Hi all,

I was just wondering what the Cab's look like. I have heard alot about them and was wondering if anyone could post a pic of what they looked like for me? They're old ain't they because my coach used to play with them when he was 12, and he is 25 now.

Thanks
Matt

this is Cab 20 can't seem to find one of Cab 8. Everyone used Cab 8 10 or 20 in those days.

Hi,

Where they any good in their day? Btw, that racket bag looks a bit small for the racket itself. What are we? Mugs? :p

The Cab 20 is one of the best all-round racquet (IMHO). That's one of the reasons why Yonex is still producing and selling them all these years.

I used to play with them for years until they were stolen (whole bag were taken from the trunk/boot of my car) and I went with the ISO 600. And now, I am using Winex racquets (free for me...in a sense ;) )

Matt,

Not sure about the far East but in the UK there wasn't a huge amount of competition on the racket market in those days. Ashaway, Karakal etc. weren't around. The main competition was from Carlton and there were some other peripheral companies that put out rackets like ISI and RSL (yes RSL did rackets) as well as Slazenger. Yonex range of rackets was seen as standard in much the same way that a lot of people swear by them today. Cab 8's were rife among Juniors, and from what I recall you wanted to fit in with your buddies, although I used ISI 2000's :D in fact I found one in my loft today which was quite amazing. If you were using CAB 20 then you had MONEY as no-one but no-one got sponsorship until they were about 16 or so.

UKPlayer,

So they were expensive? I remember Bishy going on about how good they were and how enjoyed playing with them when he was in England, i just never knew they were so popular until now.

Not extortionate by todays standards, but if you were playing on the circuit then the costs for travel, hotels clothing, coaching, court time etc. all mount up- so it's pretty difficult trying to justify a Cab 20 when you can get a couple of decent rackets for half the price. Many juniors were like this unless they were an only child or had an endless supply of money. I can't recall many people getting racket manufacturer terms let alone sponsorship back then. One of the good things Karakal and Ashaway have done is opened that up a bit which is what Browning were doing back then.

Matt,

Here is a list of some people that I can recall off the top of my head using a cab20 (in no particular order)

Liem Swee King (used a cab8 as well)
Ardy Wiranata
Ye Zhao Ying
Ji Xin Peng (whilst winning Olympics)
Xia Xuan Ze (still using it now!)

i think cab20 cost about 80 to 100 GBP depending on the shop. Certainly, Ealing sports was at the upper end of that range.

Talking about ISI, I just saw some racquets 2 weeks ago with this brand on a special sale. The seller said they came from the same factory as Yonex racquets in japan (but I'd reserve judgement on that statement)

Hi,

So when were they first released? And they are still being used up to now?

I'm not sure when they're released but some of the top pros are still using Cabs now!
Cab 20s are so popular that Yonex even came out with the Cab 20 Muscle, incorporating the "Muscle Power Theory" in it.

One of the best, full stop.

A few weeks ago, I got into small chat with Albertus Njoto of HK. He asked me what racquet I was using. I showed him my cab20. He said "Ohh, that's a really good racquet. I used to use it!"

So what racquet does that albertus guy use now?

I'm playing with a Cab20 now as well. I like it very much, i use in both singles and doubles, however many people who have tried the Cab20 would have realised that alot of the Cab20s are different. Of course there are the few that are almost the same but most of them, u can feel the difference in weight just buying holding them.

In total i have 3 Cab20s. My orange 1 is the most head heavy, followed by the purple one then the purple one with th new logo which has such a light head.

I was born in 1984 and this racket was realeased just a year after, i tried it for the 1st time earlier this year and i've been using ever since.

Ti 10 but switching to MP100 because of 'just trying it out'. BG65 @ 32 lbs
Some players change their racquets simply for the sake of changing.

Hi,

So what makes it so great that some of the top players still use it? What makes it so popular because to be honest i've never tried playing with one.

the cab series are just great. The head is smaller than the isometrics and i like to think of it as a classic slim/agile racket

But again, what makes a racket great is not the racket only but also the player using it.

My personal favourite cab used to be cab15, but today i just love my cab23ti 's...still i am in a proces of switching to my mp88.

to Cheung:
If you want to buy mp100 - stay away from the u2 version ( i have it!!! too heavy!!!)

TDotSmAsHer

No way! 2u mp-100 is excellent and not that heavy.... I'm pretty weak and I don't think it's heavy! My 2u ti-10 feels a bit heavier then mp-100.. thats why I use ti-10 most the time even in doubles to build up strength :) When I switch from my ti-10 to mp-100 .... mp-100 feels light.....

maybe you're coming from 3u racquets (mp-88) thats why you think 2u mp-100 is really heavy!

Oh yea... I'm currently trying to find myself a good racquet thats about a 100-120 grams to play with... anyone have any suggestions?

It sounds like you have been playing with Cab20's for a long time. I would be really interested in your opinions of the cab20 MS. It is an investment that may tempt me.

Hey slanter

i haven't been playing with it that long, not even half a year but i like it very much. I haven't tried the Cab20 Muscle yet, had the intension of buying 1 at 1 point but i don't think i will. I'm happy with my Cab20 Original.

I have however tried and compared the Cab20 with the Cab20 Tour and Cab20 Tour Special. I have briefly tried the Cab20 Special as well.

Personally i find the Cab20 Tour to be a good racket. But its not good in the same kind of way as the Cab20. its more powerful and has a nicer feel. But I personally still prefer the original. The Cab20 Tour Special feels like a completely different racket. Power is still good but the feel doesn't seem right, feels very "feelingless" if theres such word. :P

Cheers Byro-Nenium

I know exactly what you are talking about with the 'feelingless' thing. It is the same as I got when trying the Sp SS. Still wanting to hear from anyone who has tried the Cab20MS, especially if they have used the Cab20 as well.

Sorry slanter, unless the racquet is dead cheap or a donation, I won;t be getting one. What for anyway? I got the original!
