View Full Version : Copenhagen Masters 2008?
metalmon1188 08-14-2008, 08:53 AM how come this year it is not being held?
and one more question, since it is a high ranking invitational tournament, how come players such as LCW, LD aint invited?
PlayaFromMalaya 08-14-2008, 09:04 AM no ranking points , no one wants to join..
CLELY 08-25-2008, 01:03 AM From BWF calendar, Copenhagen Masters 2008 will be held from 27 to 29 December/08 to stage MS, WS and MD matches. Yup, this invitational tourney doesn't provide any ranking points only prize money and the high calibre players usually skip it except top-Danish shuttlers.
ctjcad 08-25-2008, 07:53 AM ..our Danish' BC correspondents, yannie & anneskyt, to fill us in on this tourney...Maybe they're still in a holiday/vacation mode..;)

ctjcad 11-13-2008, 07:23 PM ..since it'll probably be pretty darn chilly in Copenhagen, during this tourney, some say this tournamet is called:
"The cosiest badminton tournament in the world!" http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/39.gif...hmmm, if so, then i hope they'll provide blankets, gloves, socks and warm Starbucks coffee for the spectators... ;)
huangkwokhau 11-22-2008, 12:44 AM Sony and Kido/Setiawan had been invited and they have accepted....Th was not invited this time eventhough he expressed his desire to participate.

if you want M'sian senior/veteran players in MD, then just:
-change Teo Kok Siang & Mak Hee Chun's names on their shirts to Koo Kien Keat & Tan Boon Heong or the Fuzzies (Tazari & Fairuzizuan) or the Uncles (CTF & LWW)...
-if you want a MS from CHN, then just:
change Guo Zhendong & Xie Zhongbo's names on their shirts to LinDan or Bao ChunLai or Chen Jin...
;)
of course, more photo ops and other things:D

chris-ccc 12-19-2008, 08:49 PM Can anyone explain why this tournament is so prestige? And why only three events are present?
.
jchan04 ... Because this tournament is a private tournament.
BWF and other National Associations are not involved.
Denmark is presenting this tournament for their home Badminton lovers to watch.
I think Danish spectators going to this tournament will be hoping to watch PG vs WCH in an exciting match in their group pool, to be played on Sunday 28-Dec-2008.
WCH just defeated PG at the 2008 Super Series Masters played yesterday, Friday 19-Dec-2008. I am sure that Badminton fans in Denmark will all be hoping that PG could defeat WCH at their 2008 Copenhagen Masters.

Agree, they need to recharge their fitness after marathon match at SS Masters Finals. The schedule of CM and MAS SS is so close, one week only to prepare isn't effective.

WCH defeated JP: 21-11, 21-17.
PG defeated JP: 21-17, 20-22, 21-12.

CLELY 12-27-2008, 09:13 PM Kido/Setiawan will start their match today, against Polish pair Logosz/Mateusiak and local hope Boe/Mogensen. After won yesterday, SDK and Firda will face tough opponents in their second match, Kenneth Jonassen and Tine Rasmussen respectively.
badMania 12-27-2008, 09:15 PM So, it's Sony Dwi Kuncoro vs Kenneth Jonassen in the MS for today; Adriyanti Firdasari vs Tine Rasmussen in the WS, and 2 MD matches:
Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan vs Michal Logosz/Robert Mateusiak @ 1pm
and Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan vs Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen in the evening session staring @ 7pm.
I think Sony can beat Kenneth, while Kido/Hendra should secure both wins, with more work needed for the second match.

7 smash winners for the INA pair vs 19 for the POL pair

Yeah, the Chinese squad will skip KOR SS and All England become their first SS tournament next year.
As predicted, home shuttlers won all titles and 9th title for Peter Gade, congratz!
Smautf 12-31-2008, 01:00 PM hmm.....Wacha retired....wonder what happened to him.....
...Wacha took a dive to retrieve a shot and scraped his racket hand on the floor.
Kido was definitely not at full strength - very few full power smashes.
Unusual was to see WCH faulted twice for hitting the ceiling - I've never come across this before at an international tournament. He was not at all pleased.
Anyone notice a drift in this hall?- Pi Hongyan chose to receive at the LH end even though she won the toss against XH, so I think she was choosing to hit into the drift. BTW fellas, she was at this tourney with her BF...sorry!
Special guest in the audience on finals day was Camilla Martin, and there were also presentations to retiring Danish players Martin Lungaard, Jens Erikson and Kenneth Jonassen as well as Danish National Coach Stig Pedersen. Tine Rasmussen won player of the year award which, so my Danish speaking friend told me, is worth all of £1000...embarrassing if this is true.
Keep an eye out for Mak/Teo, and it's worth trying to get to see Firdisari playing - a natural around the court reminiscent of Susi Susanti.
Another nice event to attend, although I did find myself occasionally wishing the old scoring system was still in use, but let's no go there for now...
Best wishes,
Smautf
