george@chongwei 08-01-2008, 12:21 AM Injured Sharapova out of Olympics
World number three Maria Sharapova will miss the Beijing Olympics because of a shoulder injury.
The problem caused the 21-year-old Russian to withdraw from this week's WTA Rogers Open in Montreal.
She was in pain in her second-round 7-5 5-7 6-2 win over Poland's Marta Domachowska and an MRI scan revealed two small tears.
"This is something that needs a lot of time to heal. It really hurts me to say I have to miss the Olympics," she said.
"After Wednesday's match I knew there was something seriously wrong with my shoulder," added Sharapova on her official website.
"After taking a few different exams and MRI's, the doctors found two small tears in the tendons of my shoulder.
"There are so many mixed feelings because on Wednesday night they were almost positive there was something wrong with my nerve, which could have ultimately been much more serious.
"But after Thursday morning's tests, for the first time in a while, they were able to give me a different answer and a different problem."
Sharapova is also a doubt for the US Open, which starts on 25 August in New York.

CLELY 08-02-2008, 12:28 AM Well, the glamorous Sharapova is still 21 y.o. so she may try again 4 years later in London...
Meanwhile tennis World #1 Roger Federer will become SUI flag-bearer for second time at Beijing Olympics after Athens 2004, here's the info (taken from AP through Yahoo!News) :
Federer to carry Switzerland’s flag
7 hours, 52 minutes ago
BERN, Switzerland (AP)—Roger Federer will carry the Swiss flag at the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics.
The top-ranked tennis player will celebrate his 27th birthday next Friday by being his country’s standard bearer for the second straight Olympics.
“It’s wonderful that I can carry the flag for the Swiss delegation on my birthday,” Federer said in a statement released Friday on the Swiss Olympic Web site.
Federer has struggled with his form this year, and was upset again on Thursday, losing to Ivo Karlovic in the third round of the Cincinnati Masters.
He now risks losing his No. 1 ranking after 235 weeks to Rafael Nadal if the Spaniard wins the Cincinnati tournament. Nadal beat Federer in both the French Open and Wimbledon finals this year.
Still, winning an Olympic gold medal could help salvage what has been a disappointing year for Federer, in which he has failed to add to his 12 Grand Slam singles titles.
“I still have a score to settle with the Olympics and being handed this honor for a second time will give me extra motivation,” he said.
Federer was the top seed at Athens four years ago but lost in the second round to Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic.
ctjcad 08-02-2008, 01:18 AM ..Federer was a "nervous Nellie", 4 yrs ago, in Athens...that's almost as bad as LinDan's upset..;)

CLELY 08-08-2008, 01:15 AM It's definitely tough draw for current world #1 Rafael Nadal with Murray and Djokovic are possible opponent at quarter and semifinal respectively.
leonardklh 08-08-2008, 04:00 AM rafael nadal world number 1 dy? r u sure? i thought havent? still with roger federer?
modious 08-08-2008, 04:09 AM The current world number 1 is Federer, not Nadal.
However come 18 Aug, Nadal will be the world #1.
ShadowFury 08-10-2008, 11:59 AM you guys know that federer was the best when he was just 23 also right? Federer was at his peak 4 years ago,the fact that he's still dominating at his age is amazing.Nadals only beating him because his game revolves around running around and power, 4 years later nadals isnt gonna be number 1, his power is gonna decrece his speed is gonna go down, and by that point, i doubt hes gonna have won as many titles as federer has won.
robin7 08-10-2008, 06:27 PM We can't foresee what is gonna happen next year, let alone 4 years. Many thought Federer will surpass Sampras' 14 GS titles when Federer won his 12th GS at USO last year.
I guess Nadal will change his playing style when he gets older. It is still too early to talk about it now...
george@chongwei 08-10-2008, 08:49 PM haiya...ana ivanovic had also withdrew from the beijing olyimpic:(
demolidor 08-11-2008, 08:02 AM  Andy Murray out!! Against Lu of Taiwan ...
ShadowFury 08-11-2008, 06:45 PM =O you dont think federer can win more than 14 GS? Take tiger woods for example, currently he is called the best of this time, and one of the best ever. But for one year, he didnt win a single big tournament, people had thought that his play was on the decline, but then the next year he went on a tear winning many tournaments. Federer is allowed to have 1 bad year, people cant start counting him out already. And i know we cant start guessing whats going to happen in 4 years, but if you watch nadals playing style, its all physical, his physique cant stay like that forever. And in the match im watching now, nadals having trouble beating the itilan.
robin7 08-11-2008, 06:59 PM  Andy Murray out!! Against Lu of Taiwan ...
Unexpected but good news to Nadal. Ferrer out too.
Felix. 08-12-2008, 02:11 PM Did anyone watch Serena W's match against Stosur?
Holy molly. She played really well, like in 01/02.
robin7 08-14-2008, 08:18 AM Federer is on the verge of losing his QF against Blake.
Blake upset Federer 64 76(2).
Bill Gates is applauding for Blake.
Federer is out of Olympic.
robin7 08-14-2008, 09:58 AM OMG, Li Na's backhand down the line was clearly wide but called good. But Venus didn't challenge and handed Li Na the 1st game.
Felix. 08-14-2008, 10:08 AM Venus is an error machine right now. How many double faults does she have?
And the crowd cracked me up. They cheered on errors and even double faults.
