Hi all,

well, I don't know if anybody else experienced this...
but I'm in the proces of tearing of the 'lateral grip claw' on the right shoe.
I already noticed my shoes 'creaking' during some shadow footwork, and now I know why.
They're size 30.0 (I know, I know, huge) and both have been used for about two months. (both average about 3 times a week)

Got two pair of shb100ltd, and both of 'em have this.

Anybody else familiar with this?
I'm thinking of trying out the shiny shb91, they don't have a gripclaw:p
or maybe those asics gel-blade 2, or the hi-tec 4 sys's
Any thoughts?

Hummmm, I think the panda had the same problem before. I will also go home and do some research on this too...
Might need to report this to the evil empire.

the last shoe's Dan trashed that I saw were torn apart right above the 'bridge' (for the arc of your foot)

But, I don't know.. It's not exactly a manufacturing defect (what are the chances of me getting two defect pairs of shoes?)
And I don't think the warranty man would appreciate my shoes lying around in his office :p

they dont both look like 30.0s, the bottom one looks smaller? how come? also my shb100mx haven't cracked their, they just wore out, maybe its your footwork? maybe your doing something different or repetitive that wears out the shoes their more then normal??

they are both 30.0cm's yes....

It's just perspective (one of them is slightly tilted).

Well, I don't mean to brag, but my footwork isn't really that crude or anything..
But they do get used a lot, and I jump/land a lot...So they do get their fair share of abuse... But nothing odd...

J,

Do you jump smash a lot and push off the right side of your right foot? Was the right shoe fit tight?

Just wondering

not experienced this problem thankfully. had my 100ltd for 3 months playing six hours a week jumping and running loads.however do remember dinkie saying the 100mx as being 3x more durable than the ltds or something like that!

Mine is the older Black & Gold version.
It's separating on the inside lining of the shoe where the claw is attached on the outside.

I am right handed and the problem is with my left shoe.
I do not jump smash, but the left foot outside heel is showing more wear than the right foot. Also, I got the shoes in Sept 2007, playing about twice a week for 2 hours +/-.

I've had the same problem with my 'older-version' SHB100-Ltd (Size 28.0)...:(:crying::mad: (My pair fit me just-right).
Up till now, I'd been thinking that this 'issue' might've been a one-off thing-y...

Started out just like Jerby's and 'evolved' to this...:mad:

... for what it's worth, I have REALLY broad & flat feet and have been thinking that this might be a MAJOR contributing factor.

I've since gotten me a pair of V-Lites...:)

Woahhh.. thats a crazy looking pair of shoes o_O

Try stitching the lateral claw back on? Can't hurt to try

meeh~ mine have unusual wear on the left inner side where my ball joint is. SHB 100's are great performing shoes, but the wear and tear factor on them is kind of sketchy. If nothing else goes wrong, the traction is 2nd to none, but the tread life is horrible. It's like buying a set of the stickiest summer tires only to have them replaced by next summer.

One question to J and punchlear.
Do you spare half size more on your normal size?

I've heard for badminton, we have to spare half size more on our shoes.
Little bit tight may cause this happen.

I also have the same problem as Jerby.

After 3 months the right insole was completely worn out and I had the same tear near the Lateral Claw. I also have a hole between the leather and the sole just in front of the Lateral Claw. A Scottish national coach told me that when I lunge sometimes my foot is more sideways than facing forwards which is dangerous and probably caused the damage to the shoe. So maybe your lunging technique is not perfect, you will really need someone else to tell you this or make a video of yourself playing.

I am too thinking of trying the SHB91's are there any reviews?

Does anyone know if they problem is also affecting the SHB100MX or is it just affecting the SHB100LTDs?

Not played yet, they fit good:p

EDIT: by the way, shocking to see so many people have had this...

Had a run through with a lot of my friends, this is what came out as the 'cause':

The plastic and leather around the gripclaw is very stiff and rugged. almost unmovable (which is indeed it's purpose).
Now, all this rugged stuff is stitched onto a large slap of leather (fake or not, doesn't matter to me). This is the part of you shoe that takes the beating in a match (your right foot).
landing after blockjumps, sidesteps and lunges with your foot not exactly in position (slightly turned sideways)

All in all, the outside their has quite some forces to cope with. And indeed, the outside part of your shoes flexes a lot. I think you can see where I'm going:
The flexible piece of leather, stitched to hard plastic, is bound to have some tensions between them, causing tears, because the 'soft' part stretches a lot further than the gripclaw.

Does it make any sense?:o

Think you hit the cause on the problem right on the head! Liken it to constructing a superstrong building with loads of concrete/steel on mud =).

those 2 tears on both shb100's are replaceable..all u have to do is send it back to your local Yonex distributor

jerby
10-17-2008, 09:37 AM
so, I send back both pairs, and both get denied for a replacement.
no explanation, no further comments, just 'no'.

I'm done with yonex...

well..first thing i would do is bring it bak to the shop/store u got it from first...then get them to send it off cuz it's a lil better...but u can always send it off..n it also depends on the person doing the warranty too..some r just..bad..lol

jerby

I did, brought it back to the reseller, reseller brought it to yonex, got denied, the end...

Heard a lot about it, but now experienced it... For such a big brand, yonex really has a bad warranty-policy...
On the big scale, they can get away with it, controlling 75% of the market or so. But that doesn't mean I have to participate :p
