same here :)
you can get to those spots using public transport.
nunawading rec centre is less that 1 minute walk from nunawading station which is on the lilydale/belgrave line
kilsyth is closer to croydon station which is on the ringwood line and about a 30 minute walk from there.
MSAC I think there is a tram line going down that street whixh MSAC is located
Hawthorn, Im don't exactly know if that is closer to Hawthorn or Glenferrie stations but It would be close to one of them.
There is a train line that finishes out at springvale, and a few kilometres down the round is a really good place called springers which suprisingly ayl doesnt know about. And as Iv said before they have the sydney 2000 olympic courts there. And because it is the main asian community in melbourne you should be able to find plenty of action around there.

Tension 24 is not a great place for badminton gear, limited range of rackets, mainly older model Yonex ones at ridiculous prices, 2-3 times more expensive than other places. Range of shuttles? What a joke they stock like only 1-2 types at once again ridiculous prices. Racket restringing $45 bucks!!! Are u serious?? I get my rackets restrung with any string I want for $20 bucks!!!
Even Sportsmart is way better, more rackets, more brands, hell of alot cheaper and huge range of shuttles at decent retail prices. Anyone that shops at Tension 24 has been hit in the head with a shuttle too hard! Nuff said.

I agree great shop, but little expensive. Tip for anyone, do not buy stuff at MSAC shop, even more expensive. There is a shop along Mt.Alexander parade, has a tennis racquet hanging over the front door, that's not bad either.

anybody know where to get Carlton Airblade Superlite and Prince TT Attitude/Warrior in Melbourne?
Tension 24 carries only Yonex and man their selling the Armortec 500 for AUD$249/USD$193. i doubt that is a reasonable price. anybody know where i can get it for a reasonable price?
Tracy & GRObFURSt can you give me contacts of your private sellers? i assume they carry Yonex only (and authenthic ones i hope). i'm looking for either 1 of the 3 i listed.. with the Prince Attitude being my main choice...
EDIT: anybody bought stuff from http://ecommerce.racketsports.com.au/catalog/default.php before? their pricing seems to be on par with other webstores online and much cheaper than local shops.. but could they be selling fakes? anybody purchased from them before?

Yeah I went to Tension 24 and you are right, their prices are a bit high, but there isn't too many places around Melbourne - have you tried Prelli Racquets in Victoria St.?
I just purchased the AT700 from www.racketsports.com.au (http://www.racketsports.com.au), delivery was pretty fast and they threw in a free restring. Unfortunately my new BG68Ti snapped after hitting with it maybe 4 times:crying: , but the racquet is fine:o . So I don't think they are selling fakes:confused: .
Otherwise try eBay, maybe some good deals there?

Hi,
I've never trained at the club. There are 2 types of trainings:
Saturday: Advanced training for university team players who play at inter-uni
competitions. The coaches used to be on the Chinese national team.
VERY exhausing physically. Cost: $4.5
Sunday: Beginner's training. The coach is the president of the club -- an A grade
player. Cost $3
On the weekend, one can generally play as many games as one wants, because
not that many people come to play.

The coaching programme is taking a short break while the uni team goes off for the southern aus uni games. It will resume on the 16th July.
There are two coaches for about 15 or so players - pretty fair ratio i think. It's pretty tough but that's the point of advanced coaching right?
Coaching is only available to club members, this is due to uni regulations and insurance reasons.
Non-members can still come to play socially, $5.50 per visit. There is plenty of space on weekends, usually my friends and i can play non-stop all sunday afternoon.

Yes, the name of the thread was "killed in action" I believe. What happened was
that the racket of one of his opponents broke at the joint between the shaft and
handle during a smash, and the broken bit flew across the court and pierced
through the unlucky guy's eye into his brain -- an instant kill.

Wow, after reading the threads, it sounds so discouraging to play badminton down there. *SIGH* I just came back from a week in Melbourne and i enjoyed the rather "laid-back" life style. I visited some relatives who live in the Glen Waverly area as well. A quiet place.
I will be moving to Melbourne in feb, the Preston suburb to be exact for at least 4 years. So anyone in the Melbourne area, please feel free to contact me if u want a little friendly smashing.. :D cheers

Hi LilyC
Eastern Surburb of Melbourne starts from Melbourne to Lilydale or Pakenham.
In which surburb are you residing? And do you have a car to drive to venues not accessible by public transport?
LilyC

Hi Chris@CCC!
Apologise for not been specific here.
I live in the City of Boroondara (which includes Camberwell, Kew, Balwyn, Howthorn, Auburn)... but i don't mind going to other areas such as Nurawarding, Box Hill... I do drive, but would give preference to areas where i can take the trains or accessible by public transport. However, if you do happen to know somewhere with good training programs that's not close to my area... I'll still consider it - as long as it's not too far.
Thanks in advance. :)

Hi LilyC
You might like to try our club CCC Badminton @MSAC, Albert Park, every Sunday 10:00am to 12:00noon.
MSAC is back to normal activities from the Commonwealth Games & the Gand Prix from 11-April-2006. So our CCC is resuming on Sunday 16-April-2006.
For more info, please visit www.cccbadminton.com (please note: CCC Badminton @Box Hill will not resumed there). We are in the process of moving to Glen Waverley.

Hi Chris@CCC,
Thanks for replying so soon! :)
I will certainly take it into consideration and would probably end up going to your CCC club, but i am not sure if i am up to the required standard? coz i was checking on the internet the other day and saw a club running in Nurawarding... but they gave me the sense that I need to be relatively good in order to join. What about this CCC one?
Also, here are some more questions:
1) it's such a shame that CCC is not running in Box Hill :( coz that would be the closest from where i live. Is there still a slight possibility that it won't be moved to Glen Waverly?
2) Do i need to email you before i attend a session?
Thanks again~;)

Hi LilyC,
Come to think of it, as according to you, everyone at CCC must think that they are not up to the required standard then... If they think that they are good, they would then not come for coaching. Don't worry, even the worst or the best players learn something at coaching.
We are moving to Glen Waverley because there are more courts there. And the courts there are much better.
You don't have to email me before you attend. We are permanently there on court number 1, 2 and 4. We will only stop when no one needs coaching anymore.

We have just set up a new club (Titan Badminton Club) and are running regular social badminton close to the Glen Waverley shopping centre on Saturday nights between 6.30-10.00pm
The standard is B grade and above. However about a 1/4 of the players are beginners and each week there is a free 1 hour group coaching lesson to help beginners integrate with the better players.
The cost is $10 and the venue is Waverley Christian College (Melway 72 D2) on the corner of Cathies Lane and High Street, Wantirna South. Turn into Cathies Lane and drive through the fourth gate and there will be parking in front of the courts. There are 4 new courts.

Hello Melbourne, Australia,
We have set up a Social Club (CCC Badminton) now playing every Friday, 8:00pm-10:30pm @Glen Waverley.
CCC Badminton (Coaching Club) started @MSAC, Albert Park in April, 2003, and we are still there every Sunday. More information is located at http://www.cccbadminton.com/
CCC Badminton (Social Club) started @Box Hill in August, 2003, but we have now moved to Glen Waverley as described in the first paragraph above. More information is located at http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32267
As you read about our Social Club @Glen Waverley, there are a 3 things for me to mention (this is because our club responds to the wishes of our members as we develop);
Although we wanted to have lower and medium skilled players at the start, more higher skilled players are attending. Therefore, expect to play harder when you attend.
Although we wanted to have 16 players at the start, more players are attending. Therefore, expect our charges of $10 to be reduced in the next few weeks, probably to $7 or $8 per player. But please wait and see in another 2 or 3 weeks' time.
Although we have already reduced our charges to $5 for non-income players, eg full-time students, the unemployed, any concession card holders,... again, expect some changes regarding concessions. Why??? Because we do not want our CCC @Glen Waverley to turn into a Students' Club, as I have been informed that Glen Waverley's student population is very high. Again, please wait and see in another 2 or 3 weeks' time.
With the 2 links above, you should be a to get in touch with me.
Cheers... chris@ccc

Hi Melbourne, Australia,
CCC Badminton Club @Glen Waverley Fridays is growing faster that we expected. It is located at http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32267&goto=newpost
Just last Friday, 12-May-2006, we expected 20 players and we had 19 players. This Friday, 19-May-2006, we are expecting 26 players, but we will wait and see how many will turn up.
Soon, we will be asking players to apply for our CCC Club Membership. We intend to start our Club Membership in June.
We will close our application for membership when we reach the quota of 32 players. This is because we have only 4 courts at our venue.
More discussions will be held this coming Friday, 19-May-2006.
