I choose the veteran warhorses - Flandy & Vita :)

I pick Flandy and Vita because I don't believe in Nova in such a big event like this. I hope he proves me wrong, though.

I believe its BC moderators who change that... I think members are not allowed to use the names of famous figure in badminton (Li Yong Bo, Koo Kien Kiat etc), and not allowed to pretend as them. Anyway welcome onboard, LYB_fan.

Nova Widianto / Liliyana Natsir is the more stable pair, but if Zheng and Gao peaked at the right time they are unstoppable. I picked Zheng and Gao for this reason.

But like many others, my heart tend to go for Flandy and Vita.

Haven't seen Zheng/Gao recently, but Nova/Butet seem like the #1 pair right now. I'm going with the Indonesians...

The draw looks reasonably tough for Nova Widianto/Liliyana Natsir [1] and Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa [3].

Nova/Butet's path to FINAL:
R16 vs Han Sang Hoon/Hwang Yu Mi -- the Koreans are tricky opponent as always.
QF vs Sudket Prapakamol/Saralee Thoungthongkam -- under normal form, Nova/Butet should prevail, just like they did twice this year. However, they have been beaten by Sudket/Saralee too.
SF vs either He Hanbin/Yu Yang [4] or Robert Mateusiak/Nadiezda Kostiuczyk -- the Chinese pair would have to beat Anthony Clark/Donna Kellogg in R16.

Flandy/Vita's path to FINAL:
R16 vs Kristoff Hopp/Birgit Overzier -- a reasonable first tie, although Flandy/Vita always have a problem of a good start.
QF vs Thomas Laybourn/Kamilla Rytter Juhl -- another European opponent possibly.

Nova/Lilyana are more stable vs Gao Ling/Zheng Bo, any matchup between them, I will pick INA.

Unfortunately, they are not so stable vs Europeans, esp. Danish pairs.

In turn, Danes are hopeless vs CHN.

In the end, maybe Clark/Kellogg could surprise if Kellogg can hold her temper.

It's a shame that the finalists from Athens (except for Zhang Jun) are now first-round rivals :(

Zheng Bo is no Zhang Jun - but, on paper, the Chinese duo is likely to prevail.

However, one aspect could change this equation in the British pair's favour - their amazing and eerily intuitive on-court interaction ;)

If, on that day, the instinctive communication lines between Emms and Robertson work fine, there will be no stopping the British pair :rolleyes:

Can't measure Emms/Robertson's form, they've been out so long. Match fitness could play against them. I would rate Clark/Kellogg as better prepared.

One thing I worry most from Nova/Lily is their consistency. Especially Nova.

It's just, well, when I think he'll lost, he wins (latest example: SIN SS). However, when I expect him to win, he loses (latest example: INA SS).:mad::o

although i selected ZB/GL for the gold, believe they will have a difficult time against NR/GE... it will be an interesting event

oh no! two of my favorite XD pairs will fight later: emms/robertson vs gao/zheng. now i'm confused. i don't know who i want to win.

I hope emms and robertson would lessen their unforced errors. They're both great players. I just think they need more focus and concentration. Emms is a fantastic front court player, hands down. she just needs to improve her defense. i know crouch defense is one of her favorite shots, but she just needs to make sure that she hits the shuttle. but when it comes to aggressiveness, i salute emms.

now, in order for them to beat the chinese pair, i think they should tire zeng, as gao ling is also very good in the front court.

their match is gonna be exciting.

If Nathan is reading this, please focus on the game and do not get upset unnecessarily.

He started yelling 'f*** yeah, F*** yahs' at the chinese crowd.

I read somewhere that before OG started, Robertson and Emms vowed to 'silent' the Chinese crowd; and they did it for real. I saw him jumping and yelling after winning the match but I didnt know that he said F word to the crowd; whatever the reason, that's not tolerable! Badminton is a gentleman's game, not some kinda ghetto game.

Indeed. There were a few shots of the crowd when he was celebrating and some of them were in shock at the way he was showing of his biceps and swearing. Awful stuff. Others looked with raised eyebrows, others actually booed.

I tried lip reading last night. It was hard to make out what Nathan's saying, but I think you're right. He said "F*** yeah. Oh my God!" And he was facing the camera, looking up; thus, it seems like he's not addressing it to the crowd but to himself. Maybe he just couldn't believe that they won after facing the thoughest gold medal contender.

Now with the bicep flexing, I'm assuming that Nathan was just too elated and overwhelmed of their victory. Totally understandable. Besides, he shook hands with the Chinese pairs, acknowledging that it was a tough game.

As for Gao Ling. She's really amazing. She was all smiles after their defeat. She was such a good sport. And during the game, I think she was calming Zheng Bo down, as it was obvious that he was under a lot of pressure, being his first time in the olympics and all.

The only problem I had with the Chinese is that when Gao Ling realized how much errors Zheng Bo has been committing, she began to lose trust on him and thus exerted too much effort intercepting the shuttle from the front court, thus, causing a weak clear, opening an opportunity for the English to kill the shuttle. They should have maintained their composure especially that they had a good lead.
