewards, what have we won todate??? Where is that WC or that Olympic gold??? Thomas Cup?? And for my criticism of BAM, the shuttlers and sports in general in M'sia, you feel you are entitled to hurl personal insults at me??? :o Well, in that case I can certainly see the level of your maturity.
... but anyway, though I disapprove of your personal & petty insults, I will defend to the death your rights to say it (in your case, if resorting to insults of personal nature is your calling, please go ahead). ;)

X Ball 07-08-2008, 09:58 PM Remember freak accidents during the Olympics, like what KKK has to endure recently, or a bad stomach resulting from eating something incompatible as what madbad has suggested, will mean the end of one's Olympic hopes! Why lend yourself to undue embarrassment when you could avoid it?
For the sake of a friendly argument (and don't take it badly please), how can it be any embarassment to me if LCW fails because it was a bad stomach or something beyond his control ? I would not feel embarassed at all nor should LCW feel embarassed - similarly, people have led me to believe that by saying KKK was not at fault with the accident, I am embarassing myself. It is not sensible.
The only embarassment is when he does not try but that embarassment would be his own, not mine. When I predict a gold for him, I am actually a fan who believes. If he fails, then am I to be blamed or be shamed. Think about it.:D
Pemuda 07-08-2008, 10:06 PM Forget about Nadal as motivation to win that gold in Beijing.
LCW should use our very own record breaker, Sivasamy s/o Balakrishnan of Panaikkulam Village, Perak as motivation. Sivasamy crushed 25 eggs in 30 seconds. He placed the egg atop the back of his wrist and bent his fingers backward to break the eggs. The feat was achieved on Sept 20, 2005 at his work place, the Restaurant Naina Mohammed in Ipoh, Perak. This great feat is listed in our Malaysia Book of Records.
Dato Asbullah 07-08-2008, 10:08 PM Dont confuse yourself.
:o Well, in that case I can certainly see the level of your maturity.
... but anyway, though I disapprove of your personal & petty insults, I will defend to the death your rights to say it (in your case, if resorting to insults of personal nature is your calling, please go ahead). ;)
I agree on what Pemuda said.:D
Dato Asbullah 07-08-2008, 10:13 PM I agree you need to aim high in whatever you set out to do, for then when you fall, at least it won't be right to the bottom.
Embarrassment? Then better dont send team to OG.
Imagine if all mas players lost in their 1st game, do u count this as an embarrassment for YKH? Although he didnt make any statements...
An embarrassment is that when u know your players cant win any medals in OG, but still want to send them there.:D:D
reiko80 07-08-2008, 10:25 PM How about this? OG FINAL match:
LinDan lost to LCW: 19-21, 24-22, 28-30 :eek::p:D
jimbo...........ur imagination tooooooooooo high:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
Pemuda 07-08-2008, 10:27 PM Alternatively, our Msian shuttlers can also use the following as motivation to win that first gold in Beijing;
LONGEST HULA HOOPING: Nine-year old Ashwita Ramesh Nair surpassed her previous record for the longest hula hooping for a total of two hours, 12 minutes and 17.4 seconds nonstop. The feat was achieved on Oct. 15, 2005.
To all my fellow Malaysians,
We, as a nation have achieved great things together. We have made the world's biggest popiah, pizza & roti canai. We have took a taxi to space and conducted an experiment there - you can make teh tarik indeed in space! We have the World's Tallest Flagpole. We have the World Tallest Pencil. We have done the longest hula hooping.
Lets bring home the gold from Beijing.
Malaysia Boleh!

Well it can simply be an embarrassment because when a fan utters emphatically to all that his "hero" will win the Olympic gold and it turned out that he couldn't, albeit for a valid reason, people will laugh at him for making a fool of himself. Why should the fan make such a statement without due regard to the possibility that there could be extraneous factors that could prevent his hero from performing his best at the most crucial moment - during the Olympics.
Why should people blame the player for failing if he has done his best under "adverse" circumstances. The player is not answerable to his fan for making such an 'unwarranted' statement that he will win the gold. The fan has embarrassed himself for making a prediction that has gone wrong.
So it is better for the fan to say modestly that "I think so-and-so can win the Olympic gold basing on his recent good performance in both training and competiton" and not "so-and-so will win the Olympic gold' (counting chickens before they're hatched). And I think this is a more realistic statement as there are many other players who are also equally as committed and well-prepared. They also have a chance to claim gold.

Yes, of course LCW will never win on the world stage forever because he is mentally incapable -- that is the maturity of your statement. Sure, I can comprehend that.
jimbo 07-08-2008, 11:14 PM yeah, we (msia boleh fans) should not count the eggs before they hatched. well, didnt LYB starting counting for a clean sweep? Didnt HaTaeWon count for the MD GOLD for LYD? ;)
r u guys telling me that Nadal or Fedex's fans not counting for the wimbledom GOLD before the tourney even started? I dun know... u tell me...
Losing in OG is no shame... all qualified players (on merit) are world class players.
I must agree that YKH is a bit cocky (aka over confident)... just like jose mourihno. He said the same thing to me personally though I didnt understand why he said so. Isnt LYB another cocky b**tard?:D

MAS could hold INA to a 1-1 draw several weeks ago, with majority of the players are young (comparing to ours).
So, although MAS and INA football are embarassment to the nations, MAS football still has hope.

Malaysia football team ranked 166 in FIFA World Ranking currently.
There is 33 nations which is ranked lower than us, my dear.:D:D
169. Philipines
176. Chinese Taipei
182. Bangladesh
184. Cambodia

204. Timor Leste

Remember what've happened in WC07:confused:
That time YKH also mentioned about bring home the 1st ever World Champs, and it ends up....:o
This guy has been given too many chances, still zero major titles for any event by MAS badminton team since his charges
And I wont be surprise LCW fire his bullets at YKH again IF he fail to win medal of any colours as Yap publicly stated with confidence.
Worst Case Scenario : ALL MAS players except LeeCW lost before Quarterfinal at Bejing, His pressure will be extremely huge -- He is carrying the chief coach's future and the whole MAS hopes, could be tumbled easily(or should I said miraculously;)) agaist any lower ranked player or dark horse in QF.

The underlined portion : AG 2006, AE 2007 was considered major title out of 4 major titles : AG, AE, WC, OG. Team event of course is TC, UBer, Surdiman
This time YKH only said medal of any colour. hiyaaa, of course lah YKH must say sthing +ve in public, must show confidence, standard-lah. If he say "very hard, very hard to win" then he will get hammering from NSC, Sports Minister for not having winning attitude.
Chairman of Msia Olympic Council, said last week gold medal is possible from badminton, YKH didnt say that.
Anyway, the target given is must win medal of any colour, if target not reach, means mission failed. The new Sports Minister said that when he took office. So, YKH say or not say in confidence, die2 also must get medal, his job also will be on the line. :D
Difficult also be chief coach, say + ve, problem, say not +ve kena hammer:D;).
YKH's 4 year contract is ending, the way he sounded like it's the end of his tenure with BAM. Hmmm, it's like he doesnt care if BAM extend his contract, like he prefer to be 'regular' coach. + the NSC director dont like YKH, say bad things abt YKH in public.
From another point of view, who wants to sit in the hot seat of chief coach, head on the chopping block most times ? Esp if salary not much difference from 'regular' coach. i.e. if nobody wants YKH's position, BAM may try to pursuade YKH to stay.

Now you say by continuous attacking the players it does not show that I accept they will lose at times :o. Ok, again, please find me a single quote from me that will back your claims up.
I do not criticize all players. I only do that to those who dont perform because they think they are bigger than the game. Fyi, WMC is no world beater, I dont criticize her because she put in her heart and soul.
It is of course alright for you to insult BAM and shuttlers but it is BAD of me to criticise you. And of course, my maturity is in question but not yours.
Yes, of course LCW will never win on the world stage forever because he is mentally incapable -- that is the maturity of your statement. Sure, I can comprehend that.
Again, dont confuse yourself. You dont critize. You dish out personal/petty insults. And to jolt your memory, here's your statement; "And somehow, you seem to enjoy your own insults of players but at the same time you feel it is wrong for me to insult you"
And for your info, there is a difference between criticize & personal insults. A quick check with the dictionary will set you in the right path.

I think you didnt get Dato's statement.
We, Malaysia, is a major badminton playing country unlike South Africa, Brazil, Nepal, Nigeria etc etc. Our government every year invest tons of taxpayers money to hire the best coach out there, provide the best training facilities and put up financial rewards for results. I dont think South Africa invest like us in badminton. They are more into rugby and at every major rugby tournament, South Africans expect their team to deliver. For Brazil, its football. At every world cup, the national team is expected to win it.
Thus, Malaysians expect the same from our shuttlers. For all the money spent, we expect results.
Pemuda 07-09-2008, 08:19 AM Malaysian football is an embarrasement. :(
Totally, totally agree.
And Malaysian badminton is pretty close to an embarrassment as well. For all the money put into the game, we dont have an Olympic gold or WC to show yet. And the Thomas Cup is becoming a distant memory.

Why are you only quoting Nadal, Fedex and all?? They are not Malaysians la.
In the name of Malaysia Boleh, I think our shuttlers should look to our very own, Ashwita Ramesh Nair. In 2005, this then 9 year old girl made history. But MAS OCM chief Tunku said they doesnt set any target for medals in Olympics. According to him, the results in OG is very unpredictable , thus to set a target will be unrealistic.
This time around, MAS chances not only will come from Badminton. Cyling & Archery too , despite their low profile in preparing OG.
Positive or give more pressure to the players who've been prooved mentally weak for WC before ? That's the question....

Oh sori, wrong person, not Tunku from MOM, it was the Chinese guy, Datuk Ho Koh Chye, chief de mission for OG I think. It was just end of last week.
Yes, I've read bf the statement you posted abt cycling & archery, that was some time ago.
Press statement is press statement, depends on slant taken. DIfficult to explain, me give exple.
If you read Utusan's title, 14 April 2008 - "Josiah yakin raih pingat Olimpik"(Josiah confident of OG medal), what would you think ? Overconfident? Interviews from Star & NST on same day only talked abt their preparations only, no such statement.
Badminton : WMC change coach to Misbun, if read some press, one would think WMC conflict with WTat Meng. Got more exple, but me lazy to search.
OG Target was set by new Sports Minister, who has more power than MOM chief. BAM's target is also medal of any colour.
+ve or -ve is what chief coach can & cannot say in public. What YKH really thinks is another thing altogether.
YKH didnt complain abt hot seat, he cant do that & he wouldnt.
What I mean is me thinks nobody wants the chief coach job.

YKH didnt complain abt hot seat, he cant do that & he wouldnt.
What I mean is me thinks nobody wants the chief coach job.
Aiyaaaa ... Malaysia no need to issue anymore press statements or worry about this or that. Just go to Beijing, sample the Olympic atmosphere, make some new friends, gain some experience, show up and compete, party, do some touring, buy some souvenirs, eat some good food and then come back.
... and do it all over again in 4 years time. ;)

Have a nice day. Cheerios!
You are a joke when you tell me you don't insult players - your insiduous torments of players with your 'Malaysia Boleh' statements are all over the place. Go and find it yourself -- I don't have time.
Your attacks on KKK are well known here - from KKK wearing earings to blonde hair which all seems to disagree with you and they are personal (it is not just attacking their performances). So don't keep coming back to ask me to 'show me where I attacked them'.
Your comments about LCW is equally demeaning - you keep telling everyone that he has a mental weakness and you have no respect for his wins - and you keep saying he has not won anything.
You become unintelligible when you contradict yourself so much.

And you see my critizing of those big time Charlies amongst our shuttlers as an insult to them??? :o Ohh, very well then.

Yes, KKK is a big time Charlie. And I stand by my statement. Even Rexy is up the wall with his antics. And yes, I think he is all flash. If you cant accept my statement/opinion and thus see the need to hurl personal attacks, by all means, go ahead. It is your right.

Grow up, what is so demeaning bout my comments pertaining to LCW? The lad is known to break down during the big tournaments. I was stating the facts. Unless, the facts are so glaring to you that you see them as demeaning, then I got nothing to say.
LCW broke down in KL during the WC. Compare him to LD in terms of titles won, it is pretty obvious.
You become unintelligible when you contradict yourself so much.
Thank you. I reserve my comments on your intellectual ability.
Thank you very much.

For all your comments, you showed very little respect for LCW. You are keen to associate LCW with the WC loss only even though he has captured many SS's after that failure.
You write his chances off in the Olympics because of the WC loss. And you ridicule the person with all sorts of insiduous remarks. What more can I say.

I have made my stand on LCW not winning the gold in Beijing because I am not convinced he got the bottle to hack it in the Olympics where the pressure is the greatest. And I based my statement from his previous records, not only on his WC loss. And I will gladly eat humble pie should LCW take the gold in Beijing. Infact I will go bald.
You yourself have predicted two gold medals from badminton. I dont agree with that, but thats your opinion and I respect that.
And as a taxpayer myself, I believe I certainly have the right to comment, rant, whinge etc as our government invest our RM into the game every year.
This is a public forum. And there will be others who will not have the same opinion as you. We just got to agree to disagree la. This is what big boys do. No need to resort to personal or petty insults. When we talk about SS, lets take the big one, the All England.
Now, how many LCW have won todate?
Infact, if you look and analyse closely you will find that LCW have never made it to the AE final even once. Here, we have the AE, the most prestigious SS tournament, and LCW have never made it to the final.

But LCW, KKK/TBH ... these chaps are Malaysians. And they represent our nation. Our hard earned taxpayers RM are invested every year to provide them the best of everything. We hire the best coach out there. We provide them the best facilities and equipment. And where do you think that RM1 million reward and pension scheme will come from??? Is it so wrong to ask some telling questions like where is our Olympic gold, WC or Thomas Cup or even the AE titles??? And is it wrong for us to critize when our shuttlers failed to deliver because they strut about thinking they are bigger than the game?

What if they say...none of your business, it is you fault why you keep on providing us with what we actually never ask for in the first place.
But you keep on paying some portions of your tax to them, you demand them to do what you want and expect them to do, then they fail to live up to your expectations, then you get angry again and find fault on them... they are also humans....giving "unexpected and unwanted" excuses is also humane...:D
Pemuda 07-10-2008, 12:17 AM Then...what do you expect from them (Malaysian players)? They did not ask for such a reward. They did not ask for the best couch. They did not ask for the best facilities and equipment.
If the shuttlers are not looking at rewards. Did not ask for the best coach. Did not ask for the best facilities and equipment ... this only goes to show they are not hungry for success. Very simple, get rid of them and train up another batch that are hungry and determined.
It goes beyond the shuttlers. We need to look at the big picture and address the root cause. Not only badminton in Malaysia is faltering. We need to revamp the set up. In the first place, we should allow professionals to manage sports. Then we ought to steward everything based on results and performance. This way we weed out the passengers. Based everything on merit rather than the usual pampering or subsidy based.

might as well chip in here, dont believe LCW will get even into the semi. the pressure getting the first gold or silver for MAL will get to him. like him as a person but not his playing style, more like the old morten frost but smaller and faster, too passive.
cooler 07-10-2008, 02:52 AM hard to say, players reacted to pressure differently. Also, this is LCW second time around. LD has lots of pressure too.
The OG medalists are all the best for that week. I still say their world ranking and for how long for is still a better way to rank player's true level.
Shon Mo, JXP, alan budi are good examples

Well. to each his opinion. But I think he will win because he is no longer that passive as you said. The psychology sessions must have helped. He is believing himself now and it told the difference in the TC, where he beat LD easily. And there was pressure in that game as either of them has to win to give their country a chance.
And he is not coming out 'firing on all fours' immediately these days but paces himself well to conserve energy to get him past the 3rd game, if it comes to that. It is the right strategy - no more burn outs in the 3rd game.
might as well chip in here, dont believe LCW will get even into the semi. the pressure getting the first gold or silver for MAL will get to him. like him as a person but not his playing style, more like the old morten frost but smaller and faster, too passive.
I think you are not being fair to LCW, now world ranked just behind LD. LCW has experienced many ups and downs during his professional career and as pointed out, he has not won the AE yet just as Olympic Champion TH has also missed that prestigious trophy somehow. On the other hand Morten Frost has won the AE many times, though not as many as record holder, Rudy Hartono.
On current form, which I rate as a very useful guage to an athlete's performance at the forthcoming Beijing Olympics, LCW has proved many of his detractors wrong with his recent showing, particularly his demolition of LD (21-12, 21-14 in 36min) during the Jakarta Thomas Cup SF in May and he followed up with his decisive win over Simon Santoso ( 21-13, 21-5 in 29 min) for the Singapore Open crown in June after defeating Peter Gade 21-18, 21-13 in 37 min in the SF. After that LCW chose to remain at home to polish up on his "deficiencies" including the mental aspects to prepare for the gigantic Olympics. So LCW has come a long way and will be well-prepared to face all opponents next month in Beijing.
That is not to say he will beat everybody but he is as good as any of the other top-class candidates to capture the Olympic crown. LCW will certainly be in the small group of potential winners which includes LD, BCL, CJ, SDK,TH, PG, KJ, PSH and LHI. The form of the day will determine who will be eliminated first but very highly likely that the final two gladiators will come from this group.
So to relegate LCW to just the QF is not doing justice to the man who has come a long way and it is now time for him to reap his harvest, not unless something unpredictable along the way has set him back.
X Ball 07-10-2008, 03:49 AM So to relegate LCW to just the QF is not doing justice to the man who has come a long way and it is now time for him to reap his harvest, not unless something unpredictable along the way has set him back.

indra 07-10-2008, 03:51 AM My analysis....if LCW vs LD now...LCW will win....The present LCW is totally different from he was 3 months ago. Looking at their last match during the TC 2008, he was obviously the better player in almost all aspects.

as much as we like to see the dream final between LD and LCW my gut feeling is that one of them will not be in the final. if i'm in a hot air balloon and to pick a winner between them and will be out of the basket if i got it wrong i know who i'll bet my life on. so, for LCW or LD not to be in the final probably will be gone before the SF.

1. LinDan vs Park SungHwan

2. Lindan vs Bao Chun Lai
What happens if they are all in the same half of the draw?
On the other hand, being WR1 and WR2 respectively, LD and LCW will be separated and if they are able to eliminate all that come their way, they will most likely meet in the final! :p
Not unless a dark horse appears to spoil the party? Indra's TH for example who seems determined to make his last hurrah or Li Mao's proteges since he has an axe to grind with both LYB and LD?
Now with so many top-class players vying for the rare and precious Olympic crown, they will not want to mess up their own chances and will give their all to advance to the next stage of the competition.
The forthcoming Draw will be most interesting! :)
And I can't wait to witness a slice of the action in Beijing! ;)
Pemuda 07-10-2008, 09:09 PM Ha ha, you sure havent read the locked threads or didnt read the posts that have been deleted by the mods. Those of us who do have faith in LCW or Msian players have had "plenty of insults" thrown at us too by the same said person but did not reply in the same fashion ;):D.
Seriously, on your allegation of 'plenty of insults thrown at us' thingy, can you provide some proof that personal insults were indeed hurled?? I dont recall calling you any names, unless you consider me calling KKK a flash in the pan or big time Charlie as personal insult to you, then I guess I am guilty :o
Would appreciate you in chipping in rather than sniping from distance.
Pemuda 07-10-2008, 09:22 PM :D:D, You havent read the locked threads from the Prof Players section :D. "One Time Charlie" means one time only win and "Jinjang Joe" for certain quarters does not have good meaning.
Would you be insulted if as a hetreosexual Asian male, it's implied that you're a sissy or (worse than that).. ? I heard that hmmm 'JJ' nick can be interpreted to mean that too.
If you dont, eagle also dunno what to say liao.
Wait a minute here .... hold on please ... first of all, I believe I have never called KKK a 'One Time Charlie' :o. Would really appreciate you to get your facts right, please. :o:rolleyes: I mean if you want to make an allegation against someone, please la do some homework so that you have some credibility, at least.
I called KKK a big time Charlie. Yes. And yes, because of his hairdo and rings and what not, I did called him a Jinjang Joe BUT if you are now saying by calling KKK a big time Charlie and Jinjang Joe, I have insulted you instead, I am sorry I find you being comical.
... and by the way, is Jinjang Joe an insult?? Really, do enlighten me, where is it written that Jinjang Joe is an insult, please? Errr... if Jinjang Joe is an insult, then calling someone Ahmad or Aneh is an insult too eh?
I dont get what you are trying to imply with your 'sissy' statement. :(:o
Pemuda 07-10-2008, 09:26 PM Pemuda,
You are attempting a mission impossible here... Best of luck to you.
The word "civil" has a whole different meaning to some people:rolleyes: I know you will act like a civilized gentleman, but I can also warn you to be prepared for plenty of insults coming your way if you don't have faith in LCW making it in the OG08.
It is going to be an uphill battle I am afraid. But I am still going to say my piece.
Already there are some quarters in the Malaysia Boleh fans who take me calling KKK a big time Charlie as a personal insult to them.

In my case, I dont think MAS will win the gold in Beijing. I predict LCW to have a breakdown (as usual in big tournaments) and KKK/TBH to have a early tour of the Great Wall. I will shave my head bald should we win the gold. :D

And if you do prove it, he will come up with more excuses or more provocative statements. He gets a real thrill from you subcribing to his provocation - so I hope by now you know what he is all about.

You have got to be kidding me... you called those insults? Where in the hack did you find one word that he used that directly or indirectly "INSULTED" you? He was simply debating with you with his own opinions... let me show you proof of what petty insults are:
How about this... calling someone stupid...

http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?p=584304#post584304
How about this one... talk about a debate! guess who wrote it, yeah... you got that right!
"Wrong, Wrong, Wrong (read it musically please) ! UnBeknown to you poor souls, he is now armed with the latest MACintosh ! As always, if you are blinded by bias, you will remain the same. :D "
Now, last and not least... here is the one that cracks me up the most... this is one which one person insults his own IQ, and bite himself in the butt here:
First comes this:
"Let us forget this argument. We cannot base the performance of the past for the future, either way.
If they don't win today, it does not mean they will not win tomorrow, and even if they win today, it may not mean they will win tomorrow."
then read this...:p
From June 2007
" LCW is the man
and he is god send
Come WC in August
He will definitely be first !"
:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused: :confused::confused::confused:

It is no longer an uphill battle... I mean like you and them are not even close to being on the same pagae... pretty much reading two different books so to speak.
They consider your fair and logical debate as an insult, when there is not even one single word in your posts that directly or indirectly insulted them.

1st thing, you dont see eagle reply in anything that's close to that fashion. And eagle wasnt the one who got banned (and you know why), the mods are from different countries, they're open minded enuf.
You have to scroll back & forth to read, ;):p, I'm sure you dont have time to read all 20++ pages of some of them. And like I said, there were more, that's just 2 examples in 2008, you havent seen the 2007 ones, maybe the mods have deleted those too.:p
And Like I also said : the more graphic ones have already been deleted by the mods.
Finding people's post "comical" means finding that person downright stupid (i.e. implying "your post is so stupid, it's laughable" = it's worse than stupid) just an indirect way, which happens on a regular basis.
How would you feel if someone called you "senseless & childish" ?(I didnt post that link cos it just happened)
Or how come cannot understand sthing so elementary that a 3 year old also knows ? (read: very stupid)
It is worst when he mis-interpret the original statement & make a judgement based on that misinterpretation. And this misinterpretration just happened yet again.
And like I said, and in real life, calling someone "senseless & childish" , is an invite to get beaten up, seriously. And if I ever refer to someone that way in real life, I'll be sacked.
And like I said, one BCer even have found someone calling him "Chinaman" as insulting.
__________________________________________________ _______
And btw, I've read the link, I dont find as insulting as "senseless & childish" (read: brainless, totally no brain) or continously being branded as 'comical" (read : stupid or dumbo), which just happened again.
Unless of course, your definition of insult is those XXXX words & find "senseless" less insulting than "stupid". :DThere's the direct way & indirect way, the indirect way is worse, me thinks.
Anyway, <peace>, my apologies to our Jimbo:D
Jagdpanther 07-12-2008, 01:37 AM And finally, can we safely presume that this nonsense Malaysian civil war has officially ended?
Here, I can give you a suggestion: stay calm and cool your heads down. Done? Good. Then, you can begin writing all your insults/bashing/whatever you can give if your opponent's prediction goes disarray.
Now, you can wait for the Game. Let's see, who the real champion is, and whose prediction is correct.
After that, you are more than welcome to unleash all your bashings toward "opposing faction."
Simple, ne?
Please remember the true spirit of Ancient Olympics. In ancient Greece, Olympics was considered a holy ceasefire. Hence, nations waging war stopped their battles due to the upcoming Games. They opt to see who's better there. (CMIIW. I learned it in my Phys. ed. theory class). Why can't we modern people follow this noble action?

And out of courtesy for the thread starter Jimbo, we next stick to the topic:D:D
Out of courtesy to the thread starter, I think we should provide facts rather than spin i.e. "One time Charlie" .... I am still waiting for such a claim to be substantiated. :D;)
Pemuda 07-12-2008, 08:46 AM Never mind loh, then he'll get banned a 3rd time for it ;):p. The links are also for some ppl still think we're "ganging up" on him or "attacking" him. You also reply2 mah, save energy, have some satay :D:D
At least I dont put up wild empty unsubstantiated claim i.e "One time Charlie" and then try to wriggle away when being found out. :D
http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=839789&postcount=345 ... funny, why those who sit on that high horse chose to close the other eye when insults are thrown by certain quarters.
Pemuda 07-12-2008, 08:54 AM You have got to be kidding me... you called those insults?
:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused: :confused::confused::confused:
Yes, I saw Xball's statement. But for people such as eagle such comments are not insults. She may even consider it as music to her ears.
It is no wonder we call Malaysia, Bolehland!

The context in which you use 'Malaysia Boleh' is an insult to not just yourself but also all Malaysians.

In support of Eaglehelang, 'one time Charlie' or 'big time Charlie' is all in the same context - it was used to disgrace someone. You can't tell us it is not. You insult people and you try to put up excuses and arguments -- always asking people to substantiate when it is so evident.
X Ball 07-13-2008, 01:35 AM Where and when did bananakid insulted you?? I think you owe the man an apology, that is if you are big enough to own up.
I know an insult when I see one. And your support of him is an even bigger insult.

And yes, I know abt the above link too . Read again, I didnt say it's not an insult, I said I dont find as insulting as "senseless & childish". Stupid still got brain, senseless = totally brainless. Misinterpretation again. ;)
Remember, I dont even come close to calling you any of those stuff you called me or the rudeness you showed when I replied nicely. And what does eagle get for being nice -> attacking or showing how "comical" (read: stupid), or "senseless & childish", "shallow" etc, etc eagle is. Which continously happened over many months since 2007;).
And interpret my posts wrongly 90% of the time & keep on making noise(I didnt say "ranting") after it's pointed out it's wrong interpretation. Just happened 2 weeks ago.
And telling ppl not to do this & that (Swiss Open threads) , when other ppl tell you a bit only, get angry ("This is a public forum", yada, yada).;)
"Big time Charlie" I interpret as being very, very arrogant empty vessel, still not good meaning= insult. and truthfully, I just read that post as I missed it the 1st round.
And I did recall "one time charlie" too, somewhere your comment on LCW ;), I didnt just coin up the word. So, perhaps eagle remember wrong on that count. Happy?:D
I've actually forgotten abt "flash in the pan" till you mentioned it, not good meaning too.

Pemuda 07-13-2008, 09:33 PM The context in which you use 'Malaysia Boleh' is an insult to not just yourself but also all Malaysians.
The Malaysia Boleh 'success' of having the tallest flagpole, tallest pencil in the world, biggest ikan bakar grill, biggest roti canai, eye in sky etc is an insult to the intelligence to Malaysians. Our economy, sports, education, police, judicial etc are today's testament of Malaysia semua boleh.
... but I dont blame you for not knowing. I fully subscribe to the ; if a frog is placed in boiling water, it will jump out, but if it is placed in cold water that is slowly heated, it will never jump out.

If you said you recalled I used that 'One time Charlie', then please provide the evidence. Dont brush it off with "I think I recalled..." statement. Be responsible when you make an allegation, ok?
Big time Charlie, Jinjang Joe, Flash in the pan ... all I directed at our shuttlers who dont perform because of their unprofessional attitude. It was not directed at you. Understand the difference now??
Oh deary me ... Malaysia really boleh. :o:eek:

Hope not too late to join the fun....
Jinjang Joe = Is a 'Joe' who lives in Jinjang (not too sure KL or Selangor)
How about Ahmad who lives in a district called Batang Berjuntai (Perak state)
He would be called Ahmad Batang Berjuntai ?

I believe it all comes down to our maturity.
I mean, I am questioning why Malaysia, despite millions of RM being invested into badminton each year, we still cant win an Olympic gold, WC and that Thomas Cup is like a distant memory. This Olympic, we are talking about a RM1 million reward and a monthly pension of RM5,000 for life. That is a lot of taxpayers money! In view of our current economic situation what we are investing in badminton today is more than luxury. We provide our shuttlers with the best coaching out there. Provide the best facilities and equipment etc. So, whats wrong in us asking for some results??? Whats wrong in asking how come Denmark can win the WC & Olympic gold, but we are unable to do so?
Our Malaysian mentality is another big problem. Look at KKK/TBH as an example. They win one AE, they get big headed. Same with HH. As for LCW, his temperament and mentality is weak. Look at his record at AE & WC. But of course, we have some decent professionals like WMC.
On the side note, I think we dish out awards a little too soon. I think Nicoll David is world class and all. She deserved her success. BUT I think the 'Datukship' award came a little too soon. The State should have awarded her the Datukship after her retirement. You dont see David Beckham being awarded a "Sir" by the Queen. Being in her 20s, I think Nicoll is a little too young to hold that Datuk title. And of course, we dont want to see "Datukships" being dished out to more 20 yr olds or else the title will have no value.
This disease of ours is not only affecting our badminton. It is across all our other sports as well. We are shitty but rather than owning up and taking steps to improve, we sweep all our shortcomings under the carpet and anyone who criticise the state of our sports all hell will break lose from the Boleh fans. Malaysia Boleh is a sacred cow. People refuse to see things for what they are. Common sense no longer prevails when you look at things from the angle of cults. And 'Malaysia Boleh' coined by politicians to divert our attention from our failures have successfuly removed the common sense amongst us thus you will see our politicians and their lackeys all sitting pretty and holding high positions in all our sports associations/bodies today. And they will be there despite failures after failures ... at the expense of our taxpayers ... while we continue chanting Malaysia Boleh.
Pemuda 07-14-2008, 11:24 PM no politics here please.:D:D:D:cool:
Hold on to your pants. Dont be too quick to play the policeman here. Who is talking about politics here? By refering to Kit Siang, it does not mean one is talking politics here. ;)

Indra,
Malaysia is unique and over here how public funds are allocated are not as transparent as say Hong Kong, Singapore or Denmark etc. However, if RM11 million of public funds were used for Women's Sports and Fitness Foundation Malaysia (WSFFM) for some song and dance for over a year; http://www.sun2surf.com/article.cfm?id=21506, simple common sense will tell you that badminton being a bigger and more popular sport will definitely take up more than RM11 million. The training facilities, equipment, coaching, administrative, players & staff wages, travel and lodging etc etc ... we are certainly looking at more than RM11 million. This is just the yearly expenditures. What about public funds used to built and maintained training/medical facilities, stadium etc?
Dato Asbullah 07-15-2008, 01:11 PM Pemuda, please be very patient.
The 1 million reward will be safe in the gov pocket, coz no player can grab gold medal in the OG, including LCW.
Everytimes in the big tournament, mas players always be quoted as
- Best chances ever
- Favourites to win
But what is the results? We won nothing.
So, if LCW really make it to final, he also cant win the game, bcoz of the mentality is weak, according to you. This, i agree.
Pemuda, please be very patient.

(综合电)中国广州某高校的陈姓体育老师在观看羽毛球训练时,竟飞来横祸。 :crying::eek::crying:
