jhirata 09-17-2008, 04:27 AM Kenichi Tago is doing great for a junior player. Where's Chen Long though ? ;)
He didn't come down to NewZealand to compete at the Ashaway Northshore City International Open, while the rest of the junior squad did.. like Shu Wada, Rei Sato, Koharu Yoneda, etc.. Must've been training for this tournament.
Heong 09-17-2008, 07:58 AM My lord. Peter Gade lost to Gong Weijie..!?
Shocking. I was expecting Peter to reach the finals too.. but no? ;(

Gong is a good player and would be a star in any other countries othan than CHN...not surprised he beat PG and PG is not the PG of old.

LazyBuddy 09-17-2008, 01:59 PM Eriko HIROSE [JPN] -[CHN] ZHU Lin [3] 21-10 14-21 21-17
This shows how important the home crowd is, and how lack of experience (and consistence) the young guns are. Somehow I think ZL, LL, WYH and WL, etc are following XXF's path, as they all having shaky performance from time to time, before packing enough experience. Just hope at least 1 or 2 of them can reach XXF's achievement in the future. Out of all of them, I think WYH has the brightest future, follow by ZL. WL's career is somehow slowed down (injuries?), and LL is not really that young (unless she can follow ZN's path).

LL is much much younger than ZL...
ZL is too old to follow XXF's path.
Only LL and WYH will replace XXF and ZN...

there were lots of rumbling about LYB's choice of picking ZN over Zhu lin for the OG. We now see LYB had made the right choice for the 3 WS picked for the OG.
I would not say that Wang YiHan vs Yip was an upset as Yip lost in that match. Her movement was not smooth. Her performance went down. Her smashes was not lethal and her trademark jumpsmashes was not as strong. Yip seems to have lost her footing alot of times... meaning her footwork was bad compare to her previous style.
Wang played a better game. She anticipated well.

limsy wrote in last week's thread: "show me the upsets"
The INA MDs replied him with their excellent performances this week, esp Bona/Ahsan's victories over the fourth and sixth seeds. Rian/Yoke also toppled the top-seed, Olympics, and World Champions; despite being beaten by Razif/Tan last week.
I hope the trend continues tomorrow, with either of the pair beating the Danes or home pair.
