Both are good. Choose the design & comfort that fit most.
Asics is nice of its design & comfort, it accommodates wide feet too, but not as detail as mizuno which been categorize into 3E & 4E

for me, i will prefer Asics over Mizuno.
Asics is more comfortable and better traction. Mizuno, is kind of stiff, harder to move......:)

Asics has ABS with EBD, TCS too. Perform like HKS & Michelin

Mizuno has the above, just that like Mugen & Silverstone.

Hehehehehe........

How we wish the Gel Sensei model would be selling over here ! I'm craving for it.

I would say this Gel Sensei like Mercedez/Citroen air-suspension system, upbeat any top line absorber out there, kekekekkeke......

You can try here:

However, thats an Australian site, I'm not sure if they do international shipping.

That said, asics are very expensive compared to yonex shoes. Unfortunately yonex is hard to source here, so I went with asics. I also wear asics for runners, quite like their gel system.

Hehehe, the problem is not becoz i couldnt find any asics or mizuno here. The problem is one of my friend, his shoe size is UK13, hehehe which is mostly impossible to find in South East Asia :D

So, I look at that website, size 13uk is available. So maybe this is a solution for him eventhough the price is a bit expensive

Yep, well thats the prices in Australia, as with anything else, it'd be cheaper in Asia.

My gel-sensei 2, cost me $160, from a different shop, on the scale of things, yonex shb-100's would be cheaper, but yonex isn't really carried here.

I've been wearing Mizuno volleyball shoes for almost 2 years, in terms of tracking and lateral movement, they are similar to badminton shoe, however, volleyball shoe is a little higher(cushion is thicker) hence take a while in getting use to just like change to a longer racket, need minor adjustment.

Hey guys, every shoe is different even if they are from the same manufacturer. I think besides being low to the ground, badminton shoes need to be flexible at the toes and balls of the feet when you bend them.
From my experience: Mizuno Wave is hard plastic, I recommend getting a pair that has visible space between the Wave and the foam. But, that will make them higher from the ground. Asics are a hit and miss. The Gel is very comfortable, but some of the newer / higher end shoes have too much padding in the toe drag area and are clunky. Yonex are the best for badminton all around, however being lower to the ground also means more impact. I can't comment on the Mizuno or Asics badminton specific shoes though.

I used to use Asics for running but never tried their badminton shoes -- not even aware they make them.

My previous 2 Yonex's (pre 2004) were great but they didn't last too long. Both tore open in the left inner front within a year. It's due to wear and tear because I drag my left leg and the shoes weren't exactly designed for that. I didn't want to take any risk so had to change them.

I am currently on my 3rd pair of Mizuno. None of them broke. I still use my 2nd pair on dirty courts and/or non-important games. The 2nd pair is almost 3 years old now. I'm quite a Mizuno fan now :P

I got a pair of;
Acsic Gel tactics - absolutely hate wearing them
Mizuno Wave Nirvana 4 (I think) - very very comfy and good support. Not gum sole tho =(
Yonex SHB100 special - Solid shoe, comfy (still getting used to them), and nice grip =)

Although I use the SHB100's for badminton I prefer the Mizuno's because they are higher I get a wee bit more cushioning which is better for my crappy knees, and give better support for my pronated feet. Having said that the SHB100's are brand new and Im still getting used to them.

RevoWithin,

Shoes are personal matter as everybody have different shapes, sizes and comfort feel. You are safe to choose either Asics or Mizunos. Like Will@m said, you just gotta try them out. For me, both brands are pretty similiar and the tie-breaker being which shoes look nice on me:p

S1Driver,

I used to wear Hi-Tec, their indoor court shoes are really durable comparing to other brands and they are making nicer designs all the time. However I find that their shoes are mainly for the squash rather than badminton cuz they seem a tad heavier.

For me, it has to be asics.... My current pair was bought over 2 years ago fro RM200, and I am still wearing it. The gel gives you a lot of 'bounce' and support especially for someone big and heavy for me. I swore off Yonex shoes long ago. They are not only expensive but stiff and uncomfortable. The worst part is, it does not last..... None I had last more than 9 months... all tear at the front portion. My last pair of Yonex even worse! it had this 'lump' in the middle of the insole that caused so much pain in my foot that I insist that the retailer change for me.... he didn't even resist... just called the salesman involved and got me another pair..... the salesman dragged his feet... the retailer than offered that i exchange the full cost of the shoes for other badminton items in his shop.... imagine that.... they know themselves how crappy their shoes are!!!

Down side though... seeing so many new asics model... can't buy, my shoe still in good condition after more than 2 years.....:crying:

because of my weight, my next shoes will be either an asics gel or a indoor court mizuno. probably volleyball shoes if it is a mizuno because of the awesome cushioning. :) but my heart is leaning towards asics because i already have a mizuno. and the mizuno have very good traction on court. very satisfied. it is just that i want to try asics before deciding which one suits me best. one good thing about mizuno though is that they have wide feet models. :D some sports shoes' design are a bit narrow and uncomfortable.

Deric Chang
10-14-2008, 09:00 PM
Yeah, Mizuno wide feet option is really good!!! Asics might be tight at first ( for those with wide feet) but because its material is mostly light weight mesh, it will adopt the shape of your feet after a few sessions. And because of they use light weight mesh, the shoe is very light, so ppl with weight issues would appreciate the extra oomph in court movement ...

azabaz_ipoh
10-14-2008, 09:24 PM
excellent. i dont move like lightning on court anyway. so my priority will be cushioning. more so after i had sprained my ankle in july. the ankle area still feels unstable and i get heel pain once in a while even when i am not playing. :)

Yes. Betul tu. During my secondary school I always play badminton on a cement court without any footwear. That time okla, tak sakit langsung, the effect I suffer right now, feel pain here and there:(

Now I am using Mizuno. After this one rosak, I'll try Asics

Willi@m
10-15-2008, 06:55 AM
Try this: 1 pair Asics, 1 pair Mizuno. Wear it althernate week. Good mah, have both at the same time, kekekekke....

Mizuno tends to have "thicker" sole than Asics albeit tad heavier. Thats y many ppl saying Mizuno more comfort. Asics more towards "Gel" cushioning, felt little jelly when stomping, shoe lightweight than mizuno.

I notice both brand rubber outsole really outlast YY. Both have stitching at the nose while YY has none (it has, stil not last long).

azabaz_ipoh
10-15-2008, 08:36 PM
i think mizuno and asics have different characteristics and strength. if we wear them alternately, the footwork will surely be affected. we play different in different shoes right? maybe not a big different but like playing with different rackets, we will make minor adjustments when we use different rackets. i think the same will apply to shoes. :)

cappy75
10-16-2008, 04:25 AM
Unless there's huge difference in weight, I don't see footwork being affected too much cuz we adjust over time. I favor neither of them cuz they're both good brands.

Yeah they do last a long time. I still have my wavegate'03 from early '04 and my wavegate'06 from May'07. Both shoes are still structurally sound but the older wavegate is hardening up a bit so I'm retiring it.

I think the grip from the WaveSmash SG is the best -- its also the most expensive. WoS is running a 30% + 10% NETS discounts so you effectively get 37% off if you use NETS. I just got my wave smash SG at S$93.80. Will put it to test tomorrow and see how it goes.

Initial impression, the shoe is airy, light, rides low, has fantastic grip and very good impact cushioning. The shoe literally sticks to the wooden floor when I tried lunging a bit at home. But my floor is clean :D so I'm not sure how it performs on dirtier courts.

Oh yah, teoky has more experience with it and he recommended it to me :)

The wave gate is definitely cushier. I think the wave smash's cushion is more firm (like a fully zeng'ed evo) but the cushioning effect is certainly still there.

I just put my wave smash sg through its paces today. 1 whole hour of movement and the shoes never heat up. The shoes did soak up the impact quite well, I suspect better than the wave gates. It may be because I'm kinda heavy at 82/3kg and the wave gates bottomed out.

The ankle support is much better than my mid-cut wave-gate, which was a surprise to me.

I did get a small blister on the smallest toe due to the socks. Overall, I am very happy with it. Will check the shoes again later today.

12-12-2008, 02:53 AM
Aiyah... substantiate a bit...

I did not feel any impact using the wave smash from jumps or lunges. In fact, when testing the shoes out, I jump and land on the heels on tiled floor. Today, my knees felt less strained than they normally are.

This is not to say the wave gates are bad. Mine has been in service for 19 months old already and 2-5 hours every week, plus any side games..

I just bought one pair of Mizuno recently and the grip is superduper grippy. In fact, I find that I couldn't move around as fast as I could with my old Yonex SHB-99LE red shoe. For example, when I move to the front and my opponent surprises me by lifting the bird to my back, I usually apply my emergency foot brakes and can still move back. With this new shoe, I find that I am glued to the court and hardly can move back without expending more effort. MAybe it is still brand new.

Cushion wise, it is just as good as my old yonex.

Keep in mind that Gel Rocket shoes have only forefoot gel -- there is no shock absorbation on the hill (which you need when you lunge)... There is Gel Task (same price) with rearfoot gel only, which is supposed to be better for badminton... The best option is Asics Gel Beyond -- with forefoot and rearfoot gel, but it is more expensive...

I had try Gel Beyond, size 11, but its was just tight for me, too bad that the shop doesn't have size 12.

Anybody has tried this new pair of shoes from Asics in a court?

I tried it on in the shop, but it felt a bit high off the groound, but the cushioning seems as good as a running shoe.

I couldn't find any review about it. The price a bit high at 110, but with the gel placement on the heel and balls of feet, seems reasonable. :)

I am using these Gel Task shoes :)

Yes -- a bit high off the ground, but these are volleyball shoes after all... It takes one or two sessions to get used to it.

I like 'em much -- the cushioning is incredible -- not only on the heel... On the forefoot there is spEVA, which is good too...

At first I thought these shoes are too narrow, but after quick re-lacing and one session everithing went fine...
The grip is very good -- even on a dusty wooden floor...

I bought em from reduction on ebay for 35 pound total... But now there is only UK 7.5 left on sale... You can find different sizes for about 39 pounds without shipping -- from other stores on ebay...

Cool. I have used and trusted Asics for its durabilty and quality of its running shoes.
I was sold especially with the Australian Sport's medicine (http://www.sma.org.au/ACSMS/2007/speakers/default.asp)endorsement.

It's on my radar to replace my trusty Yonex shb90.

Keep in mind that Yonex shoes are designd exactly for badminton so it is possible to be frustrated with any Asics volleyball shoes... I find my asics shoes great for badminton and better than my dead tennis shoes I used to play with... But have never wear yonex shoes and yonex shoes are not available in my country too...

And I am Asics running shoes fan too :D

A Squash specific indoor court shoe (http://www.milletsports.co.uk/productmore.php?pid=11075).
Pros: gum rubber has a very good grip on the floor, very well cushioned shoes, hardly felt any impact when lunging or landing from a jump. Has extra lace grommet to tie the shoes snuggly.
Cons: not a badminton specific shoe, slightly heavy at 348g which affects mobility, not well ventilated underneath, feet warms up easily and slightly high on the ground (possible rolled ankle risk).

Give these shoes some time... You will get used to them...
I don't find them too heavy -- just as normal running trainers...

Not that I'm aware of. My wife and myself are not flat footed and we both use Mizuno.

I just purchase a pair of Mizuno Wave Lightning 5 shoes (Silver/Gold). This is the first time I'm trying out a non-Yonex badminton shoe after such a long time. Yonex shoes I used : SHB88 (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=223&stc=1&d=1030160609), SHB92 (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/reviews/data/9/1Yonex_SHB-92.jpg), SHB95 (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=2159&stc=1&d=1079071385), SHB98M (http://www.shymq.com/Shop/UploadPhotos/200610/20061026143203547.jpg), SHB99LOW (http://www.hkbadminton.com/images/shb99low.jpg), SHB100LTD (http://www.crampsports.com/catalog/images/Yonex%20SHB100%20Ltd.jpg).

Let's see how this pair works out!

Well, there's still a while to wait. But the suggested weight seems incredibly light. They look nice, but gold and silver together... may be just a bit too flashy. Good thing they have a wide color assortment.

Chau Beng @ Queensway is selling it for S$139.

Anyway, here are some pictures of the shoes. I wore it to play for the first time today and I must say the cushioning is very impressive (both forefoot and heel)! It is slightly higher off the ground compared to Yonex shoes, but that is not an issue. It weighs pretty much the same as the Yonex SHB 100 imo.

which brand is better?
i heard a lot recommended asics rather than mizuno ?
any comment or opinions ?

i used to sell both shoes in a sports store. asics will provide you with the best cushioning and support for your foot. They normally use a gel soul which accomodates and shapes to your foot fantastically!!!

They are quite narrow fitting but nowadays come in wider cut sizes.

Mizuno are well ------ nothing fantastic at all. They have a basic sponge cushion whic flattens out quite quickly...and they are very hard for a few weeks until theyr worn in.

to be honest go with asics!!

NOTE : ALl mizuno shoes which use the wave system will be quite hard. Due to the plastic wave bar which flattens out to abzorb the impact, the small amount of sponge cushion is rarely felt.

people who say but they feel so comfy for me!!!! its because you dont have too much wrong with your feet. If you tried a pair of asics on though youd be surprised of the differnce ;)

I use Asics DS Trainer for running. Yes, they're certainly much more comfortable than Mizuno's Wave Aero. I have also tried Nike Air Pegasus (which is also pretty good) and Asics Gel Kayano (too heavy for my liking!).

IMO, Asics make some of the best running shoes. I'm thinking of trying Saucony as my friend told me they're pretty good as well.

-----------------

Anyway, I can't really find Asics badminton shoes in Singapore (or perhaps I didn't try hard enough:p).

I can assure you the cushioning of the Wave Lightning 5 is very good (as I have been using Asics running and Yonex badminton shoes). However, the question now is how long it will last. ;)

My Nike shoes were for running, not badminton.

My Yonex shoes can last pretty long. In fact, my Yonex shoes imported from Japan were more durable than the ones selling in S'pore. My SHB 99 Low is actually still surviving after almost 3 years! Only reason I'm not using them is because the cushioning has hardened. Same goes to my SHB98M (from Japan) which is actually still usable (more than 4 years).

My shoes last so long probably because I normally rotate 2 pairs of shoes all the time.

i've tried both the mizuno's and asics' and i tend to lean towards the asics. the only thing that the mizuno's have advantage is the width. the asics are super comfortable even after a couple of months, where the M's will feel quite 'flat'. the support is also much better.

just my thoughts

It is more flexible than my existing SHB-100LTD. The cushioning is great and I feel more comfortable and easier in moving around the court as compare to SHB-100LTD. No regret of getting one.

hello chome, long time no see. u mean the red/white and blue/white versions? i believe they just arrived recently in singapore and available at selected world of sports (wos) outlets (trying to recall which one). Retail price is S$179 before store discount. same price apply for the current model which is the gold/white version.

the black/white and all black version were released in singapore earlier and currently limited sizes are available. retail price is S$169 before store discount.

ps. look for wos sales which can offer up to 40% off for wos members.

Asics's cushioning is softer definitely. Mizuno's cushioning is harder but more responsive/bounce.

Anyway, here's a study done on some shoes.....

Testing was conducted by an independent and internationally certified mechanical test laboratory, Knight Mechanical Testing (KMT) in Fort Wayne, IN. KMT specializes in military, aerospace and medical testing and has no ties to the running shoe industry.

LESS IMPACT

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj317/modious/LessImpact.jpg

Peak "in shoe" impact force measured against distance run. Higher peak force shows greater impact at foot strike, resulting in increased stress on the runners joints, muscles and tendon and increased risk of injury.

HIGHER ENERGY RETURN

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj317/modious/HigherEnergyReturn.jpg

Energy returned by each shoe (as a percentage of energy imparted during foot strike) measured against distance run. Greater energy return results in higher push off force and greater efficiency (better running performance).

BETTER CUSHIONING

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj317/modious/BetterCushioning.jpg

Amount of deformation of each shoe for one foot strike cycle measured against the force experienced by the runner. Lower force and greater displacement shows greater cushioning.

I have used both Asics Gel 1130V and Mizuno Wave Smash SG. All I can say is I prefer Mizuno, it 's slightly heavier and firmer, enable me to move right to left and vice versa without any issue. As for Asics, it's very comfortable and bouncy.... but I think due to too much cushioning, somethings, I can feel that it's not so stable when moving from left to right or vice versa. I have injured my calf ( twice) using Asics...now I am using it as a walking shoe only. Gone back to Mizuno and do not have this slip feeling when moving fast on the court. I know Asics 1130V is a volleyball shoe but Mizuno is designed for badminton. So far, the wave technology in Mizuno provide ample support for my knees as compared to other brands like victor...for Victor, I need to add in heel cushion if not, I will have bad knees after a few games. For Mizuno, no need to add in any extra cushioning.
