I find it really hard to get a good pair of badminton shorts. Of all the shorts I've seen, the best ones are the ones worn by most of the Chinese national women's squad. You know..the reasonably tight fitting red ones. I dunno how else to describe them. I think they are manufactured by Yonex. I've asked friends in M'sia and Singapore if they have seen any. No one had. Maybe they are no longer available. For a clearer picture of what I'm talking about. If you go to the this website's homepage, you'll see the chinese player on the top left hand corner wearing a pair. If anyone knows how in the world I can score myself a pair of those shorts, please, please let me know! Cheers! Greetings from NZ btw!

the red shorts has been the Chinese ladies' signature clothing until Yonex started this fashion frenzy in the early 2000s. a brief look at the latest Yonex catalog, i don't see them anymore. but i doubt you will have a hard time finding similar ones, but exact Yonex ones will be tougher. good luck.

Thanks for that Kwun..the annoying thing is that I don't think that there's actually any local supplier here in Christchurch..I'll have to try Auckland..the problem is by the time it gets to me..after adding all the mountain-high international tax etc I have to pay, probably cost a bomb..

anyone knows of a good sports clothing/eq website to go through where you can order stuff from for very cheap price, including my red shorts?

You don't "have" to pay taxes......

If you have a friend somewhere who knows where to buy them, tell them to send it to you as a gift and you won't have to pay taxes:) Just shipping.

Here's some sites but I think it's always expensive buying online..... the stores sell cheaper in stores I think... (thats what I heard) ...

www.bbeshop.com (click on english if you can't see chinese.. )

Well, the reason why these shorts are so cool is coz they actually are quite a snug fit..as opposed to a lot of shorts that when you wear it, they are either too baggy and it makes you have arses bigger than the African continent or the material is wrong. These shorts also look more classy than a lot of the other rubber waiste band ones..

I went to that website Nic..but it's in some foreign language..is there an English option one? I can't even pick out which one is the English option icon to click because they're all in foreign language

Can you post up a pic of the shorts you're looking for? .. I can't see how someone can be obsessed with shorts! Hehehe... I mean their are plenty of other good looking shorts out there! Why the "hot red" ones?

adelina76

Okey..dunno where to go look for them specifically..but the website Nic provided was right on. I must admit, I have never really looked at it really closely, so I suppose if Yonex produced 2 similar looking models, then I'm doomed! But otherwise, I think it's like the one on the website Nic put in here..

I tried attaching a photo of Ye Zhaoying wearing a pair..she used to wear heaps of them..but it was not in jpeg..so it won't attach..so instead, if you go to this website, you should see it:

These shorts are really good because they stretch. I got one pair.

In the very olden days(!) the shorts used to be cotton - OK if you got nice slim legs but if you got a slim waist and strong legs, there would be a distinct possibility of splitting along the seams. Hence my preference for elastic, baggy shorts. The only impression I'm worried about is my badminton looking good.

If you're worried about making a good impression about the backside, perhaps wearing running shorts will obliterate all doubt. Actually, these also give a lot of free movement of the legs which is really good.

So Cheung, do you know where I can get some of these cotton ones you're talking about? Or if it is not too troublesome, can you please help me get them and send it to me and I'll pay for them? (provided it's not too expensive :P)

Sorry, Adelina, I thought you understand chinese. It seems like that web site doesnt sell or ship or do international business. Like you say, perhaps some people in China can help you out (buy and send it to your way).

Good Luck! :)

You have a slender waist and slender legs? ;)

Actually I think you missed part of what Cheung wrote, those shorts aren't made anymore I think.

The shorts I have are the mainly black with a bit of red. They were a present. Dunno where to buy them.

Adelina:
Why don't you consider wearing cycling shorts? They don't make your ass look big and will allow a high range of movements.

adelina76
06-11-2002, 03:22 AM
You are kidding right F-man? Wear those tight lycra cycling shorts to play badminton? Let's see..why don't I wear leg warmers as well? :p That's almost as silly as me suggesting that you wear a kilt on court F-man..*giggle* :) Gee, although I wouldn't mind seeing Mel Gibson playing badminton in a kilt..*sigh*:D

Anyway..shorts are definitely more comfortable than cycling shorts..

Well I did saw some chinese ladies player worn those during training. And I think it look cool.... if you have a pair of nice ...... legs. Not that I think you don't have :)

I believe those chinese ladies you saw aint wearing cycling shorts for training, but some sorts of aerobic or workout pants that "looks" similar to cycling shorts, both shorts are tight but different design and different material.

adelina76:
It is only a suggestion. Some cycling shorts actually look very stylish. People at my ocal club, who has worn cycling shorts before have all commented on the level of comfort. Mind you, since I am a guy, I would not wear my self since it is embarassing, to say the least, to have a "hump" in the lower region if you catch my drift. For ladies however, no such problem exist.

adelina76
06-11-2002, 03:34 PM
Hey F-man..didn't mean discard your suggestion..I do appreciate it..but it was just funny I suppose..but you know what the irony of your suggestion is? I'm actually an aerobic instructor as well..and so I know what Nic is talking about and yes, we do wear lycra shorts for aerobics..but I wouldn't dare wear them during team practice or even inter-club games..too embarrasing..plus it's damn cold in the badminton hall to wear those!

And I'll probably get dagger looks from the older ladies who can't wear such snug looking clothing...

It's not uncommon to see some ladies wearing these shorts for badminton in London. This started years ago. Maybe you can be the 1st in N Zealand to start the fashion trend!

Adelina, I am with you on this one:

Badminton and lycra are totally incompatible. Just like the fact that one does NOT wear sleeveless tops or tank tops when playing badminton -- regardless of gender...

haha i guess u want to dress to "kill" ^^ good luck with those shorts. Looks and colours play an important role against opponents since many ppl will judge u by how u dress. I guess if u look like a good player they will assume u are and be more cautious giving u a bit of an edge. Note* that i am gathering this experience from the world of basketball. But if your're not a good player then it doesn't really matter but at least you'll look great :D

Exactly Ryvius, well put..I normally try to distract the male opponent on the other side during mix..or at least so that he won't aim all his smashes at me..:p

Nah..I just wanted them because not only did they look comfortable and snug, but also smart and professional looking, as opposed to baggy shorts or badminton skirts that makes me feel like a parachute after each jumping smashes..hehe :)

But I think Yonex no longer manufacture them anymore..so I'll just have to keep looking..

P.s Mag, you're right...there's a certain dress code and I so agree with you re sleeveless shirt for badminton...the fashion police would have a field day! :)

Adelina, how about one of those new skirts that the pros like Camilla and the Japanese started wearing recently?

adelina76
06-17-2002, 03:59 AM
Hey Kwun, can you please please post a photo (or a few) of these skirts you're talking about that you saw Camilia Martin et all wear?

If it is really that nice..I'll buy them and wear them..and take pics and post it here ! (hehe, secret motivation for guys to post those skirts here) :P :P

Kwun, please tell me that it's really a short underneathe or something, surely, the skirt is not really a skirt? a bit short then won't it be? I mean, err..you can't see her undies when she lunge right? Gosh...I want to distract my male opponent in mix, not blind him! :)

kwun
06-17-2002, 04:35 AM
i don't know. i never tried look underneath there. ;)

but trust me, i am sure there is enough covering there to not blind your opponent. this is Yonex we are talking about, not victoria's secret. :)

These are actually a pair of tight fit stretch shorts, with a skirt outside. So no worries Adelina!

First of all Kwun, admit it, you would sort of wished sometimes that Yonex = Victoria Secret..then you'll probably spend a lot of time help your girlfriend shop for her badminton apparel..*innocent look* :)

And the kind of information I really wanted was provided by Mag..thanks..sometimes guys just don't understand what women want..
So if there's tights underneathe, that's fine then..hey Mag, are those the same type of skirts that I see a lot of pro tennis players wear now as well, including dokic, venus and serena? those shorts/skirt are kewl..I wonder how much they are.. *looks at Kwun* hehe, any idea where I can find out prices etc about them?

As for you cooler..as long as the sunglasses you prescribed are truly sunglasses and not x-ray glasses! :) hehe..that reminds me..I once tried to retrieved a net shot from the 'T"and ended up doing a front split..it was so embarassing..and the guys there, instead of helping me up or offering, they just wolf whistle and stuff..how rude! :P

If your backside is anything like Camilla's then even if you don't make them go blind during the game there is a good chance that they will do so later on that night in private!

Ahem, you're welcome Adelina, but I'm actually a guy. I have a gf that plays, though, thus the inside knowledge. And yes, that's basically the same thing as those tennis skirts that Nike, Fila, etc have.

They are called Skorts! It was first made popular by graf.I guess it is here to stay as women find it very comfortable and it is better in appearance than a Shorts on a not so fit person.
