as far as I know, LCW whack Simon like kid
during SO final...
LCW did beat Sony and TH and so do Sony and
TH beat LCW...but i did not see LCW lost to unknown
players like Du Peng Yu or Anup Sidhar...
i think beside winning, losing to which players also
count...at least LCW lost to established players...
no doubt he is 2nd best, but in term of consistency..
i think he is not losing...

LCW is a credible, deserving world number 1.How many MS WN1 are there in the past 5 years?
If you're trying to belittle LCW's efforts, let me enlighten you about how LD won his big tournament titles.LD has won his big tournament titles because he has the fortune of teammates waiting for him either in the Semi-finals or finals.
If LCW had the same fortune of that pattern,LCW would also have no problem winning big titles. The fact that LCW is able to reach WN1, on his own steam, on account of reaching SF,finals and winning titles consistently, speaks highly of his calibre.
This is not to question LD's achievements but do you want the pattern of how LD bag his big titles listed here to open your eyes and widen your mind? Better still, why don't you research it and list out here?
There's a high chance I could be wrong and it'll be great for you to correct me.
yeh~totally agree with u. LCW deserving that.:)
Because his consistency n established.
As LD say: he is the best. we're in the same level, may be he is too tire(:confused:physical or spiritual:confused:)

since we are talking about LD and LCW, of course the scores are the result of the match between LD and LCW.
How about this score, after 21-12, 21-8. the very next time they meet again (about 3 months later), 21-18, 21-8. The Datuk just loves the 8s.

According to the New Straits Times (http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/NST/Saturday/Sport/2427165/Article/index_html), Lee Chong Wei wants to win the national title 10 times... that too, consecutively

So, does it mean that he aims to improve far beyond his current skills? :)

Or does it mean that he sees no credible opponent emerging in the next three years? (That's right up to the 2012 London Olympics!)

Many have questioned about Lee Chong Wei's mental strength.

We now have LCW winning 7 consecutive national titles. Doesn't it tell us something?

It's a great achievement. Wonder what is the record, similar to this, for other sports and/or for other nations. Must check the Guinness Book of Records one day.

If LCW is determined to win 10 consecutive national titles, then he must be determined to be Malaysia No.1 right up to the 2012 London Olympics.

Isn't LCW setting double pressure for himself ... to become the first Malaysian to win a 10th consecutive Badminton national title, and to become the first Malaysian to win an Olympic gold medal?

Let's hope that LCW can do it.

I'm one of those who have maintained that Lee Chong Wei doesn't have the mental strength to cover the last mile at the biggest events. Um, he has yet to show that my idea is a mistaken one :)

The fact that he has won the national title seven times in succession does show that he is great player... but it also shows how weak Malaysia's second-rung line-up is.

As for 10 consecutive national titles, it is hardly a record.
Squash legend Jahangir Khan won the British Open 10 consecutive times!
And, note this, the British Open is an international title ;)

Any attempt at comparison would be a terrible mistake.
Over five years (1981 to 1986), Jahangir Khan won 555 matches - consecutively!

Here is a question for you, name me another Jahanger Khan in squash?
Jansher Khan :)

He won the World Open eight times - a record - and would have won again in 1997 if the event had not been held in Malaysia (for legal reasons, he couldn't enter the country). Jansher also won the British Open six times consecutively.

In all, he won 99 international tournaments and was the World # 1 for over six years.

Why compare such legend with LCW? Why not Rudy Hartono? Is this comparison even come close to the being 'fair'.

My post was in reply to chris@ccc. Here's an extract from what he posted:
"It's a great achievement. Wonder what is the record, similar to this, for other sports and/or for other nations."

Does 'other sports' exclude squash?

In fact, comparing Lee Chong Wei to Rudy Hartono is quite unfair to Hartono.
The Indonesian won the All England Open (an international title) eight times - seven of them consecutively.
The Malaysian hasn't yet figured in even the runner-up list!

Staying with international badminton, please look up Ethel Thomson's record at the All England Open. ;)

i don't see any harm in Datuk Lee setting 10 years target
as National Champion, nothing wrong at all...at personal
level, is a great achievement for him and for national level
it will be a record and might go into Malaysia Guiness Record?
who do not want to be remembered?
is up to the juniors to buckle up...we cannot blame Datuk Lee
for dominating the scene...
as for international level...we know Datuk Lee would like to win
as many title as possible....maybe until today he havent really
win a major title...as many said his mentality problem...
but he did try his best and won some SS titles (5 to be exact)
so why we are making a fuss over trivial matters???
