..according to the Kompas article, Taufik's participation will be discussed further with KOI (Indonesian Olympic Committe) as well as with PBSI (Indonesian National Badminton Organization) after the latest result reveals he has indeed come down with the dengue fever.
According to the report, Taufik is confirmed to have the dengue fever (low thrombocyte). And with Taufik's condition not improving since Tuesday, both sports bodies will discuss further on what decision they should make.
The INA badminton squad is scheduled to leave for China on August 4th.

**As kwun's reference points out, it should take at most 9 days for him to heal. Which, hopefully, should be enough time for Taufik to pack up and leave for Beijing.:cool:...And what's a "big" tournament without somekind of a Taufik "drama"...;)

Beijing, Jumat - Sejak absen berlatih Selasa lalu, Taufik Hidayat masih belum pulih dari sakitnya. Dengan kondisi tersebut, keikutsertaan Taufik di Olimpiade Beijing, 8-24 Juli, akan dibahas oleh Komite Olimpiade Indonesia dan PB PBSI.

"Taufik positif terkena demam berdarah, trombositnya rendah,” kata Wakil Kepala Biro Media dan Humas Komite Olahraga Nasional Indonesia (KONI) Firmansyah Gindo, Jumat (25/7) di Jakarta.>kern 251m<

Atas dasar kondisi tersebut, Firmansyah mengatakan, Komite Olimpiade Indonesia (KOI) dan PB PBSI akan berdiskusi lagi mengenai keikutsertaan Taufik di Olimpiade. Apalagi, jadwal keberangkatan tim bulu tangkis ke Beijing semakin dekat, yaitu pada 4 Agustus. Berdasarkan situs Olimpiade, bulu tangkis akan berlangsung 9-17 Agustus.

PB PBSI belum memberikan komentar soal kondisi Taufik. Ketua Bidang Pembinaan Prestasi Lius Pongoh yang tengah berada di Singapura menuju Beijing mengatakan, dia masih menunggu kabar terbaru mengenai Taufik.

Lius menuju Beijing untuk menghadiri undian yang akan berlangsung hari ini. Undian yang semula akan digelar 4 Agustus akan digelar hari ini di Hotel Henan Plaza, Beijing.

Seperti disebutkan dalam rilis dari Federasi Bulu Tangkis Dunia (BWF), Jumat, undian akan dipimpin Presiden BWF Dr Kang Young Joong. Selain itu, ada tiga orang lain yang akan membantu undian manual tersebut, termasuk tournament referee Dennis Li dari Hongkong.

Berdasarkan data BWF, cabang bulu tangkis kali ini akan diikuti atlet dari 50 negara. Jumlah tersebut meningkat dibandingkan Olimpade Athena 2004 yang diikuti peserta dari 33 negara.

Dalam peraturan disebutkan, nomor tunggal putra dan putri akan menggunakan sistem undian 64 besar sehingga akan ada enam babak yang dimulai dari babak pertama hingga final. Adapun untuk tiga nomor ganda akan dimulai dari babak 16 besar.

Indonesia akan diwakili 11 pemain pelatnas Cipayung pada Olimpiade kali ini. Dua wakil akan bermain di tunggal putra, yaitu Taufik dan Sony Dwi Kuncoro, dan satu wakil di tunggal putri melalui Maria Kristin.

Untuk nomor ganda, Indonesia juga memiliki dua wakil di ganda campuran dan ganda putra. Mereka adalah Nova Widianto/Liliyana Natsir dan Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa (ganda campuran) serta Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan dan Luluk Hadiyanto/Alvent Yulianto (ganda putra). Adapun untuk ganda putri, tim Merah-Putih akan mengandalkan Vita/Liliyana. (iya)

Lius Pongoh is in Beijing and will talk to BWF if possible to replace TH with Simon eventhough the closing date is over....slim chance and still no confirmation if TH really gets dengue fever as PBSI's doctor has not confirmed yet.....sigh!

6.1 A further player or pair will be taken from the BWF ranking list if a Member Association or relevant NOC notifies the BWF either that the NOC is not selecting a qualified player/pair or that a player/pair is unable to compete through injury or other unavoidable occurrence. This reallocation of the qualification place shall respect the maximum numbers of places per NOC and the attribution of qualification noted in Regulations 3.3.2 and 3.3.3.

6.4 If a player/pair cannot compete for a reason stated in Regulation 6.1, the substitute player/pair will be the next ranked player/pair as in Regulations 3.3.2, 3.3.3, and 3.3.4.

from what I gather in the media, at first I have the impression that PBSI (Lius Pongoh, Christian Hadinata) want to hide it that Taufik got dengue fever. Lius Pongoh even asked the reporters not ask the question again.
I hope Taufik has a speed recovery and will be sent to Beijing anyway...

It seems that PBSI has a different view with Taufik's family with regard to his illness. Agum Gumelar ask that Taufik's condition should be reported as it is.

Most likely TH will not be able to participate in this Olympic... :(

Dikatakan, Agum Gumelar meminta dirinya untuk merilis kabar terakhir tentang kondisi Taufik Hidayat. "Pak Agum meminta berita Taufik Hidayat harus diberitakan secara benar, apa adanya," jelas Gindo.

Seperti diketahui, Taufik mulai absen berlatih sejak hari Selasa lalu. Awalnya, penyakit yang diderita Taufik masih belum jelas bagaimana bisa Taufik masuk sebuah rumah sakit di bilangan Pondok Indah Jakarta Selatan. I guess that is what PBSI hope for, and many of us hope so, and this is something TH's father in law would disagree...
We still have to wait the final say on this.

btw, I think this news worth a separate thread and not just as a side news, so that other members who do not open this thread will also get the info.

It seems like there are so much conflicting news and reports on Taufik's condition. Now, the draws have been revealed & finalized, will it still be possible to take out Taufik's name?? And if it can't be modified and Taufik can't go, will WCH receive a W/O??....:confused:
All i've got to say is, what a drama... :p

Btw, in that bolanews.com article, it also mentions about the status of the other players who are training. They are also aware of TH's situation and are watching as well as keeping their health closely, as to not come down w/ the same type of illness. Imagine if others were to contract the same illness, prior to them leaving for Beijing, what a nightmare that would be for the INA squad...And also, PBSI's management has reminded the players to be responsible & keep themselves "clean", as urine tests were conducted this past Wednesday for all the players, at their training center.

btw, what makes me wonder is why PBSI wanted to hide the fact that Taufik got dengue fever? Why the denial?
Now that ist impossible to replace taufik with Simon, I guess PBSI keeps the hope alive that Taufik will recover soon and go ahead to defend his title. Taufik father in law come forward to say it clearly that Taufik indeed got DF (dengue fever) and that the truth abt his condition should be reported as it is.
Reuters reporter asks Taufik if he will be able to play, to which TH reply is "I am still sick, please ask the doctor."

We will still have to wait to the final decision.
Should we have a poll, whether or not TH will play in Beijing?

Patience, patience, byk2 sabar, my friend over the seas. Me already told him, so cool.:cool::D:D. I (and i see so did Limsy) agree that ppl should not celebrate over other ppl's misery. WCH, being a gentleman & himself had suffered illness & injury bf, I think does not think that way, he know how it's like to be the sufferer.

I hope Taufik recovers in record time & sincerely hope so. :D

It's highly improbable for someone who's just been treated for dengue to be out on court... unless he is a superman :p

:D:D no comment..one thing for sure..TH might be shocked to have full training....he did feel TOUGH...:eek::eek: his body is not used to it....:D thats why he rested....;)
..wanted to get away from all the hard training & get a few days of R & R...........but, maybe, to appear that he's ill because of over-training, he decided to spend a few days in the comfort of a hospital bed.....(if he was spending his time at his palatial home instead, people would wonder)....:rolleyes: ;)

Kim Hock has to buy tickets to watch team in action
KUALA LUMPUR: Do not be surprised if you see Malaysian badminton head coach Yap Kim Hock sitting among the spectators during the competition at the Beijing Olympics next month.

With only a limited number of Olympic accreditation passes issued, Kim Hock has been forced to rely on tickets to get into the Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium, the venue for badminton from Aug 9-17.

Without the pass, he is also unable to enter the Athletes Village.

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) had initially received three passes for officials and these were given to Misbun Sidek, Wong Tat Meng and Rexy Mainaky.

Misbun is the coach for singles players Lee Chong Wei and Wong Mew Choo while Tat Meng is in charge of veteran Wong Choong Hann.

Rexy takes care of the doubles pairs – Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah (men) and Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty (women).

They later applied for an additional one and it was given to team manager Datuk Lim Teong Kiat.

Kim Hock said this would be the first major tournament where he would not get on-court access to the players during the Games.

“I was disappointed when I heard about this at first but that’s not a big problem for me. I accepted the fact that the accreditations for non-athletes are limited at the Olympics. I will be with the team during the few days of training sessions before the competition starts,” he said.

Kim Hock is not the only one affected. Physical trainer Sean Sturgess and Frederick Tan, the mental trainer for Chong Wei and Mew Choo, will also have to purchase tickets to get into the venue.

The Malaysian team, comprising nine shuttlers, will leave for Beijing on Aug 5 and may have to train at a different court if they are unable to get immediate access to the competition venue.

In Athens four years ago, Misbun and Kim Hock went as singles and doubles coaches respectively

Well, anything that disagrees or counters, say, Egyptian wishes, positions, expectations or beliefs could be 'offensive' to most Egyptians. That doesn't mean the post or the poster should be marked as 'abusive'.

For example, I could go all year about how badly I want the US to lose in basketball. I might even say "The Cambodians should win. I want anyone but the Americans to win."

Now, that's surely not going to please any American.
Even so, it is not abuse... although it is offensive (to many).

More often than not, the content of a post (and the poster) irritates many of us.
But if we were to let anger rule our exasperation, we'd be blocking what we don't like.

IMHO, we should be blocking abuse and incitement, and not opinion :)

Now, there’s another 'scar’ on his left hand – a tattoo with the world “glory” – to remind him to fight against the odds and win honours for the country at the Beijing Olympic Games.
The stylish Kien Keat will be featuring in his first Olympic Games with Tan Boon Heong and hopes are high that the duo can make a difference for Malaysia in the men’s doubles event.

Watching the British badminton team warm up is exhausting in itself.
A bit of "keepy-uppy" is followed by what can only be described as a frenetic synchronised dance.

It's only then that the fencing-like parry and thrust of practice begins.
Lightening (sp ;):p) reflexes, power and timing are paramount as the shuttlecock whistles over the net in a blur of rackets.

The gymnasium reverberates to the sound of playful banter. The team are in high spirits.

Four years ago Gail Emms and Nathan Robertson gripped the nation as they took silver, and very nearly gold, in the mixed doubles.

Now they are back to try and go one better but they have stiff opposition - and they are only a few feet away in the form of British team-mates Donna Kellogg and Anthony Clark.

While Robertson has been nursing a serious ankle problem - fully fixed he tells me following an operation - Kellogg and Clark have stolen a march, denying the reigning world champions the European title.

The bad news is both pairs have lousy first round draws in Beijing, against the mighty Chinese.

"Bad for them, you mean," flashes back Emms in a manner akin to her instinctive net play. "They won't want to play us, all the pressure is on them." Kellogg and Clark are just as bullish even though they've never beaten their opponents. "We're fitter, stronger, faster now" says Clark, sounding like the Bionic man.

So what price an all-British final? It could happen. "It would be brilliant, we're all friends," says Emms who's playing with Kellogg in the women's doubles, though I swore I saw a glint in her eye as she added, "I hope they'll be no dirty tricks!"

Across the world, venue security at any kind of event is almost the same.

Our bags would be checked every time... and, after going through an assortment of cables, tapes, microphones, headphones, collars, gaffer tape, flashlights, tool sets, markers, cigarettes, lighters and windshields, they would pounce on the batteries. Unfortunately, professional camcorder batteries are big, bulky things that look menacing to the untrained eye.

(See the battery on the back of the camera?)

What's routinely strange is that almost no one bothers to check if the TV camera is actually a TV camera. (I say 'almost' because the Turkish police were careful enough to do it... they made us switch the camera on, shoot for about 15 seconds, rewind the tape and show them the recorded footage in the viewfinder.)

Contrary to what most people would think, journalists welcome tight security checks so long as it doesn't take too long. For one thing, it ensures that someone standing nearby isn't wearing a belt packed with extra-strong crackers ;)

..actually, as stated in the regulations, unless one has a Press/Media pass, they will monitor and restrict anyone carrying any unauthorized professional photog equipments into the playing venues. Loh and others who plan to bring their professional photog gears could try their luck...and hope the security guys will somehow forget the restrictions.;)

The problem is not with getting it in.
The problem is with unfurling it :)

China fears that protesters will wave banners with 'sensitive' messages, hoping to convey the protests to TV viewers the world over. As such, China views any banner larger than roughly 6x3 (feet) as 'dangerous' :rolleyes:

Also, messages in a language other than Mandarin will be viewed with even greater suspicion.

The smart thing to do is show the banner to the security chaps, get them to understand what it says and then wave it with abandon :p

There's a story abt Ami's role for Taufik victory in Athen.
Agum said in a media some 2 years ago, that Ami become Taufik's leading supporter in Athens. She and her parents stayed in a cruising ship during Olympic, and they found that many of the ship's crews were Indonesians!
So Amy took some of them to Taufik's final match and lead them cheering for TH.
What a story :)

Hendrawan, INA MS coach was amazed with Beijing...everything is so organized during the Olympics..he said that it did not feel like he is in China at all ( it is compliment)...
The village is very good and high standard....some rooms have water problem but they fixed it right away.....

Seems Beijing is very serious to prepare everything which related with OG from accommodation, media centre to cheerleaders. Maybe Beijing is the most enthusiastic host city of summer games so far...

After all, they've spent and invested millions (even billions) of dollars in modernizing the facility & area.

So Amy took some of them to Taufik's final match and lead them cheering for TH.

Yes, it's tricky trying to find the balance between Excess energy vs Excess luggage.Is it better to have Excess energy with Excess luggage or Limited energy with zero luggage? Let's hope limited energy with zero luggage prove right for TH.Remember PG won MO07? with an unscheduled medical holiday before the tournament? Who knows, a short (weekend) break to completely rest mind and body may turn out to be part of a winning preparation formula? Except in TH's case, the weekend is a week.Exceptional privilege as usual for him.
..in order to have excess energy, esp. in badminton, one must have limited or zero luggage. Esp. with his age, Taufik needs as less luggage as possible.;)
Hope his "Olympics-focused" training will carry him through.:cool:

I do not think Ami will go...ticket or ID is very tough...Each delegate will be given limted ID card.
Even Arifin Siregar has to surrender his opening ceremony ticket to Sutiyoso's wife....
Sutiyoso, acting as ABC chairman gets 1 ticket only.....

Been told that many players went to shops to buy new NIKE shoes...apparently NIKE released Chinese Olympics shoes and available in China only :eek:...been told that those shoes are based on Olympic Pandas' color and style.....cool!!

Some of the greatest European players were training in Hong Kong until this Sunday in order to get used to the weather and jet lag in Asia. They all practice very hard on court and one could see how well-prepared they are for the coming challenging game in Beijing before they fly off on Monday.

Tine Rasmussen is here, sweating and training hard with the others. She has won 3 Super Series this year, and she’s feeling good about her preparation in Hong Kong : “I get used to the conditions and today (Saturday) was the day I felt best. I definitely feel the humidity and I sweat a lot more when practicing, but it’s ok.”

The #6 seed thinks that the 3 Chinese and the Hong Kong player Wang Chen will be her greatest threats. As from the draw, she will probably meet Wang in the Quarter Final which will be a tough game. “I will get to the third round and looking forward to meet her.” she said. Not only physically, but mentally Tine has done some good homework. “I’ve prepared taking the pressure. The Olympics is so different, it’s an important tournament for everybody and everyone puts pressure on themselves to get far. It’s no difference for me than everybody. And of course, I think the Chinese get lots of pressure as well because of home court.” The lanky Dane pointed out that to play the best badminton is her goal in this game. “I cannot say how far I am going to reach. It’s about reaching the best level and then it can take me far.”

In the Men’s Single, Denmark has Peter Gade (photo) and Kenneth Jonassen, who are both seeded in their event. From the beginning of 2008, Peter has badly suffered from injuries and setbacks and he was just gone back to the court in Thomas Cup. “I’m still catching up. There are some ways to go before the form I want to be in the Olympics. In the last few weeks, I worked very hard to gain the last 10% and it’s getting closer now. I have no injuries so far. My form and my performance have improved a lot. My speed and explosiveness are getting better and better. Now I need my game on court to peak at the right time. I have few more days to go, so I believe I can reach a good level before the Olympics.” the top shuttler said. Looking at the draw, Peter will probably play against Japanese player Sato in the second round, who has beaten him in the Thomas Cup and will most likely meet Lin Dan in the Quarter Final. “Of course, Lin is the favorite but I believe I have a chance.” Though the draw looks very difficult for him, the Dane has a clear target. “I’d dream of getting a medal for my country. But still, this is Olympics. If you look at the past Olympics, a lot of strange things happened. I am going to enjoy the games and it’s a good tournament. In the beginning, my target is to go through the Quarter Final. From then on, I cannot expect anything and I have to take one match by one match. This is Olympics and you have to be very careful. I am now focusing on my first game.”

Another giant Dane, Jonassen (photo up), who was missed out in the Thomas Cup because of the back injuries, also felt satisfied with is preparation right now. “It’s coming along and I’m able to practice very hard. I’m pleased with my current form.” In the first round of the match, he will face a Korea’s player Lee Hyun II, which will be a tough game. “Of course it couldn’t be better, but I think it’s also bad for him to meet me. It’s an important game. I would say that there is more pressure on him to make a good tournament.” While talking about his target in this Olympics, the world #5 replies “I’ll see after my first match. If I win that, my target would definitely to get a medal. My chance is evenly good if I won the first match.” He then added, “I’ve played two Olympics before. I don’t have to prove anything anymore. Of course I will go out for the best. If I lost to a better player, it’d be alright. I think winning is not that important for me, so I don’t see much pressure on me but more on other players.”

A difficult draw lies ahead in the Men’s Double for Eriksen Jens and Lundgaard Hansen Martin who will play against Fu Haifeng and Cai Yun in the first round. “That will be a tough game for the Chinese too.” said by the tall Danes. Actually they do not have much pressure since this will be the 4th and 3rd time to take part in the Olympics. “I think there is much more pressure on the Chinese.” The experienced Danes added.

Mixed double Juhl/Laybourn (pictured) also were expecting to play in their first olympics and getting the last advices from their coach before D Day.

The preparation of Denmark Team is really good. “We hoped that we’ve top level right now. We still have one week to go before the games and we expected to peak in about 10-12 days.” said Head Coach Steen Pedersen. Even coming across to those “favorites”, “We’ll try our very best to create some upsets.” He added.

The Denmark Team will leave to Beijing on Monday and they are all ready for their game started from the 9th, August.

Oh, I don't think its anectodal at all. :)
As far as I know, Athens olympic is where TH started to know Ami.
They're not sweetheart yet then.
Maybe Ami was simply an Indonesian supporter then, and she tried to get as many Indonesians as she could get to support an Indonesian player in his final match. So she took the crews who were not on duties that day, to the final match.
And Agum Gumelar (Ami's father, then KONI chief) said that Ami with her 'cempreng' voice would yell "Siapa kitaaa (who are we)?" and those crews would answer "In-do-ne-sia!"
(I think you still can find in those old Athens Olympic forum how a poster wondered how in the final day all of sudden there were many Indonesian supporters!)
