View Full Version : Searching for a new raquet?

To all fellow badminton fans:
I need some advice. My eighteenth birthday is approaching and I am planning to purchase another raquet. I currently play with a MP88. Should I get another one as a back-up or something more powerful. My game involves mostly playing finnese drops and net shots or sitting back and play defensively until my opponent makes a mistake. Pure raw aggresion really isn't my style. I like head heavy raquets but not ones like the Ti SP SA where the shaft is too soft so that when I am hitting clears or smashes, I feel like someone is trying to pull my raquet back. Price is not an issue. Any kind of advice would be welcome. Thank you.

Does it have to be a Yonex??
Ashaway have a fantastic range of rackets. The XT-555 with a super slim shaft or the stiffer T-5 are worth a try.
Have you seen Ashaway much in Scotland???

You may try yonex cab 20. It is quite balanced. Perfect for a defensive play. and also suitable for a strong smash. But due to its relatively small sweet spot, it may need more time to get use to it. As you know, Xia xuanzhe, the present world nr.1 single player, is using cab 20. I haven't tried mp 90, but I heard it is pretty promising in both precise control and smash/clear.

Hi all

I couldn't agree more with this quote, the xt-555 is a truely amazing racquet. It has such a nice feel to it and has tremendous play. The smash i can generate with it is lethal. The 'T' range are also a very nice make, for example the 'T-9' is impressive.
Don't think Yonex are the be all and end all of badminton, as there are some fantastic makes out there that just need a bit more attention. Ashaway will be up there soon with the very best. If you already have one, the sensible thing would be to buy another as some sort of back up. All you need is to play a game, the strings break, and then you have to play with a totaly different racquet. You can be ahead in a game and lose because of the racquet, it has happened to me many time. I wish you the happiest of birthdays

Hi Matt
Me and you are on the same wavelength.I may be a little biased about Ashaway rackets as i sell them and use them. They are not far off as good as Yonex and the competition will be complete when the new muscle power ISO Ashaways arrive in a couple of months.

Steve,

Wow, Ashaway have developed new racquets for the new season?! Do you have a pic of them?! Ashaway have always been a good make in my mind, i could be a little biased too seeing as i am sponsored by them but i love their racquets and will welcome any new racquets they develop. I feel Ashaway would be one of the leading brands (up their with Yonex) in the next few years. But i mean everything Ashaway make, including shirts and bags are of a great quality.

Hi Matt
I would like to use some of your quotes on my website to promote Ashaway rackets.
I will also keep you posted on Ashaways new muscle-power rackets, which they have just released details of.
You can contact me through my website (see previous post).
Cheers.

Steve,

You can use all the quotes you like i am very proud to be sponsored by Ashaway. I have used the XT-555 once and liked the feel, and desperately want to get one. Yet i have no money now so i'm gonna have to wait. If you have messenger (msn) maybe we could talk more about it. I am absolutley over the moon about these new racquets, as usual they should be of great quailty. But for me, Ashaway gets the thumbs up all the time.

Hope to hear from ya soon mate

Stevie,

It would be simply amazing if u could write reviews(even if it is biased) abt all The ashaway rackets. mate i have played a little bit with Powerkill 60 or 90 i am not sure but then that racket is damn good.

If u write and review rackets of ashaway on a comparitative basis to YONEX rackets then it would be Gr8. It is unfortunate to know that Yonex has become a benchmark but then we have to live up with it and i look forward to ur reviews.

Thanks

Yogi I'm willing to do reviews for the Ashaway rackets.
but the Uk models are different then what you have in other countries.so it would a Ashaway uk racket review, which would be disappointing for all other people on the forums outside the UK.
What do you think?

Steve,

It would be great if you could do ANY sort of review on the Ashaway products, i'm not bothered whether they'll apply for outsiders or anything. I'm sure Yogi will appreciate any sort of review aswell.

All the best, hope to hear from ya again soon

Steve, could you clarify this statement for the non-Ashaway racquet user?

I know for some products, e.g. cameras, the same model carries a slightly different name in different countries. Is this the situation with Ashaway? Or, do you mean the product line is different for UK purchasers of Ashaway products compared to other countries?

I have never used Ashaway raquets before but I have had my raquets strung with Ashaway strings, which are of prime quality. Where I live, Ashaway equipment are extremely scarce. Perhaps I would be willing to try some if it was more readily available.
