Oldhand 07-23-2008, 12:19 AM I choose the veteran warhorses - Flandy & Vita :) Ningtyas 07-23-2008, 12:27 AM I pick Flandy and Vita because I don't believe in Nova in such a big event like this. I hope he proves me wrong, though. kwun 07-23-2008, 12:29 AM heart says Sudket/Saralee, but brain says Zheng/Gao Louisa 07-23-2008, 12:40 AM heart says Flandy/Vita, but brain says Nova/Liliyana, ZB/GL, LYD/LHJ... I think members are not allowed to use the names of famous figure in badminton (Li Yong Bo, Koo Kien Kiat etc), and not allowed to pretend as them. Anyway welcome onboard, LYB_fan. xXazn_romeoXx 07-23-2008, 11:36 PM it's such a big toss up lol...heart says Mike Beres/Valorie Loker, Zheng Bo/Gao Ling, but the brain says it can be anyone on that list! yyclub 07-24-2008, 12:10 AM Ina.................. leonardklh 07-24-2008, 10:19 AM zheng bo/gao ling for sure... Wong8Egg 07-24-2008, 01:55 PM Nova Widianto / Liliyana Natsir is the more stable pair, but if Zheng and Gao peaked at the right time they are unstoppable. I picked Zheng and Gao for this reason. But like many others, my heart tend to go for Flandy and Vita. Athelete1234 07-24-2008, 06:57 PM Haven't seen Zheng/Gao recently, but Nova/Butet seem like the #1 pair right now. I'm going with the Indonesians... Jagdpanther 07-25-2008, 05:12 AM I originally wanted to pick Flandy/Vita, but then I remembered how they were decimated by Zheng/Gao in INA SS... cooler 07-25-2008, 03:29 PM I originally wanted to pick Flandy/Vita, but then I remembered how they were decimated by Zheng/Gao in INA SS...ya, vita keep falling down:p Dy_e4ia_TUC 07-25-2008, 07:56 PM ya, vita keep falling down:p no, she's not. You"ll Never Walk Alone samuel882 07-27-2008, 07:55 PM heart says Sudket/Saralee, but brain says Zheng/Gao It certainly won't be wrong if follow the heart of Kwun:D badMania 07-27-2008, 11:15 PM The draw looks reasonably tough for Nova Widianto/Liliyana Natsir [1] and Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa [3]. Nova/Butet's path to FINAL: R16 vs Han Sang Hoon/Hwang Yu Mi -- the Koreans are tricky opponent as always. QF vs Sudket Prapakamol/Saralee Thoungthongkam -- under normal form, Nova/Butet should prevail, just like they did twice this year. However, they have been beaten by Sudket/Saralee too. SF vs either He Hanbin/Yu Yang [4] or Robert Mateusiak/Nadiezda Kostiuczyk -- the Chinese pair would have to beat Anthony Clark/Donna Kellogg in R16. Flandy/Vita's path to FINAL: R16 vs Kristoff Hopp/Birgit Overzier -- a reasonable first tie, although Flandy/Vita always have a problem of a good start. QF vs Thomas Laybourn/Kamilla Rytter Juhl -- another European opponent possibly. SF vs either Zheng Bo/Gao Ling [2] or Nathan Robertson/Gail Emms or Lee Yong Dae/Lee Hyo Jung -- the Chinese pair would have 2 tough pairs to beat right from the first round. george@chongwei 07-27-2008, 11:19 PM let us not forgeting he han bin and yu yang too..!!! a strong contender for the OG08 GOLD TOO.!:) samuel882 07-28-2008, 12:02 AM Sudket is the only MD player who can handle tomboys now :p renly 07-28-2008, 12:36 AM INA xd always come up big in big event. they are thingking about big bonus awaiting for them if they bring back gold.$50 000 each hansonlouphers 07-28-2008, 02:24 AM I think they will get $100.000 each. Hoho. . I was wrong. i hope INA players wont have many error prone in each game. Always wish they luck. . :) robin7 07-28-2008, 06:08 AM Based on the draw, my vote goes to Nova/Liliyana... vivian_cheng 07-28-2008, 09:43 AM zhengbo/gaolin gold nova/lilyana silver he hanbin/yuyang or flandy/vita bronze limsy 07-28-2008, 09:49 AM zhengbo/gaolin gold nova/lilyana silver he hanbin/yuyang or flandy/vita bronze welcome to bc...^^... abedeng 07-28-2008, 10:01 PM Nova/Lilyana are more stable vs Gao Ling/Zheng Bo, any matchup between them, I will pick INA. Unfortunately, they are not so stable vs Europeans, esp. Danish pairs. In turn, Danes are hopeless vs CHN. In the end, maybe Clark/Kellogg could surprise if Kellogg can hold her temper. narnia 07-28-2008, 10:30 PM I feel that HSH/HYM will upset NW/LN in the 1st Round. Allegedly so. They have done some quite bullish interviews recently so yes. It certainly has the potential for a great match, and because it is the first round and people do not know where they both are form wise the anticipation is killing me! Oldhand 07-29-2008, 03:20 AM Allegedly so. They have done some quite bullish interviews recently so yes. It certainly has the potential for a great match, and because it is the first round and people do not know where they both are form wise the anticipation is killing me! It's a shame that the finalists from Athens (except for Zhang Jun) are now first-round rivals :( Zheng Bo is no Zhang Jun - but, on paper, the Chinese duo is likely to prevail. However, one aspect could change this equation in the British pair's favour - their amazing and eerily intuitive on-court interaction ;) If, on that day, the instinctive communication lines between Emms and Robertson work fine, there will be no stopping the British pair  abedeng 07-29-2008, 04:09 AM Can't measure Emms/Robertson's form, they've been out so long. Match fitness could play against them. I would rate Clark/Kellogg as better prepared. limsy 07-29-2008, 06:30 AM Can't measure Emms/Robertson's form, they've been out so long. Bring one gold for INA!!! yes.... i will support them all out Jagdpanther 08-07-2008, 07:08 AM One thing I worry most from Nova/Lily is their consistency. Especially Nova. However, when I expect him to win, he loses (latest example: INA SS).:o z3048018 08-07-2008, 11:46 AM although i selected ZB/GL for the gold, believe they will have a difficult time against NR/GE... it will be an interesting event samuel882 08-07-2008, 07:37 PM HYM/HSH will be a the most unexpected XD pair ! Krisna 08-08-2008, 12:03 AM One thing I worry most from Nova/Lily is their consistency. Especially Nova. Nova better be consistent this next 2 weeks... He is 32+ years old... I hope emms and robertson would lessen their unforced errors. They're both great players. I just think they need more focus and concentration. Emms is a fantastic front court player, hands down. she just needs to improve her defense. i know crouch defense is one of her favorite shots, but she just needs to make sure that she hits the shuttle. but when it comes to aggressiveness, i salute emms. now, in order for them to beat the chinese pair, i think they should tire zeng, as gao ling is also very good in the front court. their match is gonna be exciting. N4ruto 08-12-2008, 04:18 AM If Nathan is reading this, please focus on the game and do not get upset unnecessarily. FuWang 08-12-2008, 07:02 AM Gao-Zheng lose the game.... Mostly for Ling. :( It was a more than decent game, but Ling and Zheng wern't really themselves, whereas Robertson and Emms were better than they've ever been. When both pairs are at their best, the chinese are still the better pair, by far- but well done R and E for fighting so hard for it. Though Im quite annoyed at Robertsons celebrations. He started yelling 'f*** yeah, F*** yahs' at the chinese crowd. venkatesh 08-12-2008, 01:10 PM yup. emms and robertson won. maybe they read my advice :o i'm sad for gao-zhen. they're also my favorite. oh well ... you win some, you lose some. go emms-robertson I hope emms and robertson would lessen their unforced errors. I saw him jumping and yelling after winning the match but I didnt know that he said F word to the crowd; whatever the reason, that's not tolerable! Badminton is a gentleman's game, not some kinda ghetto game. zheng-bo-rox 08-12-2008, 01:43 PM I read somewhere that before OG started, Robertson and Emms vowed to 'silent' the Chinese crowd; and they did it for real. I saw him jumping and yelling after winning the match but I didnt know that he said F word to the crowd; whatever the reason, that's not tolerable! Badminton is a gentleman's game, not some kinda ghetto game. Indeed. There were a few shots of the crowd when he was celebrating and some of them were in shock at the way he was showing of his biceps and swearing. Awful stuff. Others looked with raised eyebrows, others actually booed. Vomit 08-13-2008, 03:12 PM lol you make it sound like he was standing there hurling abuse at the crowd. The way I saw it he ran around looked like he said 'f* yeah oh my god'(not even facing the crowd) posed and started shaking hands - really not as bad as people are making out! Emms and Robertson will hopefully go all the way - aslong as robertson's earlyer surgery doesn't give him any trouble! venkatesh 08-14-2008, 12:35 AM lol you make it sound like he was standing there hurling abuse at the crowd. I tried lip reading last night. It was hard to make out what Nathan's saying, but I think you're right. He said "F*** yeah. Oh my God!" And he was facing the camera, looking up; thus, it seems like he's not addressing it to the crowd but to himself. Maybe he just couldn't believe that they won after facing the thoughest gold medal contender. Now with the bicep flexing, I'm assuming that Nathan was just too elated and overwhelmed of their victory. Totally understandable. Besides, he shook hands with the Chinese pairs, acknowledging that it was a tough game. As for Gao Ling. She's really amazing. She was all smiles after their defeat. She was such a good sport. And during the game, I think she was calming Zheng Bo down, as it was obvious that he was under a lot of pressure, being his first time in the olympics and all. The only problem I had with the Chinese is that when Gao Ling realized how much errors Zheng Bo has been committing, she began to lose trust on him and thus exerted too much effort intercepting the shuttle from the front court, thus, causing a weak clear, opening an opportunity for the English to kill the shuttle. They should have maintained their composure especially that they had a good lead. |
